The Lakers continued the road trip as they head to Cleveland and a return home for LeBron James, as he and LA faced off against the Cavs on Wednesday night. And it was emotional for LeBron as Cleveland provided him with a tribute that had him in tears. The Lakers continue the road trip and end Rivals Week in the NBA with a stop on Saturday night in the big D as they face Luka's former team, the Dallas Mavericks. And bucking the trend from recent games, the Lakers did get out to a double-digit first-half advantage. But prosperity didn't hold (as was the team's focus) as they proceeded to get outscored on a Dallas 41-14 run to put the Lakers' chances of winning in peril. Happy New Year for the Lakers as they start out 2026 with the first of two home matchups against the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers close out 2025 with a matchup against the Detroit Pistons. The Lakers continued on with their holiday road trip with a stop very close to home as they faced the LA Clippers in the Intuit Dome on Saturday night. Due to the fallout of the NBA Cup qualifying losses, the Lakers and Suns meet up for the first of two trips on Sunday to the Valley of the Sun over the next nine days to face the Suns. And despite not having Austin Reaves in the lineup, shooting 19% on 3-pointers as a team, and LeBron and Luka shooting 3-19 from three and committing 14 turnovers, the Lakers used a 24-0 run in the third and fourth quarters to pad themselves a comfortable lead. But the Suns came roaring back and eliminated a twenty-point deficit as it came down to the final moments of the game, where they took the lead. It came down to a final minute from LeBron (26 points), which included a layup, two missed free throws, two MADE free throws, providing the last-second block on Grayson Allen's shot attempt, and helping to cause Dillon Brooks to get ejected on a controversial foul call that, when the dust settled, left the Lakers with a heart-stopping 116-114 victory over Phoenix. The Lakers finished off Group B Play in the NBA Cup on Black Friday against the Dallas Mavericks in Los Angeles. After a back-and-forth first half, the starting lineup took over with Austin Reaves (38 points, 8 rebounds) putting his imprint on the game, Luka Doncic (35 points, 11 assists) reminding Mavs fans why they miss him, Deandre Ayton (17 points, 8 rebounds) with some size to offset the returning Anthony Davis, and some clutch 3's from Rui Hachimura and LeBron James as the Lakers pulled away again from an opponent in the fourth quarter to seal a spot in the NBA Cup Quarterfinals with a 129-119 victory.
