Comedians Erin Judge and Jenny Chalikian join the show to talk about the unexpected lessons of parenting, from the comedy gold in toddler tantrums to the bizarrely specific fears kids develop (spoiler: escalators are a menace). Erin shares the surreal experience of their child explaining emotions with unsettling accuracy, while Jenny recounts a grocery store meltdown that ended in a surprise life lesson. They also discuss the struggle of balancing comedy careers with the chaos of raising kids and the weirdest places they've ever had to take a work call. Plus, a debate on the proper punishment for stepping on a LEGO—because some offenses deserve more than just an "oops." ✨ Subscribe, rate, and review! Comedians Erin Judge and Jenny Chalikian join the conversation to share the realities of balancing comedy and parenting. Erin recounts a surreal moment of performing stand-up while baby-wearing, proving that the show really must go on—even with a newborn attached. Jenny talks about the unexpected ways her toddler has influenced her comedic timing, from interrupting punchlines to unknowingly delivering some of the best material. They swap stories about the absurdity of school drop-off politics, including Erin's realization that preschool cliques aren't just for kids when she was unintentionally excluded from the “cool parent” group. Jenny also shares how her son's obsession with repeatedly acting out the same scene from Frozen has made her rethink the mechanics of joke repetition—it turns out, toddlers and comedians both love a good callback. Plus, a discussion on whether parenting truly makes comedians funnier or just more exhausted. ✨ Subscribe, rate, and review! Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that is surfin', surfin' cause we're gay. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with queer comedians Erin Judge (@iamerinjudge) and Jenny Chalikian (@jchalikian) to talk about why Blue Crush Should've Been Gay. This 2002 Cali surfer film may only have a 62% on Rotten Tomatoes but it has a 100% in Erin's heart. Blue Crush stars Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez as Anne Marie and Eden, two surfer girls in Hawaii who are 1000% in love with one another. Since it's 2002, the movie tries to convince us that Anne Marie is interested in some football player dude, but we all know the truth. They even keep a third girl, Lena, around for the main purpose of making Anne Marie and Eden seem less gay for each other (but they aren't fooling anyone). It's a toss up for us when it comes to who is the queerest between Anne Marie and Eden. They both totally lose their minds over the professional surfer dykes with their wolf cuts and tiny bikinis and Eden makes zero attempt to hide her extreme jealousy when Anne Marie begins dating the football guy. We know one thing for sure, Blue Crush Should've Been Gay. Erin and Jenny's new comedy album, Romantic Comedy: Live at the Ripped Bodice is available now; and if you happen to be in or near LA, you can check out the show in person! Jenny Chalikian! Erin Judge! Comedians! Friends! Delights! More! Erin Judge and Jenny Chalikian have a new combo comedy out now called Romantic Comedy: Live At The Ripped Bodice, available everywhere comedy is streamed or sold. ABOUT THE ALBUM: Erin and Jenny have been hosting a monthly comedy showcase at the Los Angeles romance bookstore The Ripped Bodice since 2016. For this stand-up album, Erin and Jenny opened the show together, then each performed long sets of their own material. The result is a delightful and hilarious glimpse into what these two dynamic co-hosts experience in their day-to-day lives as queer women in LA. The two met performing comedy in North Carolina in 2012 (Erin was on tour; Jenny was local). After making LA their home, they approached Leah and Bea Koch, sisters and co-owners of The Ripped Bodice, about launching a monthly comedy showcase at the bookstore just a few weeks after it opened. Leah and Bea agreed to give them a shot, and Erin and Jenny named the new show Romantic Comedy. By bringing some of the best voices in LA comedy to the mostly-women book lovers that make up Ripped Bodice audiences, they built Romantic Comedy into a unique and fun monthly event that's beloved by fans and comics alike. When Erin and Jenny started talking about making an album, they knew that The Ripped Bodice would be the perfect venue, and they were thrilled that Blonde Medicine was on board for a joint comedy album. Romantic Comedy: Live at The Ripped Bodice features both comics performing together up top, just like they do every month. Since Jenny is a regular caregiver of Erin's two kids, their unique chosen family inspires a refreshing departure from the usual parenting material, that is still relatable to anyone who has to cope with the ridiculous and unexpected challenges of raising kids. Erin shares stories of dealing with being old-pregnant and reluctantly polyamorous, and Jenny jokes about coming of age as a college gay in North Carolina and being a godmother with intense demon-fighting responsibilities. ABOUT ERIN JUDGE: Erin Judge is an accomplished comedian, writer, and performer. She co-wrote (with Tina Romero) the forthcoming horror comedy film Queens of the Dead, starring Margaret Cho, Katy O'Brian, Jaquel Spivey and more. Erin also wrote the award-winning novel Vow of Celibacy. Her previous comedy album, So Many Choices, is also available on Blonde Medicine. ABOUT JENNY CHALIKIAN: LA-based comedian Jenny Chalikian started out in North Carolina and quickly fell in love with stand-up comedy. After landing in LA in 2015, Jenny honed her voice working as a manager and a regular performer at the popular alt-comedy venue NerdMelt. Jenny blends observational comedy with personal anecdotes that touch on themes of identity, relationships, and the quirks of daily life. ABOUT YOU: You are someone reading these words, considering listening to this podcast and I commend you for it. To do a live comedy show for 8 years is a feat, but try upping the ante to doing it in a romance novel only store and franchise it to the the romance novel store's second location all the way across the country, THEN record an entire album. That has been the trajectory of Romantic Comedy, the long running comedy show at the wondrous gem that is The Ripped Bodice and we talk to co-host/co-creator Jenny Chalikian about what's been integral to Romantic Comedy's success. Well, technically Matt and Laura have been LITERALLY home this whole time but as far as This Is Rad! goes we record in Matt and Laura's living room for the first time since March 2020. We couldn't be happier that our first guest back is the one and only Jenny Chalikian. We have returned as the prophecy has foretold. Kyle and Matthew welcome back Anna Valenzuela and Jenny Chalikian for the third installment of their ongoing retrospective of the Battlestar Galactica reboot. This time they take a look at season two and in the process learn that a lot of stuff they thought was from season two is actually season three and instead season two is full of crazy stuff they almost forgot. This gets intense. Kyle and Anna excitedly yell a lot. We praise Grace Park for playing two charters who look exactly and yet feel entirely different from one another. We breakdown why the Chief is maybe the most complex character. We continue our campaign to elect Laura Roslin present of everything forever. Plus, after so much talk, it has finally arrived: FAT APOLLO enters the series! Part 2 of 2. Check out part 1 here! Alright #stoppies, I know we say this a lot, but it's true--this episode is our funniest one yet. Seriously, when else have we been able to snag 2 professional comedians (Emily Ruskowski & Jenny Chalikian) and one hysterical burlesque producer/professional babe/future youtube star (Sake Toomey) together in the same room, talking about boy bands? Since TODAY, that's when! We brought our grown ass friends that are also unashamed teenyboppers together for a very special 2 PART THUNDERDOME where they battle it out over whether O'Town's shamelessly sexual liquid nightmare of a debut album can beat out proto-Bieber boyband lil' bro Aaron Carter's early 00s disasterpiece Aaron's Party (Come Get It). Find out who Heather's favorite Backstreet Boy was, why Jacob from OTown had an octopus in his bedroom, and discover which of our panel had no choice but to write a HUNDREDS OF PAGES LONG Aaron Carter fan fiction as a child since they didn't have internet in their room. It's all so funny, we couldn't help but blow our liquid load a week early so you can "come get it" and be back for more next week for part 2. Get ready for some horny harmonies, prepubescent poetry, and a whole lot of hats on a very special episode of Make it Stop!

Anna Valenzuela and Jenny Chalikian have returned for another installment of our ongoing retrospective of Battlestar Galactica. First and foremost, let's all celebrate the fact that we have gotten Matthew addicted to the show. Now that he's as sick as the rest of us, everyone can dive in and explore season one of the series. At this point, the parallels between the show and the changing political climate of the time are really starting to show. For a show about space robots there sure are a lot of metaphors about 9/11 and the war on terror. Thrill as Burnside has his first hot takes about characters! Plus, Jenny and Anna have been doing rewatches and reflect on how time as influenced their feelings about different characters. The gang dig in and time flies. This retrospective has been super fun and we hope that it has encouraged some of you to watch along with us. This week on the show, we're trying something new and exciting. After years of talking about it, this is part one of a series of episodes breaking down one of the greatest sci-fi stories ever told: Battlestar Galactica. Joining Kyle and Matthew are returning guests Anna Valenzuela and Jenny Chalikian, our newly minted official BSG experts. In this first installment we breakdown what Battlestar Galactica is, where it came from, how it came into each of our lives (Except Matthew who had not see the show when we recorded this. He's subsequently been bullied into it, don't worry), and we break down the cast of characters and the two part mini series that launched the show. Yes, this is a three hour episode and we don't even get into the series proper. This is gonna get deep and we're excited to try something new. If you love the show we have some real fun riffs for you. If you haven't watched the show, pretend you are sitting next to Matthew and maybe by the end we'll have tempted you into taking the plunge. We'll be doing these episodes periodically mixed in with regular episodes. So spin up your FTL and get ready. So say we all. On March 30th, 2018, the place we called home came to a close. So many incredible people had a part in making this place magical since it first opened as NerdMelt on April 2, 2011. We found out 9 days before closing that we were in our last week of shows. I spent 5 of those days reaching out to everybody I possibly could to sit down and share their memories with me for this video. I was amazed at how eager everybody was to be a part of this. A huge thanks to every comedian and member of the NerdMelt family that took the time to rush over to NerdMelt in the final days to film this with me.
