In September 2000, Shelia Toomey, a reporter for the Anchorage Daily News, wrote a front-page story about six unsolved homicides in Anchorage.  The article displayed the photos of the six victims. All were women; five were Native Alaskan, and one was African American.  Nothing connected the victims, and the police did not know if they were looking for one, two, or six murderers. Serial Killer Joshua Wade eventually admitted that he murdered Della Brown, the last murder victim profiled in Toomey's article. Investigators believed Wade might have also killed some of the other victims. The police also found the murderer of Cynthia Henry, but the murders of the other four women listed in the article remained unsolved. One of these women was Genevieve Tetpon. Police initially thought they were on the right path to solving Genevieve's murder, but they hit a dead end and had nowhere else to turn. Book Vs. Movie: Biloxi BluesThe 1984 Neil Simon Play Vs. the 1988 Mike Nichols FilmThe Margos continue their month of plays in January (we have “Musicals in March”) with Neil Simon's middle offer of the “Eugene Chronicles” with 1984's Biloxi Blues. The story is a fictionalized version of the life of Simon about Eugene Morris Jerome of Brooklyn, NY, and his time as an enlisted soldier in Biloxi, Mississippi. Starring Matthew Broderick (who played the role of Eugene in every chapter), the play was an instant hit earning Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Featured Player to Barry Miller (Arnold Epstein.) Broderick was awarded his first Tony Award as Eugene Jerome in Brighton Beach Memoirs in 1983. Miller also won the Theatre World Award and the Drama Desk Award in 1985 for Biloxi Blues, which may be why he was NOT invited to the movie. Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert would later pan the film for not hiring Miller. The critics loved the comedy and performances, as well as Simon's outward discussion of the treatment of Jewish people at the time. The Greyhounds ascended to the top of college lacrosse in 2012, winning Loyola's first NCAA Division I Championship. Toomey has directed the Greyhounds to an even 108 wins, an average of 12.2 per season since 2012, and he enters the 2023 campaign with a 168-85 career record in his first 17 years at Loyola. Early in the 2016 season, Toomey became the second coach in program history to reach and cross the 100-win plateau. He stands second on the program's all-time wins chart behind his college coach, Dave Cottle (181-70, 1983-2001). As a head coach, Toomey has coached 51 USILA All-Americans, 93 all-conference selections, 21 conference positional or players or rookies of the year, a Tewwaraton Award winner and five finalists and 28 USILA Scholar All-Americans. Of the award winners, Pat Spencer became the most decorated player in program history during his 2019 senior season when he set the NCAA career record for assists and finished second all-time in points. He was the school's first winner of the Tewaaraton and the USILA Player of the Year Awards and became the school's first four-time All-American. Daryl and Toomey start the talk with some history of the band and Daryl's switch from bass to vocals. 3:05pm- Reacting to Tuesday night's Senate debate between Dr. Mehmet Oz and John Fetterman, The View's Sunny Hostin accused Oz of choosing to “bully a stroke victim.” Was Dr. Oz so dominant that he came off as “mean”? Did Fetterman's campaign hope the narrative would change from political issues to sympathy?  3:25pm- During Tuesday night's highly anticipated debate between Senate candidates Dr. Mehmet Oz and Lt. Governor John Fetterman, Fetterman noticeably struggled with his speech and seemingly had difficulty collecting his thoughts prior to answering questions. Rich speaks with listeners who react to the performances of both candidates.   3:45pm- During Tuesday's debate, Dr. Mehmet Oz brought up a 2013 incident in which John Fetterman brandished a shotgun and detained an unarmed, innocent black man who was jogging in Braddock, PA. Oz asked, “why not apologize?” 4:05pm- Lt. Governor John Fetterman told moderators he will not release his medical records prior to the November 8thelection—claiming he has been “very open” about his health struggles and that his doctor has declared him “fit to serve.”  4:15pm- While appearing on News Nation with Chris Cuomo, neurologist Dr. Huma Sheikh explained there is no guarantee John Fetterman will see improvements in his speech patterns and ability to speak spontaneously since he is already six months removed from the stroke he suffered.  4:20pm- During the debate, Dr. Mehmet Oz was asked whether he would support Lindsey Graham's proposed legislation to federally ban abortion after 15-weeks—Oz responded by stating he does not support any legislation that prevents states from making their own decisions on abortion.  4:35pm- Charles McElwee—Editor of Real Clear Pennsylvania—joins the show to recap Tuesday night's debate between Lt. Governor John Fetterman and Dr. Mehmet Oz. McElwee explains that he has heard from many Democrats who will not vote for Oz or leave the Senate portion of their ballot blank due to Fetterman's poor performance. Is the media responsible for failing to press Fetterman and his campaign harder on health concerns?  4:50pm- Appearing on MSNBC with Stephanie Rule, former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter referred to Dr. Mehmet Oz as a "complete fraud" and suggested that Oz's glorification of state's rights could be potentially harmful to black people in America.  4:55pm- During the debate, John Fetterman claimed to support fracking in Pennsylvania but could not explain away a 2018 interview where he stated he was against fracking.
