Andrew & Tara CONTINUE Their Road to James Gunn's Superman giving their Superman Returns Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Join Andrew Gordon & Tara Erickson as they soar back to the Man of Steel's world in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns (2006). After a five-year absence, Clark Kent / Superman (Brandon Routh, Dodgeball, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) returns to Earth only to discover that his love, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth, Blue Crush, 3000 Miles to Graceland), has moved on—and even has a young son, Jason. As Clark grapples with heartbreak, he uncovers a nefarious plot by Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey, American Beauty, The Usual Suspects) to use stolen Kryptonian technology to reforge the world in his image. Rounding out the stellar cast are James Marsden (Cyclops in X-Men, Enchanted) as Lois's fiancé Richard White, Parker Posey (the “Queen of Indies” in Party Girl, Best in Show) as tabloid editor Kitty Kowalski, Sam Huntington (Disturbia, I Am Number Four) as earnest photographer Jimmy Olsen, Frank Langella (Oscar-nominated for Frost/Nixon) as Perry White, and Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar, Designated Survivor) as Richard's brother, Stanford White. The spirit of Superman's father, Jor-El, is heard in archive audio of Marlon Brando (The Godfather, Apocalypse Now), tying this chapter back to the character's origins. Don't miss Tara & Andrew's breakdown of the film's most iconic moments—from the breathtaking sequence where Superman slows time to save Lois and Jason in that penthouse fall, to the jaw-dropping finale atop Lex's oceanic fortress, where Superman confronts a golden statue come to life. We'll discuss the soaring flight through Lois's apartment, the emotional “son of Krypton” reveal, and how Superman Returns balances nostalgia with new stakes for Earth's greatest hero. This week, Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with queer comedians Erin Judge (@iamerinjudge) and Jenny Chalikian (@jchalikian) to talk about why Blue Crush Should've Been Gay. This 2002 Cali surfer film may only have a 62% on Rotten Tomatoes but it has a 100% in Erin's heart.  Blue Crush stars Kate Bosworth and Michelle Rodriguez as Anne Marie and Eden, two surfer girls in Hawaii who are 1000% in love with one another. Since it's 2002, the movie tries to convince us that Anne Marie is interested in some football player dude, but we all know the truth. They even keep a third girl, Lena, around for the main purpose of making Anne Marie and Eden seem less gay for each other (but they aren't fooling anyone). It's a toss up for us when it comes to who is the queerest between Anne Marie and Eden. They both totally lose their minds over the professional surfer dykes with their wolf cuts and tiny bikinis and Eden makes zero attempt to hide her extreme jealousy when Anne Marie begins dating the football guy.  We know one thing for sure, Blue Crush Should've Been Gay. Erin and Jenny's new comedy album, Romantic Comedy: Live at the Ripped Bodice is available now; and if you happen to be in or near LA, you can check out the show in person! The Surfer’s Journal presents Soundings with Jamie Brisick

Leah Dawson grew up in Florida, and moved to Oahu to attend University of Hawaii, where she earned a BA in Creative Media in 2008. Soon after, she started work as a production assistant for the Vans Triple Crown, launching her into a career behind the camera. As a surfer, Dawson's approach is grounded in freedom of expression and dance, on all manner of crafts, with nods to the surfers who have informed her wave-riding odyssey—Rell Sunn, Margo Oberg, Jericho Poppler, and Lynne Boyer, to name but a few. She is the cofounder of Salty Sensations, in which she and her partners, Kassia Meador and Makala Smith, host surf retreats at select spots worldwide. She's also a co-founder of Changing Tides Foundation, a women-led organization that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. In this episode of Soundings, Dawson talks with Jamie Brisick about the importance of believing in something, attaining longevity as a surfer, the Blue Crush generation, the freedom of the glide, lineup dynamics, the power of uplifting others, and the most memorable moments she's captured through the viewfinder.

Ever since I first saw 1959's Gidget rerun on TV, I thought surfing and beach culture looked like the most fun you could have all summer. I might be an outsider still but my surf crush continues with every surfing movie or documentary that comes along, and the crazy-sexy fictional or real-life characters who make riding multi-story ocean waves look like a beach picnic. How could you not fall in love?https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comMoviesThe one and only Gidget, the story of the "beach generation." Moondoggie's right: there is no next best thing to love! For many, Point Break (1991) with Keanu Reeves is the ultimate rush — and surfing movie.  I prefer the technically impressive 2015 remake: it's an irresistible band of brothers story with romance and a bunch of gorgeous, knuckleheaded, uber-talented adrenaline junkies who have you rooting for them from word go. The trailer alone gives me a stomachache!"This is more than about surfing — it's about the choices you make in life." Chasing Mavericks is a feel-good story about found family, the roles we're sometimes given, and the passions that make all of us tick.Supposedly, it's a "teen drama" set in a surfing town in Australia, which is why I even started watching Surviving Summer, but I got sucked right into the clever script, acting, editing and gorgeous production values.Blue Crush is the ultimate summer surf-and-sand romantic drama.DocumentariesThe Endless Summer (1966) is the granddaddy of surfing documentaries, and it's totally groovy. The "girl gang" in the new 4-part documentary Surf Girls: Hawaii are barely into their 20s and yet so impressive, wildly talented and completely awesome. The sound design, pacing and incredible surfing skills and photography on display in the multi-part documentary 100 Foot Wave keep you on the edge of your seat. One version of the Ozaki Eight based on the Point Break remake. It's definitely one way to "honor the power of the ocean." But I'll need to celebrate the ocean from the shore, on a beach blanket.Find surfing oral histories, podcasts, virtual tours and more at the Surfing Heritage and Cultural Center online.Support the showIf you enjoyed this episode, please click share in your podcast app and tell your friends! From growing up in Sydney where he spent a decade as an amateur boxer… to his years studying acting and filmmaking at Australia's On Camera Studio… to landing roles in films like NEWCASTLE, BLUE CRUSH 2, RUN & GUN and TV shows like MELROSE PLACE, CSI: MIAMI, and BOSCH… to how his ex-wife encouraged him to write his new thriller SNAG… to his experience directing and starring in his highly stylized neo-noir western… to the hurdles of shooting in New Mexico during the winter… to the true meaning of “networking” in Hollywood and the importance of keeping real life relationships above all else… Ben's story is a terrific example of why it is crucial to always stay grounded and true to yourself as you traverse an industry built on fantasy and make believe.

In episode 31 astrologers Kristina Martin and Tara Redfield discuss the surprising forthcoming nuptials between Hollywood funnyman, Justin Long and Blue Crush star, Kate Bosworth. This couple's recent engagement appears to be a whirlwind romance that has solid potential! In Justin's birth chart, we see a plucky Gemini sun paired with a more slow moving, sensual Taurus Moon. We also see some interesting conjunctions happening in Leo and Cancer which tell us that being admired for his authority is important to him - as well as finding a partner he can cook with!  At first glance into Kate's natal chart, we find multiple Virgo themes, including a Virgo Moon and a sixth house Sun, making her purified, demure looks and styling a clear signature! With her Mars in Aquarius in the 8th house, we see that she has a deep urge to fight for humanitarian causes (hello she made a movie on human trafficking). Just like last week's couple (Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel), we find that both Justin and Kate also have the Venus square Pluto signature, showing us a strong need for privacy in relationships. Together, their metered Earth moons denote a similar need for a comfortable material existence and stability. Opposing Mars' show they can excite each other, as do the Sun and Uranus aspects we discovered...but do we think this new awakening can last? Give Me That D: A Disney Channel Original Movie Breakdown Podcast

This week on GMTD things get…. Sincere?? We're breaking down (and sobbing over) Rip Girls with true gem of a human, Alison Banowsky! Some would say Rip Girls walked so Blue Crush could run- there's a theme!! Not only do we have the beauty of Hawaii as a backdrop, a nuanced step-mom, an incredible plot with a dead mom and the deed to a plantation going to a 13 year old… We also have a whale festival (dream) a kiss in the middle of the film (maybe first ever??) and a bad-ass surfer chick clique we're dying to be a part of. The film is so decidedly female and it REALLY IS GOOD (we can't stress that enough)! Enjoy!!!

Tune in to hear: why Emily thinks she never saw it when she was younger, how Kallie stands behind the movie & wished she was a Roxy/Billabong girl but most importantly, the ladies chatting and laughing through the film's wardrobe, music, plot and lines. This is a fun one

What better way to celebrate pride month than two queer women with very similar hair pointing out all the gay moments in Blue Crush to their very straight friend?! Real talk though, this movie is very much a product of 2002, and 'made for chicks by dudes' and we speculate wildly on the better movie we know is hiding inside the waves. Comedian Rachel Scanlon (More than Friends, ILYRS) joins Celey & producer/actress Lila Claghorn (RL Stine's Story Club, Dave.) to lay some pipe and get wet brah!
