SEASON 3 EPISODE 149: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Donald Trump is now getting into bed with a convicted pedophile. Figuratively. Donald Trump has already cut a deal with a pedophile. A two-day deal to protect her. To PROTECT Ghislaine Maxwell from being prosecuted. Two days of immunity. It’s immunity. It’s immunity at the direction of Donald Trump. Immunity. What may be a precursor to a deal. To a pardon. To her walking out of jail earlier than the year 2037. This is sending the Deputy Attorney General, previously one of your own personal scumbag sleazebag shill lawyer mouthpieces, to meet with a convicted child sex trafficker who is not eligible to be released until she’s 76 years old, giving her two days’ worth of temporary immunity in which she can’t be further prosecuted for anything she says to him. You have ALREADY CUT A DEAL with a pedophile. You, Todd Blanche, are already figuratively in bed with a pedophile. YOU, Donald Trump, are already figuratively in bed with a pedophile. YOU, Trump supporters and blind MAGA cult slaves, YOU are already figuratively in bed with a pedophile. Sure, make a deal. Art of the deal. Trump’s the great dealmaker. Make the deal with the rapist of children. Of the woman who essentially held the girls down. Make the deal with the woman who sold the children to the rapists. MAKE that deal, Trump. And you know what that deal is called – it’s called selling your soul to the devil. If you have any soul left. You, Donald Trump, and all who support him, stand on the precipice. You are figuratively getting into bed with Ghislaine Maxwell. You are figuratively getting into bed with a pedophile. You are figuratively getting into bed with the process of COVERING UP PEDOPHILIA. There is now no way out of Trumpstein for Trump. ALSO: Anybody notice that on Friday Trump said reporters shouldn't ask him about Epstein, they should ask Clinton or the Harvard President: "I'll give you a list." So...he confirmed THERE'S A LIST and there's a LIST HE HAS and there's a LIST HE HAS THAT HE COULD GIVE YOU BUT IS COVERING-UP? AND RYAN WALTERS, EXIT STAGE RIGHT: Oklahoma's lunatic Trump-bible-thumping head of public schools? Reportedly had porn playing on a monitor in his office during the executive session of the State Board of Education. And then couldn't figure how to turn it off. It's a classic story: the loudest moralist has the least morals. B-Block (47:28) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Great news! A QAnon prophet says there are multiple Hillarys, Obamas and Bidens. Cool! An army? With which to kick Trump's ass? Let's goooooo. Senator Mike Lee again proves he is just a balding 5th Grader who just flunked Social Studies again. And while you may still be wasting your time complaining about Colbert, CBS has gone full obey-in-advance to placate FCC Commissioner Brendan "Don't call me Josef Goebbels" Carr. There will be an ombudsman inside CBS News snitching to corporate on things the CBS News people are doing that might displease Fuhrer Trump. C-Block (49:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Did I ever tell you I was in a movie? And the star bothered to show up to see my little cameo shot because he was such a fan of mine? And he was a great guy and we stayed in touch for 20 years? And his name was...RANDY QUAID? "Dead Solid Perfect" may be the best golf movie of all-time, Quaid was (then, anyway) a delight, it has THE scene the golfers love the most starring actress Corinne Bohrer, and the director who personally asked me to be in it (and I'm terrible in it) was named Bobby Roth. And last week I worked with Bobby Roth for the first time in 37 years. He's a documentarian now and the new one is on saving democracy and he wanted me in it. All part of life's rich pageant!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Ellen Adair and Eric Gilde discuss the 2002 Disney film "The Rookie." They introduce the film (2:02), with an overview of the story, the cast, and filmmakers, and review the 20-80 baseball scouting grades for rating the film (5:07). Amount of Baseball (13:02) revels in this embarrassment of riches, and the excellence of the District Championship Game. Baseball Accuracy (20:35) cites Jim Morris's own opinion of the film's accuracy, and his relationship to his father, along with the radar sign scene, and the St. Rita story. There are oil rig gameplay questions. Did he try out in jeans? Did his dad get the baseball? Steve Cox erasure and some other accuracies with Jim Morris's MLB debut, Royce Clayton's foul ball, Morris pitching "for two seasons," and his tryout in the rain. The scouts also discuss his teammates Jose Canseco, Wade Boggs, and Kevin Stocker, the 1999 Devil Rays. The casting of the RuffNecks is hilarious, including the batter Carlton Fisk-ing the ball in the wrong direction. Randy Quaid's pitching motion, plus smart use of his pitching double Jeff Dowdy. Eric fact-checks Texas distances, and there is an Ellen Adair Breakdown on pitchers hitting 98 MPH in 1999 and today (h/t Nick Pollack). Can Ellen name more than five who threw more than 98 MPH in 99? Storytelling (49:34) dissects the interesting film structure created by its central bargain, the function of the nuns, and the Disney veneer balanced with excellent editing and cinematography. Ellen appreciates attention being paid to the football/baseball disparity, and both laud the excellent storytelling with the early scene with the father. But where is the middle child for the first hour of the film? They discuss the first minor league game sequence, the child's questions about the Devil Rays, and the relief pitcher as hero (w/r/t Seranthony Dominguez, JoJo Romero and Ranger Suarez). Brief St. Patrick's Day Accuracy. Score (1:11:22) addresses Carter Burwell's use of flute and John Bissell's music supervision, including Guy Clark's "Stuff That Works," Willie Nelson's "Nothing I Can Do About It Now," Elvis Presley's "Run On," and House of Pain's "Jump Around." Acting (1:17:14) discusses the performances of Dennis Quaid, Rachel Griffiths, Brian Cox, Angus T. Jones and Blue Deckert. Delightfulness of Catcher (1:21:24) praises the perfect catcher behavior of Owls catcher Joel de la Garza, along with great acting by Angelo Spizzirri. The catcher at the try-out and at Jim Morris's debut also do not disappoint. Delightfulness of Announcer (1:24:56) considers the benefits of the announcer being a character in the rest of the film, and the great performance by David Blackwell. Good storytelling with the Orlando Rays announcer. Lack of Misogyny (1:27:32) considers the strength of Lori the character versus her story function, and some disappointment on the gendered role of the children and the impetus for Lori's reversal. No spoilers on the following segments: Yes or No (1:33:01), Six Degrees of Baseball (1:38:59), Favorite Moment (1:40:58) Least Favorite Moment (1:42:08), Scene We Would Have Liked to See (1:44:30), Dreamiest Player (1:46:44), Favorite Performance (1:47:42), and Next Time (1:49:03). What's for dinner? If you're a kid in 1950s suburbia , you'd better not ask too many questions. In PARENTS (1989), young Michael begins to suspect that Mom and Dad (played by Mary Beth Hurt and a terrifyingly chipper Randy Quaid) might have a taste for something…unconventional. Is it just his overactive imagination, or is the “leftover meat” in the fridge a little too fresh? Prepare for a nightmarish descent into pastel-colored paranoia, where every meal feels like a trap and every smile hides a secret. We're serving up a full plate of horror, humor, and unsettling family values in this week's episode of The Blind Rage Podcast.
The movie is very forceful, and it deals with many of the questions that people face when they're in a monogamous relationship with another and the plot thickens as this shunned woman becomes obsessed with Dan (played by Michael Douglas) and the rest of the family. Aside from Ellen being best known for her performances in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation & Fatal Attraction, I would have to say that she is a very talented and wonderful person. She definitely went into great detail what it was like to work on set with Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, and Anne Archer. The also explained what the chemistry was like between her and Michael and Glenn; I believe that it would be something non-forgettable. Ellen also went into detail about working with Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid, and Miriam Flynn. We spoke about the squirrel scene which I find to be the best scene in the entire movie. She is currently working with Scott Goldberg in a project that is very top secret at the moment but soon will be revealed.
It's the summer of '96, and aliens have just declared war on Earth. In this explosive episode of Jay Movie Talk, I dive into the all-out spectacle that is Independence Day. From Will Smith's star-making performance to that Iconic Presidential speech, I break down why this movie still hits nearly 30 years later.I talk about Roland Emmerich's blockbuster formula, Jeff Goldblum's tech genius, and why Randy Quaid might've low-key stolen the show. I also dig into the film's legacy, its influence on modern disaster flicks, and ask does it still holds up today? So fire up your fighter jet, boot up that 1996 laptop, and join me as i relive the ultimate alien invasion flick
Your two alien-slaying trivia nerds are back, and this time they’re firing up the VHS and saluting Independence Day — the film that blew up the White House, made Will Smith the King of July 4th, and gave us the only speech that rivals St. Crispin’s and “Four score.” The TMI guys explain how the movie was born at a press conference, written in a hotel room, and sold in 48 hours — all with the intent of crushing Tim Burton. You’ll learn why the Pentagon pulled support (spoiler: Area 51 drama), how Goldblum improvised his way through the movie and the cigar smoke, and why Randy Quaid nearly saved the world in a crop duster. Also covered: mass UFO panic in Orange County, Lebanese censorship courtesy of Hezbollah, and the moment Bill Clinton watched the White House explode from inside the White House. It’s a tale of German visionaries, binary code, K-Y jelly, patriotic pee scenes, and a sci-fi B-movie that accidentally rewrote the playbook for modern blockbusters. Today, we celebrate… Too Much Information.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Buddies tackled Bill Belichick's "The Art of Winning" with the religious devotion only Patriots fans can muster. The Buddies got to chatting about why selfish players are actually fine, the tragic lack of insider Patriots secrets, and whether comparing NFL salary caps to office vlookups should be a crime. They also debated who should play Belichick in a biopic (Dennis Quaid vs. Randy Quaid, depending on how crazy things get). So grab your tattered hoodie, your "I f*cked that up" attitude, and join us as we read through the Greatest Coach of All-Time's new book. I grew up on Route 66 and have road trips in my veins. I've driven all over this great country, visited every single state and seen thousands of interesting things. Nothing inspires me more than a good road trip film — if you're the same way, check out one of this week's recommendations. All of the my picks on this week's list are pretty well known, which makes them so much fun to revisit. If you haven't seen one or all of them in a few years, what better time to revisit them?Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985)There's nothing Pee-wee Herman loves more than his bicycle. Unfortunately for him, spoiled frenemie Francis Buxton loves it to, and hires someone to steal it for him. A distraught Pee-wee organizes a search party to find his bicycle and eventually hits the road and crosses multiple states in search of his irreplicable bike. Join Pee-wee and all the friends he meets along the way as he goes on his adventure. The Muppet Movie (1979)Life's like a movie, write your own ending! In the first full-length Muppet film, Kermit is convinced by a lost agent to head to Hollywood to fulfill his dream of making millions of people happy. Along his journey, Kermit meets a joke-telling bear named Fozzie, a weirdo named Gonzo, a rock band called the Electric Mayhem (led by Dr. Teeth), and the world's most beautiful women, Miss Piggy. Will Kermit and his friends reach Hollywood before Doc Hopper catches Kermit and forces him to become the mascot for his restaurant? I hope so, because there are a lot more Muppet movies after this one! The NeverEnding Story (1984)While hiding from school bullies, young Bastion acquires a book promising a never ending story and skips school, hiding in the attic to read it. The book tells the story of Atreyu and his quest to save Fantasia from a darkness known as The Nothing. The more Bastian reads, the more it seems his own life is becoming entertwined with the book itself! Featuring a hit theme song and a luck dragon, The NeverEnding Story is a journey not to be missed. National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)If you've ever gone on a road trip, either as a child or a parent, you'll relate to the Griswolds as they drive across the country in their new station wagon from Chicago to Wallyworld! Directed by Harold Ramis and starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Anthony Michael Hall, and Dana Barron, and Randy Quaid, and featuring cameos from comedians including Eugene Levy and John Candy, among others. As a kid I identified as oldest sibling Rusty, and as a parent I can't help but see a little bit of Clark in the rearview mirror.Spring is here and there's no better time to roll down your windows, put the pedal to the metal, and hit the open road. If you can't fit a road trip into your current schedule, watching one of these movies about journeys is the next best thing! This is a public episode. 200 EPISODES!! It's been a long time coming, but we finally made it! 200 episodes of the Dissect That Film Podcast! What a better way to celebrate a massive milestone than by jumping into a genre we don't play around in too often, comedy. More specifically, sports comedy. This week, we look at the Farrelly Brothers film that came after there massive hit Dumb and Dumber, 1996's KINGPIN. With the comedy chops of Woody Harrelson and Randy Quaid, it shows the unorthodox partnership of a washed up, one handed former pro bowler and a Amish prodigy. What else needs to be said? Well I guess we should ask, is it underrated? Why did it fail at the box office? Why don't these movies exist anymore? Lets try to answer those and more as we celebrate this massive achievement. This is the full interview with dance captain Jeremy Benton, where he reveals further details of what really happened behind the scenes. You'll also learn more about Evi's tumultuous past, and how the havoc she brought to Lone Star Love was just one example in a long history of troublemaking for this tempestuous individual. Danielle goes big for St. Patrick's Day with the (probably mildly offensive to Irish everywhere) 1999 mini-series, The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns. When American, Randy Quaid, heads to Ireland on a mysterious work trip, he gets more than he bargained for when he realizes he's sharing a home with a leprechaun (Colm Meaney, obviously). He makes quite the impression on the small town (and Sam), when he immediately peeping-toms his beautiful neighbor, then trespasses on her property, and then somehow talks the town priest into taking his side when she complains; it's fine though, they're love interests. That can't matter less, however, because he quickly gets involved in the easily-prevented war between the faires and leprechauns. These immortal folk, who control all of nature, are forever at odds. When the fighting grows between their kind and Mother Nature starts to suffer, well-known Irish comedian Whoopi Goldberg (????), as their despotic Great Banshee, flies in to make it way worse by giving them the curse of mortality. When Princess Jessica of the fairies and leprechaun Mickey Muldoon, son of Colm Meaney, fall in love at a (possibly racist) masked ball, they soon realize that mortality will be the death of them (duh). Will these two kids make it? Will Whoopi Goldberg ever figure out her Irish accent? Will Randy Quaid end up behind bars where he likely belongs? Or will the war destroy them all and nature itself? The stakes have never been higher (and less necessary) this week on Book Retorts.

This morning, Jeff and Jeremy dive into the wild, weird, and downright gross habits people admit to in the shower—trust us, you'll want to scrub your brain after this one. Good thing science is stepping up with waterproof glass to keep the madness contained! Then, the guys debate: could you stomach a fish sandwich every day for 40 days without repeating a recipe? It's Lent season, and Jeremy's already gagging at the thought. The conversation takes a turn when they revisit Gene Hackman's death—turns out, it might not be the conspiracy-fueled mystery some thought, but Randy Quaid's still out there waving his tinfoil flag. Plus, a life lesson: never bite the hand that feeds you, or you might just get shanked—Jeff's got a story to back that up. And in a shocking twist, Jeff, now 50, confesses he just learned narwhals aren't mythical creatures. Yep, the “unicorn of the sea” is real, and he's shook. Tune in for laughs, chaos, and a little too much information—it's Jeff and Jeremy at their finest! #ShowerWeirdos #WaterproofGlass #FishSandwichChallenge #GeneHackmanMystery #RandyQuaidConspiracy #DontBiteTheHand #NarwhalShock #JeffAndJeremyPodcast #MorningMayhem #WeirdAndWild

What happens when Shakespeare meets Texas, bluegrass, and a Broadway-bound disaster? Lone Star Love had all the makings of a crowd-pleasing hit—an inventive twist on The Merry Wives of Windsor, music by The Red Clay Ramblers, and a history of successful regional productions. But when the show set its sights on Broadway, everything started to unravel. From an A-list comedian dropping out to Randy Quaid coming in with an oversized codpiece (and even bigger demands), this is a backstage saga filled with twists, turmoil, and a production that never made it to the Great White Way. In this episode, we're diving deep into the wild journey of Lone Star Love, exploring its promising start, the chaotic Seattle tryout, and the fallout that left Broadway dreams in the dust. With behind-the-scenes drama, big personalities, and a show that spiraled into theatrical infamy, this is a cautionary tale of how even the best-laid plans can go hilariously—and disastrously—off track. How long does edge last? What won't you watch Jack Nicholson do? Does realism help or hurt? And how big should a hotel room be? In this episode Sean is joined by Timm and Jeremy to talk about 1973's The Last Detail, an adaptation of the Darryl Ponicsan book about 2 sailors assigned to escort a kleptomaniac, junior sailor to naval prison. Considered at the time to be Jack Nicholson's greatest performance, The Last Detail delivers warmth and humor alongside utter hopelessness in a 104 minute package. email: openmicmovies@latertaterfilms.comwebsite: openmicmovies.buzzsprout.cominstagram: @latertaterfilms

Your rogue squirrels of seasonal sagas are taking a look at this staple of the irreverent modern Christmas classics canon. You’ll learn all about the physical injuries that Chevy Chase received on the set, the emotional injuries that the two tweens portraying the Griswold siblings also received on the set, the reason we were cheated out of a Christie Brinkley cameo, and the mysterious absence of Lindsey Buckingham’s beloved “Holiday Road.” You’ll also discover how Chevy’s poor behavior directly lead to the creation of a little movie called Home Alone, and how the Christmas Vacation has surprising connections with American Beauty, It’s a Wonderful Life, Lethal Weapon and Betty Boop. Jordan opens up about his crush on Martin Scorsese’s TikTok star daughter, and Heigl shares his fascination with Randy Quaid, who is currently on the run from a band of murderous “star whackers” — present whereabouts unknown. The Griswalds Are Back! Only this time, they're staying home for Christmas in this third entry of the highly popular "National Lampoon's Vacation" which started in the early '80s. Chevy Chase once again returns as the enduringly hapless Clark Griswald while Beverly D'Angelo also returns as Ellen Griswald, his long-suffering wife. And for the third film in a row, their children Audrey (Juliette Lewis) and Rusty (Johnny Galecki) are played by ENTIRELY different actors. They also have loads of extended family visiting including in-laws played by Randy Quaid, Doris Roberts, EG Marshall, Diane Ladd, William Hickey, John Randolph, and Miriam Flynn. Of course with a full house, loads of holiday chaos ensues including rogue squirrels, dried-out turkeys, and super-charged cats! Celebrating its 35th Anniversary, let's revisit this beloved holiday comedy directed by Jeremiah Chechick and both written and produced by the late great John Hughes. Has your Christmas season ever consisted of a squirrel terrorizing your family, a rusty eyesore flea-bitten RV parked out in front of your house, putting up so many Christmas lights you blackout the rest of the city, a SWAT team attacking your house during a kidnapping, etc., etc.? That's just what's in the stockings, not to mention what's under the Christmas tree, in this week's movie, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Thanksgiving is over, Black Friday black eyes are healing and the leftovers are stale so it's time to get some Christmas movies under our belt this season. Christmas Vacation was the Vacation franchise rebound from the utter failure that was European Vacation. Chevy Chase returns as the dim-witted Clark Griswold, who this time is just trying to put together the perfect Christmas for his family. It's a beautiful plan on paper until you put a guy named Clark Griswold in charge of it, and add in Cousin Eddie played by the perfect for the role, Randy Quaid. Of course Clark, as he always does, tries too hard and things get burnt, soaked, maimed, etc. You know, like your traditional Christmas. This movie is a go-to Christmas classic for many and it deserves a deeper dive into. So let's tear the gift wrapping off this movie and dig in! Christmas Vacation also stars Beverly D'Angelo, Johnny Galecki, Juliette Lewis, John Randolph, Diane Ladd, E.G. Marshall, Doris Roberts, Miriam Flynn, William Hickey, Sam McMurray, Nicholas Guest, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Brian Doyle-Murray and Nicollete Scorsese. Send us a textPut on your bowling shoes, grab your ball, and roll right into this one. We're talking Kingpin from 1996! Starring Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, Bill Murray, and Vanessa Angel, the second Farrelly Brothers movie may have been a gutter ball in theaters, but it was a strike to us. There's a lot to like, most notably an all-time comedic performance from Bill Murray. A road trip movie with an odd couple relationship, Kingpin reminded us of a host of other similar movies. So in true PCY fashion we draft odd couple movies to close out the show. If you enjoy the show, please rate and review us on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts app or wherever you listen. Originally available to Patreon patrons 6th July. We recorded an episode about the 1996's biggest movie, Independence Day. For election year, we're looking at movies 'about' the American presidency, and how better to do that than to embrace the cheesy American exceptionalist pornography of this alien-invasion effects-spectacular? It's a sprawling SF comedy about incalculable mass murder and the genocide of humanity. Bill Pullman looks decent, Will Smith quips, Jeff Goldblum recycles, Randy Quaid gets an anal probe, billions die, and a good time is had by all. Don't worry, the dog survives... For now. Spoiler alert: this is deeply stupid, but we both kinda like it anyway. Features UK election chat, and US SCOTUS / Presidential debate banter.
