(This podcast was previously published on May 20, 2022)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   Recently, I was really upset when a TV newsman said the 1921 Tulsa Massacre was the worst racial incident in the history of the United States.   I said, "What about the Civil War?"  (and also the horrible years of reconstruction following the Civil War?)   The statement made by the TV newsman caused me to "puff up" and my flesh took on a type of scoffing attitude that was not good.   I was reminded of this scripture:   Matthew 5:30  And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.   I have found TV evening news to provoke me in a bad way so when I understood that, I deleted the daily recordings from my television DVR.   I have felt myself grow arrogant over some of the reports, feeling "How can you say that?"  As a result I even take on "scoffing", which is an evil fruit of the flesh.   If I want to keep up with those things going on in the world, I can check the written headlines on CNN International on my Kindle tablet.  I find writings do not usually provoke me to evil.   Also I find sometimes seeing what people are doing today is depressing and could discourage me if I allow it to do so.   Jesus says:  Matthew 24:12-13   And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.   When we find ourselves in this position, we usually need to eliminate that activity from our lives.   Romans 13:12-14  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.  Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.   The apostle Paul told us:  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: (Romans 7:18)   So if your right hand offends you, cut it off.  Just stop doing that thing that provokes to evil.   The flesh never improves and it is with us as long as we live on this earth.   We control our flesh by walking in the Spirit, by doing that brought to our attention by the Spirit.  We also control our flesh by cutting off those things (or people) who provoke our flesh to do evil.   But we must not continue allowing the flesh to rise up, for to do so is a type of death to us, keeping us from doing that assignment given to us by God.   In the end times, iniquity will abound and we certainly don't need to give entrance to things that we find detrimental to our peace and unity.   We live in a time where we see much delusion and iniquity.   As we wait for the return of Jesus, our goal should be the following as expressed by the apostle Peter.   II Peter 3:13-14  Nevertheless we, according to HIS promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.   (This present earth will never be made righteousness but will grow worse and worse to the end.)   14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of HIM in peace, without spot, and blameless.   Paul says:   II Timothy 3:13  But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.   We keep ourselves in joy and peace of God as we go forward, focusing on HIS truth as given us by the Holy Spirit.  We can't allow ourselves to focus on that which people are doing but rather we keep ourselves focused on that which God tells us and on the good which God has done for us and the many examples in the Bible which show overcoming through believing that which God says.   Therefore put on the Lord Jesus Christ, the Word of God.

(This podcast was previously published on July 14, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   The wrath of God, the great tribulation, is coming upon this world because of the increase of evil in this present world.  The evil we see today is a sign showing us the closeness of the coming of Jesus and the wrath of God that will come at the end of this present world.   No man knows exactly when the great tribulation will come or when Jesus will return to gather the elect from off this present earth, but we have signs.   When we see the leaves appear on the trees don't we know spring is upon us?   Jesus explains to us in Luke 21, that it will be the same today.   As the wickedness increases around us and men approve wickedness, this signals the pending wrath of God that will come upon this world.   One of the signs is increase of homosexuals, as it was in the day of Sodom before God destroyed Sodom.  (Genesis 19)   What God says in Bible about homosexuals and lesbians:   Romans 1:26-27 ... For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:  And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.   So we know this is one of the sins which brings the wrath of God in the destruction at the end of this present world.  As we see the increase of this sins, we can know the wrath of God is not far away.    *****   Genesis 19   And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;   (Angels look like natural men.  Angels do not have wings.  Cherubims have wings, not angels.)   2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.   3 And he (Lot) pressed upon them greatly;   (Lot knew the evil of men in Sodom and he was trying to protect these 2 "men" from the evil that he knew could come if they remained in the street of Sodom overnight.  Lot did not know these 2 men were actually angels of God.)   and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.   4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:   (These homosexuals were from every quarter of the city of Sodom.  Sodom was filled with homosexuals.)   5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.   ("know them" ... have sex with them)   6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,   7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.   (Lot knew the wickedness planned against these 2 strangers by the men of Sodom.  It is amazing that Lot called the men of Sodom "brethren", and that Lot chose to live among the wickedness of this city for Lot could have lived anywhere.  Yet Lot was righteous for we read that in II Peter 2:7-9  And  (God) delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)   Genesis 19   8 (Lot said)  Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.   9 And they (the men of Sodom) said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow (Lot) came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.   10 But the men (the angels) put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.   11 And they (the angels) smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.   (Angels have great power of God.)   12 And the men (the angels) said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:   13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it.   14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.   15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.   16 And while he lingered, the men (the angels) laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.   (The 2 angels literally drug Lot and his wife and his 2 daughters out of the city of Sodom.)   17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he (the angel) said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.   (Then Lot fights against the word of God that is carried by the angels of God.)   18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:   19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:   20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.   21 And he (the angel) said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.   22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.   23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.   24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;   25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.   26 But his wife (Lot's wife) looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. ***   To us today God says:   * Separate yourselves from those people who call themselves Christians but they reject portions of scripture and go in another way.  For they are anti-Christ, opposite from the Word.   * Follow those scriptures that are brought to you by the Holy Spirit for they are stepping stones leading you to the right place in the sight of God.   The wrath of God, the great tribulation, is coming upon this present world before God destroys this heaven and earth.   (The plagues of God that are coming:  Revelation 8-16)   ***   That which we must do throughout the day, each day.   Philippians 4   6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.   7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.   Is there anything that troubles you?  any person? any fear? any dread?   If so, this means you have not discussed it with God in prayer or you have not yet heard from God about the matter or you have not focused on that which God said to you about the matter.   In that case, you need to talk with God again and really get it established by God and focus on that, doing what is right in the sight of God.   Then you can live in peace instead of torment.

(This podcast was previously published on November 24, 2020)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   Both Peter and Jude warned us there would be false teachers among the churches in the end times.  (II Peter 2 & Jude)   Jesus also warned us about the people who come to us in the last days, saying,  "Jesus is Lord."  Because they say HE is Christ, they will deceive many.  (Matthew 24:1-4)   In November, 2020, a man sent me an email identifying himself to me as being a pastor.   He told me how much he liked my book, Preparing Yourself for the Return of Jesus.  (Amazon)   He asked me to send him more books for his church and for his pastors.   I explained that Amazon does not give me books and that he would have to get my books directly from Amazon.   I also explained that Amazon allows us to give free e-books which he would need to order from Amazon.   In his next letter, he signed his name "Reverend".   I responded by telling him no man should call himself "Reverend".   Jesus called HIS ministers as follows:   Ephesians 4:11-12  And HE (Jesus) gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;   For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:   There is only one time the word "Reverend" is used in the Bible.   Psalm 111:9 HE (God) sent redemption unto HIS people: HE hath commanded HIS covenant for ever: holy and reverend is HIS (God's) name.   This man responded immediately saying he agreed and he would remove the name "Reverend" and tell his pastors to remove the name "Reverend" and he was sorry he had done this.   But he twisted everything and said we should not use the name "Pastor" either.   I told him immediately that it is proper to use the name "Pastor" for Jesus HIMSELF called HIS ministers by the names:  apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher  (Ephesians 4:11)   But not "Reverend".   *****   The next letter he sent to me he signed his name, "Evangelist".   I wrote to him immediately, trying to straighten this out.   I tried to help him see the difference between Evangelist and Pastor in the calling of Jesus.   Evangelist goes from city to city speaking to the world salvation through Jesus.   Pastor usually works with one church group in one city, giving them teachings from the Bible.   ***   In his next letter, he signed his name, "Brother in Christ".   In that letter he asked me to pray that God would provide for him a computer and a projector.   He explained that it was very hard to share my teachings with his church group without a projector.   I sent him the following letter.   Matthew 11 Jesus says:  HIS yoke is easy.  So if something is difficult you can know you are trying to do something you should not be doing.   Therefore if it is hard to share my teachings, just share Bible.   Joan Boney   ***   In his next email, he asked me to send him a computer and a projector.   I responded:  "If I were you, I would get a part time job or a job at night and work until I had enough money to buy a computer and projector."  Joan Boney   ***   He responded that he could not do secular work because it took all his time to do the ministry work.   I thought of the apostle Paul who did secular work as a tent maker and still went from church to church speaking as an apostle and teacher.   In this letter, he asked me if I would send him a computer that we are not using.   ***   I turned to God and asked God:  "What do YOU want me to do?"   I had the answer rather quickly.   I sent email to this man as follows:   "I see you as a beggar, thief, and extortioner.  And if you choose to go this way, you doom yourself to always being a beggar, thief, and an extortioner."  Joan Boney   (It was clear that this man did not turn to God over his needs but turned to humans for them to supply his needs.)   ***   The apostle Paul says:   I Corinthians 5:11  But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.   13  put away from among yourselves that wicked person.   This is what I will do with this man.   *****   In this man's first letter to me, he placed an attachment showing an outline of subjects and scriptures which he planned to teach to his church group the next Sunday.   How could a man this confused in thinking write such a clear, concise outline?  I wondered.   Then I realized he probably didn't write that outline.  It was probably another person's outline which he planned to teach to his church group.   *****   This is just one example of how very mixed up preachers are today in church groups.   When a man has no understanding, I do not believe "that man" is from God.   When we have the Spirit of Truth in us, HE will teach us all things, remind us of all that Jesus has said to us, guide us into all truth, and show us things to come.   John 14:26  Jesus says:   But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in MY  name, HE shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.   John 16:13  Jesus says:  Howbeit when HE, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE will guide you into all truth: for HE shall not speak of HIMSELF; but whatsoever HE shall hear, that shall HE speak: and HE will shew you things to come.

(This podcast was previously published on May 12, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   In April, 2021, a report appeared on CNN which said the earth has shifted on its axis.  The scientists went on to say this was caused by the changing climate which they said people have caused.   Most scientists show they do not know the Bible.   Genesis 1:1   In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.   At one point in time, God brought a flood and destroyed all life on this earth except for Noah and his family and the creatures which were in the ark.   After the destruction, God said to Noah.   Genesis 8:22  While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.   And the apostle Peter said this concerning the last days:   II Peter 3:1-7   This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:   2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:   3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,   4 And saying, Where is the promise of HIS coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.   5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:   6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:   7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.   At the end of the world, God HIMSELF, will shake the heaven and earth.   Isaiah 13:13  (God says)  Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of HIS fierce anger.   Matthew 24:29-31   Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:   30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.   31 And HE shall send HIS angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together HIS elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.   These things will be done by God, not by man.   *****   God keeps the heavens and the earth in place until the time HE destroys the heaven and earth by fire in the last days.   II Peter 3:10-14   But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.   11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,   12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?   13 Nevertheless we, according to HIS promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.   14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of HIM in peace, without spot, and blameless.   The powers of heaven will be shaken by God.  God ordered the solar system and God keeps everything in place for a time by HIS Word.  At the end, God destroys the heavens and earth by HIS Word.   Isaiah 34:4  And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.   Revelation 6:14   And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.   Only God the creator can cause these things to happen.   ***   Before God destroys the present heaven and earth, God removes HIS elect from this earth.   I Thessalonians 4:13-17   13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep (dead), that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.   14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him.   15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede/ go ahead of) them which are asleep.   16 For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:   17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.   ***   We will be taken to the new heaven and new earth which has been prepared by God for HIS people, for the elect of God.   Revelation 21:1-5   And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.   2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.   3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and HE will dwell with them, and they shall be HIS people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.   4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.   5 And HE that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.

(This podcast was previously published on May 6, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   I Corinthians 15:51-52   Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep (die), but we shall all be changed,  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.   When Jesus returns, some of the elect of God will still be alive on this present earth.   First, Jesus raises the dead in Christ.   Then those who are still alive on this earth will be changed instantly out of these current fleshly type bodies and will be given new spiritual bodies.  It will happen very fast, in the blink of an eye.   Blink. That is how fast it will happen.   Matthew 24:31   And HE shall send HIS angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together HIS elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.   In their new spiritual bodies, the elect of God will then be raised off this earth and will meet Jesus and the resurrected dead in Christ in the air and we will be taken to the new heavens and the new earth, the new Jerusalem, which is prepared for the elect of God by God.   Here are the scriptures telling us about this:   I Thessalonians 4:13-17   13  But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep (dead), that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.   14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him.   15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent (precede/go before) them which are asleep (dead).   16 For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:   17 Then we which are alive and remain (on this earth) shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.   18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.   We will then be taken by Jesus to the new heaven and new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness, that "new" Jerusalem which is prepared by God for us.   Revelation 21:1-5   1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. *****   Then God will destroy with fire this present heaven and earth after we have been taken into heaven to that new heaven and new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.   II Peter 3:10-14   10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. ***   So if we are born again and endure to the end, following the Holy Spirit as HE shows us something to do, we should be fine.   Jesus does warn us of the following:   Matthew 24  Jesus says:   12  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.   13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.   I believe we have to work daily, keeping our mind renewed and reinforced by scripture and by godly exhortations, such as the blog and Podcasts.   I have currently recorded over 400 Podcasts to exhort us in things of God.   ***   Hebrews 10:24-26   And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:   25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;   (This does not mean to attend one of the apostate churches, but rather it is the assembling "of ourselves together" ... and to me this would mean to gather with one or two persons who really have the Spirit of God and follows the Spirit of God ... and immerse yourselves in spiritual writings and Podcasts daily for things going on in this world and in the apostate church world will be very bad, worse and worse as time goes on.)   but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.   26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,   27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.   28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:   29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?   30 For we know HIM that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto ME, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge HIS people.   31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.   I believe we must work at our salvation, keeping ourselves, in ways that remind us of the ways of God upon this earth.

Many of the features of the earth's surface have been formed by the cutting and eroding action of moving water. When you think about how hard rock is compared to water, it's easy to believe that it must have taken hundreds of thousands or even millions of years for water to shape the land. This ignorance about how rapidly water cuts rock has cost people their lives. In April 1987, a 300-foot section of the 540-foot-long New York Thruway bridge collapsed into the Choharie Creek. The moving waters of the creek had created turbulence around the bridge's pilings. Within a few years, this turbulence cut away the rock in which the pilings were anchored, and with nothing to hold it up, the bridge collapsed. In June 1987, a section of the 2,800-foot-long Clearwater Pass Bridge in Florida dropped 10 inches. Divers sent down to inspect the bridge pilings found that more than 10 feet of rock had been scoured away from the bridge's pilings. Similar instances of moving water cutting away solid rock in a short period of time can be found around dams. When many of these structures were built, it was assumed that it took tens of thousands of years for water to erode solid rock. But experience has now shown us that water is able to do in a few years or even a few hours what scientists once thought took thousands or millions of years. Another lesson to be learned is that we don't need to claim that it took tens of thousands of years to form the water carved features of our earth!II Peter 2:4-5"For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgement; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly…"Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, help more people to see that Your Word is truth and that it has not been shown wrong by man's science. Make it increasingly difficult for people to ignore the Bible, which tells us of Your plan of salvation for us through Jesus Christ. Amen. Carefully Examining the Text

5:17 Behold, how happy is the man whom God reproves- Ps. 94:12; Prov. 3:11-12; 23:12, 23; Heb. 12:5-11; Rev. 3:19. How happy in 5:17 is the word translated blessed in Ps. 1:1.  5:18 For He inflicts pain, and gives relief- Deut. 32:39; I Sam. 2:6; Isa.19:22; 30:26; Hos. 6:1.  Job 1:21; 2:10 Each of the speakers understood the sovereignty of God in the affairs of the world.  He wounds, and His hands also heal- The friends never resort to Satan as the answer for human suffering.  5:19 From six troubles He will deliver you- The closest way to parallel a number is to give the next highest number.  Even in seven evil will not touch you- Ps. 91:10. This is a passage like Job 2:10 where the evil refers not to sin but to calamity. 5:20 In famine He will redeem you from death- Ps. 34:23; 49:8,16; 55:19; 69:19; 71:23; 119:134. The word redeem in Psalm 49:7, 7, 15. Ps. 49:15 and Ps. 103:4 speak of God redeeming the life, or soul, of the Psalmist from Sheol, the pit, or the grave. 5:21 You will hidden from the scourge of the tongue- For the tongue as a weapon- Ps. 52:2,4; 64:3. Vicious words can destroy the one they are spoken against, and undo the one who speaks them as well (Prov. 10:8, 14; 13:3; 18:7).Neither will you be afraid of violence when it comes- Ps. 91:5-6. God can protect His servants even in the midst of a severe judgment (II Peter 2:4-9).  5:22 You will laugh at famine and violence- The verb laugh is used in Ps. 2:4; 37:13; 59:8 to speak of God's reaction to the wrongdoer.Neither will you be afraid of the wild beasts- Lev. 26:4-5; Ps. 91:13; Ezek. 34:25; Hos. 2:18-20 5:23 For you will be in league with the stones of the field- Isa. 5:2; II Sam. 3:19-25 stones present difficulties for an otherwise fruitful field or vineyard.   5:24 You will know that your tent is secure- contrast this with 4:21. Compare this with 21:7. The word secure is actually the word peace which is used as a verb in 5:23.For you will visit your abode and fear no loss- Job lost his wealth in 1:13-17. Job will say that it is the children of the wicked that are safe and secure in Job 21:8-10.The word generally translated sin is used at the end of vs. 24. Sin is the idea of missing the mark (Judges 20:16) and the proper idea behind it is experiencing loss. 5:25 You will know also that your descendants will be many- These two lines are in stark contrast to 5:4-5. They are also contrary to Job's experiences as Job lost his children in 1:18-19. And your offspring as the grass of the earth- Isa. 53:10; Job 42:16; Ps. 37:16. This will ultimately be true of Job (42:13-15). 5:26 You will come to the grave in full vigor- Premature death is considered a great disaster (Job 22:16). Are the statements of Job 5:17-27 promising too much? Notice how many things said in Job 5:17-27 sound like Psalm 91 and other PsalmsJob 5:19 God will deliver him from all troubles; Ps. 34:19 Many are afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them allJob 5:19 evil will not touch you; Ps. 91:10 No evil will befall youJob 5:22, 23 not be afraid of wild beasts, beasts of field at peace; Ps. 91:13 tread upon lion, cobra, young lion, serpentJob 5:24 your tent is secure/ Ps. 91:10 no plague near your tentJob 5:26 long life Ps. 91:16

Scoffers will arise in the last days, following their own sinful desires and questioning the promise of Christ's return. They will deliberately ignore that God once judged the world through the great flood and that He will one day judge it again, this time by fire. Peter explains that the Lord is not slow in keeping His promise but is patient, giving time for all to come to repentance. The day of the Lord will come like a thief, without warning, and the natural creation will be destroyed. Therefore, believers are called to live holy and godly lives as they look forward to the eternal home of righteousness.  As we anticipate the return of Christ, we anchor our hope in His promise, knowing that His timing is perfect. Though the world may mock or ignore the truth, we trust that God is patient and merciful, allowing more people to turn to Him. This truth shapes how we live each day. We do not cling to the temporary things of this world because we know they will pass away. The natural world will be destroyed, but God is preparing a new heaven and a new earth filled with righteousness. We strive to live holy and peaceful lives, growing in grace and truth so that when He returns, we will be found faithful and ready to dwell with Him forever.  Creator God, thank You for Your patience and mercy in giving many the time to turn to You. Help us to live with holy hearts as we await the return of Christ. Teach us to seek the truth, grow in grace, and stand firm when others doubt Your promises. Remind us that this world is not our final home and that You are preparing a new heaven and a new earth for kingdom citizens. May we remain faithful and watchful, ready to meet You. Lead us to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.   Thought Questions: -       If someone is determined to pursue their own desires, how will this affect their perception of God and His promised day of judgment?   -       What truths about God, His judgment, and His return do so many people overlook? How do you stay ready for His coming? -       If everything physical will be destroyed when Christ returns, how should this impact the way you prioritize and live your daily life?

These individuals will secretly introduce destructive heresies and deny the Lord who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways, and as a result, the truth will be maligned. These teachers are driven by greed and exploit others with deceitful words. Peter assures believers that God knows how to judge the wicked and rescue the righteous. He reminds them of past judgments, such as the flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. These false teachers are bold, arrogant, and corrupted by their sinful desires. They promise freedom but are themselves enslaved by sin. Peter exclaims it would have been better for them never to have known the truth than to malign it so sinfully.   We must remain alert and grounded in the truth of God's Word because false teachers still exist and can lead many astray. Their words may sound convincing, but their hearts are filled with pride and greed. We are called to test what we hear against Scripture and stay committed to sound teaching. We cannot follow the crowd or be swayed by messages that distort the truth. God is just and will judge those who corrupt His Word, but He also knows how to protect those who remain faithful. We must hold tightly to what is right, turn away from sinful desires, and live in a way that honors Christ. Our freedom is in Him, and we must never forsake our Savior.   Righteous Lord, guard our hearts against deception and help us stay anchored in Your truth. Grant us wisdom to recognize false teachings and courage to stand firm in what is right. Protect us from those who twist Your Word for their personal gain. Strengthen our faith so that we do not follow destructive paths but remain loyal to You. Assist us in seeking purity in our thoughts, actions, and desires. Lead us by Your Spirit so we may walk in truth and reflect Your holiness. Thank You for being just and for rescuing those who remain faithful to Your righteous way.   Thought Questions: -       How can you identify someone as a false teacher? Explain how it is about much more than just the accuracy of the message. -       What do the stories of Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Lot teach you about the power and sovereignty of the almighty God? -       Is it possible to be entangled in the world and lost after being saved through Jesus? Why is that worse than never having obeyed at all?

The Bible is God's message, God's word (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21). However, in the Bible there are speakers that say things that are incorrect or particularly designed to deceive. For example, the words of the serpent, the devil in Gen. 3:4-5; Matt. 4:1-11. The words of false prophets are recorded in I Kings 22:9-12 or Jer. 28:1-4 and false accusations against John and Jesus are recorded in Matt. 11:18-19 and Luke 7:33-34. When the Bible reports something happening it is true but there are those in its pages who do not speak on God's behalf.  Job is the most difficult book of the Bible to determine whether the spokesman is from God or not. In the epilogue the LORD says that Eliphaz and his two friends have not spoken of Him what is right (Job 42:7). The LORD plainly says it, these men do not speak for Him. Does that mean that everything they say is wrong? In Job 5:13 Eliphaz says, “He captures the wise by their shrewdness.” Paul quotes these words in I Cor. 3:19 and introduces them with “For it is written.” The only time that Job is specifically quoted in the New Testament it is the words of Eliphaz. Obviously, not everything that Eliphaz and his friends said was wrong. On the other hand, Job was said to speak of God what was right in Job 42:7. While Job spoke what was right, does that mean that all he spoke was correct? The LORD said that Job, “Who is this who darkens counsel with words without knowledge?” (Job 38:2) and Job repeats these words confessing his sin of speaking of the things “which I did not understand” in 42:3. After this confession, he retracts and repents in 42:6. Clearly, Job says things that are not right. Also, how do we take the words of Elihu? Elihu is not mentioned at all by God at the end of the book. Does that mean that he said nothing different from the friends or does it mean that God approves of his words? The question is how do we know what the various speakers say that is from God and what is not? These factors make Job an extremely difficult book.

If you are interested in the Daily Bible Devotional, you can find it at the links below:Amazon - (paperback, hardcover, and Kindle)YouTube Video Introducing the ContentFeel free to reach out with any questions: emersonk78@me.comII Peter 1 Peter begins by reminding believers that they have received a precious faith through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. He assures them that God has provided everything necessary for life and godliness through knowing the Lord. Because of this, Peter urges them to grow in character by cultivating their faith with goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. These qualities enable believers to live effective and fruitful lives. He encourages them to confirm their calling by practicing these virtues. Peter explains that he will continue to remind them of these truths for as long as he lives. He insists that the message of Jesus is not a myth but is grounded in eyewitness accounts and the Holy Spirit's work, which shines like a light in a dark world.  We have everything we need to live a godly life through our knowledge of Jesus, given by His apostles and prophets. This inspires us to grow each day in our faith. We are not meant to remain unchanged. We are called to enhance our faith with crucial character traits that mirror our Savior. These qualities support us in staying strong, effective, and focused in our walk with Christ. As we develop in these areas, we affirm that our faith is genuine and vibrant. We are reminded that our faith is not founded on myths but on the true and powerful testimony of Jesus. We cling firmly to the Spirit's revelation, allowing it to guide us like a light in the darkness.  Benevolent Father, thank You for providing us with everything we need for life and godliness through Your Son. Help us grow in our faith daily by pursuing the qualities of Jesus and the Spirit's fruit in their honor. Strengthen us when we are weak and guide us when we feel lost. Help us hold firmly to the truth of Your Word, attentive to the inspired words of the prophets. Keep us from being unfruitful, and lead us to live lives that reflect Your light. May our hearts remain anchored in the promises You have given, full of purpose and hope. Thought Questions: -       What are the “precious and magnificent promises” that draw you to engage in a fervent and ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ? -       How do you increase in qualities like moral excellence, knowledge, and self-control? Why is it important to be growing in them? -       What makes men like Peter dependable writers for the cause of Christ? How do you prioritize attentively engaging with the word daily?

Introduction to the book of Job

Carefully Examining the Text

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 19, 2025 21:49

“Unless clearly indicated otherwise, I assume that the Hebrew Bible speaks of real people and places. Nothing in the text suggests that Job was a mythical, imaginary, or fictious figure" (Alden, 26). The fact that Elihu is given a genealogy in Job 32:2 and his daughter's names are given at the end of the book in Job 42:13-15 points to the historical nature of the book. The fact that we view the Biblical portrayals of characters as historically true seems to be how Jesus and the inspired New Testament writers looked at things. Notice how the New Testament refers to Creation (Matt. 19:3-6; Mk. 10:6-9), Adam and Eve (II Cor. 11:3; I Tim. 2:11-14; Jude 14), Cain and Abel (Matt. 23:35; Lk. 11:51; Heb. 11:4; I John 3:12-13; Jude 11), Enoch (Heb. 11:5; Jude 14), Noah and the flood (Matt. 24:37-39; Lk. 17:26-27; Heb. 11:7; I Peter 3:20-21; II Peter 2:5, 9). Abraham is mentioned 73 times in the New Testament. Abraham's genealogy is given in Matt. 1:1-17; Lk. 3:23-38. In Rom. 4:9-12 Paul makes a point on the chronological order of his life. It seems obvious that Abraham is viewed as a real character and the things he did were actual historical events (Heb. 11:8-19; James 2:21-23). Lot is mentioned in Luke 17:28, 29, 32 and II Peter 2:7 and his wife is mentioned in Luke 17:32. Isaac is mentioned 20 times and Jacob 27 times in the New Testament. Joseph and his experiences are treated as historical in Acts 7:9-16 and Heb. 11:21-22. Moses is mentioned 80 in the New Testament. Jonah is referred to by Jesus in Matt. 12:39, 40, 41, 41; 16:4; Luke 11:29, 30, 32, 32. In these passages the events of Jonah and the great fish foreshadow the yet future (when this was spoken) resurrection of Jesus, the most important historical event in human history.  Job is mentioned outside the book of Job in the Old Testament in Ezek. 14:14, 20 and in the New Testament in James 5:11. How should we view those two passages and their evidence in light of whether Job is historical? In context Ezek. 14:12-23 is stressing the four severe judgments the LORD was going to send against Judah. The four judgements are sword, famine, wild beast, and plagues (Ezek. 14:13, 15, 17, 19, 21).  Ezek. 14:14, 20 specifically mentions Noah, Daniel, and Job and states they could only deliver themselves by their righteousness if they lived in the midst of the people. In Ezek. 14:16, 18 makes allusions to these men again by saying “even though these three men were in its midst.”  The most natural explanation was that these men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were actual historical characters who were being used by the prophet to the people to stress that even they could not deliver the people from the coming judgment.  Did Jesus and the New Testament writers view Noah as an actual historical character? Jesus exhorted His audience to always be prepared for the Lord to come in judgment. He used the “days of Noah” as an illustration of those who were carrying on with life as normal and were unprepared for the judgment of God (Matt. 24:37-39; Luke 17:26-27). Jesus said, “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Jonah” (Matt. 24:37). Was Jesus using a fictional event to inspire people to prepare themselves for an actual coming judgment? The author of Hebrews used Noah's example of building an ark in reverence to God to inspire His listeners to endurance (Heb. 11:7). Peter used the example of Noah as a picture of how “baptism now save you” (I Peter 3:20-21) and to illustrated how the LORD can rescue the godly while at the same time preparing the ungodly for judgment day (II Peter 2:5, 9).
