The heartwarming story of a homeless veteran, Johnny Bobbitt, who spends his last $20 to help a stranded woman captures national media attention when the woman and her boyfriend start a GoFundMe campaign to help him get on his feet. Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico raise more than $400,000 in just a few weeks. However, when things don't seem to add up, investigators quickly learn this story is all based on a lie.
After High School we all go our seperate ways. Some of us go to college, some go to the military, and in some cases a few of us make up a barely believable story so thousands of people donate money in the hopes of helping a homeless man with a heart of gold who didn't actually do what people believe he did.Back in 2017 the world was introduced to the story of Katie McClure, her boyfriend Mark D'Amico, and said homeless man, our boy Johnny Bobbitt Jr. Bobbitt gave Katie his last $20 for gas when he saw that she was stranded on the side of I-95. It didn't take long for the scheme to unravel, but not after the trio made away with $400k in GoFundMe donations. Once the truth was out the world was shocked. Not as shocked as Nanner and I, because we went to High School with Katie McClure. Hear what we think of our former classmates shady plot and how the Fritz Boyz would have dealt with old Johnny Bobbitt (aka The Weak Link).
During the holiday season of 2017, Mark D'Amico and Kate McClure started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help homeless veteran Johnny Bobbitt. The campaign went viral and captured the hearts of 14,000 people worldwide. Together they raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help Johnny, but when a team of journalists and authorities took a closer look, they discovered a GoFundMe Holiday Heist.
as we hit episode 129, I'll share a little personal note that sometimes I am asked what exactly is it I hope to accomplish with this program. To which I can only reply, would you ask Marshall Applewhite (or his QB son Major) what they hoped to accomplish? Would you ask Marie Curie (or her daughter Cherie) what they hoped to accomplish? Maybe the full measure of this show's importance cannot be fully grasped until some day in the future while I'm being devoured by bugs.
8 shootings in the last 24 hours within Philadelphia and how it compares to Uvalde. Dawn takes your calls again about school safety and the media bias on reporting shootings. Later, Dawn returns taking your calls bout gun control and school safety and what steps can be done to address it. We also discuss mental health. Breaking news, Kevin Spacey is being charged with multiple counts of sexual assault. We return to program talking about the salmonella outbreak and subsequent recall in our peanut butter. Then she touches on what it feels like to graduate your child from high school and the beauty of seeing them grow up. Finally she touches on a burning barge on the Delaware River, Phil Murphy demanding a handing in of guns; and she teases the show tomorrow down in Cape May. However, there is a lifeguard shortage down the shore. It is possible parts of the beach will be closed. And we end the show with an update on The Johnny Bobbitt case. You don't want to miss it.

Chapter 1
Remember the story of homeless veteran Johnny Bobbit, who gave gave him last $20.00 to Kate McClure and her boyfriend, Mark D'Amico, after they ran out of gas. If not, let us refresh your memory. Since that story came out, a lot of drama unfolded in the press. Bobbitt originally filed a lawsuit against McClure and D'Amico for withholding the over $400 thousand that was raised in the GoFundMe. However, there was a SHOCKING TWIST today. Johnny Bobbitt, a homeless veteran in 2017, as well as Kate McClure and her boyfriend Mark D'Amico, have been charged with theft by deception and conspiracy to commit theft by deception in connection with a GoFundMe scheme that police say fraudulently raised the money on GoFundMe, according to a news release from the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. Listen to this report from ABC News… A New Jersey prosecutor announced today that the story that launched a GoFundMe campaign that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for a homeless man was all a hoax. The prosecutor said that they have spoken with GoFundMe, and they will be refunding ALL of the money that was donated.
Sometime ago a young woman travelling alone sat stranded in her car on I-95 in route to Philadelphia, PA. A nearby homeless man, Johnny Bobbitt, sensing her distress came to her aid. Johnny Bobbitt told her to remain in her car and keep the doors locked. Moments later he returned with a red container filled with gasoline which he purchased with his last twenty dollars. To show her gratitude, Katelyn McClure, the young woman who was stranded, and her boyfriend, Mark D'Amico, started a GoFundMe hoping to raise $10,000 to help Bobbitt get back on his feet. In less than a month, the GoFundMe account raised nearly $400,000. At that point, this was a Rags to Riches feel good story. But what took place afterwards leaves one puzzled as to how these good intentions can yield so much trouble. Listen in to find out about the trouble in this story and to hear the insight and answers to this entire situation through The Holy Scriptures. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gofundme-for-homeless-man-couple-accused-of-stealing-funds-highlights-risks-of-crowdfunding/ https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/gofundme-says-johnny-bobbitt-jr-will-get-all-400-000-n907401
