“I had a client in the practice that they, well, what they said is, ‘I am disabled because of mental health and PTSD symptoms, and music therapy's helping me work through many issues very directly in a way that years of talk therapy hasn't been able to touch.' For this individual, they had been through years of talk therapy, and for some people, that is very valuable and very helpful, myself included. But like myself, I had to start with music therapy first because it just accesses the brain in a different way. It accesses the body in a different way than just talking.” – Noel Anderson This week's guest is the founder of Anderson Music Therapy Services and has been a board-certified music therapist for over fifteen years. Her journey started with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Immaculata University, followed by a clinical internship at the Kardon Institute for Arts Therapy in Philadelphia. Driven by a desire for growth, she pursued specialized training, earning certification in Neurologic Music Therapy at Colorado State University, certification as a Trauma Professional, and a Master of Music Therapy degree from Temple University. Before founding her practice in Roanoke, Virginia, she developed a school-based music therapy program for individuals of all ages and abilities. Her love of music began early – she's been performing since the age of ten through voice, guitar, piano, and flute – and her impact extends globally, benefiting communities in Africa and India. Her name is Noel Anderson and I've been looking forward to chatting with her about all the ways we can harness the power of sound to motivate us, to help us heal and to improve our lives. Both those things really help – and I'd love to feature your review on future podcasts. (0:00:00) - The Power of Music TherapyWe start things off with Noel's early memories of sound, from the tiger song she wrote before she'd even learned to spell to her discovery in college of how music therapy could help others. “I didn't always have a very easy time identifying my emotions or being able to express my emotions,” she recalls. “I was very shy. So music just was how I would express myself.” She tells us more about the board certification process that becoming a licensed music therapist involves, and about her work helping children in Africa and India. “I spoke of how music works with developmental disabilities and neurologically,” she explains, “and then we were able to work, you know, hands-on with the kids and co-treat with the therapists there and the doctors, and it was a really great experience.”(0:07:27) - Global Impact of Music TherapyOur conversation turns to the neurological impact of music, and its ability to influence and even redirect our body states. “It's one of the few things in the world that activates so many [neurons],” Noel explains. “It exercises the whole brain, and that's why it can get our attention very easily rather than just speaking alone.” She talks more about how sound can help regulate the nervous system and shares...

In this two-part series, I talk to Amber Lynne Connell, an expert in adolescent psychology about gender and sexual identity. Here, in part one we unravel the intricacies of gender and sexual identity among teenagers. Who knew that our gender identity begins forming as early as five years old? Or that biological sex extends far beyond the traditional XX and XY to a spectrum of 27 different possible variants? This episode is ripe with revelations about how societal norms begin to influence our identities even before we're born.Ever wondered about the difference between biological sex and gender identity? Brace yourself as we debunk misconceptions and illuminate the truth in a comprehensive discussion differentiating the two. We'll explore how Gen Z and younger generations are shattering conventions, fostering open dialogues about gender and sexual identity. Let's navigate through terms like non-binary, gender fluid, and agender, and understand how we can bolster support for those on their self-discovery journey. As we move towards the end, we discuss the monumental importance of affirming our children's pronouns and names, potentially providing a lifeline for queer and trans teens. We'll share tips on navigating these changes as a parent. Finally, we spotlight resources available for parents, like the PFLAG organization, spotlighting the pivotal role a supportive community can play. Tune in and join our endeavor to create a more inclusive, understanding world for the sake of our future generations.Bio:Amber Lynn Connell is a licensed professional counselor with over 15 years experience working in various mental health settings. Today's podcast features Jason Feairheller (fare-heller).  Jason is the Co-Owner and strength coach at Function and Strength in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, and has been training athletes since 2007.   He is the host of the Speed and Power podcast and has lectured on strength and conditioning as an adjunct professor at Immaculata University.  Jason has a passion for speed and athletic movement training and is a sought-after speaker on the topic of multi-directional athleticism.  He has developed the course “Improving Game Speed Through Multi-Dimensional Plyometrics”. Humans are complex and so is in-game movement.  One topic that I've considered ever since the start of this podcast was the idea of actually coaching change of direction and sport-speed techniques, versus decision-making being the priority, and then letting game-play dictate how athletes choose to technically move in space. Jason's passion has been all forms of speed and movement in athletes, and on this podcast, he goes into the fundamental principles of change of direction versus agility (perception) training, and how each method works into his athletic performance programming.  Jason will also get into his use of plyometrics, and methods that quantitatively measure change of direction outputs, his take on deceleration training mistakes and misconceptions, agility games, and much more. Timestamps and Main Points 3:06 – What brought Jason into the game speed space as a primary focus of his training 8:49 –  Jason's thoughts on the place of change of direction training, compared to agility/perception work 16:36 – How the interplay between planned/rehearsed change of direction, and live agility occurs in a training session 31:45 – How Jason looks to quantitatively measure improvements in change of direction ability 41:11 – Considering “deceleration” training in light of having athletes fully stop, vs. redirecting speed 49:08 – Perception/Reaction and game-oriented work Jason uses for his athletes 51:51 – What Jason's session looks like in terms of warmup, speed/COD training, games, and strength breakdown 53:21 – Jason's favorite simple COD games he uses in his training 57:12 – Plyometric training concepts, particularly on the level of small hops, leading into larger ones Jason Feairheller Quotes “What makes an athlete really good at (speed in training), it was the ability to link one movement into another” “When I do change of direction training, every single speed drill I do with someone is an assessment” “Ultimately, people need to redirect force, and then get the other foot down quickly” “For the most part, I don't do a drill for more than 2 to 3 reps without changing it in some capacity” “If I have my feet close together; and I put my feet out to the side, and back, and do a straddle jump like that; what I'm looking at is, how far can an athlete actually get their feet to the isde, and what is that shin angle, where their head doesn't go up or down; and that distance is close to what they would actually have on the field” “A 5-10-15 tells me how well someone can decelerate when speed is higher” “I watch a lot of video from all different sports, and try to relate change of direction work to some sport scenario in my head” “We have these rubber mats that are 2-3 feet wide, and we have max reps (pogo jumps) over the rubber (you can't touch the rubber) for 8 seconds; a lot of jumps people track are vertical in nature; but a lot of what happens on the field is horizontal” ...

In September of 2000, history professor Dr. William "Bill" Watson of Immaculata University stopped by the campus for a break with friend and fellow bagpipe musician Tom Connor during a long drive back from a performance.  While there, around 10:00 p.m. near the typically deserted faculty center lawn, both men witnessed a strange apparition that would later lead to a remarkable and meaningful coincidence.  Two years after this experience, Bill's twin brother, Reverend Dr. Frank Watson, by chance, came across a file once kept by their grandfather Joseph Tripician, a former secretary to the president of the Pennsylvania Railroad in the 1970s.  One official record in this file documented a tragedy connected to a ghost story their grandfather told annually at Thanksgiving dinner.  The report outlined a mass death of workers on an arduous stretch of the then Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad in the summer and fall of 1832.  Contractor Phillip Duffy had hired 57 Irish immigrants to lay the tracks for roughly a mile through thickset trees and over a deep ravine about 20 miles west of Philadelphia.  39 newly arrived immigrants, one of them a woman, and 18 others already working there would all be dead within ninety days of their hire.  Irish Catholic immigrants were often viewed with prejudice as unseemly and unwelcome intruders by established society and expendable workers by the railroad and mining companies profiting from their cheap and desperate labor.  When the second global cholera pandemic reached this work camp, the record suggested that all 57 had succumbed to the deadly disease.  Compelled by the discovery of this document, in August 2004, Bill and Frank Watson, along with two university associates, led an archaeological excavation to find the accurate burial site for these victims.  On March 24, 2009, it was announced that the first human remains had been found.  However, a curious twist was discovered by noted physical and forensic anthropologist Janet Monge, who analyzed the bones.  Her examination revealed that at least two of the skulls found first likely received perimortem blunt-force trauma and gunshot wounds.  This conclusion leads to the prominent theory that workers were either killed out of fear they would spread the contagion, to quell a rebellion or both.  Please join us for part one of a story that yearns to be told, the Massacre at Duffy's Cut. Joy shares her story of how she found herself transitioning from a career as a teacher to becoming a registered dietitian and how she's incorporated her educational background and skills into working with her clients in her practice.Joy shares her knowledge and experience on various topics like how our family can influence our diet habits, tips for healthy snacking including her unique and wonderful approach of “snobby snacking”, rethinking what our culture considers “good” vs “bad” foods and how to navigate the overwhelming number of options available to us, and provides us with her thoughts on why diet culture fails to provide long lasting results.Joy also dives into topics including the information she gathers when she begins working with her clients, the importance of proper hydration, signs and symptoms of dehydration, tips for building better habits to overcome chronic dehydration, and the role of hydration as it relates to things like chronic fatigue, cravings, and an overall sense of well-being. There are certain individuals in this world who draw people and opportunities to them through some combination of attributes that include likeability, trustworthiness, community-mindedness, and an aptitude for leadership. TJ Ciccone, currently Vice President of Critical Operations for STACK Infrastructure, is one of these individuals. In this #NomadFuturist podcast, he shares with Phil and Nabeel a career trajectory that includes a five-year stint in the Navy as a nuclear engineer and ten years in retail starting with the overnight shift at Crown Petroleum and moving on to roles at Wawa and Target, prior to finding the data center industry. While at Wawa, Ciccone put himself through college. One of his regular customers was a District Manager for Target who wooed him away from Wawa. Ciccone eventually decided to get out of retail. He studied for the LSAT exam and won a scholarship to law school at Widener. Yet something unexpected happened.  “I was on my way to Widener and while I'm driving there, I got a phone call from my buddy Chris who was the Regional Manager for the Northeast for Digital Realty at the time. And he said, ‘Hey, how would you like to work in a data center?'” Ciccone fell in love with the data center industry. He started out as an engineering technician and had the good fortune to work for a great boss who he followed to three different facilities during the first seven years of his career. He then got the opportunity to move up to a director role at Coresite and ultimately was recruited by STACK Infrastructure. Ciccone emphasizes the importance of personal relationships. “People say it's all about who you know, but I like to say, it's all about who knows you.” Meanwhile Ciccone has now become a mentor to many.  “All of my best friends right now work in the data center industry. And a lot of them have even followed me from job to job.” He ascribes his success in the data center world to a combination of HR skills as well as the ability to develop a Method of Procedure (MOP) and execute it in the field.  Ciccone also teaches a data center program at Northern Virginia Community College. He shares how satisfying it is to see the impact that the course is having on the lives of students from diverse backgrounds. “In the first three and a half years of the program, we had approximately 45 students and close to 90% of them are working in the data center field right now!” He talks about the importance of leadership:   “Good leaders make such a big difference on a team. I am a firm believer that leaders are made, not born.” Given the dramatic growth in demand for critical infrastructure and the issue of so many resources “aging out,” Ciccone highlights the urgent need to bring more people into the data center industry and expresses his enthusiasm and commitment to opening opportunities for the next generation. His advice: “As you're looking for next opportunities, if you're good enough, especially in this industry, the opportunities will find you. You're going to build up your reputation and brand.”   TJ Ciccone is the Vice President of Critical Operations for STACK Infrastructure. Ciccone has over 12 years of data center management experience and a combined 18 years of involvement with critical facilities. Ciccone is also an adjunct professor for Northern Virginia Community College where he teaches the Introduction to Data Center Operations course.   From 1994 to 1999, Ciccone was enlisted in the US Navy where he qualified senior-in-rate, Chief Mechanical Operator, while serving onboard the USS Enterprise where he was responsible for the daily mechanical operations of the nuclear power plant. Ciccone successfully graduated Magna Cum Laude from Immaculata University in 2008 with a B.A. in Organizational Dynamics with an emphasis in Business Management.

SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSMAN. INDEPENDENT LEADER. STRONG REPUBLICAN.Jim White is a husband, father, coach, small businessman and taxpayer with a 25-year career building businesses and protecting companies from cyberattacks.  A lifelong Republican, Jim was taught to work hard at an early age – owning a grass cutting business, working at gas stations, doing construction and pool cleaning work all through high school. Now he’s focused on giving back to the community where he and his wife have lived, worked and raised their daughters for the last 14 years. With a promise to bring his tireless work ethic to township government, Jim vows to help control local spending to hold the line on taxes while providing the services that make Upper Providence one of the best places to live in the entire region.  Service to our community is not new for Jim.  Jim has been an active coach and mentor to our youth for more than half a decade, serving as an Upper Providence Little League tee ball and softball coach as well as a Spring Ford Youth basketball coach. Public service runs through Jim’s blood – his great uncle served as a Member of Congress from Pennsylvania, his grandfather was a Philadelphia police officer while his mom was a nurse and his father worked at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Warminster for 30 years.  Jim has also served the Republican Party as an elected Upper Providence Committeeman, was an Executive Committee member of the Montgomery County Republican Committee and traveled to Cleveland as an Alternate Delegate to the Republican National Committee in 2016. Jim currently serves the UP Board of Supervisors as the Vacancy Board Chairman.  Working his way through college, Jim built a life as he finished his education, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2006 from Immaculata University and taking MBA classes at Delaware Valley University to continue his pursuit of higher education. Jim knows good schools are critical to our success as a township – and region – but also know we must control taxes at every level so funding our future doesn’t cripple retirees and working families with high taxes today. Jim will use his businesses and professional skills to find that balance in local government.Jim and his wife of nearly 20 years, Tracey, own a home in Phoenixville. Together, they also operate several successful business ventures, including a security company that focuses on emerging industries as well as rental properties they own and manage. Jim and Tracey have raised their daughters in Upper Providence – with their oldest attending Aim Academy in Conshohocken and their youngest in 6th grade at Spring Ford Middle School. Their five-year-old Westie, Lilly, is the fifth member of their family. An independent leader committed to making government more open, more transparent, and more responsive for the people it serves, Jim will be a champion for all Upper Providence residents in elected office. Called to serve his community, Jim is running for Supervisor to work for those who work hard every day.  A CITIZEN, TAXPAYER & FISCAL EXPERT READY TO PUT TAXPAYERS FIRSTTom Yeager is not a career politician – he’s one of us: a local businessman, father, husband, and coach. Tom is ready to serve and bring our Republican principles of fiscal conservatism to township government to protect taxpayers and focus on real priorities that make our community even better. The son of a hardworking engineer and a stay-at-home mom, Tom learned early the value of hard work - and then used what he learned to succeed in life.Working and paying his way through college, Tom earned a degree in Business Logistics from Penn State University. He then continued to hard work toward success in the business world, rising today to the position of Vice President of Supply Chain and Customer Service at a Fortune 500 company where he oversees a budget of $300 million. His proven skills at fiscal oversight and increasing efficiency will help taxpayers here in Upper Providence as he ensures township government works effectively for residents by delivering high quality services at the best possible cost.  In addition to his work at St. Gobain, Tom sits as a member of two companies’ Executive Management teams helping them to control costs, meet positive outcomes for employees and customers, and demand accountability and transparency – the same goals he will meet as our next Supervisor.  Tom is also committed to a stronger future for Upper Providence as only a dad can be – ready to fight hard to improve the opportunities we leave for the next generation. Tom and his wife, Christina, have been married for 10 years and are raising their blended family together as proud parents of Christina’s three children and their 9-year-old twins, all of whom attend Spring Ford schools.  The Yeagers are family members of Rivercrest Golf Club where they are avid golfers and active members. In fact, they’re very much like so many families in our area – enjoying movie nights, dinners and family vacations throughout the year as time and money allow.  For more information on how to support Jim and Tom, please visit www.whiteyeagerupt.com.

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 28, 2020 44:07

In this episode, Alison explains what it is like to run a group practice, like a boss! Alison is into tracking data; she likes to make her decisions based on numbers. You'll hear loads of tips about having a group practice. For instance, don't wait to delegate for when you're stressed out and on the verge of burn out – it's probably time to delegate today! Stay tuned as Alison explains how she finds the best clinicians for her practice, the ways that she compensates her staff, and why she utilizes an employee model rather than an independent contractor model. Meet Alison Pidgeon Alison Pidgeon, MA, LPC is the Founder and CEO of Move Forward Counseling LLC. What started out as a solo private practice in early 2015 quickly grew into a group practice and has been expanding ever since. Alison has been working in the mental health field since 2003. She graduated from Immaculata University with a master's degree in counseling psychology in 2007. She earned her license as a professional counselor (LPC) in 2009. Her time spent working in community mental health helped to shape her as a leader and made her aware of the problems which exist in the mental health system. Taking what she learned from the traditional model of mental health care, Alison set out to create something different when she started her private practice. Her attention to detail to the whole client experience and treating her staff exceptionally well have created a reputation of excellence that is recognized by the community. Learn How To Delegate Practice owners get caught in the trap of bootstrapping everything like answering the phone and cleaning the office. Why? Because they want to save money. However, you are putting a hard cap on how large you can grow your business. There's a way to make sure you're hiring trustworthy people who will do good work and be reliable. It's possible to delegate sooner than you need to. People wait too long to start delegating. Don't wait until your drowning at work. Find Good Clinicians When starting a group practice, it's essential to find the best clinicians. However, whenever clinicians wanted to join Alison, they said they couldn't because they needed health insurance. That's why Alison decided to switch from an independent contracting model to an employee model. That way, Alison can offer her employees the opportunity to have health insurance. This has been a total game-changer for Alison. Her turnover rate is a lot lower. Plus, she gets so many more applications with the employee model. Moving Toward Group Practice Look at your systems. This will have to change when you hire people. Most likely, your systems will only work for a private practice rather than group practice. For instance, you may need multiple phone extensions. Plus, you'll need to change up your website. Change your wording from “I” to “we.” Also, think about whether or not you want to be a boss. Managing people is a significant aspect of group practice. If that sounds terrible, then group practice may not be right for you. Think long and hard about what you love to do. Determining Fit It would help if you were clear about your mission, vision, and values. Your values will speak a lot about the culture of your practice. You can even print these things out and have your potential clinicians look it over. The clearer you are about what you want will help you attract the right people and repel the wrong people. Having a problem employee is a nightmare and not worth the stress. That's why Alison is picky about who she hires. Alison wants her clinicians to be organized, timely, and self-sufficient. If a clinician isn't organized enough to manage themselves, it will not be a good fit. Also, Alison values boundaries – you can't teach good judgment. So Alison wants to know if her potential clinicians have good boundaries with their clients. Recruiting Alison uses Indeed.com, plus she has an employment page on her website. She gets quite a few resumes through that as well. Therapists talk to each other. So one therapist will tell their friends. That's why Alison likes to have an employment page on her website so that people can reach out to her directly. Compensation Alison says that compensation will depend on the laws in your state. In Pennsylvania, there's not a lot of options. Alison pays her therapists more to see a client and less for administrative work. She doesn't go the salaried route because your therapists will get paid the same amount no matter how many clients they have. At a minimum, they have to do twenty-five hours a week. If they want more, then they can earn a bonus. However, they don't need to work forty hours a week if they don't want to. Biography from gobroncs.com: Ben Kay joined the Rider Men's Basketball coaching staff as Director of Player Development in July 2018. He was promoted to Director of Basketball Operations for the 2019-20 season. Kay spent 2017-18 as Head Coach at Penn State Brandywine, leading the Lions to one of the top seasons in program history. During the 2017-18 campaign, Kay led Brandywine to its first-ever conference championship after reaching the title game for the first time since 1991, as well as an appearance at the USCAA Tournament. Kay was named Sam Cozen Small College Coach of the Year after leading the Lions to more than 20 games for the first time in 12 years. The Lions became the first men's team from Brandywine to win a national tournament game when they knocked off NHTI, reaching the national semifinals. Brandywine led the conference in points scored (86) and turnovers forced (23). Under Kay's tutelage, three players garnered USCAA All-American awards. Kay's first season began with a regular-season game at the Palestra against Penn, Brandywine's first-ever against an NCAA Division I opponent. Overall, the Lions posted a 21-8 record, finishing second in the PSUAC during the regular season before ousting Penn State Wilkes Barre in the conference championship game. Kay joined the Brandywine athletic staff after two successful seasons as an assistant men's basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at West Chester University. During his first season at West Chester, Kay helped guide the Golden Rams to a top-25 ranking and the best record in program history as West Chester reached the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament championship and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Included among his duties at West Chester was scouting opponents, game planning both offensive and defensive strategies, running team and individual film sessions as well as fundraising. Kay was also the lead recruiter for the team, scouting high school and AAU games and working with coaches to recruit some of the most talented student-athletes in the mid-Atlantic region. While at West Chester, Kay began a mentoring program for the men's basketball team, matching student-athletes with basketball alumni and business professionals. The goal of the mentoring program was to build relationships, while also teaching student-athletes professional skills and lessons necessary for a successful career outside of basketball following graduation. Kay also co-directed West Chester's summer day camps and skills camps, which were some of the largest of their kind on the east coast, while also co-directing a team camp and high school league during the summer, annually featuring 30 teams from the Greater Philadelphia the area. In 2012, Kay co-founded the Treasure Beach Jamaican Youth Basketball Camp and still serves as the camp director, currently. At the camp, which serves underprivileged youth in Jamaica, teaching basketball skills and teamwork, Kay oversees 25 counselors and over 400 campers annually during the week-long event. He also manages the finances for the camp, which has fundraised $50,000. Prior to his time at West Chester, Kay served as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Immaculata University men's basketball team. At Immaculata, he led recruiting in the tri-state area, while also aiding in all aspects of player development, game day preparation and opponent scouting. Kay began his coaching career as an undergraduate student at Drexel University where he was a practice player and student assistant coach for the Dragons' women's basketball team for four seasons. A 2012 graduate of Drexel, Kay earned his bachelor's degree in business and marketing. He's also earned his master's degree in public administration and sports management at West Chester University. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/athleteevolved/support

We then delve into Stein's work found in the collection, Essays on Woman. As you'll hear, Sister finds great richness in Stein's teaching on the human person's “ontic core,” that sphere of personal life that is completely private to the person and God alone. This core of the person unfolds and develops over the circumstances of life and the choices made by the person throughout a lifetime. Over the course of the interview, Sister emphasizes Stein's lifelong pursuit of truth--Truth, even--and how this aided Stein as she shaped her life into one of great integrity. Related Links:John Paul II's Apostolic Letter proclaiming Ss. Do you have a son that is not sporty? How does that affect him? Does he feel left out? Check out this wonderful podcast with acclaimed author and psychologist Dr. Janet Sasson Edgette!  After reading her book, The Last Boys Picked, I wanted to talk more with Janet about this important topic of bullying, sports and boys. Janet Sasson Edgette is a clinical psychologist with 30 years of experience offering evaluation, counseling, and psychotherapy to children, preteens, teenagers, young adults, and their parents. She has spent her career thinking about how to provide services to kids and teenagers that they actually value and respect, and therefore want to participate in, eliminating the miserable and degrading tug of war and other power struggles that many clinicians endure when working with this population. Janet has served on faculty at Delaware Valley University, Immaculata University, and Villanova University in their graduate psychology and counseling programs and has conducted training workshops throughout the U.S. and Canada, and abroad. Besides speaking to professional audiences, Janet often speaks to groups of parents about how they can stay connected to their kids as they enter adolescence and become young adults. Respect and accountability are cornerstone values in both her therapy and parenting approaches. Janet has written six books and dozens of articles in the areas of parenting, counseling, boys, masculinity and gender norms, and sport psychology. They include the popular parenting paperback, Stop Negotiating with Your Teen: Strategies for Parenting Your Angry, Manipulative, Moody, or Depressed Adolescent, and a critically acclaimed book for mental health professionals entitled, Adolescent Therapy That Works: Helping Kids Who Never Asked for Help in the First Place. Her most recent book, The Last Boys Picked: Helping Boys Who Don’t Play Sports Survive Bullies and Boyhood, has been labeled by Parent magazine a “must read.” To learn more about Janet, visit her website here! January 10, 2018 I've been looking forward to this interview for a long-time, one of the most inspiring teachers I ever had, drumset player and percussionist extraordinaire Mr. Ray Deeley!  I was very fortunate to take private drumset and percussion lessons with Ray while a high school student ('85-'89).  Ray taught at numerous Catholic high schools through-out the Philadelphia area, and coincidentally one of his students at another school was Heather High, who I would later meet in the percussion ensemble at West Chester University, which eventually led to our marriage, four great children and a wonderful life. After attending Mastbaum Vocational High School in Philadelphia with classmates the likes of Lee Morgan, Ray Deeley received a full scholarship to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music, studying with Fred Hinger and graduating in 1955. After graduation he worked as a first-call drumset player and percussionist touring the world with A-List musicians and entertainers, including Vic Damon, Bobby Rydell, Chubby Checker, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Liberace, Milton Berle, Don Rickles and Julie Andrews, just to name a few. He also traveled with the Dick Clark American Bandstand tours to Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hong Kong, performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, worked as a studio musician at Cameo-Parkway Records, and later taught drums and percussion for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Bucks County Community College and Immaculata University. Today Ray exercises daily, continues studying and practicing drums and percussion and performs for various musical artists throughout Philadelphia and South Jersey.
