The APEC summit has transformed the city of San Francisco, which is currently bustling with political and business leaders as well as protestors descending on downtown. But ten years ago today, the city came to a standstill for a different reason. The Make-A-Wish Foundation, with the help of city officials, remade San Francisco into Gotham City for a day, all to help a five-year-old boy who was battling cancer. KCBS Radio news anchors Bret Burkhart and Patti Reising spoke to KCBS insider Phil Matier about that special day and how it came together.

Do you remember the Make a Wish #batkid? You probably saw Miles story via social media influencers, journalists or celebrities sharing on their social media channels. Kristy’s agency spearheaded the #batkid campaign for Make a Wish. I was able to sit down with Kristy Sammis founder of Clever (https://www.realclever.com ) to do a deep dive into influencer marketing. Many of the questions we discussed came directly from you. Subscribe here to learn more about online marketing secret tips: anchor.fm/molly-okane Find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mollyrokane/ Read more about influencer marketing on my blog: https://mollyokane.com/influencermarketing/ So here is a little bit about Kristy…. Kristy has successfully managed to turn her bootstrapped venture, Clever, into a multimillion-dollar company. Clever, which Kristy founded in 2009, pairs brands with social media influencers. Today, its network is no joke -- Clever Girls reaches 75 million women a month. Kristy’s spent the better part of the last decade translating the amazing aspects of social media– those embodied by the #Batkid phenomenon that CLEVER spearheaded—into business principles: notably, that authenticity rules, “users” are actually human beings, and great stories always win the day. 2016 & 2017, Inc. 5000 has recognized CLEVER as one of America’s Fastest Growing Companies. And this is all in addition to being a mom to her kids -- ages 7 and 9. In this podcast discover the answers to questions like: What are the benefits of running an influencer marketing campaign? And when is the right time to add an influencer to a brand? Do you foresee any changes in influencer marketing in the upcoming 5 years? What is the first step to identify and evaluate the right influencer? How do you find them? What's the best way to pitch an influencer? What percentage of your marketing budget should be used when hiring an influencer? What type of ROI should a business look for? What Are Some Characteristics of a Successful Influencer Marketing Campaign? And many more. Leave a comment and let me know what you learned and how you are going to use it in your business.

Welcome to Episode 24 of The VentureFizz Podcast, the flagship podcast of Boston's most trusted source for startup and tech jobs, news, and insights! For the 24th episode of our podcast, I interviewed Sue Graham Johnston, the President of 128 Technology in Burlington. I have to admit, one the best things about doing this podcast is the opportunity to dig deep into the background of our guests. When I'm doing research on each person, there's always something that comes up that helps take the story to the next level. Well in the case of Sue, as I was doing my research on Google, I was blown away to see a connection to an amazing story that made headlines across the world for a great charity, that being the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Sue and her husband were two of the key people that helped grant a wish for a boy named Miles Scott, who ended up being Batkid for the day in San Francisco and fight crime alongside Batman, who was played by Sue's husband EJ, to rescue the damsel in distress, who was played by (you guessed it) Sue Graham Johnston. It is truly an amazing and heartwarming story that we talk about at length. She also shares the details on how they've played a role in crashing the Make-A-Wish Foundation's website not once, but twice. We also talk about: -Her professional accomplishments, of which there are many. -What she learned at Oracle in terms of operational leadership. -128 Technology - why she joined and what the company does. -Her passion for very important issues, like addressing the pipeline issue of women in STEM roles and working to fix the gender pay gap. Lastly, if you like the show, please remember to subscribe to and review us on iTunes, or your podcast player of choice! It's the ultimate guide to learning how to curate ideas and see the patterns in what others miss to identify trends that can change your business or your career. What do Disney, Bollywood, and “The Batkid” teach us about how to create celebrity experiences for our audiences? How can a vending-machine inspire world peace? Can being “imperfect” make your business more marketable? Can a selfie improve one’s confidence? When can addiction be a good thing? The answers to these questions may not be all that obvious. And that’s exactly the point. For the past 4 years, marketing expert and Georgetown University Professor Rohit Bhargava has curated his best-selling list of “non-obvious” trends by asking the questions that most trend predictors miss. It’s why his insights on future trends and the art of curating trends have been utilized by dozens of the biggest brands and organizations in the world like Intel, Under Armour and the World Bank. In today's show, find out why you should be non-obvious, how you can make an impact, and a lot more. Hardcover edition coming March 23.

Back at you in stunning Stereophonic sound is The Last Cast on Earth – Episode 23 – No Relation! (no relation to Toronto's worldwide embarrassment of a Mayor, ahem) We at The Last Cast don't often get political: but we just can't let the week go by without at least mentioning Rob Ford, the crack-smoking Mayor of Toronto. Speaking of illicit drugs - we play: "Is that the nickname of a street drug, or is that a super-hero?" Also, our thoughts on the Hot Topic Hot Button Issue, San Francisco's BatKid, and should you really by a console at launch? Hmmm. It's a Big Board Game week: Chris celebrates his birthday at Snakes and Lattes by playing: Takenoko, and Tokaido. Two cool Japanese themed games. Both Highly recommended. The Last Cast gets invited to a preview screening of Thor: The Dark World, and Tim says Loki steals the show (and his heart?) Beware the Batman is a new favorite show, find out how they've put (yet) another new face on our favorite caped crusader. Also, Richie gives his thoughts on Call of Duty: Ghosts. Other Video Games: Tiny Death Star (awesome!), and more Hearthstone (OMG! SOooo good!) This week we have a new feature - Dr. Dom Movie Reviews - What's out, what's coming out, and what's on your Blu-rays at home? Find out in this Entertainment Snapshot by Dominic Messier from Pop Culture Landscape. As always, if you like our Stiff IFs, send us your own on Twitter (@The_Last_Cast) or at our Facebook page. ...this podcast will self-destruct. The Last Cast, cast: Richie Favalaro. Christopher Coey. In July of 2013, the hallowed halls of the NERD NATION were locked up, possibly never to be opened again. Gene & Siike were forced on separate paths, both working their dream jobs in the world of comics, no longer having time for such childish fun. The disconnection from the thousands of friends that downloaded each episode, tuning in and nerding out each and every week, began to eat away at the two embassadors' very souls. Luckily, the paths they were on had once again converged, uniting the two fanboys near the halls of their beloved island city.   This is the NERD NATION! All walks of nerd life are welcome and encouraged to take shelter within these city walls. Every week, discourse over different parts of nerd culture are discussed, celebrating the things that we all love that make each of us unique. Tonight, the embassadors will talk about THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER SMITTY, what comics, movies, television, and music Gene & Siike came across during their time apart, the upcoming Dr. Who 50th anniversary event, and a brave young man named Miles Scott, who saved Gotham City today from The Penguin & Riddler as the watchful guardian known as BAT-KID!  Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and every great hero reminds us there's a hero inside us all. If you've never listened to an episode before, this is a great place to begin. As we say in the NERD NATION... tune in, nerd out!
