Jay Rawe hails from Florida and has a B.A.S.E. Jumping background which immediately makes him different from a lot of my guests. What else is different is the challenges of his childhood. Growing up in one of the pill capitals of the world, Jay was sucked into the world that was opiate addiction and that wreaked havoc on his life. While not sober, when Jay got off pills, that's when his skydiving life took off. After some B.A.S.E. training from Red Bull Airforce athlete Miles Daisher, and Jay was on his way to a life in the air....but tragedy struck, and Jay not only lived to tell the tale, he found sit-skiing and these days, he's pushing the envelope more than he's ever pushed in his life. In 2004, Josh Dueck was paralyzed from the waist down in a ski accident. With the support of his now wife, Lacey, he embraced the challenges he faced. In 2009, he was the Para Alpine world champion. He went on to win silver at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympics, and a gold medal at the X Games in 2011. In 2012, he made history by becoming the first person to ever land a flip in a sit ski! This accomplishment even earned him a guest spot on the Ellen DeGeneres show! At the Sochi Paralympics in 2014, he won a silver medal followed by gold in the Super Combined, and he became Canada's flag bearer. Since his retirement from competing, Josh has dedicated himself to his wife and two kids, as well as furthering opportunities for other like-minded athletes. He leads the British Columbia Freestyle Ski Association, and has been appointed the Chef de Mission for the 2022 Paralympic Games in Beijing. Josh and Lacey support several non-profit organizations including Spinal Cord Injury, BC, High Fives Foundation, Live it LOVE it Foundation, and others. Josh's award-winning documentary entitled Freedom Chair is definitely worth the watch! Josh is as fun as he is inspiring. He has depth and wisdom, and included a beautiful tribute to the late Canadian freestyle skier, Sarah Burke (1982 – 2012) and her husband, Rory Bushfield. Rest in Power, Sarah. “Let love lift us higher.” https://joshdueck.com/

Josh Bibby is one of those standout Canadian skiers who made his way to the pro rankings via the competition circuit and spent some time on the bubble of the slopestyle scene and then left that all in the rear-view mirror to film for video parts. The thing that really sets Josh apart from the rest, aside from his style, is his amazing, funny personality and antics. On the podcast we talk about coming up in moguls, the Vernon crew, working with me, sponsors, money, firefighting, and a whole lot more. Part two of Simon's interview with Josh Dueck!
Part two of Simon's interview with Josh Dueck!
Josh Dueck is the quintessential obstacle course guest including a stunning story, professionally told and is now changing the world through his work. This is Part One of our conversation. Here's the word John nearly hurt himself trying to pronounce. Despite John's weird analogy, this episode really does have everything and is the essence of Obstacle Course. Andrew practiced for weeks to say Chef De Mission. For the record, Josh is a 3 time paralympic medalist, including gold! He's also won an X games gold medal and the world championships.John's finger has healed nicely. His ego continues to be a work in process.--------------------Josh is the first person in history to perform a backflip on a sit ski!!! Here's the iconic jump!"We're going to go make an effort today." It turns out that's all any of us can ever do. Wake up. Do the work. Rinse and Repeat. When we're in the middle of doing our best work and aren't distracted by ego or fear, serenity will guide the way. The Freedom Chair is a beautifully filmed award winning documentary about Josh's iconic jump. It can be watched on Apple TV for the low low price of $3. Josh's TED talk is raw, honest and incredibly inspiring. A must watch! Josh was only 23 at the time of his accident. In the moment before the jump, he remembers disregarding the warnings to impress a bunch of young kids."What is my why in this moment?" Fear may sometimes be a red flag from the body. It's important to use wisdom and meditation to decipher normal fear from a legitimate warning from our higher self. We love you Ellen!! Just keep filming. Just keep filming. Here's Josh's excellent appearance on Ellen.Josh's Three Life Mantras1. Everything happens for a reason2. Nothing happens we're not strong enough to deal with3. Everything in my life has prepared me for this momentThe ambulance ride/rock bottom can feel like an eternity. But like every moment, this too shall pass."Things don't happen to us, they happen for us." Tony RobbinsThe life affirming words from the Josh's Doctor, "Gab," were transformative and they are still close friends and neighbours to this day. At rock bottom, hope remains and becomes the light that sees us through.Join us for Part Two of this epic conversation.

Josh Dueck is an absolute legend in the adaptive community. He became an instant celebrity after he appeared on the Ellen Degeneres show for becoming the first person to do a backflip in a sit ski. He is a Paralympic gold medalist, ambassador and mentor, and one of the reasons adaptdefy’s Mike Brown was able to bounce back and keep his head held high following his spinal cord injury. Josh has so much wisdom to share and is one of the nicest guys around.
Almost 13 years ago Josh Dueck, world class skier, over shot a front flip off a massive jump. He crash landed, severing his spinal column and rendering him a paraplegic without feeling from the pelvis down, never to walk again. Fast forward to present day and the first question Brian asks is “does your dick still work?”. Nice one Brian… Real nice. Although to give him credit it opened the doors for a conversation that went deep down to a level that most of us rarely have the pleasure of experiencing with someone we’ve only just met. A no holds barred fully open dialogue about the ups and downs of life from a chair. Paralympian gold medalist skier Josh Dueck shares the story of how he faced adversity after being paralyzed from the waist down and went on to become the first person to do a back flip on snow in a sit-ski.
5Point Film Festival invited us back for another live Dirtbag Diaries. And of course, we said, "Yes!" We invited four people up on stage to to talk about a moment in their lives when it all seemed to go wrong. And where those moments have led them, as the effects have rippled through their lives. Today we present the first two stories. At 23, free skier Josh Dueck overshot the landing of a jump and fell 100 feet out of the air. He returned to skiing the following winter in a sit ski. And he rips! You owe it to yourself to watch The Freedom Chair and Josh hucking a backflip. Kayaker Chris Korbulic was nearing the end of a 7 week trip through central Africa with Ben Stookesberry and Hendri Coetzee. After paddling the difficult stretch of the Lacuga River, a crocodile pulled Hendri underwater. The film Kadoma (full version available on iTunes) tells the story of their trip. Chris has continued to return to Africa pursuing the rivers that brought him together with Hendri. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN
