We all have our favourite soap operas, whether it be Isidingo, Uzalo, Muvhango or 7de laan. We love how the story lines are always ready to shock us whilst having dinner, after the children's bath time or before we get back to the books. Last week 7de laan, that airs on SABC2, had their first same-sex passionate kissing scene on your screen. Leaving viewers gasping, some dropping their forks and others feeling safe, included and understood. Stacey and JSbu caught up with Deanre Reiners (Shawn) who was at first very anxious of pushing his acting talent to the limits, but decided to turn this opportunity into an on-screen moment that would speak to people who felt that they had no voice and to promote inclusivity among our “fellow South-Africans” as President Ramaphosa would phrase it. Deanre speaks out about how his family, friends and the public had reacted and how Twitter lit up after the episode aired. He pinpoints the fact that 7de laan aims to “reflect a society as a whole.” Deanre also emotes gratitude when he speaks about how his girlfriend supported him from the get-go and then drops the small detail that his father is a pastor. There still seems to be a lack of information and statistics around this issue however when it comes to the South African context with the burning question at the centre of the discussion being: "How big Human Trafficking really in South Africa?". Unfortunately it seems there is no definite answer to this question. In fact, comment ranges from one extreme to the other. On one side, the prevalence of trafficking is seen by some to be presented quiet sensationally with a lot of guess work. This creates a problem of credibility with the public and panic. On the other end of the spectrum, we have an equally concerning narrative which is driven by sceptics who disregard evidence-based data, thereby declaring that human trafficking is a perpetuated myth and not a serious problem compared to other well referenced societal issues. According to the annual Trafficking in persons (TIP) by the State Department in the United States, Human Trafficking indeed a concerning reality in South Africa. he Centre for Child Law at the University of Pretoria reports that what is known about trafficking is largely based on ad hoc studies, questionable and outdated statistics, anecdotal information, and common myths. Furthermore, confusion around the actual definition of human trafficking means that it is regularly conflated with human smuggling and other forms of irregular migration. There is no denying that there seems to be a pattern of young children being targeted for most of these alleged human trafficking cases. Stacey and JSbu approached Marc Hardwick, the Managing Director of The Guardian which is the only Specialist Private Child Abuse Investigation company in South Africa and the National Anti-Human Trafficking Coordinator, at the Salvation Army Carin Holmes about this matter.

How do you keep the spark, butterflies, and romance alive in a long-term relationship? aking your relationship a priority can seem like a daunting task, because life events always get in the way. There are the daily pressures of work, raising a family, and chores. Throw in a whole global pandemic and it literally seems like there is no time to give your relationship any investment. The COVID-19 pandemic has also meant that a lot of couples have had to be cooped up with each other under one roof with no opt out option for an escape. Increasing annoyances and reoccurring arguments that do not create a loving environment have been the order of the day for many. However, there are things you can do to combat those issues. Let's talk about sex.. For many people, sex is a very important component of any romantic relationship. In order to have great intimacy with your partner though, you need to feel more connected to your partner as it makes you feel cared for and comforted. Keeping your love life interesting over time can be a real challenge. Over time, people change both physically and psychologically, and life regularly throws us plenty of curve balls. Your sex drive and your partners may also vary from time to time. For Stacey Norman, a big mistake many couples make is to believe that the natural attraction and sexual energy they enjoyed during early phases of their relationship will inevitably carry over, without any effort from both parties. For Stacey, this is simply a myth. Chemistry, like anything else in life, has the potential to die out unless it is worked on - and that is why it is important to make it a priority. The team spoke to Dr. Eugene Viljoen, a Clinical Psychologist and Sexologist who specialises in a range of disciplines, including sex therapy. Listen to his advice for couples who want to keep the flame burning:

Millennial parenting: how different are you to how your parents parented you? A new study has revealed that millennials may be the most family-oriented generation in the last 50 years. Millennial parents are said to be changing the norm to raise healthier kids. Now, lets be honest, millennials are known for many things mainly based on stereotypes but we can all agree that in general the new generation is often seen as being irresponsible. When you think of family values, do millennial parents come to mind? If we are being honest I think most of us despite our age would answer with a 'no'. Research and statistics by Working Mother Research Institute indicate that millennials, those born between 1981 and 1996—may be the most family-oriented generation in the last 50 years. Perhaps many of the younger generation haven’t bought into the kid-free, commitment-free lifestyle as much as it appears in the media. JSbu who is the proud father of baby Zanda, agrees with the above research. JSbu shares that he and his father in particular have a very different parenting style and as much as he appreciates the way his father and mother brought him up he feels that he would of benefitted from how he parents his son, Zanda.

On this weeks edition of the fixer, Stacey and JSbu received the following email from KZN listener Themba: I think my partner may have an alcohol problem, or should I say an unhealthy coping mechanism which is related to alcohol- I would not go as far as labelling her an alcoholic. The story is, early this year she had to be retrenched from her dream job- everyone knows the deal with COVID and how many companies were struggling. Now, we live together and in our relationship I take care of the big bills and she takes care of the household bills such as groceries. She is in a bit of a slump as she tries to find a new job and is drinking almost every night, lunch and dinner and just before bed- she does not get necessarily wasted every day but her alcohol intake and the frequency is making me super uncomfortable. How do I approach this conversation with her whilst still being loving and respectful? What advise would you have for Themba if you were in his shoes?

On Tuesday, Stacey and JSbu spoke about a colleague whom has shared with them that she caught a fellow colleague gossiping about her behind her back! She was walking past the corridor and heard her name and leaned in a little closer to hear what was being spoken about - she was legit on her bike about to go and confront the colleague when Stacey and JSbu had to stage a mini intervention for her not to approach the colleague right now, as her emotions were heightened. So they asked KZN to think about this, if you caught a fellow colleague gossiping about you, what would you do? And KZN had a lot to say: "I'm way too emotionally intelligent to care what they said about me, I'm there to work get my money and see to my family their gossiping don't pay my bills" Listen to the podcast to hear what KZN had to say. If you caught a fellow colleague gossiping about you, what would you do?

On Monday, JSbu bought about the topic 'Vat en Sit', after his cousin decided to let their family know that she would be moving in with her boyfriend of 3 years over Sunday family lunch. The family was clearly not happy about this because of cultural beliefs they believe she can't move in with a man when she is unmarried. Joash on the other is a religious man and he out right said them moving into together before marriage would be a sin because with moving in together comes intimacy which is against the bible.
