Auch vor einhundert Jahren mochten offensichtlich nicht alle mit ihren Gratulationen bis zum Stichtag warten. Die Schiffbeker Zeitung etwa würdigte den Jubilar bereits drei Tage vorab, am 22. Oktober, und ob Strauß die Elogen, die ihm da gewunden wurden, so recht gewesen wären, sei einmal dahingestellt. Vielleicht konnte die Musikpublizistik damals einfach nicht anders, aber das höchste Lob, zu dem sich der Artikel emporschwingt, sind Parallelen zwischen der Fledermaus und des ‘größten deutschen Meisters‘ Richard Wagners Meistersingern von Nürnberg, welche hier allen Ernstes gezogen werden. Naja. Auch das Bashing der zeitgenössischen amerikanischen Unterhaltungsmusik im Namen von Johann Strauß, wirkt aus dem historischen Rückblick eher befremdlich, verrät aber viel über den zeitgenössischen Diskurs, in den uns Rosa Leu entführt.
