I read the book I Can Fix This by Kristina Kuzmič and immediately knew I needed to get her on the show. In this episode, we talk about what it's like to have a teenager with a mental health diagnosis, surrendering to the fact that we cannot control it, and how to help them and yourself. This is the perfect episode for anyone who has felt clueless, helpless, and out of control in the face of a loved one's mental health struggles. (I also say the one thing that she wishes people would stop saying to people who speak about their mental health publicly). Get Kristina's book here. ABOUT THE EPISODE:Kristina Kuzmič had harbored some denial about her oldest son's depression, anxiety and substance use. "Lots of kids have problems. Maybe everything will work itself out," she thought. That denial ended abruptly the night she had to call the police.Neighbors she hadn't even met yet stared from their driveways as her son was pushed into a police car, swearing loudly at her. Her three-word response to the shame and guilt she felt that night may just help change the way you view the world.Kristina went on to write the book "I Can Fix This: And Other Lies I've Told Myself While Parenting My Struggling Child". Her son, now in recovery, encouraged her to write every gritty detail of the family's struggles -- and wrote the final chapter himself. In this interview, Kristina brings the charm and humor that won Oprah's reality TV show to crucial issues facing parents with kids who are struggling. We discuss the power of shared experience in support groups, why she danced the night away as her son was in the psych ward, why the "good kids" in families often suffer in silence, and how parents can connect to them despite their sibling's struggles.  And so much more!EPISODE RESOURCES:Kristina's YouTube ChannelKristina's websiteKristina's FacebookKristina's InstagramThis podcast is part of a nonprofit called Hopestream CommunityLearn about The Stream, our private online community for momsLearn about The Woods, our private online community for dadsFind us on Instagram: @hopestreamcommunityDownload a free e-book, Worried Sick: A Compassionate Guide For Parents When Your Teen or Young Adult Child Misuses Drugs and AlcoholHopestream Community is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and an Amazon Associate.

It's Possible - Conversations with Successful Online Trainers

Today Carolina and Amber discuss the power of women and share some of the role models that most inspire them.   The Episode: The Women Have Taken Over   Today on the show, Ren and Jonathan are both away which gives Amber and Carolina a chance to take the slot for themselves, and they use it to talk about their role models. If you are a man and your first thought is that this episode will be worthless because it is hosted by women, then this is an opportunity for you to check yourself. As Carolina and Amber get into the women who impress them most, they also talk about why, and we get to hear the many different qualities that make women like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Dr. Jen Gunter, and Sonya Renee Taylor great. In this way the conversation covers themes like authenticity, challenging stereotypes, handling conflict with grace, and a whole lot more!   In This Episode Carolina and Amber's woman role models growing up [0:08:12] The types of influencers that women gravitate towards [0:13:00] Tips for coming up with content for social media [0:15:03] The woman influencers who Carolina and Amber follow [0:18:06] Issues with the value proposition of coaches who offer ‘empowerment' [0:18:06] Sharing content that comes from sources other than you with clients [0:25:14] Respect for women who can handle confrontation with grace [0:26:41] Following accounts that challenge your beliefs [0:28:23] Equipping ourselves with the vocabulary to help clients with body issues [0:31:05]   “We are not trying to indoctrinate you into anything. From there, they weigh in on the influential women who have made the biggest impressions on them and talk about why. Megan Calloway shares a ton of workout content in a way that is to the point and easy to understand, and she is known for designing some great pandemic workout workarounds. Tori Dunlap does an amazing job of making the topic of how to build wealth as a woman relatable and easy. Amie Tollefsrud is fantastic at teaching people everything they need to know about how to work Instagram for their business. One of the best things about Kristina Kuzmič is her authenticity and her ability to call things out in ways that give us space to reassess ourselves.   Amber and Carolina's Role Models Part 2 The conversation continues and our hosts share even more of the superwomen who inspire them. Dr. Jen Gunter is the author of The Vagina Bible and is also known for the smackdowns she delivers to men who say stupid things. Our hosts love Sonalee AKA the @fatsextherapist because of their advocacy and skill at challenging heteronormativity. In this episode, Matt chats to TV actor, author, and social media star Kristina Kuzmic. Kristina Kuzmic is a cheerleader for her fellow humans. It’s not something she ever anticipated doing, but after immigrating to America from Croatia during the war in her homeland and later facing more challenges (divorce, single parenting, poverty, depression…), Kristina wanted to be for others what she wished someone had been for her during her darkest hours. Now, with over one billion video views, Kristina is providing her audience with encouragement, hope and humor in a role she never expected to fill. In 2011, when Oprah crowned Kristina the winner of Mark Burnett’s reality TV competition “Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star,” Oprah said, “What is that thing?…That’s so charming and charismatic and connected to the audience that makes you feel like, ‘I know her, I want to be her, I’m like her’… Kristina has all of that. She is an ‘IT PLUS’ girl… I wanna watch her!”

Are you being super honest with yourself? Are you hiding your truth? If you are hiding who you truly are you'll never able to heal. This is the advice that our guest today gives. Kristina Kuzmič says that you won't escape other people's judgment... so stop trying to. Leave behind what people think of you and say about you and take care of your sanity, yourself and your kids. Then go a step further and be kind to yourself. Leave the negative self-talk behind by asking yourself ... would you talk to a friend like that? These are two key elements that allow you to embrace motherhood, yourself and your truth. Let's dive into this encouraging conversation with Kristina. Thirteen years ago, Kristina Kuzmič , was a broke and defeated mother of two; recently divorced; juggling jobs and sleeping on the floor next to her kids. She never imagined that a lo-fi cooking show she pieced together to reach other moms in the trenches would get Oprah’s attention. Today, she speaks directly to her 2.8 million Facebook followers in honest, funny parenting videos on topics from “Mind your own Motherhood” to a satirical PSA “4 Reasons women should NEVER breastfeed in public.” Her star is rapidly rising, and she recently took her message of acceptance and resilience on the road to 22 sold-out cities. Her witty, knowing, and sympathetic voice is captured on the page in her first book HOLD ON, BUT DON’T HOLD STILL: Hope and Humor from My Seriously Flawed Life. Kristina Kuzmič was born in Croatia and is a world-renowned speaker known for her unique insight and humor on family-related topics. She currently lives in Southern California with her husband, where her more important, rewarding, and exhausting careers include being a sanitation engineer, chef, chauffeur, and conflict-resolution guru for her three (mostly satisfied) clients—her children. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steve-richards/support

Welcome to this special bonus episode of The Mother’s Quest Podcast, an interview I had on my friend Anne Ferguson’s podcast – MamaFuel. In this conversation, Anne turns the tables on me, as she asks how the epic guideposts showed up in my life. I’m delighted to share this episode with you and use this as an opportunity to share some announcements and invitations for getting involved with Mother’s Quest in the new year.    I hope you enjoy this conversation I had on Anne’s Podcast.  I’m excited to be back in a few short weeks with the start of a new incredible season of conversations! Until then, seize the day, love your people, and honor your gifts. Much appreciation,  P.S. Be sure to check out the announcements below, including the news that TODAY is the last day to contribute to the GoFundMe campaign to support Trayvon Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton’s Circle of Mothers. Hope you’ll join us! Show Notes from MamaFuel the Podcast From Anne Ferguson: OOOOhhh am I excited to share THIS ONE! My guest this week is Julie Neale, founder of the amazing Mother’s Quest podcast, coach and mama of two exceptional and amazing boys. She’s a sparkling soul whose podcast gave me the courage to start hosting these MamaFuel conversations. Julie and I cover a lot of ground, from raising differently-wired kids to discovering your strengths and the support you have in community. I turn the tables on Julie and ask her to walk us through the guideposts that she follows in her own life and asks all of her guests to talk about – I really valued the insight into how Julie is living her E.P.I.C. life, sparked to the max with joy and delight at leading other mothers in discovering their version of epic living.   Julie spoke movingly about her interview with Sybrina Fulton, whose son Trayvon died as a result of racial profiling and gun violence. Julie and her community are supporting Sybrina’s incredibly important initiative “Circle of Mothers” which allows mothers who have lost their children to gun violence to gather and heal in community. If you’d like to help send some of these grieving mothers to Sybrina’s retreat, click this link: www.mothersquest.com/circleofmothers. Every contribution helps. Julie’s hoping that her community will be able to raise $15,000 and they’re two-thirds of the way there. I’d love our community to help her get to her goal. With your support, we have raised over $10,000 of our $15,000 goal. I want to close the campaign out so that we can get the funds dispersed to the Trayvon Martin Foundation in time to help 10 mothers attend the healing retreat, for mothers who have lost a child to gun violence, this May. Ever wondered what it would be like to talk to someone who lives in the public eye? Today you've got ringside (or earbud-side) seats for my conversation with Kristina Kuzmić (also previously known as The Truth Bomb Mom). She's a truth-teller, a BS-buster, a mama of three and an internet sensation whose mission is to support mamas.  We talk about how important it is to change your perspective so you can improve your life; making the most of your circumstances, no matter how challenging; finding your passion by finding what you hate or makes you sad and fixing THAT; mama shaming (don't do it); how a supported mama is a better mama, and so much more. Kristina is refreshingly real, funny and totally transparent about her journey from deep depression and a life juggling two jobs while raising two kids alone on food stamps to the life she's now living and sharing for us all to see. So many parents find inspiration in Kristina's videos. If you're being introduced to Kristina for the first time, you're in for a treat. And if you've been following her for a while, buckle up... this is a great extra glimpse into someone so many of us have come to know and love. You can find Kristina:On her YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQA1BP64hgYBVi3cHcKyG7AOn her Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/KristinaKuzmic/I also mentioned another great podcast where Kristina chatted with Julie Neale of Mother's Quest.
