LISA BIALES (Be-Alice) sings with a crystal pure voice and writes music about the simple things in life. She weaves a down home blues vernacular with finger style guitar to create songs that feel like they have been around forever. Following in her mothers / parent's footsteps, this little ol gal from Ohio graced the silver screen (acting and singing) in Francis Ford Coppolas movie “Twixt. Inspired by a found recording of a song her mother wrote, Lisa goes back to her roots on her latest album The Beat of My Heart. AMY BLACK has always been drawn to soul singers. But it wasnt until she began exploring her own southern soul roots for her last album, The Muscle Shoals Sessions, that she found her musical sweet spot and knew her next stop had to be the place where blues and soul convergeMemphis. Released on her own Reuben Records, Memphis puts Black already considered “a bluesy, R&B heavy hitter by Elmore magazine on the same continuum as soul sisters from Dusty Springfield, Ann Peebles and Mavis Staples to Bonnie Raitt and Shelby Lynne. WoodSongs Kid: Savannah Reeves is a 15-year-old singer and guitarist from Lexington, Kentucky with an incredible voice.

Sean Chambers, has a new album which drops on March 17th.  Circumstances* have given us the opportunity to be first to speak with Sean about Trouble & Whiskey.  We'll listen to some tunes, and talk to Sean about his life and music since he was last here back in 2013.  THANKS Sean for jumping in. Jim Koeppel has not released an album since 2009.  This new EP, RSVP To Paradise contains 5 tunes, three compose with Cash McCall.  A bandleader since the late ‘80’s, Jim has performed internationally and opened for some of the legends.  He and I will talk about his career and life, while we listen to tunes from the album. Lisa Biales returns to The Couch to talk about her new release, The Beat Of My Heart.  A sensational singer, songwriter and performer, I always love sitting and talking with this incredibly talented woman. *Popa Chubby was scheduled, but his European Tour date changed and he had to leave earlier than expected.  We will work on rescheduling in the future

LISA BIALES who is known for her clear-as-a-bell singing voice, has been dubbed, fittingly, “Belle of the Blues. This Ohio native over the past several years has been busy recording and singing the Blues. She released her 9th album which has been nominated for a Blues Blast Music Award for Acoustic Blues Album. Francis Ford Coppola enjoyed a Lisa Biales performance so much so that he cast her in his film, “Twixt, where Biales portrays a waitress named Ruth (and *Bonus) she picks up the guitar and sings. THE BAREFOOT MOVEMENT have been making waves in the folk world since the release of their 2011 debut album. Hailing from Johnson City, Tennessee, this ensemble mixes original and traditional numbers, complete with all the elements that make up the Barefoot sound: lush harmonies, thoughtful instrumentation, and memorable melodies. The band are award winners at the 2013 Telluride Bluegrass Festival and were asked by the American Embassy to perform in Burkina Faso, Africa. The band has just released a new EP of traditional songs they sing in concert that are fan favorites.

Lisa Biales has been called the Belle of the Blues. She’s always done things with a bent toward the past, but her seventh album, Singing in My Soul, takes things to a whole different level. Drawing on a diverse set of legendary songs, from Sister Rosetta Tharpe, to Mississippi John Hurt, from “Write Me in Care of the Blues” to “I Only Have Eyes For You” – Biales has crafted a classic-sounding album. But her strong, clear vocals manage to breathe new life into these vintage tunes. We talk to the Ohio native about the different approach she took to this new record, and how playing the role of Patsy Cline in a local theater production gave her new respect for the pioneering country singer.

LURRIE BELL is a legend of the Chicago blues scene. Born in 1958, the son of famed blues harmonica player Carey Bell, Lurrie picked up his father's guitar at age of five and taught himself to play.In addition, he grew up with many of the Chicago blues legends around him. Eddie Taylor, Big Walter Horton, Eddie C. Campbell, Eddie Clearwater, Lovie Lee, Sunnyland Slim, Jimmy Dawkins and many more were frequent visitors to his house. They all helped to shape and school him in the blues, but none as much as his father's long-time employer Muddy Waters. By seventeen Lurrie Bell was playing on stage with Willie Dixon and soon formed The Sons of Blues band and toured with Koko Taylor. 'The Devil Ain't Got No Music,' is Lurrie's latest. It's a collection of acoustic blues and gospel songs that recollect the music he often played with his dad and at church in Mississippi and Alabama as a child. LISA BIALES is a soulful songstress, performer, and recording artist who weaves a tapestry of Americana, jazz and blues inspired folk. A native of Ohio, Lisa grew up in a musical family and began her career as a performing songwriter at the age of thirteen. Lisa has independently released six albums of music under her own Big Song Music label including her latest 'Just Like Honey' which was produced by WoodSongs alum EG Kight. Lisa also makes her film debut this year in Academy Award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola's new film,Twixt.

She weaves a down home blues vernacular with finger style guitar to create songs that feel like they have been around forever.  Her latest is entitled Just Like Honey, which could be a description of the way she vocalizes her music. I will sit with Lisa to learn more about her life and music. Doug Briney began like so many other musicians, singing in church.  His first solo was when he was two years old.  During his college days, Doug had the opportunity to sing with a gospel quartet and travel all over the western half of the USA. He lives in Alaska and is steeped in country music.  His album, It's All About Country is out and Doug has a number of nominations because of it. We will chat and listen to his music. Paula Harris and her band placed third in the 2012 IBC and won the 2012 Monterey Blues Festival Battle Of The Bands. She delivers a mix of Impudent, Humorous, and Naughty Lyrical content in a Fusion of Blues, Funk and Jazz.
