Happy Holidaze everyone!  Here's our Christmas 2024 podcast, Jennifer talks about a “life changing” experience doing a workshop with Dr. Joe Dispenza recently.  She recounts a powerful meditation that included a past life memory that included a lifetime during the Holocaust.  For fans of the Flipside research, this is the third time someone I know has had an experience recalling a lifetime that ended during the Holocaust. It's a controversial subject to be sure, but to it's not reported lightly.  As note, in the book and film Flipside, there's a woman who recalled dying in Auschwitz, and then some years later a friend of mine did a session where he recalled being in Dachau – a very successful TV producer who when accessing this past life memory said “I'd had so many lifetimes in the light, I wanted to remember what it was like experiencing the dark.” (that's the “River of Souls” reference, a chapter in the book “Flipside.”) In this episode, Jennifer recalls how recalling this experience did some healing for her voice – literally and figuratively.   And in terms of Jennifer's experience, this memory was part of the healing that she went through. “Her voice needed to be heard.”  We have a number of friends stop by to weigh in or say hello – my old boss Robert Towne who met Jennifer a few years ago and did a number of sessions with her where he accessed his old friend Eddie Taylor and his dog Hira.  Also a visit from Amelia Earhart – and something I missed when we did the session, but heard in the edit. That is; she mentioned “using ChatGPT” in terms of exploring her story… and I forgot that I had done that for a specific reason. I will address this in a future session – where I asked ChatGPT a question about Amelia that I didn't know the answer to – despite years of exploration – and there was an answer that was very intriguing. So next podcast, I will revisit that conversation. That's the fun part of this exploration – since we do it every week (for the past ten years) I can bring something up next week that was said in this previous podcast. I hope I remember it! So this holiday season it's important to remember that those folks who are offstage are available to us. When celebrating try to toast them in present tense. Amelia says something about an Anniversary.    Indeed, it's been ten years since we first starting having these conversations.  Mind bending to be sure. Our loved ones are not far away.  Take the time to open oneself up to the possibility they still exist. And her daughter's surgery went great, and she reports everything is “just fine.” As Luana puts it “Know that your loved one is already healed before they go in.” “Everyone can access their loved ones offstage, wake up, believe it's possible, it's simple.”

This is one of those podcasts that I can't really begin to comprehend, understand, other than to allow that the over four decades I knew Robert Towne, it was like I was put in his path so I could do this interview. Robert was a prolific writer, some consider to be the greatest screenwriter who put pen to paper (or pages in a Selectric.)  Robert asked me to do this interview before he passed, made me promise.  I have sent the unedited version to his friends and family (without some pauses and spaces) and this version is slightly shorter - but not by much. Where to begin? I spent three years walking his dog Hira - and when I told him I wanted to direct, he said "I think that would be a good idea, but you'll make mild comedies."  He was right. I've written and or directed 8 of them that most haven't seen or are aware of. But while working for him, I got to know many of his closest pals - some who are offstage, some who are onstage - and in this interview I asked for his opinion about some of them. I introduced him to Jennifer about five years ago - he was a skeptic until we did a session and he was able to learn new information from people offstage.  He learned new information from his dog Hira. He learned new information from people I didn't know, never met - nor could Jennifer. I use first names in this interview, because that's all Jennifer needs. She doesn't recall the contents of our sessions - and she did a couple with Robert, but has done sessions with me weekly for 8 years.  She does sessions with law enforcement daily - and like an "Etch a Sketch" wipes her awareness clear each time. But for whatever reason, we can bypass the filters, talk to people offstage together. We do this podcast to demonstrated that anyone can.  I recommend watching this on the HACKING THE AFTERLIFE podcast because in the video version I put up subtitles as to who was being referenced.  Not hard to figure out - but Fred Roos, Warren Beatty, Goldie Hawn are mentioned. John Shaner. These folks were friends of his.  In some cases I didn't mention their names - and referred to them in Italian, because I know that Robert knows who I'm referring to, even if Jennifer does not. In the case of Eddie Taylor, we put to bed the idea he was the person who wrote Chinatown. It's a live demonstration of how people can speak to their loved ones offstage. Learn new information.  You don't need Jennifer (but it helps.)  We've been doing this weekly for 8 years. Jennifer did a number of sessions with Robert, and I filmed at least two.  Love is all there is. We come to the planet to have an experience with our loved ones, friends, animals. "It's over in the blink of an eye."  If one takes away anything from this session it's to realize that it's possible they still exist, that it's possible that we can communicate with them, it's possible that our pets, animals, loved ones still exist, are able to help us, reach out to us - keep an eye on us. Two things: the reference to the "monkey scene" in the film "Five Easy Pieces" (written by Robert's friend Carol Eastman (listed as Adrien Joyce) and directed by his pal Bob Rafelson.  It's possible he's referring to favorite dialogue, instead of "favorite lines he wrote" - because I have no awareness of his writing scenes for this movie (even though he did it for so many others, sometimes without credit like Bonnie and Clyde, Godfather and others).  But here's the dialog that he's referencing: Excerpt from “Five Easy Pieces” : Helena Kallianiotes is an over talkative hitchhiker:  Jack Nicholson is driving. (Just after the infamous table clearing scene)  Helena: (Palm) “Fantastic! .. I would have just punched her out... People... oof  (shakes her head) Animals are not like that... always cleaning themselves.  Pigeons! Always picking bugs out of their hair. Monkeys too. Except  monkeys do things out in the open that I don't go for.”  Bobby's eyes glazed over as he stares out through the windshield.  Helena: “I was in this place once, store with snakes, monkeys, everything  you could imagine. I walked in, had to run out. It stunk! They didn't  even have incense.. Filth you wouldn't believe! I don't even want to talk about it!”  (From “Five Easy Pieces” written by Robert's pal, Luana's roommate,  Carole Eastman, directed by Robert's pal Bob Rafelson, starring their pal Jack Nicholson. 1970) (Interesting to note; this dialog is in the script, but doesn't appear in the filmed version, some of the lines do, but the monkey part does not.  Robert like to say writing was "monkeys at a typewriter" until they get it right. When he left his deal at Warner Bros over the editing of "Personal Best" we took everything out of his bungalow except a giant stuffed toy ape that Warners had given him, and set him behind a studio typewriter with the page quoting Robert about monkeys at a typewriter. (Not his idea, mine and Richard Prince's) With his daughter's permission, here is the poem that Robert references in the podcast that Kate wrote about him: "I met the love of my life the day I was born. My father put stars in my eyes and words in my heart. When reading a poem to me when I was 10, the word god appeared. I asked him if he believed in god and pointing to the words he said,” I believe in this.” When I was about 6 it was my dad's 50th birthday. I looked up at him and with a shiver in my heart I said, “you're half of a hundred.” It drove me to distraction the rest of my life knowing the inevitability. I have endlessly bargained with this grief, chased and run from shadows and dreaded this painful thing until it shaped every part of me. He knew I could be morose and in his later years could gently point that out and boy, did it feel like home to be known by him. I don't know how to say I love you I love you I love you I will never let you go I will always be dreaming of you and I will always look for you in poems and magic hour and cats. Thank you for the apologies and the tenderness and the time. It wasn't perfect. It was better. “The wages of dying is love.”- GK In the podcast Robert refers to the last line being funny - "It was better." I gasped when I read it, because it was a surprise to see.  Maybe me weep with the memory of my pal. I did this interview at his request, and am sharing it as per his request.  Not only for his loved ones and friends, but for those on the planet who are suffering because their loved ones have "left the stage." Know that they are not gone. They just aren't here.  And we can access them if we need to or want to.

As a black climber in a predominantly white climbing climate Eddie gives us his perspective. For those who don't know Eddie is a very accomplished climber. He has summited Denali, he summited Everest as a part of the first all black Everest expedition under Phill Henderson he climbed the Nose in a day and sent Moonlight Buttress to name a few of his accomplishments. Talking with Eddie it was clear though that climbing was only part of the importance in his life. Eddie is a chemistry teacher, track coach and he expressed the importance of family and giving back to his community. In this conversation we discuss some of Eddie's notable ascents, what to look for in climbing partners, representation in the climbing community and much more. Please rate, review the show, and share this podcast with your friends. This episode of Next Step Leadership Podcast continues the conversation Tracy Reynolds and Chris Maxwell have with Eddie and Beth Taylor. The Taylors are spending time pouring into the leadership of churches during these difficult seasons. Instead of being defeated by church conflict and division or an anti-church culture, they believe we can walk in joy globally. Through the books and resources they've written, the Taylors help people study God's word. Rather than settling with church entertainment, it is time for followers of Christ to be disciples who study, learn, pray, grow, and develop. Let this episode inspire you to go deeper in your own spiritual growth. Ask yourself important questions. Who are you helping train and develop? What are you providing so young followers of Christ can learn? Are you living with the joy of the Lord as your strength? People love to listen to stories. Don't you? As leaders, we all understand the power of narratives. In this episode of Next Step Leadership, Eddie and Beth Taylor tell us their stories. Listen to how God has guided their journeys related to becoming followers of Jesus, marriage, family, their calling into ministry, years of pastoring a local church, and obeying God to start a new ministry. Learn how they have worked together to serve as true followers of Jesus. Think about where you are in your journey. Are you willing to go wherever God directs you? If not, what is stopping you? Not every church planting is successful. Risks aren't simple. Failure can be a friend. Ambitions must shift in total surrender to God. Ministry shouldn't be all we do — it should be a part of life. Have faith but don't deny facts. Seek help. Seeing qualified counselors can help leaders work through their hurts. Remember that He who has called you will guide you. He will not leave you. Eddie and Beth Taylor set an example of how a couple can serve together. Let us learn from their example.https://www.taylorministry.com/

Estrin was born in San Francisco, California in 1949, and fell in love with blues after his sister presented him with Ray Charles' The Genius Sings The Blues when he was 12. He began playing harmonica at age 15, and by age 18 was beginning to work professionally. Early in his career he played with Lowell Fulson, Z.Z. Hill, Travis Phillips, and Fillmore Slim. Estrin names Sonny Boy Williamson II, Little Walter Jacobs and Baby Boy Warren as key inspirations.  He played with and was mentored by Rodger Collins (whose 45rpm recordings include "She's Looking Good" and "Foxy Girls" In Oakland). Estrin moved to Chicago when he was 19 and worked with bluesmen Sam Lay, Johnny Littlejohn, Eddie Taylor and Johnny Young.  He met and sat in with Muddy Waters at the Sutherland Hotel in Chicago. He told the Sacramento Bee, "Muddy started shaking his finger in my face and said, ‘You outta sight, boy! You play like a man! I know that sound. That's my sound.'" Muddy tried to hire Estrin as a sideman but Estrin did not receive the phone call, and moved back to the Bay Area. He met guitarist Charlie Baty in 1973 and they created Little Charlie & the Nightcats based in Sacramento, California. Estrin fronted Little Charlie & the Nightcats for 30 years and performed around the world. They were nominated four times for the Blues Music Award for Band of the Year. In 2008, Baty retired from touring. Guitarist Kid Andersen joined Estrin with previous band members Hansen and Farrell and they formed Rick Estrin & The Nightcats that same year.   wwwmarkhummel.com www.patreon.com/markhummel

Interview with Climber and Teacher, Eddie Taylor. On May 12th of 2022 Eddie Taylor joined six other climbers on the summit of Mount Everest for the first all Black ascent of the Nepalese mountain. Seven months earlier, Eddie climbed the Moonlight Buttress, a 5.12+ 1000' sandstone wall in Zion National Park. These two ascents show the ability of Eddie to balance being a teacher, husband, father, and climber. Upon completing a double major and finishing his track and field career at the University of Colorado, Eddie went on to become a passionate rock climber, public school science teacher, head track and field coach and more recently Patagonia ambassador.

When the Marshall Fire burned over 1,000 homes in Boulder County in December, it also destroyed possessions: couches, children's toys and family heirlooms. Since then, many fire victims have dug through the rubble to find anything that might be salvageable. In the final part of our series From The Ashes, Leigh Paterson brings us a story about salvaged objects that contain memories.  Hundreds of people summit Mount Everest each year. But before this year, fewer than 10 of them were Black. In May, the first all-Black team of climbers successfully reached the summit as part of the Full Circle Everest Expedition. To learn more about the expedition, KUNC's Samantha Coetzee spoke to Eddie Taylor. He's a member of the Full Circle Everest Team and a chemistry teacher from Boulder. A new report looks at the emergency response during the first 36 hours of the most destructive fire in Colorado History. The Marshall Fire is responsible for an estimated $1 billion in damages. Two people died in the blaze. KUNC's Beau Baker spoke with colleague Leigh Paterson to learn more about this report. Colorado Edition is hosted by Yoselin Meza Miranda and produced bythe KUNC newsroom, led by news director Sean Corcoran. Web was edited by digital operations manager Ashley Jefcoat.  The mission of Colorado Edition is to deepen understanding of life in Northern Colorado through authentic conversation and storytelling. It's available as a podcast on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Stitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts. Colorado Edition is made possible with support from our KUNC members. Thank you! Our theme music was composed by Colorado musicians Briana Harris and Johnny Burroughs. Other music in the show by Blue Dot Sessions.

Eric Durant is not going to let his golden opportunity slip away. Not a chance. Now retired after 25 years full-time at the Berkshire County Sheriff's Department (he still works traffic details from time to time), he's all-in on his acting career. It is a dream he's had since his Mother utilized Shakespeare to help young Eric master his speech through a childhood stutter. His love of acting and performing took him to Los Angeles in the 1980s before coming back to settle down in the Berkshires to raise his family. Recently, Eric has been acting in productions throughout the Northeast. He even landed a role during a traffic detail and a serendipitous meeting with a director in the middle of the road. Now a grandfather, we cover a lot of ground, including growing up as the son of community legends Rev. Willard and Rosemary Durant, his own spiritual journey, some politics, and a life-changing health scare that told him it was now or never to follow his dream. We also talk about his days at the Berkshire County House of Correction and the ongoing challenges of providing the kind of services and treatment that will support inmates to succeed once they are free and back in the community. **Spoiler alert: We also talk about the season finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi (Eric is a big Star Wars fan), the effort to honor his parents by the renovation and renaming of Durant Park (with props to Eddie Taylor), and much more. I hope you'll enjoy my conversation with Eric Durant. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/john-krol/support

In this episode, I talk with Eddie Taylor, co-founder of Taylor Ministry Group, about his and his wife, Beth, and their ministry that is a vision to help every leader live from a healthy core and to do that by reaching, reproducing and resourcing healthy leaders though mentoring and discipleship.Eddie and Beth have been married for over 33 years and have three sons. Eddie has been a lead pastor, writer, conference speaker and sits on several ministry boards as an advisor and counselor. Eddie was born and raised in Waycross, Georgia.Early in their marriage, Eddie and Beth were prophesied over that their marriage would one day be their ministry and today they are fulfilling that calling with The Taylor Ministry Group that believes it takes healthy spiritual leadership to promote church revitalization and evangelism for around the world.Eddie talks about how his brother Kevin led him to the Lord and how he went to a revival service and was saved on November 2nd, 1986 and then on December 31st was filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit at a youth event when he heard a message given out from the Holy Spirit to receive the Holy Spirit and a calling into the ministry. He tells about Ray Owens, that mentored him and many others, and how he impacted his life even to this day that they still talk. He didn't just give him encouragement, but also at times that they would go for a ride and he would rebuke, or correct, Eddie in love over a comment or action that he had said or done. This was a father's love of correction and not out of hate and spite.Eddie also talked about how we should have 3 significant people in our lives and relationships. There are those who are a Barnabas, Silas, or a Timothy. They  may be someone that is in your life for a short time that pours into your life or vice versa. Then, there are those that are in your life for a long period of time as either a mentor or disciple. Eddie planted and started a church in in 2000 till they stepped down in 2018 to start their next season in ministry. Eddie shared that he has an acronym for mentoring and discipleship. This may be a lifelong or for a season for building and developing a protégé. It is call F. A. T.F- Faithful ( in that those you are mentoring should be faithful not just to you but in their walk with Christ.)A- Available ( are they willing to make time for you to pour into their lives and not as a servant to meet your needing.)T-Teachable ( are they willing to be taught. You can't teach an expert. Looking for those that are hungry to grow in their spiritual walk.)Eddie shares that when you are mentoring you should always be closing  and always looking for the next Timothy. He shared a quote from Mike Breem, which says, "If you attempt to build a church you will rarely make disciples; but if you attempt to make disciples, you will have a church."Eddie shares what him and Beth do it to teach what you know, but you reproduce everywhere else and who you are. You impress from a distance but impact up close. He talked about how pastors and leaders should look at attendance or budgets to gauge the health of a church or ministry, and that size and health of a church are two different ideas of ministry. What discipleship and accountability relationships do is help us see around us at 360 degrees to keep us from being deceived. We finally talked briefly about Eddie's new book that he has written and hope to be out laterThe Small Church Media PodcastThere are many podcasts for church media, but this one is for the small churches!Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

On today's episode of The Firn Line, we'll get to know climber, skier, high-school teacher and coach, Eddie Taylor.Eddie grew up in different parts of the country.  As a youth, he spent time in New Mexico, where he first learned how to ski.  It was these formative experiences, alongside trips to National Parks, that instilled a deep reverence and love for the outdoors.During his high school years, Eddie moved out to Minnesota with his mom and sister, where he excelled in sports - playing basketball, soccer and track and field.  But he also had an aptitude for academics, and by the time he graduated, he decided to move out west to Boulder, Colorado, to attend Colorado State University.Eddie focused on his education, majoring in both Mathematics and Chemistry.  But the allure of athletics pulled at him, and with the encouragement of some friends, he walked on to the track and field team.  It didn't take long for Eddie to impress the coaches with his all-around abilities, and before long, he'd earned a scholarship.By the time Eddie graduated from college, he had a lot to be proud of.  He'd accomplished a lot.  But like a lot of people in their twenties, Eddie ended up at different crossroads, pulling him in various directions.  Although his love for athletics was still there, some of the pull and excitement had waned, and injuries forced him to dial things back.  But sometimes adversity brings opportunity.Boulder, Colorado is a mecca for North American climbing, with classic arenas like Eldorado Canyon, Rifle, and Longs Peak just a stone's throw away.  It didn't take long for Eddie to get into the business, and before long, he was hooked.Links:The Firn LinePatreonEvan Phillips MusicSponsors:Alaska Rock GymThe Hoarding MarmotDeclination Roasting

Born in 1958, the son of famed blues harmonica player Carey Bell, Lurrie picked up his father's guitar at age of five and taught himself to play.In addition, he grew up with many of the Chicago blues legends around him. Eddie Taylor, Big Walter Horton, Eddie C. Campbell, Eddie Clearwater, Lovie Lee, Sunnyland Slim, Jimmy Dawkins and many more were frequent visitors to his house. They all helped to shape and school him in the blues, but none as much as his father's long-time employer Muddy Waters. By seventeen Lurrie Bell was playing on stage with Willie Dixon and soon formed The Sons of Blues band and toured with Koko Taylor. 'The Devil Ain't Got No Music,' is Lurrie's latest. It's a collection of acoustic blues and gospel songs that recollect the music he often played with his dad and at church in Mississippi and Alabama as a child. LISA BIALES is a soulful songstress, performer, and recording artist who weaves a tapestry of Americana, jazz and blues inspired folk. Lisa also makes her film debut this year in Academy Award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola's new film,Twixt.
