Paul Harvey - Little Church Around The Corner
In this episode, we're joined by Br. Christian Matson, Ph.D., who is a Hermit in the Catholic Diocese of Lexington and the director of a theatre company focused on suicide prevention called Earendel Theatricals (earendelonstage.com). Over the course of our conversation, Br. Matson tells us about his unique journey to religious life, first as someone who converted from Protestantism to Catholicism and then as someone who struggled to find a religious order that would accept him as someone who identifies as transgender, which he explains in the episode. Br. Matson's story is one of perseverance and a resilient commitment to Christ as he faced opposition to his calling to religious life. Team members on the episode from The Two Cities include: Dr. John Anthony Dunne and Rev. Daniel Parham. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Have you ever sang “carpool karaoke” on a long trip with friends or family? Psalm 127 & 128 are back-to-back “songs” in the Bible that were sung by ancient families as they traveled together. They're both packed with lyrics about God, mamas, daddies, children, & grandchildren. #MoFamilySong

Max Harwood and Natalia and Maria discuss their journey to the Orthodox Church and their business, Parousia Press. 1.) Parousia Press: www.parousiapress.com 2.) Have a question about Orthodox Christianity? Submit it here: https://forms.gle/RNvnj8G4ALctqWhb6 Natalia and Maria are adult converts to the Orthodox Church. They are homeschooling moms and understand the daily struggle to find time for spiritual activities amid the demands of housework, schoolwork, and the rest. They strive to live in sync with the church calendar but it is difficult to juggle information from Scripture, the Synaxarion, prayer books, and the liturgical calendar. To solve this problem they created Parousia Press, which creates organizing tools and homeschooling resources that keep Christ, Scripture, saints, feasts, and fasting before us every day. Their aim is to create tools that unite our spiritual lives with our daily lives. Max Harwood attends Holy Nativity Orthodox Church in Langley, BC, Canada. He has an Undergrad in Biblical Studies (Columbia Bible College) and a Masters in Theology (Orthodox School of Theology, University of Toronto).

Zachary Cunningham is a gifted artist with many talents. He is a poet, writer, and award-winning director. His love of poetry and jazz had an impact on his short films and feature-length narrative work. Zachary believes that if he hadn't had a rap-loving brother, he would never have become a poet. He wrote poetry using his brother's rap books. Zachary grew up on Detroit's east side. Growing up with his pastor father taught him about spirituality in his work, which he later applied to his filmmaking. To Zachary, poetry is his foundation, and removing it will transform him into a completely different filmmaker. He talks about his first short film, Little Church, and his upcoming film, which will be released later this year. In this episode, Zachary shares his journey to becoming who he is today. We're in a new series, Home, helping us understand where we are in an uncertain world. This week, James explains some of the history of the exile from the Old Testament and explores why embracing God's holiness can help others see Jesus. In our Little Churches this week we asked these questions: How are those you are serving experiencing the world right now? How are you presenting Jesus to them? What do you want God to do next in your Little Church? What do you think God wants you to do next in your Little Church?

God will establish and defend his own. We don't need to fight for our place; rather let us contend for the gospel and lift high the name of Christ
The first question people ask when they find out that I'm a minister is the name of the church that I preach for and then, without fail, follow up with the query, "How big is your congregation?"
We can live in and buy a house, but is the house a HOME? That depends on the people inside. Every house is unfinished without God's blesding; without God's blesding and being the GUEST of HONOR. Every house becomes a HOME a LITTLE CHURCH when dedicated to the Lord. May we have our house be blessed to the Lord. May our house be a HOME, a LITTLE CHURCH, where God dwells. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/fr-william-maestri-overfed-and-undernourished/support
Mini episode Sometimes you hit a bump and keep going. In today's mini episode, we had planned to sit down and talk with someone from Little Church of the West Wedding Chapel but it didn't happen so we walked around and took a little tour outside the chapel. https://littlechurchofthewest.com/ According to their website, the Little Church is listed on the National Registry of Historical Places, the only such place on the “Strip” with this honor. And Elvis was married here in the movie “Viva Las Vegas.” We may not have had an interview today, but we got to enjoy a lovely breakfast just down the street!
