Viewing historic pictures from the Lord Baltimore Hotel conjures images of the Overlook Hotel and Jack Torrance standing for a photo with a large group of guests. It's heyday came during the glitz and glamour of the 20s and 30s. The hotel has stood for nearly 100 years and hosted several notable people. It also was the scene of several suicides after the Stock Market Crash. And for that reason, despite its historic charm, there are many ghosts hanging around the hotel. Join us for the history and hauntings of the Lord Baltimore Hotel. ‘Tis the Season of Spookiness and we kick off the month with a visit to the gravesite of one of the true “Masters of the Macabre”, Edgar Allan Poe. While in Baltimore, Maryland, we stayed at the Lord Baltimore Hotel where Vince Wilson gave us a tour of the old (and purportedly haunted) hotel, after which we walked outside and down the street for a couple blocks to an old cemetery and underground catacombs. Along the way and while at the cemetery, Vince gave us some background about some of the “residents” of the graveyard.Next we make a call to Paul Prater in Little Rock, Arkansas, who gives us some tips, suggestions and advice on how we can create a “Ghost Walk” in our own backyard. View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize The majority of the recording in the first part of this episode was made while on the tour given by Vince Wilson in Baltimore; however, due to some mysterious and unexplained reason, some of the audio disappeared during the first part of our tour. Hmm. Well, we made a phone call and Vince filled in the part of the tour at the Lord Baltimore that was missing. Later we contacted Paul Prater on a Zoom call and recorded the second portion both with audio and video. You can view the video on YouTube by Clicking Here. Uh oh, we're getting PG-13 on this Outkast-sponsored* episode of Banshees and Booze! Pardon our therapy, but when shame-drinking is sort of your brand, you gotta talk it out sometimes before you get to the good part: more drinking! This week is a continuation of our (say it with us like it's Wheel of Fortune:) 50 States of Ghosts series, and the lucky bottlecap pull was MARYLAND! Wishing for oyster shooters in a pandemic, Amie discussed the haunted and shockingly tall Lord Baltimore Hotel where there are some double dating ghosts and a SUSS bartender who may be into some light S&M. And, strap in, Harry, becaue Tami goes full-Hermione on The Bloody Lane or The Battlefield of Antietam from the (soon to be a sequel!) American Civil War. We're haunted by houses without floors and Trader Joe's Orange Chicken. Cheers, Maryland! *lying . But certain places easily stand out when ghosts are mentioned. The five locations on this list are considered so sinister and malevolent, anyone interested in ghosts would love to visti them. These are the Top 5 Most Haunted Places in America. 5. Moundsville Penitentiary Located in Moundsville, West Virginia, the Penitentiary here first opened its doors to inmates in 1866. During the time, only a temporary wooden facility was in place as construction continued until the main stone buildings were completed 10 years later. 4. Winchester Mystery House After the heir to the Winchester rifle, William Winchester died from tuberculosis, he left behind a fortune to his wife, Sarah. The William’s family was known for creating the world-famous Winchester rifle, a weapon described as the “gun that won the West.” 3. Lord Baltimore Hotel First built in 1928, the Lord Baltimore Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland stands 22 stories high. Its beautiful façade and design echoes the French Renaissance Style and its decorated by dark red brick veneer with limestone trim over a sturdy steel frame. Over time, ownership of the hotel transferred from one hotel group to another. Its last transfer was to Rubell Hotels in 2014 where the hotel received a complete remodeling of the guest rooms and a restoration of the structure’s public places. It’s currently listed as a historic site. 2. Hotel Monte Vista Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff, Arizona, not only gains points for playing host to luminaries like Bing Crosby, Harry Truman and John Wayne, it also sits conveniently along the famous Route 66 highway. 1. Thornewood Castle Inn & Gardens Built by Chester Thorne, this 27,000-square foot manor took almost 4 years to build. Many of the parts were imported from an actual 400-year old English Castle. The stained-glass panels are also old, dating back to the 1300 while the crystal windows were also crafted in England. When it was finally finished in 1911, the structure had 54 rooms, 28 bedrooms and 22 baths and dubbed as the only authentic English Tudor Castle found in the United States.

There aren't many things scarier than a ghost. Except maybe a ghost that's out to get what was rightfully his and taken from him. This week's podcast is nothing but terror from both Kirsten and Erin. But as I write this, I'm realizing... Kirsten's story is nothing short of absolutely gruesome.Journey to the often spooky New Orleans with Kirsten to the mansion that has been dubbed the Sultans Palace. This incredible piece of architecture was the star of the street in its day but when it was occupied by a Turkish Sultan, things went downhill. Quickly. This story ends with a house full of blood, a hand in the yard and a city too terrified to even utter the occurrences that happened in this dwelling. And let's be clear. The Sultan isn't very happy either. And he's not shy about letting everyone know... Once we're done in Lousiana, we're coming back north for a trip to Baltimore, Maryland. In fact, we're going to be chatting about the hotel that Erin tried desperately to get Kirsten to visit when they last had a work-cation.But Kirsten wasn't down with the Lord Baltimore Hotel and it's not hard to see why. This mammoth of a building has changed hands more times than we can count and while the multiple suicides aren't named the cause, we have to wonder.Or is it the little girl that refuses to leave the staff alone. With her bright red ball while she screams in the corner. Or maybe the reason no one wants to check into the 19th floor has something to do with guest waking with unexpected company.Visitors from beyond.Tune in to hear tales that will make your skin crawl and your heart beat a little faster.Join the Group: facebook.com/groups/girlsandghoulsSend Your Stories: girlsandghoulspodcast@gmail.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
