The Haunted American History podcast is an absolute gem in the world of storytelling podcasts. From the very first episode, it captivates listeners with its enthralling tales of the macabre and paranormal, expertly blending history with chilling narratives. Christopher Feinstein, the host and storyteller, has a natural gift for weaving together suspenseful and engaging stories that keep you on the edge of your seat. His New England accent adds a touch of authenticity to each episode, making it even more immersive.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the fresh approach it takes to familiar stories. Instead of rehashing well-known tales, The Haunted American History delves deep into lesser-known events and brings them to life in a way that makes you feel like you're right there in the moment. The attention to detail in research and storytelling is commendable, providing listeners with a rich tapestry of historical context alongside the supernatural elements.
Feinstein's storytelling abilities are truly top-notch. His delivery is captivating and his ability to build tension within each story is masterful. The episodes are well-structured and paced perfectly, keeping listeners hooked from beginning to end. Additionally, his sense of humor adds a delightful layer to the podcast, balancing out the eerie moments with some much-needed levity.
While it's hard to find fault with such an exceptional podcast, if there was one aspect that could be improved upon, it would be the frequency of new episodes. As someone who eagerly awaits each release, it can be disappointing when there's a longer gap between episodes. However, quality over quantity should always take precedence, and I understand that creating such compelling content takes time.
In conclusion, The Haunted American History podcast is a must-listen for anyone with an interest in history or the supernatural. Christopher Feinstein's talent as both a writer and storyteller shines through in every episode. With its unique approach to storytelling and impeccable production value, this podcast is a true standout in its genre. I eagerly anticipate each new episode and can't recommend it enough to fellow fans of the macabre.

In Tooele, Utah, there's a haunted attraction that never had to pretend it was an abandoned hospital...because it actually was one. Asylum 49 occupies the former Tooele Valley Hospital, built on land that had previously served as the county poor farm. For years, its full-contact haunted house operated on one side of a wall while elderly residents lived in an active care facility on the other. But employees soon began reporting things no actor was responsible for: slamming doors, shadow figures, children in empty hospital rooms, and a little girl in a white nightgown who supposedly frightened the people hired to frighten everyone else. Tonight, we explore the history and legends of Asylum 49—and the bizarre complications that arise when a commercial haunted house claims its most convincing performers aren't actually on the payroll. At three in the morning on April Fools' Day, 1893, the alarm bells at Utah's Granite Paper Mill began ringing. The people living nearby heard them, checked the date—and went back to sleep. By sunrise, the mill's wooden interior and machinery were gone, leaving behind a roofless fortress of granite that somehow refused to disappear. Over the next 130 years, the ruin became a Jazz Age ballroom, a counterculture rock club, a Halloween attraction, a Hollywood filming location, and eventually one of Utah's most notorious haunted landmarks. But many of its ghosts have histories almost as strange as the building itself—because they appear to have been assembled from real events, theatrical props, canyon acoustics, and decades of collective memory. Tonight, we explore the Cottonwood Paper Mill, a building that survived fire, abandonment, and folklore... and may now be facing the one thing it can't survive: demolition. For decades, employees and visitors at Salt Lake City's Rio Grande Depot told stories about the Purple Lady—a young woman supposedly killed by a train after a disastrous reunion with her returning fiancé. People claimed to see her reflection in the women's restroom, hear her singing after hours, and feel her presence moving through the building's basement corridors. But when Utah historians finally dug into the story, they found something unexpected: there was no dead woman, no train accident, no newspaper coverage, and no Purple Lady before the state moved into the building in the 1980s. Tonight, we explore one of Utah's most famous hauntings, the century-old building noises that may explain some of its ghostly reputation, and the remarkable possibility that an entirely invented ghost story became real enough for people to start experiencing it. On the shore of Utah's Great Salt Lake sits a concert venue with a strange problem: it seems to have inherited more than a century of history that didn't actually happen there. The original Saltair burned. Its replacement burned, burned again, and was eventually destroyed by arson. The third Saltair was built a mile away—then the lake rose and flooded it. Today, employees report phantom footsteps, children laughing in empty rooms, a woman staring across the salt flats, and a uniformed man watching from an upper railing. But Saltair's strangest story belongs to a twenty-year-old woman whose remains were discovered nearby in 2000. For twelve years she was known only as Saltair Sally, until investigators realized that her extraordinarily long hair had been quietly recording where she'd lived. Tonight, we explore the monsters, ghosts, fires and strange history of the Great Salt Lake... and how science finally gave Saltair Sally her real name: Nikole Kristina Bakoles. For centuries, people living along South Africa's Orange River warned of something enormous beneath the water: a serpent capable of taking livestock, controlling floods, and guarding unimaginable riches in the deep places of the desert. Prospectors called it the Grootslang—the Great Snake. One terrified explorer claimed he watched it rise twelve feet from the river. Another supposedly disappeared while searching for its diamonds. And in 1910, British prospector Fred Cornell became concerned enough to throw dynamite into one of its alleged lairs. But the strangest thing about the Grootslang isn't whether the monster ever existed. It's that the elephant-headed creature you'll find everywhere online today apparently never existed in the original legend at all. Tonight, we follow the Great Snake from ancient water spirit to diamond guardian—and discover how the internet accidentally created an entirely different monster. In March 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 departed Kuala Lumpur carrying 239 people and disappeared. But the aircraft didn't simply vanish. Military radar showed it reversing course and crossing Malaysia. A forgotten satellite terminal continued quietly answering automated signals for hours. Investigators eventually determined the Boeing 777 had flown deep into the Southern Indian Ocean until its fuel was exhausted. More than a decade later, pieces of the aircraft have washed ashore thousands of miles away, but the main wreckage, black boxes, and definitive explanation remain missing. Tonight, we reconstruct the final seven hours of MH370—and examine how a quarter-million-pound airliner managed to slip through the seams of the modern world. On January 13, 1996, nine-year-old Amber Hagerman was riding her pink bicycle through an abandoned grocery-store parking lot in Arlington, Texas, when a black pickup pulled in. A witness watched a man grab her, force her into the truck, and drive away. Four days later, Amber was found murdered. Investigators would eventually learn something even more devastating: she may have remained alive for as long as two days after she was abducted. At the time, police had no way to instantly warn every driver, television viewer, and radio listener in North Texas what vehicle to look for. Ten days after Amber vanished, one woman called a radio station with a simple question: why not use the emergency broadcast system for missing children? Tonight, we tell the story of Amber Hagerman, the unsolved murder that still haunts Arlington, and how one black pickup truck changed the way the world searches for abducted children. In 1897, a mysterious silver airship allegedly limped across the sky above Aurora, Texas, smashed into a judge's windmill, and exploded. Townspeople searching the wreckage claimed they found something even stranger: the burned body of a pilot they believed wasn't human. They gave the stranger a Christian funeral and buried him in the local cemetery. Decades later, UFO investigators came looking for the body—and found metal beneath the grave, a missing headstone, a sealed well allegedly contaminated by wreckage, and a town willing to guard its cemetery with shotguns. Tonight, we investigate the Aurora UFO crash, the strange physical evidence left behind, and the practical joker who may have invented the entire thing to save a dying Texas town. In September 1900, ten nuns and ninety-three children were trapped inside an orphanage on the exposed western edge of Galveston Island as a Category 4 hurricane swallowed the city. With one dormitory already gone and the Gulf rising through the remaining building, the Sisters made a decision. They cut down the clotheslines, tied groups of children to themselves, and waited for the water. When the orphanage collapsed, ninety children and all ten Sisters died. Days later, recovery crews found them scattered along the coast—still tied together. The knots had held. Tonight, we tell the story of St. Mary's Orphan Asylum, the three boys who somehow survived, and a decision made in the final minutes before the deadliest natural disaster in American history destroyed almost everything around them. For generations, San Antonio teenagers have driven to an old bridge after dark, killed their headlights, and honked into the trees. According to legend, something eventually answers: pounding hooves, a woman's scream, the bray of an animal—and sometimes hoof-shaped dents discovered on the car when they finally make it home. They call her the Donkey Lady. But ask who she was and the story begins to change. A murdered farm wife. An abused mother. A woman drowned beside her donkey. A victim of Satanists. Different decades created different monsters, but every version preserved the same basic story: a woman suffers a catastrophe she didn't cause, and somehow she becomes the thing everyone fears. Tonight, we cross the Donkey Lady Bridge and explore one of San Antonio's strangest and most enduring urban legends. Two hundred feet from the Alamo stands a hotel that has never closed its doors. Presidents slept there. Theodore Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders from its bar. Gunmen died beside its mahogany counters. And for more than a century, guests and employees have reported that some of the Menger Hotel's former occupants never actually left. A murdered chambermaid still carries towels through the third floor. A cattle baron walks through a wall where his bedroom door once stood. Roosevelt apparently still enjoys the occasional drink. And a man in buckskin has one question for guests unfortunate enough to encounter him alone: Are you gonna stay, or are you gonna go? T onight, we check into the Menger Hotel...where somewhere between thirty and forty-five ghosts are said to have already answered. On November 22, 1987, Chicago sportscaster Dan Roan was recapping a Bears game when WGN suddenly went black. Fifteen seconds later, millions of viewers were staring at a man wearing a rubber Max Headroom mask. Twenty-eight seconds later, he vanished. Then, two hours later, he did it again—this time hijacking a Doctor Who broadcast for ninety bizarre seconds of distorted jokes, obscure WGN references, and a woman with a flyswatter. The FCC and FBI investigated, but nearly forty years later, nobody knows who did it. Tonight, we investigate the Max Headroom signal intrusion: one of the strangest unsolved crimes in television history, committed by someone who may have known far more about WGN than he should have. In the 1920s, workers clearing a hidden dungeon beneath an Irish castle discovered so many human bones they needed horse carts to remove them. An estimated 150 skeletons had been thrown into the pit—some onto spikes waiting below. Then, near the bottom, they found something that shouldn't have been there: a pocket watch manufactured in the 1800s. Someone had apparently still been using the medieval oubliette centuries after the Middle Ages ended. And that's only the beginning. Murdered priests, poisoned mercenaries, ghostly children, a woman in red, and a grotesque entity whose arrival is supposedly announced by the smell of a rotting corpse all belong to the history and folklore of Leap Castle. Tonight, we enter the fortress often called Ireland's most haunted castle... and meet the family that decided to make it their home. On the morning of April 29, 2003, thirteen-year-old Tabitha Tuders left her East Nashville home carrying a report card filled with straight A's. Her bus stop was only three blocks away. Neighbors watched her walking there, slowly reading the paper she couldn't wait to show her friends. Then, somewhere along a single residential block, she vanished. A young witness reported seeing Tabitha get into a red car. Bloodhounds later followed her scent to almost exactly the same spot—and stopped. Twenty-three years later, the car has never been identified, the driver has never been found, and neither has Tabitha. Tonight, we examine the disappearance of Tabitha Tuders, the nine-and-a-half-hour delay before police knew she was missing, and the terrifying possibility that the person she got into that car with wasn't a stranger at all. Nashville City Cemetery holds roughly 22,000 people—and apparently Nashville has never been particularly good at leaving them where they were buried. Civil War soldiers were dug up and moved. President James K. Polk passed through on his way to multiple graves. An epidemic vault filled with bodies was deliberately burned. And in 2010, construction workers accidentally uncovered the remains of the man Andrew Jackson shot in a duel and sent him there too. But the cemetery's most famous legend centered on a massive river boulder said to mark the grave of a heartbroken woman who killed herself. For more than a century, people reported ghostly lights and a woman in white around "Suicide Rock." Then preservationists cut away the ivy...and discovered the ghost story belonged to the wrong woman. Tonight, we enter Nashville's oldest cemetery, where even the dead have a difficult time keeping their identities straight. In 1846, the body of one of America's wealthiest slave traders traveled 800 miles up the Mississippi inside a barrel of whiskey. Waiting for him in Tennessee was his 29-year-old widow, Adelicia Acklen. She inherited an enormous fortune, buried seven of her ten children, negotiated with both sides of the Civil War to save millions in cotton, and built one of the grandest homes in the American South. Today, visitors claim Adelicia still supervises Belmont Mansion—setting off alarms, rustling across staircases, and apparently objecting when the furniture isn't arranged correctly. But the deeper you look into Belmont's ghosts, the stranger the story becomes. Because perhaps Adelicia isn't haunting the South at all. Perhaps the South is haunting her. In Franklin, Tennessee, a small piece of lead sits behind glass. A surgeon removed it from the skull of Tod Carter, a Confederate soldier who survived imprisonment, escaped from a moving train, traveled hundreds of miles to rejoin his regiment—and then fell just 200 yards from his childhood home during one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. His family found him alive the next morning and carried him into the bedroom where he'd grown up. He died there two days later. For more than a century, visitors have claimed Tod never really left. Tonight, we explore the Battle of Franklin, the haunted Carter House, and a question that still divides the town: when a place has witnessed unimaginable suffering, where does history end and the ghost story begin? For more than a century, people in a dark Tennessee hollow have told stories about something that follows travelers after sunset. You hear soft footsteps padding along behind you. When you stop, they stop. When you start walking again, they're right there on your heels. Locals call it Pitty Pat. But the footsteps are only the beginning. Doctors, riverboat captains, motorists, farmers, and hunters have reported impossible collisions, headless passengers, women in white, towering shadow figures, and black masses that seem capable of climbing trees. Tonight, we travel into Sale Creek and Pitty Pat Hollow... a place where 150 years of folklore may have begun with something very real stalking people through the darkness. In 1997, underwater microphones operated by the U.S. government detected something extraordinary in the South Pacific: a sound powerful enough to register on sensors more than 3,000 miles apart. Scientists knew the signatures of earthquakes, volcanoes, ships, and whales. This looked different. It looked biological. The internet quickly supplied an explanation—a colossal sea creature lurking near the most isolated place on Earth, suspiciously close to where H.P. Lovecraft had placed the sunken city of R'lyeh decades earlier. For fifteen years, the sound remained one of the ocean's greatest mysteries. Tonight, we uncover what really created The Bloop... and why the truth may be more unsettling than the monster. For fifty years, people across Bristol, England have reported the same impossible sound: a low, relentless drone like a diesel engine idling somewhere in the distance. It gets louder inside their homes, quieter when they step outside, and sometimes only one person in the house can hear it. Factories were blamed. Highways were blamed. Pipelines, the ocean, tinnitus, military transmissions—even 5G. Yet after half a century of investigation, something strange remains: residents have reportedly recorded a real low-frequency signal inside some of the very houses where the Hum is heard. Tonight, we investigate the Bristol Hum... and why shutting off every electrical circuit in the house doesn't necessarily make the sound disappear. On a freezing Sunday morning in 2019, nine-year-old Serenity Dennard ran out of a children's treatment facility in South Dakota's Black Hills. A witness watched her turn north along a rural road without a coat until the trees swallowed her from view. Three to five minutes later, that same road was empty. What followed became one of the largest missing-person searches in South Dakota history: more than 1,500 searchers, 66 agencies, hundreds of K-9 deployments, and 6,000 miles covered on foot. They found nothing. Not a boot print. Not a piece of clothing. Not a single confirmed track. Tonight, we examine the disappearance of Serenity Dennard, the institutional failures that cost rescuers critical time, and how a child could seemingly vanish within fifty yards of where she was last seen. For more than 140 years, a pink quartzite fortress known simply as The Hill has loomed over Sioux Falls. Its walls have witnessed riots, murders, executions, deadly escape attempts—and one innocent man who had to be hanged three times before the state finally killed him. But the prison's strangest story comes from its chapel, where generations of guards reported a mysterious woman, unexplained cold spots, moving objects, and even a locked door seemingly opening by itself. Nobody knew who she was. Then, buried in the archives, investigators found the forgotten story of a woman murdered on that exact stage in 1935. Spearfish Canyon has a habit of swallowing things. In 1887, a farmer discovered a stone supposedly containing the final words of a prospector who vanished into the Black Hills more than fifty years earlier. Since then, the canyon has erased an entire mining town, destroyed a railroad, hidden missing hikers from search teams... and, for nearly ninety years, even lost a waterfall. Add sacred Lakota traditions, unsolved murders, modern Missing 411 mythology, and a landscape almost perfectly designed to make people disappear, and it's easy to understand why generations have believed something is wrong inside this gorge. In 2011, a pair of Swedish treasure hunters scanned the floor of the Baltic Sea with a $1,900 sonar system—and accidentally ignited one of the biggest archaeological mysteries of the internet age. In 1807, a woman stood laughing on the courthouse steps in Edgefield, South Carolina. Moments later, her own brother walked across the square, picked up a stone, and killed her in broad daylight. No one arrested him. No one charged him. The town simply let him walk away. To understand why, we have to unravel the extraordinary story of Rebecca "Becky" Cotton—a woman who murdered her husband with an axe, charmed a jury into acquitting her, married one of the jurors, and became the inspiration for one of the South's darkest legends: The Devil in Petticoats. For more than 300 years, Charleston has whispered the same warning: don't look into the rainwater on Water Street after dark. They say the flooded gutters sometimes reveal pale, waterlogged faces staring back from beneath the surface. According to local legend, they're the ghosts of pirates whose bodies were never buried after the infamous hanging season of 1718. Tonight, we uncover the true story of Blackbeard's blockade, the disastrous career of the Gentleman Pirate Stede Bonnet, and the executions that transformed Charleston Harbor into one of America's most haunted waterfronts. Charleston's Battery is one of the most photographed streets in America, lined with elegant mansions overlooking the harbor. But hidden behind one of those grand homes is a carriage house where guests have spent decades reporting encounters they can't explain. A headless Civil War soldier that growls when touched. A lonely Victorian gentleman who slips into bed beside sleeping women. Floating orbs, phantom footsteps, and rooms with reputations so infamous that visitors request them by number. Tonight, we uncover the haunted history of 20 South Battery and explore the centuries of war, execution, heartbreak, and folklore that may still linger behind its doors. Magnolia Plantation is often celebrated as one of the most beautiful gardens in America. Couples marry beneath its moss-draped oaks, tourists wander its famous bridges, and photographers capture its breathtaking blooms. But beneath that beauty lies a far darker history. Built by enslaved hands, shaped by Gullah Geechee traditions, and layered with generations of suffering, Magnolia has become a place where visitors report crushing sensations, phantom voices, shadow figures, and unexplained encounters that refuse to be ignored. Tonight, we explore the haunted history of Magnolia Plantation and ask whether some places can ever truly escape the past they were built upon. Charleston's Old City Jail is one of the most haunted buildings in America—or so the ghost tours claim. Nearly every story begins with Lavinia Fisher, the beautiful innkeeper who supposedly poisoned travelers with oleander tea before dropping them through a trapdoor to their deaths. It's a chilling tale... and almost entirely fictional. Tonight, we separate two centuries of myth from documented history, uncover the real crimes of John and Lavinia Fisher, and explore the darker truth behind a jail that witnessed piracy, rebellion, war, disease, and thousands of forgotten deaths. The most famous ghost ship in history never had steaming cups of tea, half-eaten meals, or a ticking clock left behind. Those details were invented by a young Arthur Conan Doyle years after the fact. The real mystery is stranger. In 1872, the Mary Celeste was discovered adrift in the Atlantic Ocean—her cargo intact, her provisions untouched, and every member of her crew, including the captain's wife and two-year-old daughter, gone without a trace. Tonight, we separate myth from history and uncover what likely happened aboard one of the greatest maritime mysteries ever recorded. In 1990, archaeologists uncovered a colonial grave in Connecticut unlike anything they had ever seen. The skeleton had been carefully rearranged—its skull placed atop its ribs and its crossed leg bones forming a macabre skull-and-crossbones. Someone had dug this man up decades after his death, cut open his chest, and burned his heart because they believed he was a vampire. But this wasn't the story of one corpse. It was part of a forgotten epidemic that swept across New England, where grieving families fought an invisible killer with shovels, fire, and desperate hope. Tonight, we uncover the true story of the New England Vampire Panic...and the disease that inspired one of history's greatest horror novels. On New Year's Eve 1843, Rhode Island's most powerful industrialist was found brutally beaten to death along the Pocasset River. His pockets were still full of cash, making one thing immediately clear: this wasn't robbery... it was revenge. What followed became one of the darkest chapters in American legal history, as prejudice, political influence, and a corrupt court system sent an innocent Irish immigrant to the gallows. Tonight, we unravel the murder of Amasa Sprague, the execution of John Gordon, and the wrongful conviction that ultimately led Rhode Island to abolish the death penalty forever. Hidden deep in the forests of Rhode Island stood one of America's largest institutions for people with developmental disabilities. For decades, the Ladd School promised care, education, and hope... but behind its doors were overcrowding, neglect, scandal, and heartbreaking loss. After the campus closed, abandoned buildings gave rise to ghost stories of shadowy figures, crying children, and haunted hospital halls. Tonight, we separate urban legend from documented history and uncover the tragic legacy of the Ladd School, where the real horror was never the ghosts...it was the system itself. Deep in the forests of western Rhode Island lies the forgotten site of the Ramtail Mill, where locals once claimed a dead night watchman refused to leave his post. They said the factory bell rang by itself, machinery roared to life after midnight, and a lone lantern drifted through the darkness long after its keeper was buried. The legend became so widespread that, in 1885, a Rhode Island state census officially listed the abandoned mill as simply: "Ram Tail Factory (haunted)." Tonight, we uncover the true story behind America's only government-recognized haunted location... and the family tragedy that inspired one of New England's strangest ghost stories. For nearly three centuries, sailors have reported a mysterious flame rising from the waters off Block Island... a ghostly ship said to burn without ever being consumed. Legend blames murderous wreckers, a doomed immigrant vessel, and a restless spirit forever searching the sea. But the real history is far more tragic. Tonight, we uncover the true story of the Princess Augusta, the infamous Palatine Light, a towering woman accused of witchcraft, and how one of New England's greatest ghost stories grew from history, folklore, and the unforgiving Atlantic. For centuries, the people of eastern Pennsylvania believed there was a hill where you could leave your sickness behind. Not cure it... leave it. Powwowers cast illness into an ancient rock, convinced it could absorb disease, curses, and human misery until the mountain itself became something to fear. But Hexenkopf is more than a haunted hill. It is a place where Native American spirituality, Pennsylvania Dutch folk magic, witchcraft trials, tax rebellions, and modern pagan traditions all converge on the same billion-year-old outcrop of stone. Tonight, we explore one of the strangest, and oldest, sacred places in Pennsylvania. For decades, the abandoned buildings of Pennhurst State School and Hospital have been called one of America's most haunted places. Visitors report shadow figures in the tunnels, phantom nurses walking the halls, and a towering entity known only as "The King." But the real horror didn't begin after the patients died... it happened while they were still alive. Built on the promise of compassion, Pennhurst became a warehouse of neglect, abuse, forced sterilization, and forgotten lives. For sixty-five years, America knew him by only one name: The Boy in the Box. A brutally abused little boy, abandoned in a cardboard bassinet box in a vacant Philadelphia lot, with no name, no family, and no one to claim him. Detectives chased psychics, carnival workers, and heartbreaking confessions that led nowhere, while one investigator devoted his entire life to giving the child back his identity. Then, in 2022, advances in forensic genealogy finally accomplished what generations of detectives could not. Tonight, we tell the tragic story of the child the world refused to forget. Gettysburg is remembered as the bloodiest battle ever fought on American soil. More than 51,000 men became casualties in just three days. But when the armies marched away, they left behind far more than broken fences and shattered lives. Hospitals overflowed with the dying. Mass graves disappeared beneath the earth. Families returned to homes stained with blood. Today, visitors still report phantom soldiers, silent field hospitals, mysterious figures among the rocks of Devil's Den, and an elevator that seems to open onto the summer of 1863. Tonight, we separate history from folklore and explore why Gettysburg remains America's most haunted battlefield. Deep in the forests overlooking Pennsylvania's Susquehanna River, hikers still whisper about a small, hairy creature that watches from the treetops, steals apples, and pelts trespassers with the cores. It's called the Albatwitch, a bizarre cryptid unlike Bigfoot or any other creature in American folklore. But is it really a monster? Or is it the last surviving echo of German folklore carried across the Atlantic by homesick immigrants more than three centuries ago? Tonight, we trace the remarkable evolution of one of Pennsylvania's strangest legends, from medieval Europe to modern eyewitness sightings at Chickies Rock. Long before the curtain rose on one of America's oldest continuously operating theaters, the land beneath the Fulton Theatre ran red with blood. It was here, in 1763, that the last surviving members of the peaceful Conestoga people were slaughtered inside the walls of the Lancaster jail. Centuries later, actors, stagehands, and bartenders report phantom footsteps, ghostly applause, disembodied whistles, and apparitions wandering the galleries. Is the Fulton Theatre simply haunted—or are its ghosts keeping alive a history too painful to forget? Tonight, we uncover the tragic past and enduring legends of one of Pennsylvania's most haunted landmarks. In the summer of 1518, the people of Strasbourg watched in horror as a woman stepped into the street and began to dance. She didn't stop for days. Then dozens joined her. Then hundreds. Men, women, and children danced until their feet bled, their bodies collapsed, and some died from exhaustion. The city responded by building stages, hiring musicians, and forcing the victims to dance even more—turning a public health crisis into one of history's most surreal disasters. Tonight, we unravel the mystery of the Dancing Plague of 1518 and ask the unsettling question: what if the deadliest epidemic wasn't a disease of the body, but of the mind? In the early 1980s, healthy young Hmong refugees across the United States began dying in their sleep. They went to bed exhausted and never woke up. Medical examiners found no poison, no disease, and no obvious cause of death. But the victims all shared the same terrifying belief: a malevolent night spirit called the dab tsog had come to crush the life from their bodies. The unexplained deaths became one of modern medicine's greatest mysteries—and inspired a young filmmaker named Wes Craven to create one of horror's most iconic monsters. Tonight, we uncover the heartbreaking true story behind A Nightmare on Elm Street. The city of Molalla, Oregon, proudly hides Bigfoot in its official logo. At first glance, it seems like a fun nod to Pacific Northwest folklore. But beyond the town limits lies a forest with a far darker reputation. Over the decades, its maze of logging roads and steep canyons became the dumping ground for serial killers, the hiding place of cults, the final resting place of missing people, and the setting for some of Oregon's most disturbing crimes. Tonight, we venture into the Molalla River corridor, where the real monsters never needed oversized footprints. Tucked beneath the trees of southeast Portland lies a cemetery that holds nearly every chapter of the city's history. Here rest Oregon Trail pioneers, forgotten psychiatric patients, Chinese railroad laborers, ship captains, politicians, and a man who may have been wrongfully executed after begging to face his accusers one last time. Over the years, visitors have reported phantom voices, drifting incense, grieving spirits, and an overwhelming sense that some stories refuse to stay buried. Tonight, we walk the quiet paths of Lone Fir Cemetery and uncover the people history almost erased. In the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley sits the quiet town of Aurora, a place founded by a man who once predicted the end of the world... and, when it didn't happen, set out to build heaven instead. Led by the charismatic Wilhelm Keil, the Aurora Colony became one of America's most successful utopian communities. Along the way came a coffin filled with whiskey crossing the Oregon Trail, a rooftop brass band, devastating epidemics, remarkable women who defied tradition, and a legacy that still lingers in the streets of one of Oregon's best-preserved historic towns. Tonight, we uncover the extraordinary true story of the Aurora Colony.
