"One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the epistle to the Ephesians. St. Paul highlights the salvation that God has given to His whole Church by His grace through faith. Because God has given His people this new life in Holy Baptism, we live in thanksgiving to Him as members of one body. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Sharper Iron is underwritten by Lutheran Church Extension Fund, where your investments help support the work of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Visit lcef.org.
St. Paul spent a long time in Ephesus during his third missionary journey. Even while he was later imprisoned, he wrote to them to instruct them in the Christian faith and life. The letter opens with praise and blessing to the Triune God. The Father has blessed us and chosen us in Christ before the foundation of the world. In the beloved Son of God, we are beloved as well. In Christ Jesus, the inheritance of all God's riches belong to us, because we have been sealed with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of the resurrection from the dead. Rev. Philip Hoppe, pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Colby, KS, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Ephesians 1:1-14. 7/23/24 - Jesse Romero, host of Jesus 911 heard on The Station of the Cross, joins the show to discuss his book One Lord, One Faith, One Church: An Inconvenient Truth (co-authored with Paul Zucarelli). It's no secret that there is an abundance of so-called Christian sects populating a wide range of churches, with different worship services and teachings regarding the salvation of your soul. But how can one intelligently make sense of this if there is one God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever? In this book, you will learn about the historical origins of the Church, early Church leaders, significant places in Church history, where the tenets of the Nicene Creed come from, and how the books of the Bible were selected. In addition, you will gain an understanding of key Church scandals in history and their “triggering events” that led to further fracturing of the Church. You will also discover how precisely to respond to the division that has occurred throughout the centuries. Moreover, you will receive the biblical basis for the universal Church and the four supernatural proofs for the one true Church. On this episode listen to an audio production of One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, read by Jordan Eigsti. This instruction follows the four patterns of classical faith formation. The Apostles Creed The Sacraments The Ten Commandments The Lord's Prayer These teachings espouse the essential doctrines that Nazarenes confess and practice as part of a global community of Christians in many denominational expressions worldwide using a traditional, centuries-old template for instruction in the faith of the Christian church. As our denomination expands globally, it is appropriate to identify not only our distinctives, but how our theology derives from Holy Scripture, and harmonizes with the church's tradition over two millennia, with human reason enlightened by the Holy Spirit, and with Christian experience. One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism: Essential Teaching for Faith Formation in the Church of the Nazarene, is just such an initiative. Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - Jn 15:1-8 - Jesus said to His disciples:“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit. You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you. Remain in Me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in Me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without Me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in Me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned. If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become My disciples.” Memorial of Saint Joseph the Worker Saint Joseph, pray for us! Main point: Before we behold Jesus in glory, we get to make him known through our unity
We remain united in our prayer for peace throughout our world, especially in those lands torn apart by war and violence. We also pray for peace in our own lives. That special gift is ours when we live in right relationship with ourselves and show gratitude for the precious gift of life with which God has blessed us, and stay strong in body, soul, and spirit. The Lord's peace is ours when we live in harmony with one another; let go of bitterness and anger; and treat one another as members of God's holy family. Peace is ours when we draw near to God; walk in his ways; follow his commands; and keep our spiritual lives as our highest priority. Live in right relationship with yourself, others, and God and then you will know the peace of the Lord.
Sermon by Dr. B.J. Hutto in 11 a.m. Sunday Worship at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida on October 29, 2023.
We are concluding our study of the fear of God this Sunday with a look at Proverbs 14:26 which says, "In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence..." Where do you draw your confidence from? How can the fear of the Lord give a person "strong confidence"? Consider the question posed to Job in Job 4:6, "Is not the fear of the Lord your confidence?"

One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism (Ephesians 4:1-6, Jan 8th 2023) by Sovereign Grace Church
This is Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington. Recently, many Americans devoted much time to make a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends. In just a few weeks, many will be preparing Christmas dinner. Think about what goes into holiday meals: likely hours of shopping for the right ingredients, then measuring, cutting and mixing, all to prepare the perfect experience for you and your guests. In this period of Advent, are you preparing spiritually to receive Jesus at Christmas? It is vitally important during this time to block out the noise and the clutter and to make room for another type of celebration. Sacred Scripture reminds us to “Prepare the way of the Lord”. It is this preparation that is far more important, far more meaningful and far more renewing than anything else we do!
This hour we take a look at one of the oldest Christian communities in the world being systematically threatened. We will talk about the history of the Armenian people and why Armenia needs to be protected. We then hear from a former Muslim who is now a Christian journalist who has some very real concerns about the slow but steady erosion of the right to free speech. Join us for a global discussion designed to help us think biblically and critically.
10.2.2022 | Pastor Gary Keller
These days, it can be challenging to look on the bright side. We see high prices; scarcity of items; weather forecasts that could predict a deluge or a drought. But Sacred Scripture reminds us that “The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord”, beginning with the precious gift of life itself. There is truth, beauty and goodness in the world all around us. It is in the foliage we see on a drive through the countryside, in the innocent laughter we hear on a playground, and in serenity of a quiet place. These are all part of God's magnificent creation and reflect His great love and care for us. So, take a moment and thank God for allowing His goodness to be present with us today in so many visible ways.
