Our skill segment focuses on two more common misperceptions for coaching youth volleyball. This segment follows up on a prior podcast we did, but this time we focus on the ideas that everything you do in practice should be relevant to what the athletes will do later in their high school volleyball experience (it does not need to be), and how being "positionless" in their youth volleyball experience can help them down the road (they should). Our scenario segment deals with an important topic for club coaches: when you want to get off to a fast start for a match. We all have those early morning matches, and often teams get off to a slow start and blame it on the team not be "awake". This segment goes into how to make sure that your team will be ready to go for their first match of the day! For our resource segment we share information about CoachUp, a coach finder app that allows anyone to find an individual coach for their needs. This resource gives athletes who do not have access to private coaching or who are not affiliated with a club, the ability to find and connect with a coach in their area. This is a great resource. If you are in the Los Angeles South Bay area you can find Coach Josh Cannon, an excellent beach volleyball coach, on the app and get started! Rancho San Pedro, part of Los Angeles areas in current day Palos Verdes peninsula, San Pedro, Torrance, Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach beach cities. Located south of LAX and north of Long Beach. I've begun studying this South Bay history, this is just a starting point of reference. But then I will attempt to go deeper into the history of the indigenous people from those regions. I also talk very briefly if some of the indigenous Native American current history I have come across in recent studies: CBC press conference about Turtle Island and Trudeau, San Marcos Reservation in San Bernardino and a NBC news story of a Riverside math teacher chanting around mocking indigenous culture while trying to teach students about SOH CAH TOA in trigonometry and geometry lessons. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Brad Shreve, author and host of the Gay Mystery Authors Podcast, joins me for a chat about his life, his entry into writing and the gay mystery genre, and his successful launch of his podcast. After growing up in Michigan and North Carolina, Brad crisscrossed the country while working in the hotel industry. In addition to working in hotels as a bellman, front desk clerk, and reservation call center director, he managed coffee houses, waited tables, sold potato chips off a truck, and even hawked pre-burial funeral plans. Brad was delighted when he discovered the gay mystery subgenre and the list of writers who inspired me to follow this more comfortable direction are too numerous to mention. Brad is a proud dad, beach bum, and coffee house squatter. He currently live in the Los Angeles South Bay with his husband, Maurice.

Empty Nest Syndrome on Dr. Carol Francis Talk Radio, August 30. Mothers and fathers who dedicated the last 18 plus years of moneys, marital bliss, prodding, laughing and sweating through parenting confusions launch their college students out of the house. Relief and parenting pride intermix with loss, depression and sense of “now what.” Dr. Carol Francis as a Clinical Psychologist has helped teens and parents successfully move to this day. Empty-Nesting is for real and Dr. Carol Francis for over 37 years has helped parents regroup after their household becomes quiet and their time is once again their own. Program is available on podcast and archived at this link as well on Dr. Carol Francis Talk Radio. The primary caretaker, still typically mothers, are the ones most suffering from this sense of loss. Empty Nesters feel depressed, frequently crying. Beyond the loss and this type of bereavement, Empty Nesters experience a type of existential crisis. This “now what” reflects a type of meaninglessness. “Effectively, raising children is all-consuming. Every minute become consumed raising the child by either doing, planning, thinking, worrying, helping, struggling, and losing sleep. Now, suddenly, those children are not dependent and not needing the daily demands, at least in the western world,” explains Dr. Carol Francis. “Unless the Empty Nester create sdynamically enjoyable and meaningful activities which replace the importance and time-consuming nature of parent, the Empty Nester is doomed to confusion, feeling impotent, unimportant, devalued; bottom line the parent feels completely empty,” describes Psychologist Dr. Carol Francis in Los Angeles South Bay area at 310-543-1824.
