However, a big misunderstanding about forgiveness is that once you forgive someone you have to reconcile with them even if they wronged or hurt you, but this is not necessarily the truth. Granting forgiveness serves as a benefit to your mental health, and it is perfectly okay to keep the memory of what happened to learn and create plans of self-protection for the future, while still letting go of the anger and hurt, which will help you to maintain your mental health. In this special episode of Emotions in Harmony, Dr. Carmen Román talks with the renowned expert on forgiveness, Dr. Fred Luskin, author and director of the Stanford Forgiveness Project. Together, they address the transformative power of forgiveness as a key tool to heal emotional wounds, improve relationships, and find inner peace. Forgiveness is not just an act toward others but a gift we give to ourselves. Throughout this episode, we explore: * What forgiveness really is—and what it is not. * Common myths about forgiveness that prevent us from moving forward. * The emotional, physical, and psychological benefits of practicing forgiveness. * How forgiveness helps us free ourselves from resentment and accumulated pain. What you will learn in this episode: * How to differentiate forgiveness from reconciliation. * Why forgiveness is essential for our mental health and well-being. DOWNLOAD YOUR FREE PDF HERE TO START DE-STRESSING YOUR LIFE! https://emotionsinharmony.ck.page/3be65c0248 How to know when love fades away in your marriage? How do you know when it is time to stay or leave a romantic relationship? Today we will talk about the fear of uncertainty and how to deal with your emotional pain when love is fading away in your relationship. And of course, I will give you some tips at the end of this episode to either reconnect in your relationship or recover from the emotional pain of separation. This is not to be confused with the daily hustle and bustle, especially when you have small children, with the numbness that brings high levels of stress or emotional detachment due to previous trauma. You may not hear or see the signs of love fading away because you are afraid of changing what is known, afraid of entering a new phase of your life, or the social, financial, and emotional changes that a separation brings. Nothing is more painful than a divorce, and yet, we pay little attention to what it takes to prevent it. If you are no longer in love with your partner, you may still care for them and wish them no harm. I have worked with couples who are in the process of divorce and care deeply for each other's well-being even if they are angry. They just may not know how to express their feelings properly. "Why would my love fade away?" You may ask. Well, today I'll be giving you the answer to this question, and we talk in depth about what to do if the love in your relationship ends, how to recover it, and in the opposite case, how to heal from a separation. Download your PDF to de-stress your life here!https://emotionsinharmony.ck.page/3be65c0248 Have you got frustrated when you present serious problems to your doctor and the only response is “this is because you have stress”? And you leave the office more confused than when you came in. It is true, the body can react in many different ways to high levels of stress, sometimes even resulting in very serious medical situations. It is incredible how our body experiences our emotions. Wait, before you also get frustrated here with me as well. I am here to tell you that you can do more for your health than you may think. Also, you can lower your stress levels in much simpler ways than you think. So let's begin, shall we? Last summer, I went to the doctor with a series of symptoms, mainly a particular headache. I am normally pretty healthy, but this was a chain of complaints, so I worried. As soon as I started talking with my doctor, she abruptly interrupted me and said “Stress, stress, stress!” The more I wanted to explain, the more she insisted. I was irritated by what I considered her lack of listening skills, so I got silent. Then she asked if I had been on a vacation recently. Yes, I said. To where? She asked, “to visit my family in Mexico”. Then she exclaimed with certainty: “Stress, stress, stress!” We both laughed. Then she finished the session, and I was left now considering her diagnosis. As a psychologist, I understand how unpleasant it can be when someone else brings to your attention your lack of emotion management and its consequences. The good thing is that, in this case, I know how to immediately start addressing my problem. But most of my clients do not believe when their doctor suggests that their emotions are the main cause of their physical symptoms. And most doctors do not do a great job of remarking the importance of talk therapy and other holistic healing approaches. So let's talk about it here. Yes, it may be true that you have physical symptoms that require medical care, and your doctor may lack the curiosity to investigate further. But also, it could be that you went too far when stretching yourself at the risk of damaging your body temporarily or sometimes permanently. Adverse situations, small or big, generate a chemical reaction in your body that, in small doses, requires just an adjustment. When it comes to big and frequent doses of stress, it changes your physiology, impacting your physical health, your thoughts, and of course, your behaviors. You may even have a logical answer like “it is because of my job, or the children, or only while I finish this project”. But the reality is that if your body is showing the consequences of stress, the “why” is less unimportant, and what matters more are the new habits you need to develop to counter these symptoms. The problem is that those changes sometimes are difficult to notice, and have an accumulative effect. Thus, by the time you feel them, it could be because you are in an emergency, and the way back to your well-being is paved with serious life changes. Thus, if your doctor tells you “Stress, stress, stress!” Before you run to google and search for more diagnoses, ask yourself the following questions: Have you had an ongoing emotionally challenging situation? Do you react as if your life depends on work, family, or any other tasks? Have you felt overwhelmed with what you consider small problems? Have you experienced fatigue, lack of energy, or difficulties sleeping? Are you moody, easily irritated, or less tolerant than usual? Do you get stuck in the past or the future, unable to live in the present? Those and other questions may help you realize it is time to seek talk therapy, along with consulting your physician for your very genuine concerns, to make sure that there are no other physical issues. Remember to consult with your psychologist. For now, I will leave with you some solutions that will help you to start caring for yourself immediately. 1. Be true to yourself and acknowledge when you are tired, accepting that you sometimes can't do it all, and that you need rest, is a big step into alleviating its consequences in your body. And of course, finding ways to rest for a couple of minutes at different times of the day can help you tremendously to reduce stress. 2. Explore ways to eat more healthily. Pay extra attention to what you eat, and explore ways to better your diet, eating well does not always mean eating luxuriously, it just means that you are being mindful of what your body needs and what could be potential harm, for example, the extra carbs and high-energy drinks, which are not going to help in the long term. 3. Practice better sleep hygiene so you can get a full night of sleep. Your sleep pattern and the quality of your rest are, along with your diet, one of the most important things to help you reduce stress. If you are not sleeping well, it means that your body is not getting the time to reset and rest, and therefore, you will be more tired, irritable, and fatigued during the day. Not sleeping properly also reduces your ability to manage stressful situations, possibly leading to difficulty finding a solution to those situations, and creating even more stress. 4. Seek mindfulness practices that will suit your needs and preferences. Not every practice works for everyone, this is why you need to take the time to explore your options and see what makes you feel the most comfortable and relaxed. Is it breathing exercises, journaling, meditation? Give them all a try, and keep your mind open while doing so, as even though they seem like simple tasks, they could help you change your entire life. 5. Get the amount of exercise your body needs. Know that when it comes to exercise, it doesn't necessarily mean to go to a gym and lift weights. It could be something that you enjoy that you know could get you a little bit sweaty, like maybe dancing, or Pilates, or maybe even walking. The point is that you enjoy what you're doing but also, to give your body that necessary stretch it needs, plus, you can add even more fun by inviting your friends, or taking your pets with you! Your dog is always happy to volunteer for counting steps, and will do it while waging their tail happily. And remember, what ever you do, do it for at least 20 minutes per day! 6. Delegate those responsibilities that you overtook at some point and are not yours. Your family or co-workers may not appreciate this, but they will be happier if you are less irritated. If you struggle to say no to an additional project, you can check out our episode “How to say No”, where we talk about the importance of only accepting projects and tasks that we can manage. 7. Stop to smell the roses. Or your cup of tea. Which means slowing down, breathing, and enjoying life as it is now. We currently live in such a fast-paced era, that we barely take some time to enjoy the mundane things of life, which can actually bring a lot of joy and relaxation by themselves. So, next time your doctor says stress, stress, stress! You are so prepared to laugh and, most importantly, do something about it. Let's stay connected! Depression is characterized by continuous feelings of sadness, hopelessness, irritability, having no motivation or interest in things, constantly not feeling in the mood to do things we used to love, difficulty making decisions, and not being able to perform tasks that we usually do on or daily basis. These symptoms are not necessarily limited only to being psychological but, depression can also manifest physical symptoms such as moving or speaking more slowly than usual, changes in appetite and even weight, unexplained aches, and pains, and lack of energy, in women the menstrual cycle could change, insomnia. But the thing is, that some symptoms of depression can also be present when it comes to "normal sadness". So how can we differentiate them? In this episode, Dr. Carmen will walk us through the differences between depression and sadness, how depression affects your brain and body, and what kind of treatments are available to help you or any of your loved ones to recover. Could you be depressed or are you just feeling sad? Sadness is a normal part of life, and everybody experiences this emotion in multiple stages of their life. However, nowadays, the term "depression" can be heard throughout society and social media as a common synonym for being sad. The common use of this term has made some people believe the misconception that depression is something that can come and go quickly and that people can get over it in the span of a few days. It is extremely important to understand that there are differences between being sad because of a difficult situation or traumatic event that we have been through for a short period of time and depression symptoms. Depression is characterized by continuous feelings of sadness, hopelessness, irritability, having no motivation or interest in things, constantly not feeling in the mood to do things we used to love, difficulty making decisions, and not being able to perform tasks that we usually do on or daily basis. The depression symptoms are not necessarily limited only to psychological symptoms but physical symptoms such as moving or speaking more slowly than usual, changes in appetite and even weight, unexplained aches, and pains, and lack of energy, in women the menstrual cycle could change, insomnia. But the thing is, that some symptoms of depression can also be present when it comes to "normal sadness". So how can we differentiate them? In this episode, Dr. Carmen talks about how we can differentiate depression from sadness, walking us through the symptoms of depression and giving us a thorough explanation of how it is diagnosed. Relationships are like little growing plants, we need to water them every day, treat them carefully, and keep a close eye on what works and what doesn't. One of the things that will always help a relationship to thrive is trust, the ability to trust each other and to have the liberty of being able to communicate openly in your relationship is key to solving any difficulty that may arise. The better the communication in your relationship, the more it will thrive. However, being communicative is not the only big key for a relationship to work. Being a good listener, and understanding your partner's needs is just as important as being communicative and trustworthy in a relationship. In this episode, Dr. Carmen talks about the different factors that make a relationship a long-lasting one, and how you can practice those good habits with your partner to start your journey to a healthy, thriving relationship. Going to couples therapy can sound scary and even dramatic or over the top for some couples, but the reality is that seeking help from a professional when experiencing a bump in the relationship - even when it might seem like a small one - is a healthy and responsible way of coping with the situation. When undergoing therapy as a couple, the therapist will focus on the couple's needs as a team, helping them to develop better conversational and problem-solving skills, this helps them to better understand what troubles each other, and to create a solution or plan to alleviate the situation, thus helping them to reach their goals as a couple. A common misconception about couple therapy is believing that this treatment only applies to married couples and that you only need to seek therapy when the relationship is falling apart. Couples therapy can be perfectly fitting for any stage of a relationship, and it's not a must to have a problem to start the process, this type of treatment can also help with planning for the overall future as a couple. In this episode, Dr. Carmen talks about when is the right time to go to couples therapy, how long the treatment should last and how to choose the right therapist for you. Although it may seem otherwise, our relationship with money is more emotional than we would like to accept. Just like how we are emotionally attached to different objects that we own, our relationship with money will most likely always have some level of emotional attachment, and it depends on us whether those emotions related to our money are positive or negative. Having a good relationship with money is just as important as having a good relationship with any loved person in our lives. However, when talking about money, most people will recoil from the topic or have some bad comment about it. Those bad thoughts or comments related to money may come from the beliefs formed around childhood, that tell us "money is bad", "money turns people bad", or even "Money is just not for us". Money beliefs created during our childhood will most likely accompany us until early adulthood, and it can be difficult to remove them from our minds, especially if those beliefs were reinforced by seeing or having difficulties related to money while growing up, making us link money with only bad emotions and thus, making us take bad financial decisions; which will in time create emotional distress in our life. However, it is not impossible to remove those beliefs from our lives and start our relationship with money afresh. In this episode, Dr. Carmen talks about how money beliefs affect our financial life, making us create a bad aura around money and maintain a scarcity state of mind. She will also share a few tips on how to change your relationship with money to a positive one, that will potentially help you get to a healthier emotional state of mind. We usually hear the phrase "To gain someone's trust we need several actions, but to lose it with a single one is enough". Trust is a very valuable factor in any solid relationship, be it friendship, family, and/or romantic relationships. The being reliable can generate a good perspective in others, and they can add or see other attributes in you, such as being respectable, faithful, loyal, and honest. Being reliable is an important virtue in many aspects of life, not only in our relationships but also in our day-to-day lives, it happens without realizing it with people who do not even want to form a lasting relationship. An example of this is when we are going to make an important purchase and go to several stores, no matter how much better the price of the product is in a store, if the seller does not inspire trust and transparency while offering the product, you will not care paying more for the same product at another store just because that other seller gained your trust. Being reliable in the workplace also plays a fundamental role, from the owner of a company to the newest worker, since there is a chain of trust deposited in a bidirectional way, from top to bottom where bosses wait for the fulfillment of the tasks of its employees and where the workers, in turn, expect compensation for these tasks and responsibilities stored in them, either in terms of salary or on merits to promote positions. Having relationships of high trust increases our quality of life, knowing that there is a certain commitment to do as promised brings us peace of mind, which gives us the freedom to take care of other things that do deserve our attention. In this episode, Dr. Carmen talks about the importance of being reliable both in your personal and professional life, and how to gain the trust of others with reliability. Every day we are presented with various situations to which we must look for different ways to deal with them. Day after day we see new products come onto the market, thousands of digital applications and innovative things that we probably didn't even imagine could be sold, with which we are increasingly being required as a society to do new things to stand out from the crowd, but a problem that we all experience at any time and aspect of our life is the frustration of being able to create, imagine or be inspired by something to be able to materialize all the talent we have in a specific job or project. Many industries are automated and more and more human resources are less required, so the few vacancies are more fought among the most qualified people for that work. However, there is a very important factor that has not yet been able to be represented by a machine, and that is the virtue of creativity. If we are talking about a design, marketing, or similar job profile, the applicant's adaptive creativity is one of the most important things when choosing the position. If we talk about other professional careers, perhaps it is not the most relevant, but the inventiveness to solve situations using their creativity is well taken into account. But creativity is not only used in the work area, but it is also applied in any aspect of our life, and it is very useful for us to solve situations in different ways, and even with small things that can make a difference, an example of this is when a mother looks for ways to prepare the most provocative food when her son does not like vegetables or when a person surprises his partner with some different detail. Creativity is our friend, so it is essential that we work on it and develop it. Join Dr. Carmen in this episode to boost your creativity with these 10 habits that you can implement in your life to stay inspired and find your muse. How important can a laugh be? There are many factors that we must take into consideration when taking care of our mental and emotional health, such as following a balanced diet, having a morning routine, physical activity, etc. However, occasionally, we talk about an important natural factor that can help us regulate our mood, and that is our laughter. Surely you have already heard of "Laughter therapy". To back up this therapy, there have been several studies done, and it has been determined that laughter is a healing gift for human beings, this is why we also encounter many programs where a group of people goes to hospitals dressed as clowns or movie characters to make children smile and lift their spirits. Usually, we all know a person with a different vibe that is always laughing, transmits their joy to everyone around them and that just their presence lifts everyone's mood. Now, I want you to think of that person whom you know and try to count the times this person has been sick this you've met them... this person probably tends to get less sick than the rest, and this is due to what is called the mind-body connection. Laughter also has its chemical reactions in our brain which help the organs of the body such as the heart, to strengthen the immune system and other benefits on an emotional level such as pain management and stress reduction. It may sound a bit illogical, but during difficult moments in our lives, something as simple as laughing can be very helpful and the spark that ignites the attitude to stop thinking about the problem and focus on the solutions. If you have a hard time smiling and laughing, then don't wait any longer, go listen to this fabulous episode! Life has many ups and downs, and we all have to go through them. Difficult situations are one of those things that sometimes we can't avoid, a situation in which we feel that we have lost our way, and we have a perception in which we believe that we are "victims of the circumstances ”. These events can be as inevitable as the loss of a loved one or a pet, difficult financial times, a love breakup, and even the loss of a job or the disapproval of a school subject. When we go through these situations, it is normal to want to throw everything down the drain and think things like “I have come this far, but I can't take it anymore”, to have feelings of sadness and frustration mixed with the stress that they can generate and can even paralyze us, minimizing our capacity for action. However, at these times is when it is essential to apply all our resilience and put into practice all the tools that we have acquired up to that moment to face these difficulties. While it is true that when we go through these hard situations we think that life is against us and that there is nothing left to do, we have to remember that life is about living experiences and learning from them, showing what we're made of and keep pushing forward as many times as necessary. In these cases, instead of victimizing ourselves, we should encourage ourselves with the conviction that we are going to overcome the inconveniences that arise, it is always good to bring to mind positive thoughts such as “if this situation comes to my life, it is because I can handle it.”, that way we can minimize the problem and increase optimism, until finally when the storm is gone we realize that we are stronger and better than before, everything happens for a reason, and we must learn from it. When we are born, we come with very little information and essential skills to overcome the first stage of our lives, however, with time we start developing new skills and acquire new capabilities. Like responsibility, discipline, respect, and even self-confidence; without realizing it, we learn multiple things since we are children, an example is when we start riding a bicycle, we start with the training wheels, then when we gain confidence we take away one little wheel to gain balance until we end up removing both, and we start with the practice of trial and error, falling and getting up again and again with the perception of the self-confidence that we place in ourselves that we can achieve it until we finally achieve our goal. When we were little, even if no one had mentioned the word self-confidence to us, we were going to work on it because it is a normal instinct, as we saw in the previous example. Not believing in ourselves will lead us to a demotivating and anxiety-filled life, one that can take our biggest dreams and goals from us. One way to visualize it would be to imagine a balance and place at one of its extremes all those opportunities and moments that we have forbidden ourselves from living due to the insecurity we feel and the fear of facing a new experience. The reality of life is that it constantly puts us to the test, day after day situations are always presented to us where we are forced to face it and that is when the self-confidence that we have should come out. There may be several reasons why we may feel insecure about ourselves, but you should know that there are also many benefits that we can obtain if we regain confidence, so if you want to know how and why to recover and maintain your self-confidence, you cannot miss this episode! We currently live in an era where technology is evolving rapidly, we now have the pressure of feeling like we should check what is going on with our friends and in the world almost every minute, but the reality is that we do not have the time or energy to take all that information in at the same time. On many occasions, these events that distract us, such as television with its series and news, the telephone with its social networks, and sometimes even people, separate us from our goals and desires. Today, focusing on our goals has perhaps become a little more difficult given all the obstacles that lie ahead, but it is still essential to succeed in life. Being able to focus is an important skill that allows us to be present on the path that we must take to achieve our goals, regardless of all the factors that may distract us from them. If we are undisciplined at the beginning, it can take a lot of work not to lose our way. A solution to this is to set small goals that lead us to the main one, hand in hand with motivation or a reward system that allows us to have a moment of rest, but at the same time feel the satisfaction of having achieved a step and being rewarded for it. Concentration is a very powerful tool that can be associated with the law of attraction, since whenever a thought is present, our brain and our energies will revolve around it until it is fulfilled, for this same reason, we can see that when a person focus on a problem that can have a hard time getting out of it, instead of looking at possible solutions and focusing on them. There is a range of solutions to open our minds and achieve the focus we need in life to achieve what we want. If you want to know those barriers that we unconsciously place ourselves and how to learn to focus, then this is the episode for you! The phrase "to love someone else, you must first love yourself" is a very popular and truthful one. Love and friendship are very important factors for human beings, sometimes feeling part of something becomes an instinct, and we are looking for communities with which to identify ourselves or people who share our own interests so we can finally, develop a friendship or even a romance. However, it is also true that a vast majority of people have experienced disappointments regarding friendships and from then on they are afraid of making new friends. However, despite the circumstances and people around us, you should know that there will always be a friendship that is for life and that is willing to not fail you, that friendship is the one we have with ourselves. We always try to be good friends with each other, but how good are you to yourself? A friend is there to celebrate your triumphs, but at the same time to support and advise you in failures, the fact that you can count on your own friendship allows you to be understanding with yourself, it allows us to give ourselves the space to be with our own ourselves and be reflective about our actions. When we work on our own friendship we can acquire self-confidence and start feeling proud of ourselves, knowing that we are capable of achieving whatever we put our mind into. By doing our internal work, creating a healthy relationship, and enjoy our own company, we are working on getting the best version of ourselves, which will lead to many positive things for us. Often we find ourselves in situations where we want to do things or make decisions, but we run into uncertainty and fear of taking action and not taking action. This has to do with the lack of self-confidence we have, where sometimes an external motivation is required to achieve what we want. Confidence in ourselves makes us feel like we are capable of achieving whatever we set our mind to. To be able to feel capable of doing something is a thing that develops from our childhood to adulthood. When we set a goal and go after it, we gain confidence and believe in ourselves until we reach the point where we do not doubt it and simply carry out the plans. But... What happens when we do not feel capable of achieving what we set out to do? We don't take action due to a self-perception issue, we unconsciously think that we are going to fail, and in a series of negative thoughts that perhaps many times are also fed by other people until finally, we program ourselves to think that we really cannot carry out a certain activity. If sometimes you feel like you are not capable of achieving your goals, and you want to learn and develop skills and generate self-confidence to improve your life, then this episode is for you! Sometimes we come across situations in which we question the things we have achieved, for example when we go to a job interview, and they ask us questions such as "Tell me 5 positive things about yourself" or "Tell me about the great things you have achieved", that's when we may notice that perhaps it can be easier for us to identify our defects than to identify our virtues or mention the achievements we have obtained in lives. And this is not necessarily because of a matter of sorrow or forgetfulness but because we usually don't have in mind the meritorious things we have achieved, and sometimes we don't even feel pride for the good things that we've done. Having our achievements in mind and feeling happy about them is key to maintain our self-esteem at a healthy level since those are a fundamental part of what defines us as a person. Personal achievements can have different meanings for each person and do not necessarily have to be material, such as buying a house after a lot of effort or pay for your children's university, apart from these very pleasant things, an achievement can also be something intangible to the sense of touch but very real in our change and internal satisfaction, and perhaps we can think that it is something small, but it fills our soul. An example of this could be when we tried for years to make our grandmother's recipe, and we could not get it to turn out the same but with many attempts, practice, and learning from mistakes, we finally get it, it seems something simple but without a doubt, it is an act that fills us with great pride once achieved. In this episode, Dr. Carmen talks about how important it is to feel proud of your own accomplishments, and how recognizing even the smallest ones can be of great benefit to your mental health. Flexibility is a concept that is applied in various fields, although people tend to think about gymnasts or ballerinas when hearing this word, in the psychological field it's oriented to the mental and cognitive part of a human being. It is very common to hear phrases like "you should be more flexible at times like these" but... what does it mean to be mentally flexible, and how can you achieve it? Being a flexible person means having the ability to adapt in the best way to the various situations that we may go through, many times being flexible leads to other things such as having a good attitude and an open mind to accept, respect, and understand others views and opinions. Flexibility is a good ally since by allowing ourselves to listen to others with ideas other than our own we can acquire new learnings, and if we use flexibility as a tool, we can open our mind to a circumstance or problem and try endless options to solve it. Inflexible people are characterized by resisting change, it takes them a lot of effort to get out of their idea or thought and a simple change of plans can be very uncomfortable, causing them annoyance and anger, they have a hard time listening to the options that other people can offer and prioritize their ideas as the only and best possible option, refusing to appreciate other points of view. These people can become very radical, so much to the point of thinking that those who are not in their favor are against them and not only this, but it is also an arduous task to forgive and accept their mistakes, which can lead to more complex internal situations such as feeling depressed because they do not feel understood and that others are against them. Going from being an inflexible person to a flexible and understanding person is possible through practice and personal development techniques. Today, Dr. Carmen Román will be talking about how being flexible in life can bring new opportunities to your life. Join us! People tend to say that "to remember is to live", it is certainly very nice to think about those pleasant situations that we lived in our childhood or a few years ago, and it's very common to sit with our friends and family to relive those precious moments. It is normal that we turn to the past to remember who we are and where we came from, however, thinking way too much about the past can prevent us from living in the present. One of the factors to which we must pay attention is when our thinking resorts to the use of phrases such as "I should have done ...". To be able to live in the present we must know that not only does the past affect us, the future also pressures us to live at a different pace, our minds can go to thoughts such as "I have to pay the bills for next month", "What will my boss think of the project that I will present to him?", These thoughts add additional pressure to us that is sometimes not necessary and end up leading us to erroneous conclusions such as "I will be happy when I manage to retire from work", making these assumptions is a serious mistake because we condition our happiness to a single event that we’re not sure will happen. By thinking in this way we fail to realize that we spend years longing for something that we do not know if it will really give us happiness instead of enjoying the process until we reach the goal. In this episode, Dr. Carmen talks about how we can keep our minds in the present, teaching us techniques that can help us concentrate on what’s happening now without the past or the future invading our present. Most people have suffered a romantic breakup at least once in their life, a part of these people can quickly recover from that situation, start another relationship again and do much better, but there is another part that finds it difficult to meet new people and get into a romantic relationship after suffering a heartbreak. This happens because they are afraid of being hurt or betrayed again, and it is normal to feel fear since they have associated that falling in love can lead to suffering, and feeling fear makes our body stay alert to any activity that may unbalance our tranquility. To overcome this and be able to allow yourself to build a new relationship, it is important to avoid regretting what happened and to pause and reflect on the extent to which we have been responsible for that breakup and in what we have contributed, even if it may sound very harsh. All this to improve the necessary aspects and thus obtain better results. If we do not do the personal work, we would fall into immature cycles in the next relationships or take an unconsciously repressed attitude, for example, thinking that if less effort is invested in a relationship, then we will be safe from the heartbreak. In those moments you may not be comfortable with loneliness, but you won't feel comfortable in a relationship either, remember that being alone is not bad, on the contrary, sometimes it is necessary and at the same time it is a strength to know how to live with yourself so that later you can be ready to share yourself. In this episode, Dr. Carmen will be talking with Psychotherapist Rocío Gutiérrez, who will tell us about why it can be scary to fall in love again, why it is important to work on ourselves before starting a new relationship, the components of fear, and how to know how to choose the adequate person for you. Frequently we hear the phrase "listen to your intuition" but... do we really know the meaning of this word? Intuition refers to that ability with which we can reach correct conclusions from little information in a short time. They are those decisions that we take with the heart, not with judgment, that is why we also call it "hunch". We could be applying our intuition in daily situations, and sometimes we do it unconsciously since intuition is based on previous knowledge that we obtained during different experiences lived, and our brain stores them to use it as future problem-solving skills. An example of this could be the day-to-day tasks of a mechanic, every time they check a vehicle they know what could be failing and discover solutions, storing that knowledge in their memory; after a few months, another vehicle may come with a similar breakdown and only by hearing the sounds the vehicle makes they take risks giving a diagnosis and a possible solution because their intuition tells them that the past case can be repeated. Sometimes the absolute truth puts our intuition aside, but our intuition is a gift that we should always keep in mind and work on it, so if you want to know how to develop your intuition and listen to your inner voice, you cannot miss this episode of the Resilience series, where Dr. Carmen Román will be talking about this wonderful topic. In our families, especially in Latino families, there is an almost imperceptible factor, since it is not a widely spoken concept, and it is emotional neglect during childhood, this is nothing more than the wrong way to proceed with emotional patterns from parents to children, where the young ones may begin to experience psychological and emotional damage in their present and that may leave consequences for their future. Unlike violence and abuse, which are directed in a greater proportion to the physical part, emotional neglect attacks the emotional and psychological side of the kid, this refers to that lack of connection between the father/mother towards the needs of the child, it is oriented in many cases towards omission and for this reason, sometimes it becomes imperceptible even for the same victim already in adulthood to identify if they suffered it. A very clear example of this concept is the differentiation of roles between the genders of the girl and the boy, and it can happen when they say to the male brother "you are the man of the house, and you have to take care of ...", the child can perceive this from a young age as his responsibility, and he tends to feel the obligation to exercise greater authority, sometimes even more than the mother herself. The same happens for girls when parents guide them to the path of submission where others are always to be put first and after tending to others, she can tend to herself. It is important to clarify that parents or adults involved in raising children do not necessarily have to have bad intentions or be classified as bad for stuff like this to happen, children do not come with a manual for parents, otherwise, there wouldn't be schools for parents. So parents, especially if they are first-time parents, do what they can and in most cases these behaviors and teaching or parenting methods are intergenerational inheritances, breaking these patterns is not so fast or easy. These forms of parenting bring with them many problems for the adult stage in these children, that is why we find people with problems expressing their feelings due to repression, which leads to problems in romantic relationships, they also lack maternal love, they have childish attitudes, low self-esteem, and many fears. Fortunately, there are ways to overcome it, that is why today Dr. Carmen brings you this valuable conversation with Karen Conlon, LCSW. To serve as a guide for you to explore your childhood, if it were your case, and you know what can be done about it to face it. Join us!
