Dr. Marta Recio Rodriguez is a specialist in sexology and regenerative gynecology, with a clinical and academic focus on women's sexual health, anatomy, and wellness.  Her work explores the intersection between medical science, psychology, and the cultural narratives that have historically shaped — and often silenced — the conversation around female pleasure. This empowering book blends history, storytelling, and culturally grounded techniques to equip readers with the tools needed to promote self-reflection, personal growth, and diasporic healing. Asian Americans represent the fastest growing ethnic group in the United States, yet few books capture how historical events, immigration experiences, cultural values, and unhelpful generational patterns contribute to this group's thoughts, attitudes, and actions in ways that impact relationships, well-being, and psychological health. In Patterns That Remain: A Guide to Healing for Asian Children of Immigrants (Oxford University Press, 2025), Dr. Stacey Diane Arañez Litam empowers readers to heal from diasporic wounds and become people, partners, and parents who embody abundance mentalities grounded in joy, balance, and gratitude. This unique book combines complex and nuanced facets of Asian American history, research, and therapeutic modalities in ways that validate Asian American worldviews and promote a deep sense of universality and community. Each chapter addresses culturally relevant topics among Asian Americans and children of Asian immigrants and is informed by academic research in addition to author-conducted interviews with diverse Asian American community members and thought leaders. The book effortlessly blends history, storytelling, and culturally grounded perspectives to provide an inspirational, validating, and practical framework toward healing. Informed by Litam's lived experiences as a Filipina and Chinese immigrant as well as by her professional identities as a professor, researcher, and mental health clinician, Patterns That Remain provides the foundation for timely conversations and centers the importance of healing, personal growth, and unlocking the power behind our stories. Over 90% of the population has a form of autoimmune disease and inflammation. Several autoimmune diseases, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, myasthenia gravis, and multiple sclerosis, afflict women anywhere from two to 10 times more often than they do men. Naketa, your background is impressive. Please introduce yourself to our audience.Thank you, Sharon. My background is indeed layered, covering human behavior and relationships. I have degrees in psychology, sociology, anthropology, and clinical social work, specializing in TFCBT and DBT. My focus is on understanding why people behave the way they do and the impact on their ecosystem—partners, children, elders, siblings, and colleagues. At Big Pearl Balance and Relationship Management Institute, we help individuals self-actualize, ensuring they ripple the good and healed parts, not the hurt.Stronger families are the result of this work. How did you get into this field?I come from a non-strong family. I've experienced every type of big T trauma imaginable, from sexual abuse to domestic violence. My father has been in and out of jail since I was 15, and both my parents have struggled with substance abuse. Learning became my escape and source of validation. I delved into psychology to understand our behaviors and how I could help heal. My journey into understanding generational trauma led me to study epigenetics, revealing that trauma impacts everything from sexual desires to parenting.Talking about generational trauma, where do we begin unpacking it?Trauma is universal. There's cultural-specific trauma, and it's in our genes, impacting us for generations. Awareness is the first step. You need a safe place to unpack it and acknowledge that trauma can coexist with beautiful work. Trauma lives in the body, so our awareness and processing of it in the present are crucial.Tell us about your book, "Selfish.""Selfish" is my survivor memoir and personal transformation story. It took over eight years to write, detailing my experiences, early scripting from my parents' actions and inactions, and how choosing to be selfish saved my life.About Naketa:Naketa Ren Thigpen is formerly trained as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, who is now a  Psychotherapist, Trauma Specialist, Sexology and Relationship expert with strategically infused tenets of coaching to set a new bar and create ripples inside the personal development industry.  Naketa is also the CEO of Thigpro. Personal relationships influence business success. From the bedroom to the boardroom, creating an environment that supports and nurtures both personal and professional relationships is crucial for success in business. Personal relationships have a significant impact on business trajectories. Discover how to manage these influences for greater entrepreneurial success. The Importance of Relationships from the Bedroom to the Boardroom Recent statistics show that a significant portion of people who experience divorce remarry, driven by an inherent need for connection and security. This insight underscores the human desire for meaningful relationships that impact various facets of life, including business. Healthy relationships bolster mental and emotional well-being, which are critical components for achieving professional success. Integrating Personal and Professional Relationships Personal and professional relationships are intertwined, each influencing the other. Business success often stems from the ability to manage and nurture personal relationships effectively. For instance, setting healthy boundaries and fostering an environment of mutual respect at home can translate to improved business dynamics and leadership skills. Communication and Vulnerability form the Bedroom to the Boardroom Open communication and vulnerability are cornerstones of strong relationships. Expressing wants, needs, and desires clearly and honestly fosters trust and intimacy from the bedroom to the boardroom. Communicating effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders is critical in business. Establishing a personal brand and sharing one's unique skills require a level of vulnerability similar to that in intimate relationships. Therefore, honing these skills in personal settings can significantly enhance professional interactions and build stronger, more trusting business relationships. Addressing Social Disconnection Women, in particular, often have a network of friends who fulfill various emotional roles. These friendships are vital, but when they overshadow the role of a partner, it can lead to a sense of disconnection within the primary relationship. Recognizing how platonic relationships affect intimacy with a partner is essential. By addressing and repositioning these dynamics thoughtfully, women can improve their personal relationships and, in turn, their professional lives.
