Hello, I'm Michelle! Born and raised in Northern Indiana. All my life I have loved photography and babies. I gained most of my hands on experience as a nursing assistant in an Amish Birthing Center. Over 16 years ago I documented my first birth! Where I went in just as a support person and took my camera with me. My photography business took off 8 years ago and I have never looked back. I have a wonderful birth community here who support the work I do as a photographer. I truly believe an image says a thousand words. An image can heal a broken heart, evoke an emotion, bring us back to a moment, and fill a void we may not have known existed. Through my doula work, I am able to work alongside birthing people and help bring awareness to the birth process. I aim to aide birthing families in a better birth experience, all while capturing their journey as it unfolds. My goal is to capture raw emotion, and moments that we may not even realize happened during birth. I want those fleeting moments captured for you to share your birth with others. In this interview we spend time exploring the Enneagram & Yoga with Michelle Dunn-Loveless. She is a recovering rebel with an outlaw spirit, your typical Enneagram 8 who lived life in the fast lane and has been cultivating growth towards her inner two since the birth of her darling daughters. This passion to leave an imprint on the world led Michelle into teaching where she taught in the public schools for over ten years. A life-long learner and educator, Michelle earned her masters in education, a 200-hour yoga certification, and most recently a 500-hour certification specializing in Kundalini Yoga. She teaches paddle board yoga with Outshine Adventures, Yin + Meditation and Kundalini Yoga at Yoga landing. Not only does Michelle teach, she and her wife own Outshine Adventures: Eco Tours + Travel to inspire others to adventure differently. Full-time, Michelle works as an educator at a local nonprofit that removes barriers to birth control by providing education, outreach, and access to free birth control - proving to the world she can do it all! Here are some of the questions we asked Michelle of you want to spend time meditating on them. 1) What does being bold mean to you? 2) How challenging is it to let your walls down? 3) Do you resist being vulnerable because vulnerability equals weakness? 4) Oftentimes, passion and intensity of 8's is wrongly perceived as aggressive and controlling. How do you deal with this misconception, especially as a woman? 5) Advocacy, fairness, honesty, authenticity are just few things that are very important to an 8. What area of life would you like to leave the most impact in? 6) Oftentimes, 8's struggle with asking for help. When was the last time you asked for help? What was it for? How did it make you feel? 7) Sometimes 8's struggle with showing emotion out of fear of being weak. When was the last time you got really emotional? What was it about? 8) Enneagram 8s struggle with vulnerability. What are some emotions that you wish you had expressed to others in the past, but have been too afraid to? 9)Enneagram 8's are known for loving the intensity of a good argument and like a 1 they can be prone to black and white thinking when they argue. Is this true for you and if so how do you tone down the intensity in an argument and also the need to be right? 10) The arrow of growth for the Enneagram 8 is the two and so 8's benefit from softening their hearts. What yoga pose opens up your heart and moves you from being a bear to a teddy bear? 11) The deadly passion of the Enneagram 8 is lust. This lust is necessarily sexual and can most often be defined as a lust for power and control. How has the Enneagram helped you to let go of power and control and be more collaborative? 12) The needed childhood message of the 8 is you will be protected or you will not be betrayed. Were either if those messages ones you could have heard more of as a child or even as an adult? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/christy001/support

Porn - this little word carries a heavy load of shame for some or maybe guilt for others. What about when you find out your child has been viewing porn? Our offering for you is today is 10 Tips to help you navigate the path forward when you discover your child has been viewing porn. Michelle Dunn - a Regeneration Team member and Therapist - joins Josh on the podcast to help us walk with our kids, not just as moms and dads, but also as allies in the world of sexuality.Everything we’re talking about on this episode HINGES on the relationship you have with your teen. Our hope is that we can take shame out of the conversation around porn. Don’t let the accusing voices in your head be louder than your child's voice. Pay attention, a pornography problem is usually a symptom of a deeper problem rather than the core problem itself. Listen in as Michelle and Josh coach us through adjusting our posture to be less fearful and more approachable. We pray this episode serves you as a guide so you can have difficult conversations in love and peace.Highlight:when somebody’s feeling shame it is not going to make the problem go away. In fact, it will almost draw the individual to the problematic behavior as a way of coping. It’s helpful for parents to accept reality, adjust your expectations, and not be afraid to be where you areGet curious. How did we end up here? And again, it’s not for the purpose of shaming. That’s not the reason we want to do it but we want to be curious.Homework:10 TIPS FOR PARENTS:1. ASK FOR HELP for yourself! Reach out to allies, friends, counselors, your pastor, so you can release.2. ACKNOWLEDGE the current relationship you have with your teen - great trust? Solid bond? Distant?3. ADDRESS the porn directly.4. AFFIRM honesty even when it feels like bad news.5. AVOID shame at all costs.6. ASK QUESTIONS and teach your kid to get curious too.7. ADJUST your lifestyle to respond to what you find out.8. ADDRESS your son's or daughter's overall health.9. ASSUME that even kids who want to stop may still struggle.10. ASK FOR HELP FOR YOUR CHILDFind a moment of privacy and with confidence directly address your child and the issue - be direct, tell them what you know.Be Aware: When or where are you tempted to look? What time of day? - the questions create boundaries to help your son or daughter to relieve temptationTreat the situation like a Fact-finding Mission or a Private investigation - be looking for clues NOT evidence to indict your son or daughter. If you and your child discover there’s a pattern or trigger, what can you adjust together?Where might your child need to learn to take better care of themselves emotionally, physically, spiritually, schedule?Transcription:Full Transcription Available hereOriginal music by Shannon Smith. Parents need to push past the anticipated eye roll or angsty attitude to keep connecting. The big kids are not the only ones who need to learn how to do things differently. Parents need to shift and grow too.As you’ll learn in this episode, there’s more power in parenting from a place of relationship versus a place of dictatorship. Learn how to develop a real connection with your teenager. Listen for words like margin and agenda and comparison. Take it all in. You’ve got this.Highlights:Our kids are going to hear and get information from sources other than usIf we don’t have that relationship with them we miss out on the opportunity to influenceIf we’re only coming to our kids where we want to mold, shape, change their thinking and their behaviors; they’re going to be fatigued by thatHomework:Make Margin (room) in your day to talk with your teen about the difficult things. Don’t let fatigue keep you from engaging with your teen.Try having a conversation without an Agenda.Deal with your past: address your own sexual dysfunction, get help, don’t panic/freeze/avoidHow am I wired? How is my kid wired? What are we good at? Use that as your framework to move forward in building a relationship FREE of comparison. Be you and let your kid be him/herself.Outsource: Encourage them to connect with other peopleIdeal v reality: media, peers, family give us a picture of what it looks like to interact with our teens. Try not to be tricked into thinking that it’s always good and it’s supposed to look a certain way.Extras/Resources:https://www.regenerationministries.org/pg/Transcription:Full Transcription Available hereOriginal music by Shannon Smith. Michelle Dunn and Larry Harris make an unlikely team. Dunn is an autism researcher and Harris was an offensive lineman for the Houston Oilers – and is now an opera singer. They met at a church choir in New York. Between sessions at the church they got to talking about Dunn’s work at the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Autism and Communication Disorders. She works with patients who are bright and high-functioning, but often struggle to speak and communicate in an effective tone and cadence. “They speak in a very disfluent way or their voice sounds really unusual and people shut them down right away,” she said. Michelle Dunn and Larry Harris developed a new technique to help people with autism communicate. (Meghan Cunnane ) When Larry Harris heard about Dunn’s struggle with her patients’ speech, he was intrigued, and offered to help – using his opera training and his athlete’s background. Together they created lesson plans for the patients that incorporated training vocal cords and breath, which forces a person to stop and organize their thoughts. “My brain just kicks into this place where I want to help them,” Harris said. “It’s exciting.” Dunn had been working for many years with a patient named Devon* who was prone to repeating himself or fixating on a topic while speaking. But she and Harris started to focus on the new technique, and after just five months, they noticed great improvement in Devon’s speech. The quickest improvement Dunn had ever seen. “I’ve been learning to take calming breaths and breathe pause,” Devon said. “I come across to people more normally.” It’s been two years now since Dunn and Harris started their new technique, which they’ve chronicled in a guide called The Music of Speech. Autism manifests in people very differently, so Dunn and Harris’s approach may not work for everyone on the autism spectrum. But they’ve worked successfully with ten patients so far. Dunn and Harris found a new way to work with people on the autism spectrum. (Meghan Cunnane ) Dunn says their work is not just about training people to speak a certain way to fit in, it’s about helping them feel comfortable enough to live their lives in society at large. So instead of getting shut down in the first conversation, Devon and others with autism can have a second, third or fourth conversation where they can maybe let go. “It makes people care about me more, it makes people value what I have to say more,” Devon said. *Devon’s name was changed to protect his privacy.
