Jer & Frank review what is possibly the most divisive film in the entire Ghostbusters franchise. Will they dislike this femme-filled reboot like seemingly the rest of the masses, or will they find it so charming that they can't justify such uniformed hatred?

It's time to move into our third week of GHOSTBUSTERS MONTH as we go over the divisive female reboot that is Ghostbusters from 2016. Is this movie really as bad as people say it is? What do we make of the four leads? How funny is this movie? How many plot holes are in this movie? Do we really care that much about soup? Should Chris Hemsworth just stick to comedies moving forward? How forgettable is the villain? Would we like to wear a wig with Kristen Wiig? What do we think of the cameos? Why is the music not that bad? Why doesn't Ben know who Andy Garcia is? And why are we also getting hate for doing this episode? The new trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire dropped today, and it's the #3 trending video on YouTube. Weirdly, the media has all but stopped talking about Ghostbusters 2016 in relation to the new Jason Reitman films. But it was ALL they could talk about leading up to Afterlife. So what changed? ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 ➡️ Gaming News: https://open.spotify.com/show/0A7VIqE3r5MQkFgL9nifNc Additional Context: "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," the latest addition to the iconic Ghostbusters franchise, has just released its new trailer, causing quite a stir in the entertainment world. This film follows the Spengler family as they return to New York City, joining forces with the original Ghostbusters who have established a top-secret research lab to advance their ghost-busting technology. Together, they face an "unimaginable evil commanding an army of ghosts," threatening to plunge the world into a second Ice Age. Directed by Gil Kenan and co-written by Jason Reitman, who also directed "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," "Frozen Empire" marks a return to the franchise's roots in New York City. Reitman explained that "Afterlife" was a "passing-the-torch" film, introducing new characters and re-establishing the Ghostbusters world. "Frozen Empire" ramps up the action, featuring original cast members like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, alongside newer faces such as Paul Rudd. The media's focus has indeed shifted from "Ghostbusters 2016" to the new Jason Reitman films, reflecting a change in the franchise's direction. "Ghostbusters 2016," directed by Paul Feig, was a reboot with an all-female lead cast and faced mixed reactions from both fans and critics. In contrast, Reitman's "Afterlife" and now "Frozen Empire" are seen as direct sequels to the original films, appealing to both new audiences and longtime fans by blending nostalgia with fresh storytelling. This shift in narrative and style, moving away from the reboot approach of the 2016 film, might explain why the media's conversation has changed, focusing more on the continuity and expansion of the original Ghostbusters universe. "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" is set to hit theaters on March 22, 2024, and is already generating significant buzz, ranking as one of the top trending videos on YouTube. With its blend of new and familiar elements, the film is poised to capture the imaginations of a wide audience, continuing the legacy of one of cinema's most beloved franchises. Chris-Mas continues with a discussion of the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters -- and it FEELS like 2016 all over again, because we're wildly bummed about the misogynistic response to this film! We talk about the chicken-or-egg problem with this movie (was it bad before the criticism or did the criticism make it bad?), how Chris Hemsworth is unfortunately one of the funniest parts of this movie, and Kat gets pedantic. When it was clear that a Ghostbusters 3 was never going to happen, Sony rebooted the franchise with Ghostbusters: Answer The Call. The movie stars Kirsten Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Besides being well known for their comedy, they are also notably women. And that made some people mad. Despite critical praise, the movie underperformed at the box office. But today, all we care about is what works! And with star making performances from newcomers, and a script jam packed with jokes and gags, we found plenty to celebrate. Ahoy, Motherfuckers! This movie was an absolute joy that fixed every single issue that the previous films had. The women were actually given roles, the black character was an equal member of the Ghostbusters, and the city actually believed and respected their work. So it isn't any surprise to me that the movie tanked because menbabies were mad that this was an all-woman cast with a black woman in a leading role. If any Ghostbusters movie deserved a sequel, this was it.
