For a second time I am joined by Taylor Ward of the LA Kings. The last time Taylor was on the podcast, he was a college hockey player at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
The Orioles subtracted Taylor Ward from the lineup last week and replaced him with a AAA player from the Nationals instead of guys like Heston Kjerstad and Enrique Bradfield.
The Orioles got quiet the haul in return for Adley Rutschman. Are those prospects worthy of the hype? What about some of the other returns the O's got for Taylor Ward and Tyler Wells? Keith Law has all the answers.
The Orioles entered the final day of the trade deadline just 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot and, instead of making a run, sold off Adley Rutschman, Taylor Ward, Dean Kremer and Tyler Wells for a solid haul of prospects. The trades themselves weren't necessarily the problem. The problem was waving the white flag with what largely amounts to AAAA replacements on a team still within striking distance of October . The offense responded by going ice cold, scoring just 11 runs in six games before suddenly exploding for 10 today in a 10-5 win over Texas to pull within two games of a playoff spot. Naturally, that means they probably won't score again until Wednesday. That's Orioles baseball. Dillon Atkinson fills in for a vacationing Zach as we try to make sense of a deadline that ended the season while the standings say it's still very much alive. That and more on The Bat Around.

RUNDOWN Mitch and Hotshot Scott dissect a trade deadline that produced more shrugs than shockwaves, debating whether the Mariners actually bought or simply trimmed payroll. Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas debate whether Jerry Dipoto did enough at the deadline, breaking down Taylor Ward, Seranthony Domínguez, Luis Castillo, and the decision to keep George Kirby and Logan Gilbert. They also examine Seattle's lineup questions and what the club's quiet deadline reveals about its future. Did the Baltimore Orioles throw in the towel on the 2026 season on Monday? Probably. But as Luke Jones and Nestor point out, this current project of Mike Elias isn't working at any level and the haul for Adley Rutschman plus the other deals with Dean Kremer, Taylor Ward and Tyler Wells have certainly disgusted what's left the of Orioles fan base. Another selloff; different ownership. Does anyone know what they're doing at The Warehouse? Tim Barbalace and Cordell Woodland continue to react to all things MLB Trade Deadline, including a focus on the Baltimore Orioles and if they made the right decision to sell, after shipping Adley Rutschman to the Red Sox, and Taylor Ward to the Mariners.
The Orioles gave us one of the most exhilarating weeks of the season, and one of the most confusing. They took two of three from Detroit behind an epic comeback that may go down as the greatest in franchise history considering the stakes, followed it up with another dramatic comeback win over the Phillies, and then immediately crashed back to reality with consecutive shutout losses. Add in the surprising trade of Dean Kremer for an A-ball outfielder, mounting rumors involving Adley Rutschman, Taylor Ward, and Trevor Rogers, and a front office that has remained quiet while the rest of the American League arms race intensifies, and Baltimore enters the trade deadline just two-and-a-half games out of a playoff spot with more questions than answers. Tonight, we'll try to make sense of where this team stands with less than 24 hours until the deadline. That and more on The Bat Around.
The O's acquired Taylor Ward form the Angels less than a year ago and will now be sending him to Seattle at the trade deadline for a haul of three relief picthers.
Taylor Ward is expected to be very attractive to the rest of the league at next week's trade deadline, but should the Orioles be thinking about making him a part of the future?

They're pushing for action on a bipartisan bill filed last year to regulate retailers that sell tobacco and vape products and ban sales to people under age 21. The legislation has been parked for months in the Rules committees without a hearing. The Tobacco 21 Coalition Youth Council recently came to the legislature to push for movement on the bill. UNC-Chapel Hill student Taylor Ward and Lake Norman Charter School student Pranika Senthil joined WUNC News' Colin Campbell to talk about the effort and why the regulations are needed to protect young people.
