Rob, Ed, and Jeremy discuss who they believe is the greatest Oriole of all time.
Time for a Wednesday edition of Glenn Clark Radio, lots to do on the program today, Orioles win again, this time on the road vs a lefty up at Fenway Park, we'll recap last night, another fantastic effort from a starter in Shane Baz and look ahead to tonight's matchup with Bassitt on the bump. It's going to be a busy morning as both Ken Zalis and Drew Forrester will be in studio to punish Ken for losing our Ravens ‘Draft Draft' contest. Tim in Bel Air was nice enough to stop by and make some Malort Wings for us which we will be making Ken consume, among other things… We'll get to some of Drew's normal segments as well to talk Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final after last night and preview Game 1 of the NBA Finals ahead of tonight. At 11:30am, we are going to be joined by an old friend in former Oriole, now Red Sox reliever Danny Coulombe, to check in on how Danny is doing, talk about facing his old club and much more!
Griffin Warner talks betting for Tuesday. Griffin Warner returns with the May 26 edition of What I Bet on the Straight Outta Vegas AM pregame.com podcast feed, covering a critical NHL elimination game and a full 13-game MLB slate in one of the busiest betting days of the early summer. On the ice, Griffin explains why he is not buying the Colorado Avalanche as road favorites against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final. The Avs fell 5-3 in Game 3 and now trail 3-0, with Nathan MacKinnon's knee injury after blocking a shot adding serious uncertainty to Colorado's roster situation. Cale Makar returned from his own upper-body absence but Griffin says he never looked fully himself, and the backhand goal from Tomas Hertl that extended Vegas's lead was the moment that defined the game. Golden Knights minus 102 is his play. On the baseball side, Griffin works through every matchup on the board, starting with the Washington Nationals and Cade Cavalli against the Cleveland Guardians and Joey Cantillo, leaning Cleveland at minus 130. He covers the Tampa Bay Rays and Griffin Jax against a bullpen game, with former Rays righty Shane Baz, now an Oriole, having pitched well against Tampa recently, and finds value in the under on total first five at plus 100. He leans to Keider Montero and the under in Detroit against the Angels and Jack Kochanowicz, backs Boston and Ranger Suarez plus 100 over Spencer Strider and the Braves because Strider still needs to prove his return from elbow surgery is complete, monitors Sandy Alcantara and Miami against the Blue Jays and Braydon Fisher in a bullpen game, and sides with the Mets and David Peterson over the Reds and Chase Burns in a battle where plus money is simply too attractive to ignore. Kyle Harrison has been one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball since joining Milwaukee from Boston and Griffin respects him enormously but cannot pay minus 170. He leans under on Cam Schlittler and the Yankees against Kansas City and Bailey Falter after recounting how Lucas Erceg's blown save on a misplaced slider to Anthony Volpe cost him a two-unit win the night before. Joe Ryan and the Twins draw plus money from Sean Burke and the White Sox, making the under on seven and a half the natural lean. The Houston Astros no-hit Texas on Monday and Griffin reads that as a direct statement on how poorly the Rangers have been hitting and how difficult Globe Life Field plays, leaning under against Jack Leiter. Aaron Nola and the Phillies get the nod over Randy Vasquez and the Padres after Vasquez was scratched Monday and slid into Tuesday's spot. Emerson Hancock and Luis Severino shape up as a low-scoring Sacramento game, Eduardo Rodriguez and Tyler Mahle figure to keep it quiet at Oracle Park, and there is simply no case for backing Kyle Freeland and the Rockies at plus 206 in Los Angeles against Eric Lauer's Dodger debut. Griffin's Best Bet is the Pittsburgh Pirates and Braxton Ashcraft at minus 125 over the Cubs and Jordan Wicks, who is making his first big-league start of the season after being recalled from Triple-A Iowa following a stint on the IL. Use promo code ERA20 at pregame.com for 20 percent off through May 31. This week, we're joined by Chef Noah Sandoval, the chef behind Chicago's two-Michelin-starred Oriole and one of the more instinctive voices working in tasting menus today. An army brat with a Navy SEAL dad, Sandoval dropped out of high school, started washing dishes, and worked his way up through kitchens in Virginia and Chicago without much of a plan beyond getting better. He never really chased stars -- but they found him anyway. He joins us to talk about the early days, building Oriole from the ground up. Plus, an extended cameo from Chef Larry Feldmeier, to tout their new project, All Well, which just opened on April 22. We talk: cooking microwave cakes as a kid, learning under some of Chicago's most intense kitchens, why he doesn't overthink opportunities, balancing precision with instinct, what it actually takes to run a two-star restaurant, and why chasing a third might not be worth it -- and so much more.

Boomer officially joins Medicare as he turns 65. We discuss the Knicks' loss to the Rockets and concerns regarding Karl-Anthony Towns' involvement. Jerry provides updates on Giancarlo Stanton and the Yankees' win over Seattle, including Max Fried's dominance, plus a Mets loss in St. Louis. Pete Alonso hits his first home run as an Oriole off Jacob deGrom. Finally, the show navigates loud construction noise that has Boomer threatening to stop working from the studio entirely.
Jerry is here for his first update with Giancarlo Stanton and 2 more hits as the Yankees beat Seattle. Max Fried was great again. The Mets lost in St. Louis. We heard from Kodai Senga after the game. Boomer is feeling sick today, blaming Gio, who has been sick. Pete Alonso hit his first HR as an Oriole, and it came off Jacob deGrom.

We are time-traveling back to 1934 to celebrate Baseball in Baltimore! Wait. Baltimore! Hometown of Spiro Agnew, Michael Phelps, and Spankrock. The place where Edgar Allen Poe disembarked a train and then died. Wait, stop — you don't get to intro with this cute cultural smattering, "next we'll visit Cleveland, Dreeeew Carey!" Cards out, I wanted to have a baseball game presented to an audience and have it be a historical setting. As if we were standing in the venue, time traveling dudes… and ladies. But I didn't want the insane challenge of a baseball radio broadcast set in a historically accurate saloon. Vintage fans carrying on in historically accurate ways would be an extreme challenge and so I chose the 1934 All Star Game (in a wealthy person bar). Time travel? Baltimore? Baseball? Did the Orioles even exist at this point?Ok so there was a minor league Orioles— oh! they had this pitcher Lefty Grove. A Marylander, (minor league) Oriole, Future Hall of Famer… Lefty was traded for an outfield fence in Martinsburg. Lefty Grove was very much a way I could have tied Baltimore to the 1934 All Star Game… if he was in that All Star game. ****. Lefty Grove was an All Star in '33, '35, '36, '37, '38, '39. I tried to find the 1933 All Star Game broadcast — a game which native son Babe Ruth clobbered a two run shot and Lefty Grove secured the save. That totally would have strengthened my case for presenting the All Star Game in Charm City...And I failed to find it in full. So… 1934! Baltimore! Look I promise I found us a neat place to listen to the game. Behold, the structurally beautiful Hotel Rennert, one of the city's early skyline darlings (now a parking lot). It was the place for area titans to smoke cigars and bro it up the super formal way dudes did back then.Digging into the hotel's history turned out to be as complicated as I should have anticipated. The Hotel Rennert's fine dining reputation rested on chefs like Henry Cummings, a formerly enslaved man who moved to Baltimore and became a fixture as chef and caterer. He was an “expert in the preparation of terrapin… and all kinds of rare games in famous old Maryland style.”I found some Hotel Rennert menus (lunch and dinner) with plans to make a lazy inflationary joke (¢15 lobster?!) until I read on the back: “…From the very inception of the hostelry in 1885 it has employed only colored chefs and colored waiters." And being way out of my depth, I wondered how to digest that. Everything has been silly and light so far. Do I ignore and move on? So Old Line Plate, a blog of Maryland culinary history, helped shed some light on why a place like Hotel Rennert might advertise its employment practices on the menu. Old Line Plate cites Afro-American's December 1915 edition: “The French chef has been tried in the south, but, except in a few rare instances, they have failed to satisfy the peculiar demands of the southern epicure or even of the tourist who, coming south, expects dishes peculiarly southern... The demand for capable colored cooks is greater than the supply." Smithsonian Magazine detailed how American recipes in the 1800s shifted from “puddings, pies, and roasted meats” to include dishes like “pepper pot, okra stew, gumbo, and jambalaya” as African foodways were woven into American cuisine. Was this about serving better food, or were there broader forces at play? This is 1934—thirteen years before Jackie Robinson. We will only hear the All Stars that were allowed to play (IE: no Willie Wells, Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson). Tom Manning, Ford Bond and Graham McNamee had the call for NBC. McName got his start in radio announcing by walking into a radio station and asking if anyone needed an opera singer.

Welcome into a Monday edition of Glenn Clark Radio, unfortunately an unpleasant welcome with the Ravens season now on life support following a sour 28-24 loss to the Patriots and taking a franchise-record sixth home loss, third in primetime. We'll go over it all, where we go from here, what the future of the Ravens could look like and discuss where all the blame should go and hear from Harbaugh, Lamar and more on what the heck happened yesterday and this season. The boys will dish out their Slaps to the Helmet, and we'll discuss the Orioles trade they made Friday afternoon dealing a prospect package to Tampa for SP Shane Baz. We'll continue talking Ravens however at 11:20am when we check in with our friend Mike Golic Jr., NFL Analyst and from the Golic & Golic Show on Fanduel Sports Network as we get his thoughts on the Ravens, who to place the blame on and where we go from here with very little chance of the Ravens making the postseason. At 11:40am, we will switch gears to talk baseball and head down to Tampa Bay to talk about Shane Baz and break down the acquisition of the newest Oriole. All that and much more on a Monday edition of GCR…
The Orioles swung another trade with the Tampa Bay Rays, breaking the convention of not trading with your division rivals for the third time in as many years. This time young righty Shane Baz has been added to the rotation. The Orioles gave up a number of intriguing prospects, four in total, and a Competitive Balance Round A pick. But, they have added 3 years of high heat and hard curveballs. BlueSky Twitter YouTube Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Marc "Moose" Malusis doesn't hold back on the December 18, 2025 edition of The Fan, ripping into David Stearns' brutal handling of the Mets core. With fan favorites Pete Alonso (now an Oriole) and Edwin Diaz (now a Dodger) gone, Moose questions why the richest owner in sports couldn't "show the love" to keep elite talent. He examines the risky pivot to Devin Williams and the analytical "vision" that has left Queens unrecognizable. Moose also tackles the New York Giants' chaotic season, slamming "dopey" suggestions to trade quarterback Jaxson Dart and calling for a "proven commodity" like Mike McCarthy or Mike Tomlin to clean up the building.

At 11:50am, we're going to head up to New York and check in with Mets reporter for MLB.com Anthony DiComo to chat all about the Orioles signing of Pete Alonso, what it means for the O's and what we can expect from the longtime Mets first baseman in Baltimore as we look back on everything he accomplished in Queens. Then at 12:05pm, we'll make our picks for the weekend with our buddy Ken Zalis starting with Army-Navy on Saturday in Baltimore before diving into a healthy NFL Week 15 slate. Pitching wisdom from the Oriole's great, HOF Jim Palmer
In the upcoming special episodes I'm going to feature songbird species who fit three criteria: that I have plenty of recordings of them, that I have not significantly featured them before, and that they are not likely to be featured in the next season of Songbirding because they do no occur in the west, or have not shown up significantly in my western recordings as of right now. The Orchard Oriole has a curious song. Much like the Baltimore Oriole, each bird might have a slightly different song, with their own unique phrases. This songbird has quite a varied appearance, with lemony-yellow females, and males with two plumages: one of a yellow bird with a black beard, typically seen in the second year of the bird's life, followed up with a more mature plumage of a dark back and hood with what I like to refer to as a blood-orange chest, though some describe this more as a chestnut colour. Either way, the older males are quite a dark bird. I find that the Orchard Oriole usually sounds like it is frequently interrupting its own whistle-y songs with terse, harsh interjections. And to my ears, sounds almost like an Eastern Warbling Vireo, except that it is interrupting its own songs. For this episode we'll be exploring three locations within my Ontario breeding bird atlas square, in Haldimand County, Ontario. I've found over the years of this survey that this species is highly successful in Haldimand, showing up in a high proportion of my random point count surveys. EP 101: Who should win Most Valuable Oriole? by MASN
So much to cover with DD; he was an All Star, a Silver Slugger winner, he hit a HR in his first World Series at bat. He also replaced Brooks Robinson, the beloved long time 3B in Baltimore. Hear how he dealt with fan reaction, being traded to the West Coast and developing a gorgeous golf course. Those are just a few things we covered on this incredible episode of The Approach Shot.
It was only in 1939 that this Altamira Oriole was first found north of the Rio Grande River. Now it happily visits residents on the Texas side of the river, especially where a juicy orange half waits in a backyard feeder. Northerly breeding orioles, like Bullock's in the West and the Baltimore in the East, nest as far north as Canada, but winter mostly in Central America.
