The Orioles 2025 season has been a failure. What should Oriole fans be looking at in the second half of 2025 following the All-Star break? BlueSky Twitter YouTube
Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from Wednesday's BBMS to discuss what the O's should do with Tyler O'Neill. The first year Oriole is hurt yet again but the team gave him a big contract in the offseason. Is it time to end the experiment?
On July 11, 1985, Nolan Ryan of the Houston Astros becomes the first pitcher in history to record 4,000 strikeouts. Ryan notches the milestone dismissing New York Mets outfielder Danny Heep with 3 pitches in the sixth inning. On July 11, 1968, the Baltimore Orioles name future Hall of Famer Earl Weaver their manager. Weaver, a lifetime minor league player had been serving as the team's first base coach, and replaced the fired Hank Bauer. Under Weaver's managerial philosophy of ""Double-plays and the Three Run Homer" the 1970 Orioles would be World Champions. In addition to the 1970 World Series, Weaver's Orioles would win 100 plus games 5 times, four pennants, and six division titles. On July 11, 1914, "The Babe", George Herman Ruth makes his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox. Striking out in his first at-bat, Ruth would have to settle for a no-decision as the starting pitcher, after getting pulled for a pinch-hitter in the seventh. The Red Sox would win the game 4-3.On July 11, 1950, network television broadcasts an All-Star Game for the first time in history. In the first-ever extra-inning All-Star Game, the NL defeats the AL, 4-3. St. Louis Cardinals star Red Schoendienst wins the game with a home run in the 14th inning against Ted Gray.On July 11, 1961, San Francisco Giants pitcher Stu Miller is literally blown off the mound during the All-Star Game at Candlestick Park. In the ninth inning, high winds cause the 165-pound Miller to lose his balance. Umpires call a balk, allowing the tying run to score. The National League eventually wins, 5-4, in 10 innings. On July 11, 1967, Tony Perez of the Cincinnati Reds hits a 15th inning home run against Jim "Catfish" Hunter of the Kansas City A's. Perez' dramatic blast gives the National League a 2-1 victory ending the longest game in All Star history. It was only in 1939 that this Altamira Oriole was first found north of the Rio Grande River. Now it happily visits residents on the Texas side of the river, especially where a juicy orange half waits in a backyard feeder. Northerly breeding orioles, like Bullock's in the West and the Baltimore in the East, nest as far north as Canada, but winter mostly in Central America. Oriole Resources PLC CEO Martin Rosser talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's announcement of a significant maiden exploration target at its Mbe project in Cameroon. The milestone was achieved in under nine months from the start of the maiden drilling. Rosser explained that the independent consultant Forge estimated a median tonnage of 38 million tonnes at a mean grade of 0.86 grammes per tonne gold. This includes a mid-range level of 1.10 million ounces of contained gold. Rosser stated, "As soon as you get over 1,000,000oz, you are really motoring," underscoring the importance of this figure. The target model is limited to 200 metres below surface and is based on 2024 trenching data and assays from 13 of 24 planned drill holes at Mbe South. He added that grade tonnage sensitivity analysis showed strong retention of contained ounces at higher cut-off grades. The project shares mineralogy similarities with the Bibemi project and is considered suitable for open-pit mining methods. Rosser also noted that drilling at Mbe South continues and the company expects to deliver a maiden pit-constrained Mineral Resource estimate in the fourth quarter of this year. He emphasised the potential across the broader Mbe licence area and the company's surrounding eastern CLP licences in Cameroon. Visit Proactive's YouTube channel for more videos like this. The environmental recording for Oak Island Rain Soundwalk was recorded April 30th 2024. It's a really gentle soundscape; dewy and hushed. I chose this photo for the cover because, if you look closely, it captures the fine rain drops that fell that morning. It's hard to take a picture of rain. I got lucky here. I've gave Oak Island quite a bit of attention last year, initially surveying the soundscape without ornamentation:Later, I visited the spur road that leads to the area in the winter, basking in the sound of skeins of geese overhead and croaking Sandhill Cranes foraging in fallow fields. Finally, I used a recording made peering in the heart of the 100 acre Oak Savanna preserved at Oak Island for my sophomore Listening Spot effort: So we're back, and even though it captures an out-of-season sound for this part of the world, I thought it might be a soothing addition for summer programming. The weather here in the Pacific Northwest has been idyllic. Meanwhile, headlines land in my news feed about heat waves on the US East Coast and in Europe. If you're feeling the heat, this one goes out to you.In this season of open windows and being outside, our cities become a little noisier. Sometimes that can be exciting Sometimes it can be unwanted. I make no pretenses about what my soundwalks are for, what purpose they serve, but if this one can quell any thirst for peace, quiet, and tenderness out there, I'm all for it.In this landscape we hear migratory Bullock's Oriole, Rufous Hummingbird, Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Western Tanager, Purple Finch, Tree Swallow, Black-headed Grosbeak, Savannah Sparrow, Red-wing Blackbird... The interesting thing is they are all singing lowkey, as the kids say, as in quietly. The rain seems to have a subduing effect. Thanks for listening and reading! I'm making this one available in its entirety here on Substack, because I think there is probably someone new-to-me it could be useful to. If you enjoy what you hear, please consider telling just one person about it. As per usual, Oak Island Rain Soundwalk is available on all music streaming services today, July 4, 2025, Happy Independence Day! This is a public episode. In "Episode 7" of the series on "Present and future of diagnostics in prostate cancer", Dr. Marcin Miszczyk (PL) and Prof. Wolfgang Fendler (DE) discuss the role of PSMA-PET imaging in modern prostate cancer management. They examine how this advanced imaging modality compares to conventional techniques, and whether its improved sensitivity and specificity are enough to shift treatment paradigms. Drawing on key trials like proPSMA, ORIOLE, STORM, and RADIOSA, the episode highlights both the clinical value and the unresolved questions surrounding PSMA-PET, particularly regarding overdiagnosis, stage migration, and missed lesions.Dr. Miszczyk and Prof. Fendler consider its potential in dose escalation, personalised therapy, and integration with MRI for better staging. They also reflect on upcoming changes in clinical guidelines, especially for high-risk patients, and share a hopeful outlook on the impact of PSMA-PET in shaping more precise and effective prostate cancer care. For more EAU podcasts, please go to your favourite podcast app and subscribe to our podcast channel for regular updates: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, EAU YouTube channel.
Oriole Resources PLC (AIM:ORR) CEO Martin Rosser talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the latest drilling results from the Mbe South target. Rosser explained that hole 12, the focus of the announcement, intersected significant gold mineralisation, starting from just 2.4 metres below the surface. He noted, "It includes an excellent 21.3 metres at 1.61 grams per tonne gold." Further high-grade intercepts were also reported, such as 2.5 metres at 10.31 grams per tonne gold. Rosser added that subsurface mineralisation now extends over a strike length of at least 200 metres, a width of up to 400 metres, and to a vertical depth of at least 290 metres. Importantly, the mineralised system remains open in all directions and at depth. The maiden drilling program is now almost 70% complete, with 15 holes drilled. Results for hole 13 are anticipated by late this quarter or early Q3. Rosser stated that once received, an independent consultant will prepare a JORC exploration target estimate in Q3, offering guidance on the resource potential. A maiden pit-contained JORC code mineral resource estimate is also expected in Q4. Rosser also reminded shareholders of the company's AGM scheduled for Wednesday, 25th June. Ed and Rob took some time from Wednesday's BBMS to discuss Manny Machado's career and then debate how baseball fans will remember him. Manny has played 861 games as a Padre and 860 as an Oriole. The stats are similar, but will he be remembered more in an Orioles uniform or a Padres uniform?
Oriole Resources PLC CEO Martin Rosser talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for the Bibemi Gold Project in Cameroon. Rosser confirmed a significant uplift in contained gold at Bakassi Zone 1 (BZ1), with the new estimate standing at 460,000oz—comprised of 100,000oz in the Indicated category and 360,000oz in the Inferred category. The average grade is just over two grams per tonne, based on a gold price of US$2,750/oz. The new figure represents a 23% increase compared to the January 2024 MRE and is based on just 7,000m of drilling. Rosser highlighted the strong conversion rate and noted the geometrically unified block's suitability as a starter pit. He also shared a new JORC exploration target across Bakassi Zones 1 and 2, as well as Lawa East and West, estimating an additional 145,000oz to 400,000oz of contained gold. Discussing mineral processing, Rosser said: “It bodes well for the ongoing next steps.” He detailed test work from SGS and CS Solutions, which supported a proposed flow sheet achieving around 85% gold recovery through flotation, pressure oxidation, and cyanide leaching. Looking ahead, the company will begin preliminary economic assessment studies and advance its exploitation license application with the Cameroonian government. Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from Monday's BBMS to debate which current Oriole will be DFA'd when Andrew Kittredge joins the team. Is it time to say goodbye to Charlie Morton or Cionel Perez?
Oriole Resources PLC (AIM:ORR) CEO Martin Rosser talked with Proactive about the latest drill results from the Mbe Gold Project in Cameroon, which he described as the company's best since his appointment. The ongoing maiden drilling program has returned 125 gold intersections from just eight holes, translating to an intersection every 21 metres drilled. Rosser emphasised the scale and quality of the results, highlighting that “Mbe eight came back with over 85 metres, I think 86.5 to be precise,” including a particularly strong section of 39.4 metres at two grams per tonne. He added that these intersections start close to surface, supporting the potential for open-pit mining. To date, over 60% of the drilling program has been completed, but only one-third of the results have been reported, suggesting more updates to come. Rosser confirmed that 16 more holes remain to be reported, with the JORC exploration target expected in Q3, followed by a maiden mineral resource estimate in Q4. In addition to ongoing analysis at Mbe South, Rosser mentioned plans to launch the first drilling program at Mbe North, indicating further upside potential. Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from Thursday's BBMS to debate the possibility of the Orioles giving Cedric Mullins a contract extension. Cedric is a homegrown Oriole that's expressed a great love for the city. Do the O's need to return that love?
Oriole Resources PLC (AIM:ORR) CEO Martin Rosser talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the latest drilling results from the company's maiden drilling programme at the Mbe project in Cameroon. Rosser said the newly announced results are in line with previous findings, noting “multiple intersections of gold mineralisation over good widths.” These results support the emerging geological model, as the company continues to build a 3D picture of the deposit. According to Rosser, the mineralisation observed so far points to the potential for a bulk tonnage, open pit mineable operation—an outcome he noted is attractive for major mining companies seeking scale efficiencies. He added that Oriole is on track to complete the drilling program by the third quarter of this year. Following that, the company expects to publish both a maiden mineral resource estimate and an exploration target during the second half of the year. Regular updates on further drill results are anticipated as assays are returned and validated. Rosser also encouraged stakeholders to attend an investor presentation and Q&A scheduled for 13:00, offering more insight into the company's progress and plans. Oriole Resources PLC (AIM:ORR) CEO Martin Rosser and CFO Bob Smeeton take Proactive's Stephen Gunnion through the company's latest full-year results and upcoming milestones across its key exploration projects. Rosser highlighted a pivotal year for the company's Bibemi and Mbe gold projects in Cameroon. At Bibemi, a recently completed phase five drilling campaign is feeding into a revised Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE), expected this quarter. “We believe there's very good potential to not just increase the amount of gold, but also improve the category of the resource,” said Rosser. The company is also advancing an exploitation license application for the project. At Mbe, maiden drilling continues, following trenching results that indicated strong mineralisation. “We think Mbe South has significant potential to host a substantial gold deposit,” Rosser added. Smeeton detailed a £2 million reduction in operating loss and financial support from BCM International. “Since year-end, BCM have given us $1.1 million, largely replenishing CapEx,” Smeeton noted. He also confirmed progress on a joint venture agreement with Managem at the Senala project in Senegal. Rosser pointed to potential sector-wide revaluations driven by high gold prices and possible M&A activity. “Oriole's shares are significantly undervalued,” he said. Ed, Rob, and Jeremy took some time from the opening hour of Friday's BBMS to debate which Oriole is under the most pressure to perform in 2025. Jackson Holliday is coming off of an up-and-down rookie year but expectations for the O's prospect are still sky high. Can he live up to the hype?
It's winter in North America — a good time to head for the subtropical realms of South Florida and listen to the region's birds, such as the secretive Mangrove Cuckoo pictured here. Rarely seen, it sings sporadically in winter. When it does, you're sure to take notice. A sweeter voice belongs to the Spot-breasted Oriole. Found in suburban neighborhoods, these birds were brought to Florida in the 1940s from Central America. It's taken a few weeks after the heartbreaking end of the 2024 baseball campaign for the Orioles' postseason strategy under the guidance of general manager Mike Elias' to be revealed. And in a few words, and with all due respect to former president Ronald Reagan, the plan appears to be “Move Back That Wall.” Specifically, the most visible thing Elias has said or done since the Birds were swept out by the Kansas City Royals in the wild card round is to declare that the team will bring in the left field wall at Oriole Park. That doesn't exactly have the same impact as Reagan's dare to Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev to end communism by destroying the Berlin Wall, but the Orioles' brass hope this is a statement of intent to remain a force. The club pushed the fences back and raised their height in 2022 under the theory that doing so would make Camden Yards more appealing to potential pitching free agent signees. The theory behind the move was that, in its previous configuration, Oriole Park was a bandbox, especially for right-handed hitters, and pushing the fences out in left field would raise the park's attractiveness to pitchers. For all the talk of the warehouse which adorns the right field area, some of the longest homers in the 32-year history of Camden Yards have been hit to left. Indeed, former Texas outfielder Juan Gonzalez has the longest regular season home run ever at Oriole Park, a 450-foot blast off Hall of Famer Mike Mussina and two moon shots, one 455 feet and another 473 feet, the following year in the 1993 Home Run Derby. In the present day, the move of the fences has largely been panned. Hitters have mostly complained about long drives that traveled to left, seemingly destined for home run territory, only to end up in a left fielder's glove. According to the website, Baseball Savant, Oriole first baseman Ryan Mountcastle alone has 11 drives over the last three years that would have been home runs at the previous left field distance and height, Switch hitter Anthony Santander has lost seven Oriole Park home runs during that span. The club is said to be considering re-signing Santander or pursuing Teoscar Hernandez, a right handed slugger, who just won a World Series ring with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Besides the money, both players and other potential right handed hitters are likely to take into consideration that the new left field fence will be anywhere from 9-20 feet closer to home plate and will be 5-6 feet shorter. Or at least that's what Elias is hoping. Meanwhile, the Orioles haven't picked up any noteworthy free agent pitchers during the last three years, though they did trade for starter Corbin Burnes, getting the former National League Cy Young Award winner from Milwaukee before the 2024 season. Burnes was the only Baltimore player to be named to the All-Major League team and is a free agent. The new fence length might weigh on his mind, but, and this is just a guess, a fistful of dollars might assuage his concerns. And that's how I see it for this week.
