Please enjoy this re-release of a past episode of For the Ages. New episodes will return Fall 2025. Enshrined in our Constitution and etched into our currency, religion is inextricable from the fabric of American political and social life. The ubiquity of religion in our national history has also made it an elusive, at times contradictory, force in this country's growth—one that is associated with freedom and tolerance as often as it is with censure and control. Catherine Brekus, professor of American religious history at Harvard Divinity School, joins David Rubenstein to discuss the complex and fascinating role religious practice and expression has played in shaping the United States. Fan Favorite: This episode originally aired on January 11, 2022. If you've been following me for any length of time, you've probably heard about the years I spent chasing money - and how it left me emotionally bankrupt. Don't get me wrong - money is a powerful force. It gives you the ability to close your eyes, imagine something that you want to create, and then open your eyes and actually be able to go out there and do it. However, I've also found that people have wildly different opinions on money, how we should relate to it, and how it affects our levels of happiness and fulfillment. But what do people who have really mastered the game of money have to say about it? What constitutes a wealthy life? How should we define success? How do we create and monetize long-term value for those we serve? Todays' episode of Impact Theory answers those questions, and many more. I've assembled some of my favorite moments from past guest interviews, all revolving around our relationships with money and financial success. Over the past two years, our pal and longtime writer and author John Eisenberg has unraveled the history of the Baltimore Orioles via his Bird Tapes on Substack and a series of new conversations with the legends of Birdland.

The Baltimore Orioles fired manager Brandon Hyde on Saturday morning via a press release with quotes from David Rubenstein and Mike Elias. What did “the pursuit of happiness” mean to our nation's Founders, and why was it included in the Declaration of Independence? Listed as one of America's unalienable rights, this phrase finds its roots in the classical works of the Greek and Roman moral philosophers which would have made up our Founders' libraries. Speaking to the moral character that the Founders hoped to imbue in the new American citizen, it also exemplified a dedication to the idea of personal self-government. Yet like so many of our founding documents, this phrase in the Declaration of Independence sat in stark contrast to the legality of slavery in the new nation. In conversation with David Rubenstein, constitutional expert Jeffrey Rosen explores the origins and implications of this iconic phrase in the American lexicon. Recorded on March 4, 2024

JFK's wanted to counter some of the negative things Dulles & Eisenhower had done in the 3rd world. The CIA use NGOs to cover up their covert, black operations; always follow the money. JFK needed to compete with the Russian & Chinese influence on vulnerable countries. Under Biden the Pentagon spending has just skyrocketed, with Democrats becoming the Party of War. Why did the Biden government want to revive the Cold War against Russia? Perpetual war, for perpetual peace is a business model for the Military Industrial Complex.

Patrick Gunnels is back with another packed edition of The Brief, breaking down the chaos unfolding in Washington as Trump's team goes to war with the Treasury Department over blocked financial records. A federal judge just threw up last-minute roadblocks, but is this all just part of the bigger takedown? Meanwhile, the USAID meltdown is hitting new levels, with traumatized staffers comparing their mass firings to a horror movie (spoiler: nobody feels bad for them). And in one of the biggest power moves of the week, Trump fired deep-state billionaire David Rubenstein from the Kennedy Center and installed himself as chairman. Why does Rubenstein own half of America's historical archives, and what does this mean for the deep state's control over historical narratives? Also on deck: Trump's next play with North Korea, DHS accusing the FBI of leaking ICE raid plans, and why the deep state is suddenly terrified of Russia in Gaza. The controlled demolition is accelerating, and we're here to break it all down.

The Treasury Department is in chaos after a federal judge issued a shady, last-minute order blocking Trump's team from accessing financial records, but is this just the setup for a massive deep state takedown? Who is Rubenstein, and why does he own half of America's most sacred historical documents? Owning a professional sports team is not for the faint of heart. Results are volatile and wins and losses come with the strong emotions of a city's fan base. But it's a sound investment for the right type of business leader, and the value of professional teams has been steadily rising over the past several years. Two legendary owners with very different backgrounds meet for this conversation about what it's like to have a major stake in the game. Alex Rodriguez wrapped up an incredible career in major league baseball in 2016, after playing for 22 years. He's gone on to found the investment firm A-Rod Corp. and recently bought a stake in the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA's Lynx. David Rubenstein is a businessman, lawyer and co-founder of The Carlyle Group private equity firm. In 2024, he became the principal owner of the Baltimore Orioles, his hometown MLB team. Businessman Gregg Lemkau, co-CEO of the merchant bank BDT and MSD Partners, moderates the conversation. aspenideas.org
