Unblocking Creativity and aiding Healing in Times of Change - Nature, Retreats and a Haven in London

Sharing a space in silence can be uplifting, revelatory and inspiring, sharing a space in nature can be an even more powerful experience. Allowing your brain to think in different ways by taking time away by being in a different space unblocks creativity, it can help you shape a different way of thinking, a different ways of being. This is important in times of change, career change and stress. Doing this surrounded by nature compounds the effect. There is a unique space of harmony in London that not a lot of people know about. It is a retreat centre with two spaces embracing nature, one is wild and more open with a Yurt cafe, moroccan stews and fresh bread and the second an inner sanctuary, a secret hidden garden in the heart of a cloister, a place for quiet reflection and peace. That place is The Royal Foundation of St Katharines. Founded by Queen Matilda in 1147, the foundation's purpose is to serve the community and it is doing just that, with Amnesty International, the Red Cross and businesses using the meeting spaces for conferences and events, but also is a place of retreat for people from all over the world to come and take some time out to regroup, recharge and experience peace in the centre of London. We speak to The Venerable Roger Preece, Master of the Foundation to ask him the philosophical question why nature is important to us.

In this episode I'm chatting to the super inspiring Lara Zilibowitz. She's an amazing Yoga Teacher and space holder who also creates some really epic retreats in some beautiful places around the globe, inspiring people to drop in deeper to the healing power of nature, to come back into their own inner harmony and connect with community. We firstly dive into her journey of discovering yoga in her late teens as a way to heal from post-traumatic stress from a near/death incident that affected her entire nervous system, and how long and winding that journey of unravelling anxiety has been. We also speak about her incredible artistry, the amazing wall murals she's been painting, and the power of creativity for unwinding imbalances and tapping us into our true, creative, playful nature. She also shares about the deep relationship she's in, the super special, fateful way it came to be, and how they've used the power of their love to collaborate in creating yoga and sound experiences in classes, workshops and retreats. We speak about finding the balance in a work-lover relationship, and some of the main pieces of gold she's learnt through being in such a potent union. She also gives us good tips on how to break through the self-doubt that comes as you decide to be more of a teacher, speaker or space-holder. And lots more. My guest on Ep. 60 of the Beyond Your Past Podcast, is Rukshana Triem, and she is certainly no stranger to trials and tribulations that come from a childhood full of trauma. Rukshana is former refugee from Mozambique who came to the United States in 1990s. She overcame childhood sexual abuse during her time in the refugee camp and is now an advocate for parents and child care providers to support them on their healing journey. She is also the C.E.O of her Women's Lifestyle coaching business where she helps women overcome their rough past and create their beautiful life through Nature Retreats and online coaching programs and communities. Rukshana holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Human Development and worked as an Early Childhood Teacher, Trainer, Mentor, Social worker, and now a Lifestyle Coach for women. When she's not working she's spending time with her husband, her girls who are currently in college, and volunteering taking women on outdoor adventures, including hiking and backpacking. During our time on the podcast, Rukshana and I discuss things such as: Some of the past of living in the refugee camp, and the trauma that she endured, and how she uses those experiences to help others overcome their past? How did she change her story from Trauma to Success? When did you get to the point that you said its time to change your story from Victim to Victory? How did her journey lead into a career in entrepreneurship? What she would like to share with others who are stuck in their old story? How long did this journey take to heal the Trauma, and what other steps did she take to heal her wounds?
