Wolfgang Flür was born in Frankfurt in 1947 but moved to Düsseldorf in the early ‘50s, which has been home ever since. As a young man he played in the band The Sprits Of Sound, and studied to be an architect, hoping to get into interior design. Wolfgang joined Kraftwerk in 1973 and plays on one of the most remarkable album runs in pop music history; “Autobahn”, “Radioactivity”, “Trans Europe Express”, “The Man Machine”, and “Computer World”. He left the band in the mid-80's and his relationship with his former bandleader Ralf Hütter has been somewhat acrimonious over the past few decades. Wolfgang has just released a new record entitled “Times”, which you'll hear clips from during our conversation. The album features collaborations from Peter Hook (formally of Joy Division and New Order of course), and Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter. The day before the interview I was informed that Wolfgang's musical partner Peter Duggal would be sitting in on the call too. Peter is a musician and producer based in Hebden Bridge, and is very amenable company. This was a fun chat. Wolfgang is really funny and interesting. It probably goes without saying that I absolutely love Kraftwerk, and although I sensed it would not be wise to focus on them too much, it's still a thrill to have them represented on the podcast.   Instagram: @sendingsignalspodcast

Low prices, maximum fun and a loyal community of racers. If you haven't done one of Stu's races before then I suggest you look them up!Stu spent many years as part of the Spine safety team, before setting up his own race company rangerultras.co.uk.Ranger Ultras delivers financially accessible events in and around the Peak District and Yorkshire Moors. In line with his ethos of low key, high quality events. Stu felt that trail runners should be able to enjoy the views of the Pennines that the big corporate sponsored multi-day races offer (mentioning no names) but without the huge price tag. This led to the conception of his PB270 and PB137 races in April. Both fully supported start the clock ultras up the Pennine Bridleway, from Middleton Top near Matlock, to Kirkby Stephen for the 270.The 137 goes from Hebden Bridge to Kirkby Stephen, starting a day later. All of the wow factor of a multi-day race along the Pennines, but without the traveling circus and high costs.Ranger Ultras currently offer the below races throughout the year for you to get stuck into!PB270 - Pennine Bridleway ChallengePB137 - Pennine Bridleway ChallengeYorkshire 3 Peaks Peak District South and North (1 day or full weekend options)PB55km UltraPB18km UltraHigh Peak 70/100 UltraHigh Peak 18km TrailAs well as the grand slam over the race season.....Follow the below link to find out more rangerultras.co.ukURS

On this week's episode of Local Legends, Martin is joined by author, folklorist, musician and songwriter Paul Weatherhead, whose book Weird Calderdale is a must-have for fans of Yorkshire folklore!Paul is a native of the Calder Valley in Yorkshire, and was brought up in Hebden Bridge. After finishing school and his BA, Paul spent several years teaching in Greece, Moscow and Northern Siberia before he returned to Calder Valley in the late 1990s. With a longstanding obsession with the weird history of the area he grew up, he wrote Weird Calderdale, the first edition of which was released in 2003 which went on to become a local best-seller.After earning his MA, Paul's writing then began to be published in various magazines and journals, including Psychology Today, The Skeptic, Northern Life and Psychedelic Scene. He frequently writes on topics including mass hysteria, delusions, weird history and folklore. And on the mass hysteria and delusions front, his latest book, released in September 2024, is called Social Panics and Phantom Attackers – A Study of Imaginary Assailants, which was co-written with renowned sociologist Robert Bartholomew: a mega-interesting topic which we discuss in some depth during this episode. As well as his research interests, Paul is a musician and songwriter, playing electric mandolin with cult folk rock band The Ukrainians for many years, as well as composing solo work consisting of comic folk horror songs inspired by 60s psychedelia, 80s video nasties and the Hebden Bridge Times. All of which makes Paul the ideal person to speak to about Yorkshire, and about folk music, too. To learn more about Paul and his work and books, and to read his excellent blog, do be sure to visit his website at paulweatherhead.com.Otherwise, settle in for a chat which engages with topics including local witches battling Cliff Richard, Yorkshire's zombies, the Halifax guillotine, local anti-hero Tom Bell, unidentified flying objects, and so much more! The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcast Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Loose Ends is in Hebden Bridge this week, a town made famous by the BBC drama Happy Valley, but you might also recognise the place and its glorious scenery from Last Tango in Halifax, Gentleman Jack or The Gallow's Pole. Clive will talk to local resident and bestselling novelist Joanne Harris, maybe best known for Chocolat which was adapted into an Oscar nominated film of the same name. Her latest book The Moonlight Garden is a fantasy set in a "long ago and far away" version of London and fits right into the wildly popular "romantasy" genre - a good fit for a town renowned for its quirky ways and alternative lifestyles. Also in the show, the acclaimed comedian and actor Richard Blackwood, best known for roles in Hollyoaks and EastEnders as well as on stage, is out on the road and passing through town on a stand up tour promising heavyweight laughs and no messing. TV presenter, GP and host of Europe's most popular wellness podcast Dr Ranjan Chatterjee will be easing us all into the New Year, just about the time when we all begin to fall off the New Year resolutions wagon and we'll be hearing about what happened to his own long held ambition to be Jon Bon Jovi. They recount the time they toured the Alps, almost crashed the van in Paris and had to save the drummer from a Jimi Hendrix style ending. Plus the time that the band were due to play a festival just outside Bristol but ended up in Hebden Bridge due to an email error. Also, why have Smiling Ivy been banned from multiple places around the country, how did they end up playing a Snow Festival with no snow and does a drum kit have a volume knob? Smiling Ivy are releasing a new album soon and they have gigs coming up. John Wilson talks to photographer Martin Parr about the formative influences and experiences that inspired his own creativity. Globally renowned for his witty and satirical scenes of British life, Parr made his name in the 1970s with a series of monochrome photographs documenting the community of Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. His fame grew with his 1985 project The Last Resort, which captured the spirit of the great British holiday in images of ice-cream, chips, and sunburnt bodies on the litter-strewn concrete promenade of New Brighton, Liverpool. Since then, his instantly recognisable work has examined subjects including global consumerism, mass tourism and class. He has published over a hundred books of his work, exhibited all round the world, and is regarded as one of Britain's greatest photographers. Parr is celebrated as Master Of Photography at the 2023 Photo London fair, and has recently opened his own Foundation to exhibit the work of emerging photographers alongside his own. Martin Parr reveals how, growing up in suburban Surrey, he was introduced to photography by his Yorkshire grandfather during holiday visits. He remembers seeing exhibitions by Bill Brandt and Henri Cartier-Bresson in the late 1960s, but it was the work of British street photographer Tony Ray-Jones, whose images he first saw whilst studying photography at Manchester Polytechnic, that was most influential. Martin Parr further developed his distinctive documentary style, and his use of saturated colour processing techniques, after seeing work by American photographer William Egglestone. Martin Parr also chooses the 1991 film Night On Earth by Jim Jarmusch as a key influence on his quirky approach to storytelling, and reflects on how his style and subjects have developed over the years. Previsico's co-founders on predicting and preventing flood risk

On this episode of the Scouting For Growth podcast, Sabine VdL talks to Dr. Avi Baruch, co-founder and COO of Previsico, and Jonathan Jackson, co-founder and CEO of Previsico. Previsico is a surface water flood forecasting specialist, enabling people and organisations to minimise the impact of flooding.  Flooding cost the global economy more than $82 billion in 2021, accounting for nearly a third of all losses from natural catastrophes, reports the Swiss Re Institute in a 2022 study. Estimates from Statista show that 29 million people were affected by Flooding in 2021. Flooding is the second largest weather-related peril after droughts.  During the course of the podcast, Avi, Jonathan, and Sabine discuss: 1) Flooding and the difference between natural hazards and man-made disasters, 2) Previsico's four step-method to reduce flood risk, 3) build back better and why we ought to protect the small and medium-sized business from flooding, 4) protect, predict, prevent and 5) top tips to reduce the risk of flood. KEY TAKEAWAYS During the course of my PhD, I realized that academia wasn't for me, but saw so much potential in the technology we were building to monitor flood water in real time to give early warnings. I felt the only way to really get it to be used effectively on the ground was to spin-out the company. We explored quite a few different markets to find out which would be served best by it and that's where I met Johnathan. In order to reduce flood risk, there are four main steps we recommend you take: Step 1 – Understand your risk, there are a lot of really good risk-monitoring products already out there on the market. Step 2 – Invest in the right risk measures, these include flood defences or setting up non-return valves. Step 3 – Have a flood action plan, knowing what to do when you're expecting a flood, moving stock, turning electricity off, who's responsible for the response? Step 4 – Use an early warning system, this is the final part of the jigsaw when building flood resistance. If you take all those steps you can substantially reduce the risk and hopefully prevent a disaster from ever occurring. Resilience measures are often really simple things, like turning off the gas, electricity, water. That alone can save a huge amount. Moving your car to a safer place, really simple stuff that makes a huge difference. People in communities like Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire, for example, where back in 2015 they were closed down for months after a flood are not reopening after three days, it's a massive change because they understand what to do. Other communities that are not used to floods are more challenging because you've got to know what to do with the warning you've been given. COP26 made a big play around the fact that the UK government cannot defend the country against flood, the country has to learn to adapt to flood, and adaptation means starting to take responsibility for flood plans and resilience measures. That's being backed up by the insurance industry making really important moves in terms of ‘build back better', where a property has been hit by flood, that homeowner will be given up to £10,000 additional funding by a number of insurers to help them put in flood resilience measures to protect against flood going forward. BEST MOMENTS ‘Flood risk is rising, there's more extreme weather, the weather is more volatile, climate change is causing heavier downpours – particularly in the summer – and longer, wetter winters.'‘There's no such thing as a natural disaster. There's natural hazards and human disasters. If you know where the hazard is going to be and you are able to prepare for it effectively, it doesn't need to be a disaster.'‘If people are used to having to cope with floods they tend to know what to do. Our solution is a great value-add that we can bring to that situation.'‘We shouldn't be building new developments on floodplains, especially when we haven't fully addressed the impact that flooding will have on those properties.' In her 20s she worked as a model and then became a complementary therapist and a spiritual and relationship counsellor. In her 30s she had a near death experience which gave her a greater understanding of the work that she was doing. In the 90s she set up a healing centre in Hebden Bridge which is still running to this day. She has also been married to the podcast host, Piers Cross, for the past 13 years. Some of the questions that I ask her:I would love for you to talk a bit about your life and journey. In your work you talk about the importance of the masculine and the feminine. Can you please explain? How does this relate to relationships? What are some of the key traits of ex-boarders in relationships? How is that different from people who have not been to boarding school? Both the positives and the negatives? Can you talk about some of these other areas:Control and manipulationProject identifcation – when you feel like you are going crazy if the other partners is in denial or dissociation.Workoholism and how we struggle to stopShut down hearts and how we open them up again.Growing up in a world with leaders with shut down hearts – what was it like growing up in this environment for a young girl – thinking that you had been born on the wrong planet. How we metSeparation between sex and loveEldersComplaining and blamingWhat are relationships all about? How does a man deal with a woman's anger or upset? How do we as men/ ex-boarders/ people who have been through trauma heal and recover?--- Piers is an author and a men's transformational coach and therapist who works mainly with trauma, boarding school issues, addictions and relationship problems. In this episode, Stephen and Aaron drink and rate the new Life & Death series from Vocation Brewery in Hebden Bridge. Called the Life & Death festival, these beers were brewed in celebration of the original's 7th birthday, first being brewed back in 2015. Since then, Life & Death has gone on to become Vocation's best-selling beer with the brewery now selling over 10 million pints in total per year, a long way away from the chicken shed they first started in! The three beers were a session version at 3.5%, a hazy version at 6.5% and a gold version at 7.4% all of which were drank and rated on the shows. Whilst drinking the beers, both Stephen & Aaron reflect on the incredible achievement that was the England Lionesses winning the 2022 Euros on home soil at Wembley in front of a record-breaking crowd. Beating Germany 2-1 in the second period of extra time, the women did what the men couldn't and finally brought football home and hopefully inspired a nation of young female athletes as a result. We consider the potential effects of this amazing achievement and what it could mean for the future of women's football. Before we close out the show, we give our thoughts on the upcoming Premier League season with Stephen being a Manchester United fan and Aaron being a Leeds United fan. The Ronaldo problem comes up in conversation, as does Leeds' selling of two of their best players, Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, before pinning our colours to the mast and predicting where both will respectively finish come the end of the season. Welcome to another episode of the Transport for the North Podcast! Join our new Business Matters series, which looks at transport investment as an enabling force to encourage job creation, economic growth and increased access to opportunity for the 16 million people living here. This time we speak with Craig Whittaker MP, who tells us about his role as the Member of Parliament for the Calder Valley. He says the area has an incredibly diverse range of industries, from advanced vehicle manufacturing to TV filming, as towns in his constituency play host to Sally Wainwright's Happy Valley and Last Tango in Halifax! Rooted in a history of textile manufacturing, the area is now a popular place to live as a commuter location but also functions as a cultural hub for local people, with towns such as Hebden Bridge being home to a variety of successful arts venues, with historical links to poets such as Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath. Craig provides his views on levelling up, with a special recognition for the new Northern Class 195 rolling stock that has been introduced to the Calder Valley Line in recent years to replace the old pacer trains, and expresses his wishes for the line to be electrified. However, he also speaks about the important role that healthcare services and flood resilience can play with providing a better quality of life for his constituents, whilst informing us about upcoming plans. A Small Voice: Conversations With Photographers

Born 1953 in Cardiff, Wales, Peter Fraser acquired his first camera at the age of 7 and after a false start studying Civil Engineering, at 18, began studying photography at Manchester Polytechnic the following year. In the summer of 1974 he lived in New York and worked at the Laurel Photography Bookstore at 32nd St and 6th Avenue which significantly expanded his sense of photography's expressive possibilities. He graduated in 1976 after repeating his 3rd year due to major illness crossing the Sahara, while photographing in West Africa.Peter lived in Holland and Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, before moving back to Manchester in 1981. He then began working with a Plaubel Makina camera in 1982 which led to an exhibition with William Eggleston at the Anolfini, Bristol in 1984, and a move to that city. In summer 1984 Peter travelled to Memphis, USA to spend nearly two months with Eggleston, which confirmed for him the desire to commit his life to working with colour photography. He then worked on several series of photographs, leading to a first publication, Two Blue Buckets which won the Bill BrandtPrize in London (the precursor of the CitiBank International Photography Prize), in 1988.He moved to London in 1990, subsequently publishing several new bodies of work,  including Ice and Water1993, Deep Blue 1997,Material 2002, and Peter Fraser (Nazraeli Press) 2006.In 2002, The Photographers' Gallery, London, staged a 20 year survey exhibition of Peter's work, and he was shortlisted for the Citigroup International Photography Prize in 2004. In 2006 he was invited to be an Artist in Residence at Oxford University, England and produced new work for permanent installation in their new Biochemistry building in 2008.In 2009 Peter was given a major commission by The Ffotogallery, Wales, to return to his country of birth, to make new work for a solo exhibition at the gallery, which opened in March 2010, with a new publication, Lost For Words. In 2008 Fraser began working on A City In The Mind a new series of photographs in London, which was shown at Brancolini Grimaldi Gallery, London in May 2012 accompanied by a Steidl Publication. From January to May 2013, Tate St Ives held a retrospective of Fraser's career, the first Tate Retrospective for a living British Photographer working in colour, and Tate published a major monograph on the whole of Fraser's career with a text by David Chandler. Tate purchased 10 works for their permanent collection from theTwo Blue Buckets series in 2014.In 2014 Peter was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Photographic Society, UK.In spring 2017 Peperoni Books, Berlin, published a new ‘Director's Cut' of Fraser's 1988 publication Two Blue Bucketswith 19 missing images from the original, and a new essay by Gerry Badger and a discussion between Fraser and David Campany. In 2017 Peter's exhibition Mathematics was exhibited at the Real Jardin de Botanico, Madrid, part of PhotoEspana 17 and Skinnerboox, Italy, published Mathematics with 52 colour plates, and essays by Mark Durden, David Campany and an afterword by Peter. The first UK exhibition of Mathematicsopened at Camden Arts Centre, London on the 5th July, and ran to 16th September 2018. The accompanying File Note no 120 published by the gallery, featured a specially commissioned essay The Things That Count by Amy Sherlock, Deputy Editor of Frieze. In March 2021 Peter received a Pollock Krasner Foundation Award, to support the production of new work in the UK and across Europe in the time of Covid-19 ‘paying subtle attention to atmosphere and nuance, quietly reflecting on manifestations of our responses to the enormous changes taking place across the human landscape'. On episode 172, Peter discusses, among other things:The Pollock Krasner Foundation Award.Responses to Covid and his approach.Poetic truth vs. documentary truth. How he came to live in Hebden Bridge, Manchester.Seeing in colour, having made a B&W darkroom. His epiphany in the sahara desert. The influence of the film, Powers of Ten, which he saw at 15.His love of mathematics and how he came to explore it photographically. His Two Blue Buckets image and why it's significant.Staying with William Eggleston in the 80s and what he took away from it.His ‘lost decade', broke in London, printing for Martin Parr and other photographers. Referenced:Jackson PollackTed HughesAlbert Street Workshop - Ray Elliott and Jenny Beavan Martin ParrCharlie MeechamBrian GriffinPaul GrahamCharles and Ray Eames - Powers of TenMax TegmarkThe New Colour Photography by Sally EuclaireJem SouthamWilliam Eggleston Flannery O'connorVolker HelnzMarcus HansenChris Dorley BrownDafna TalmorWolfgang TillmansNick SerotaWilliam ScottDavid ChandlerWebsite | Instagram“I'm absolutely awestruck by the almost incomprehensible beauty and strangeness of everything that is around us. She explores and responds to the relationship between texture, colour and shape mostly based on abstract form but also sometimes observational.Alfie Kungu is an artist whose works are bright and playful, his childhood figurative characters realised with classical painting technique. Familiar cultural motifs are set against contrasting textures and fearless colours, coming together as a vivid expression of Kungu’s headspace. Kungu grew up in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire and went on to study art in Leeds, followed by UWE Bristol graduating in 2016 with First Class BA (Hons) Fine Art. He has exhibited his work at ICA, Cob and HVQ8 Gallery Berlin. Rose Electra Harris is an artist working predominantly as a printmaker, mostly in etching and screen-printing. Entertainment shows from broadcasting giants have incredible power to transmit ideas to huge audiences. Research shows that across countries, we pay more attention to TV on climate than we do to any other forms of media. But on the whole, big budget dramas and soaps remain silent. This week Lucy and Tom, (Coronation Street and Neighbours fans respectively) speak to the award-winning British screenwriter, Lisa Holdsworth about when and how TV drama will step up to the biggest story of our lives. Lisa is entertaining, brilliantly honest (especially about the commissioning process) and full of ideas about how this drama - the battle to get climate more screen-time – might play out. Spoiler: we’ll know we’ve succeeded when the climate crisis becomes a kitchen sink drama in Hebden Bridge, and the kitchen is flooded. Join our conversation with Nyah Grace.  Nyah grew up on her grandparents’ farm in rural Oregon, with hazelnut trees, two cows, three chickens, two cats, a bunch of dogs, three horses and wide-open spaces. As a child, she wanted to be Selena Gomez or Taylor Swift, but discovering Billie Holiday and Alicia Keys in her early teens set her down a different path. That passion for music saw her developing her talents in the basement of the farm, teaching herself piano to be able to write songs and then Logic to transform those ideas into demos. Her momentum soon snowballed. She was discovered by a manager, who whisked her across the Atlantic to work with Michael Kwesi Graves in Brixton and then Steve Chrisanthou in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. For months she went back-and-forth between the two locations and relocated to the UK permanently when she was just 17 years old.The result is her debut album ‘Honey Coloured’. It’s a scintillating blend of neo-soul, R&B and jazz in which Nyah performs with both youthful exuberance and a maturity beyond her tender age. As well as these two new singles, the album also highlights ‘My Sista Told Me’, a duet and co-write with Corinne Bailey Rae. Check out Nyah Grace's latest releases: Sooner or Later - https://open.spotify.com/track/0OGgT8...I Just Wish You'd Call me - https://open.spotify.com/track/5jidwG...Sunday - https://open.spotify.com/track/1LXkjG...  COPYRIGHT © 2020 Bring Back Soul Music.

#011: Joey Miles ‘This book is to help you sit like a mountain, so that when you see the big mountains you’ll know what to look for’. Scott talks to Joey Miles, an authorised level 2 and highly inspiring Ashtanga yoga teacher, about how yoga has evolved through his life.    Joey came to yoga in 1998 and since that time has become one of the most loved and influential Ashtanga yoga teachers teaching in the UK today. Before yoga, Joey had previously pursued the circus, martial arts and physical theatre. On graduating from Goldsmiths University, he began assisting Hamish Hendry at Ashtanga Yoga London and for 3 years he practised and assisted daily. During this time, he spent 2 or 3 months every year in Mysore practicing with Pattabhi Jois and Sharath. In 2004 he was authorised to teach by Pattabhi Jois and he then taught daily Mysore classes from 2005-2008 at Triyoga in Primrose Hill, London. In 2009 he relocated to Hebden Bridge and set up Ashtanga Yoga Leeds with the intention of supporting people’s daily yoga practice, this has now been running for eleven years. Alongside the more traditional ashtanga path, Joey has studied and practiced Iyengar yoga for fifteen years under Alaric Newcombe. Whilst mixing styles is often frowned upon, he finds the change in approach to be remarkably helpful in his personal practice, for allowing variation, and giving support to a wider variety of students’ needs. Joey’s teaching is rigorous and playful and his intention is to bring clarity and emphasis to sound alignment within the ashtanga system thereby demonstrating unity among different schools of postural yoga.   You can find out more about Joey here. _____________ Blending Yoga Traditions - Joey Miles Scott and Joey have known each other for over ten years and have been friends for the past eight. They have a connection that bonds them outside of yoga too. They are both fathers and have a love of dance culture. Scott and Joey spoke in December 2019 where they were both teaching at Purple Valley and have a deeply personal conversation. Joey shares openly and honestly about how his life has evolved through practicing yoga from a young age and shares about his evolution. He talks about how his contemplative practice developed and how his yoga practice, particularly Ashtanga and Iyengar, has evolved through blending both their traditions in a highly insightful and focused way. 'Joey is so articulate. He is ability to share information his so rich and we could have gone on for another hour. Joey's insights on practice are inspiring and the way he talks about blending the practices of Ashtanga and Iyengar is gold. This podcast is essential for those thinking of how to move beyond the strict approach to Ashtanga yoga. Joey's story is of an inspiring inquisitiveness to practice and life.' In this episode, Clare & TB get a little sweary in a bid to live up to their explicit tag. They almost manage it. They talk about writing their joint Cotswolds books. TB is at the saggy, soggy middle, swearing a lot and eating too much ice cream. Clare is at the beginning, where the world is still full of possibility and wonder. Give her a week, and she'll be sobbing, too. Such is the cycle of writing a book! They both agree they're not very outdoorsy (minus lesbian points). However, Clare has booked Indigo Girls tickets (plus points!), TB is going to an Amanda Palmer gig (more points!), and Clare once won a darts trophy (extra bonus points!). When it comes to literary events, both agree they're worth it to network and meet readers. They're also good for inspiration, but tiring too, especially for introverts. TB is off to a bumper crop of events this year, and Clare will be at the Happy Valley Pride in Hebden Bridge. Neither likes entering awards. In fact, they've left Clare a little scarred. The only award they need is a thumbs-up from readers. Yay! Clare & TB are both pleased as punch with the bonanza of comments they've received. Keep them coming, and get a shout-out. Also, tell them what you think of literary events & awards.

Hebden Bridge was once a working class textile town shaped by a culture of chapel and self help. But a new book finds its character transformed by a wave of incomers - from hippies to home workers. The writer Paul Barker talks to Laurie Taylor about community, past and present, in Hebden Bridge. Also, the social historian, Emily Cockayne explores relations between neighbours down the ages. As long as people have lived in shelters they have had people living next door. But how has the support, as well as the noise and nuisance of neighbours changed over time?Producer: Jayne Egerton.
