Chad Myers, also known as "Combat Carnivore," is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, veteran, and advocate for the carnivore diet. After suffering from severe mental and physical health issues, including PTSD, panic attacks, and joint pain, Myers transitioned to a meat-only diet, which he claims dramatically improved his well-being. He now uses his platform to promote the benefits of the carnivore diet, particularly within the Jiu-Jitsu and military veteran communities. Myers has shared his personal transformation in various interviews and podcasts, explaining how the diet helped him overcome anxiety, depression, and other health issues, leading to renewed mental clarity and physical performance. He is active on Instagram and YouTube, where he continues to share his journey and promote the carnivore lifestyle to a broader audience, especially aiming to help others struggling with similar challenges. He also owns a Jiu-Jitsu academy and seeks to extend his influence to help more people, particularly veterans, adopt a carnivore diet for both mental and physical health benefits. Welcome to the podcast. In case you're new here, my name is Arlina and I'll be your host.   Before we jump in, I am going to ask for your help. We have been really lucky to get some amazing guests, and I have a whole list of dream guests that I would love to invite. Experts that are in psychology, trauma therapy, spirituality, but also high profile guests like in sports, movies, and other podcasts.   But in order to get certain guests, we need to have a significant following and a lot of 5 star reviews. It's the first thing they look at. So if you could take a moment to either leave a review on Apple Podcasts if that's how you're listening, or just follow me on Instagram @arlinaallen it would then allow me to get a better response rate. Or shoot, if there's someone you know who would be a great guest, you can reach out to me on IG for that too. Reach out to me anyway and say hi! I would love to hear from you! And as always, there are several free resources at soberlifeschool.com including the newsletter where you can get episodes delivered right to your email inbox.   Today I'm speaking with Bob Stark. He is a combat vet, an author, a family man, a person in long term recovery. Bob shares his story of growing up without a Father, his Mother's multiple marriages, and the one that altered his identity and how all of this set the stage for substance use disorder. Jill Brandl was an RN who worked to become a Holistic Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Despite her education in mental health, Jill needed help with her own burnout from her years in healthcare, as well as dealing with trauma outside of her job. After what she describes as “total burnout”, Jill decided it was time to put herself first and begin the journey to a more healthy life. She stepped away from her job to focus on helping herself so she could continue to help others.Jill says that the mental health of nurses is her passion now. She says that step one to healing is admitting that things have to change and not allowing shame to get in the way of asking for help. Nurses have been taught to think that burnout just goes with the territory and we should just suck it up and move through the exhaustion and difficulty of caring for others. Jill tells us that we must set boundaries, know our worth as people, and not get wrapped up in how we may be perceived if we put ourselves first.Jill now offers help to nurses who are going through burnout or mental health issues. She utilizes evidence-based modalities to help others begin to heal themselves. Jill helps others by using mind-body healing and neuroscience-based flow-state coaching. She also focuses on the root cause of mental health, so that clients can make lasting changes.

How might psychedelics, also known as plant medicine, revolutionize our approach to mental health by offering swift healing for lifelong trauma and PTSD for people in traumatic jobs such as police officers without the need for prolonged traditional therapy? What are the legal ramifications of growing and consuming plant medicine? Asking questions like these is what led to this three part series on Food Heals where we are discussing how plant medicine can help us heal. In this series you are hearing brand new interviews with leading experts in the field of psychedelics who share their personal healing journey as well as how you can access the power of plants to heal yourself as well - Maybe you heard out last episode with Derek the founder Pachamama Sanctuary, and you are ready for your own Ayahuasca retreat or perhaps you want to grow plant medicine at home like Paul taught us in the first episode in the series. Or perhaps you'll be inspired by today's guest current clothing designer and former police officer Nick Motycka who healed 15 years worth of job-related trauma. Nick Motycka was a police officer who was suffering from job related trauma and PTSD. Traditional therapies didn't work, so he explored plant medicine. In a breakthrough session, he processed 15 years of trauma in one day, shifting from severe PTSD to no longer meeting the criteria for a diagnosis. His mind was blown. Now free from trauma's effects, Nick resigned from law enforcement, aligning his life with his values, and founded a clothing company, Flow State Designs. Flow State Designs isn't just about clothes; it's a lifestyle. Nick focuses on using the best textiles, made by workers earning fair wages in Canada, minimizing environmental impact. His hope is that the brand enhances well-being and helps individuals find their unique flow in life. Thank You to Our Sponsors! They go from “zero to a thousand” at the least provocation. They smother themselves into oblivion with drugs and alcohol as night after night of rejuvenating sleep evades them. What, as a society, can we do? My guest this episode is Dr. Janine Sagert and she has an unconventional answer: plant medicine. She was the content producer of the documentary, From Shock to Awe, which follows the transformational journey of veterans with PTSD who open themselves up to the healing potential of these miracle plant medicines.Listen now to hear about how this documentary came to be and how vets can *finally* get some reprieve from the waking nightmare many find themselves in.Coming from a military family and her own personal experiences with psychedelics, Dr. Janine Sagert received her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley with a sub-speciality in altered states of consciousness. She has gone on to coach high-level executives and seminars with meditation. She was the content producer of the documentary From Shock to Awe which follows the transformational journey of veterans with plant medicine. Show Notes:Have you heard of the healing power of plant medicine? What if there was a natural process someone could undergo to help them with trauma, PTSD, and more? Today I welcome Dr. Janine Sagert to the podcast. In this episode, we discuss how plant medicine like Ayahausca can rewire the brain and take the stored emotion out of past traumatic experiences. Dr. Janine Sagert shares how these plants can help calm veterans' nervous systems, rewrite negative stories we hold on to, and learn to love beyond the so-called darkness inside of us. Welcome to episode 87 of Warriors Unmasked! Today Chuck sits down with Mr. Brian Slate! Brian will take a deep dive into his journey of being deployed to Afghanistan, thinking he was getting a light deployment to his plane being hit twice by enemy forces on his first mission. His powerful story is nothing short of heroic. This episode is bound to take you from intrigue, and wonder to hope, understanding, and complete empowerment. Hit play to hear how his time in the Armed Forces equipped him with the mental framework and practical healing techniques anyone can use in their journey of overcoming trauma and PTSD.  Whether you are a veteran yourself or if you have never seen a day of combat, Brian's story is one we can all relate to. 5 months before he was deployed to Afghanistan, Brian married his first wife. It didn't take long for their relationship to go south as Brian started to identify unhealthy mental health issues with his new bride.  Not even the traumatic time he spent in active war could have prepared him for the pain and trauma that awaited him during their impending separation and divorce. Relationship wounds are something we all deal with from a young age, but how we respond is what matters most.  During our conversation, Brian shares the “chair flying” technique and how you can use it to prepare for tough situations and avoid adding any potential or additional pain and trauma in your life and relationships. This one tip can start making the world a better place for everyone!  You'll also hear our thoughts on the importance of gratitude, how to become a more empowered person, how Brian used strategic compartmentalization and so much more! Have you ever wondered what life without PTSD would be like? How things would be different for you if you could sleep through the night? The love you and your partner would share without the lash outs and screaming matches? When I still had PTSD I would think about things like this a lot... and I would always curse my PTSD for now allowing me to have the things I wanted... All I wanted was a chance at the life I watched so many other "normal people" live... have you ever wanted that? If you've ever felt this way, I have some really good news for you... My partner Brad and I just re-launched our podcast and that's *exactly* what we cover in this first episode. We brought the podcast back because the truth is... there's a lot of REALLY bad advice out there. You've probably come across it already. Things like: this is your "new normal" you can't go back to who you were before the only way to make things better is to learn how to cope and so on... The heartbreaking truth is, this false information is costing people their lives. Brad and I do not want this to happen to you too... and that's why we brought the podcast back... so you don't have to lose everything because of bad advice. Thanks for joining us for our first episode back! Please, join us every Monday for new content and renewed hope! The road to healing can be a lonely one, but it doesn't have to be. Shawn Patterson is an Iraq combat veteran who served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. In this episode, he speaks openly about the traumas he experienced both on and off the battlefield, and how those traumas ultimately led him to a path of healing his PTSD through working with ayahuasca and other plant medicines. We are honored to share this very personal and inspiring story with you. EP 016 | Shawn Patterson, Army Combat Veteran on Healing PTSD with Ayahuasca In this episode, Shawn shares about... Growing up in the 90's era of street crime, drugs, and choosing to join the Army as a way out Enlisting and heading into basic training one month after September 11th Transitioning from civilian life into military life, where emotions like fear were not encouraged or expressed Going into combat in Kuwait in 2003, at the beginning of the Shock and Awe phase of the Iraq War The reality of life in the military, getting into a rhythm, and normalizing living in a war zone Surviving, training, and the strong character of people living with the daily threat of combat Coming to terms with possibly not making it home Returning home after a year on the front lines, feeling older than your age, and feeling alien after the experience Feeling anger around veterans being portrayed as victims in the media What the PTSD and trauma experience looked like for him Using drugs and alcohol as an ineffective coping tool and hitting multiple rock bottoms Deciding to work with ayahuasca in Ecuador and facing unrealistic expectations Working with plant medicine over time with a spiritual community Getting help from the VA, and why the pharmaceutical approach doesn't solve the whole problem for everyone The problem with 12 step programs Finding a winding spiritual path with plant medicine and digging into core issues Getting reminders and new perspectives from ayahuasca and feeling empowered to make life changes Shifting his consciousness toward self-care and away from the victim mentality Cultivating gratitude Making big decisions and life changes with the guidance of the medicines Building a long term, respectful relationship with ayahuasca, San Pedro, and peyote Following a minimum effective dose strategy coupled with integration and doing the work The BIG integration lesson Plant medicines and appreciating being sober Avoiding patterns of taking plant medicine without purpose Advice for veterans who are interested in working with plant medicines If you enjoyed this episode, please leave us a review HERE.
