Extreme Genes - America's Family History and Genealogy Radio Show & Podcast
Host Scott Fisher opens the show with David Allen Lambert, Chief Genealogist of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and AmericanAncestors.org. They begin Family Histoire News with the story of a dog that served on both sides of the Revolutionary War! David explains. Then, how would you like to have access to over 59,000 dissertations on countless subjects? Dave will tell you where to find them. Who knew that pants were so controversial in Roman times? David will tell you how pants went from banned to required! In Israel, those caves that brought us the Dead Sea Scrolls have now given us more ancient treasures. Hear what they are. In Egypt, 19th century graffiti, where Europeans left their mark on ancient edifices, is being researched to learn who those people were. And finally, DNA work on 1,100 skulls is tying these dead people to their descendants. Hear who is doing the work. Next, over two segments, Fisher visits with Matamba Austin of Frisco, Texas. Matamba was born and raised in New York City. He also saw the world in travels with his mother, a worker at the United Nations. Hear how a dream and a revelation from his mother changed his life and sent him on a decades long journey to identify his freedom-fighter father in Africa. Then, David returns for more of Ask Us Anything. That's all this week on Extreme Genes, America's Family History Show!
Can't Find My Way Home is a podcast where Expats from around the world talk about the music and arts scene in their new home. In this episode, I was joined by Robert Castelli. In this excerpt, Robert tells us about how life as a working musician has changed immeasurably in the past twenty years. We get into a few other things along the way too. Robert is a native of Ossining, New York…Born into a family of drummers (a grandfather, two uncles & his father) and currently resides in Barcelona, Spain. In this episode of Can't Find My Way Home, I was joined by Robert Castelli. Robert is a native of Ossining, New York…Born into a family of drummers (a grandfather, two uncles & his father), Robert learned the basics from his father, who, along with his Uncle, were lifetime members of the NYC Musicians Union. We get into the finer aspects of Robert's expat journey and how it's taken him first to Austria and now on to Barcelona where he's called home for six years. Robert and I discuss his family roots in the music business. What's it like being a drummer who writes music for the band? How he got into jazz in the first place, his musical influences, the modern economic model for musicians today, how the perception of music has changed,as well as apocryphal tales of Frank Zappa. We get a bit grammatical - pre and post covid plans, and Robert tells us how working as an investment broker in New York enabled him to pursue his career in music. In the Top 5, we have Iggy Pop, singing drummers…and the complexities there of, Medeski Martin & Wood, not being fans of Ginger Baker or Keith Moon (in a manner of speaking), and late night Karaoke in NYC, and why all roads lead to Miles Davis… All this and we ponder - just what are the three things people don't have any more? John Santerineross is an American photographer, born in New York City with a background in ceramics and painting, known for his dark, provocative and erotic imageries. His photography is inspired by Greek mythology, world religion and iconography focusing on the spiritual, the subconscious and dreams. He is influenced by the early symbolists’ belief that “the creation of a mood is as important as the transmission of information; it must also seek to engage the entire mind and personality of the viewer by appealing to the viewer’s emotions and unconscious mind, as well as to their intellect”. Although he coined the term "Black Symbolist" to better describe his work, he has been called the "World Leading Neo-Symbolist Artist" by ProfiFoto, Germany's leading photography magazine. Driven by passion, creativity and dedication, throughout his career, his refusal to be limited by any one medium has led him to master multiple artistic disciplines; he has been a ceramist, sculptor, painter, and mixed media artist. For that reason, he does not like to be classified or categorized and prefers to let the viewer decide and define. He has recently delved into the world of moving images and has already directed several short art films. Currently, Santerineross is in the preproduction phase of an adaptation of an avante-garde short story entitled “Ningyoushi”. Santerineross' photography has been shown nationally and internationally, all over the world. His work has appeared in some of dark pioneer electronic artist Martin Bowes' ATTRITION albums : The Hand that Feeds, Keepsakes and Reflections, The Jeopardy Maze, Dante's Kitchen, Sliding Horse One and Desolution. Santerineross' first book is called Fruit of the Secret God from 1999, published in a limited number. His second book, Dream, 2004 and his 3rd book is to be released in 2021.https://www.santerineross.com
