Hiring is never just about plugging a hole. It's a strategic leadership move—and when rushed or mismanaged, it can quietly sabotage your entire practice. In Part 2 of the Hiring Series, Dana and Sandy dive deep into what happens between identifying a hiring need and getting the green light to bring someone on board. From pecking orders to prep work, leadership courage to legal compliance, they unpack everything you should have in place before you hit “post job ad.” They also share formulas and benchmarks to help you bring data—not just emotion—into your hiring decisions. Because the right people in the right seats don't just ease stress... they build your business. You'll learn how to: ✅ Calculate attrition rate and turnover cost ✅ Know when leadership is lagging—and how to step up ✅ Use team dynamics and KPIs to confirm true staffing needs ✅ Spot red flags in candidates and existing team members ✅ Make confident decisions about who to keep, who to lose, and when to act fast
Chuck Todd criticizes the controversial military birthday parade planned by Trump in Washington, D.C., which marks both the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary and Trump's 79th birthday. He calls out the event as a politicization of the military, a costly spectacle ($25–$45 million) that could have been spent addressing critical social needs such as homeless veterans, Medicaid funding, or infrastructure repair. He takes particular issue with the military personnel being vetted for political loyalty to Trump, which undermines the traditionally apolitical nature of the military and risks eroding public trust. Chuck examines the broader consequences of Trump's actions, including his use of military intervention in domestic unrest and harsh rhetoric against protestors, which contributes to the dangerous polarization of Americans and threatens democratic norms.Chuck Todd sits down with former Congresswoman Barbara Comstock to discuss her ongoing efforts to reform the Republican Party from within and the challenges facing the GOP in the Trump era. Comstock argues that the party's fundamental problem isn't ideological but character-based, as Republicans have abandoned character as a voting issue and are now required to lie to their voters to maintain political viability. She believes reform must come from the bottom up through state and local politics, which have been less infected by Trumpism, and warns that MAGA Republicans' indifference to whether government actually works has created a dangerous dynamic where loyalty to Trump is the only qualification that matters. The conversation explores the practical consequences of Republican governance, from potential Medicaid cuts that could devastate rural hospitals and long-term care facilities, to the party's abandonment of Christian principles regarding care for the vulnerable. Comstock sees an opportunity for reform during the eventual succession fight after Trump, arguing that it will take just one person of character to begin rebuilding the party. She's particularly critical of figures like JD Vance, whom she describes as a charlatan who cannot represent the party's future, while expressing cautious optimism about leaders like Glenn Youngkin. Throughout the discussion, Comstock draws parallels to international politics, praising Zelenskyy as the world's greatest leader while condemning the Tucker Carlson wing of the party for siding with Putin, ultimately arguing that voters will punish incumbents of both parties if government continues to fail.00:00 Introduction01:05 The two types of ex-Repubicans03:40 The bleak future of the two-party system04:30 Trump's military birthday parade07:20 Longterm damage of politicizing the military08:55 Conservative's absurd renaming of Confederate bases11:30 The HUGE price of this military parade13:30 What the $45 million COULD have been used to fix15:10 Why politicizing the military would be end of the republic16:00 How this stunt is escalating tensions w/ ongoing protests17:15 Why this Trump scandal is particularly un-American19:45 Barbara Comstock joins the Chuck ToddCast!20:45 Efforts to reform the Republican party from within23:00 State and local level politics have been less infected by Trumpism25:15 Republicans are required to lie to their voters26:15 Reform will come from the bottom up27:00 Character is a bigger problem for Republicans than ideology28:30 Republicans have given up on character as a voting issue30:30 Winsome Earle-Sears has capitulated to the Trump movement33:15 Should Republicans embrace Trump's ideology but with high character candidates?35:15 MAGA Republicans don't care if government doesn't work36:00 Loyalty is the only qualification Trump cares about39:00 Attrition and incentives are a better way of cutting government42:15 Emergency care for illegal immigrants is mandated by law43:00 Christian Republicans want to kick the samaritan to the curb44:00 Medicaid cuts will cause rural hospitals to close45:00 Medicaid sustains the long term care industry46:45 Congress has abdicated its responsibility to govern48:15 It takes one person of character to begin reforming the GOP49:15 There will be opportunity for reform during the succession fight50:45 When you make government work well, voters notice52:00 Could Republicans get wiped out like the Tories in the UK?53:30 Zelenskyy is the greatest leader on the world stage55:00 The Tucker Carlson wing has sided with Putin56:15 Can a non MAGA Republican win over MAGA voters in the future?58:45 Howard Lutnick and Linda McMahon have looked clueless1:00:15 The Republican party has become an anti-intellectual party1:01:30 Has JD Vance always been a charlatan?1:03:30 JD Vance can't be the future of the party1:04:45 Is Glenn Youngkin redeemable?1:07:00 Trump will want to anoint his successor1:07:30 Who are some current Republicans that could reclaim the GOP?1:10:15 The potential GOP reformer needs to be someone new1:13:15 Voters won't be kind to incumbents of either party1:17:45 Analyzing the Musk-Trump breakup1:22:30 What would happen if Trump... raised taxes on billionaires?

In this episode, Letty Sharp sits down with Nathan Price (vocals) and Ocean McCormack (guitars) of Limerick metal band War of Attrition. The band is gearing up to play the Tullamore Phoenix Metal Festival on May 31 at John Lee's Bar & Venue—a one-day charity event in support of the National Missing Persons Helpline. The festival also shines a spotlight on the ongoing search for Luke Price, who has been missing for over three months. Luke's brother, Nathan Price, leads the band with a deep personal connection to the cause. The conversation also dives into War of Attrition's searing new single, “The Devil You've Become”—a politically charged track that condemns the actions of Israel in the Middle East, aligning the band with a bold tradition of metal as a vehicle for protest and awareness. Beyond the music, Letty, Nathan, and Ocean explore themes of grief, activism, community, and the cathartic power of heavy music. It's an emotional, thought-provoking, and essential listen for metal fans and beyond. Please SUBSCRIBE to The Metal Cell YouTube channel. In this episode we discuss: Why do so many of us choose the countercultural life of Orthodox Judaism? What leads someone to leave a religious community—or seek out a more insular one? How do we create a Jewish world that is sticky, rich, and spiritually nourishing? Tune in to hear a conversation about why we leave Jewish communities and, maybe more importantly, why we stay. Interview begins at 9:29.Moshe Krakowski is a professor at the Azrieli Graduate School for Jewish Education and Administration at Yeshiva University, where he also directs Azrieli's doctoral program. He studies American Haredi education and culture, focusing on the relationship between communal worldview, identity, and education. Harriet Frost is a force of energy, endurance, and entrepreneurial grit. From completing the notorious Arc of Attrition 100-mile ultra twice, to directing multiple trail races, to co-founding a menstrual cup company focused on sustainable period care for athletes — Harriet is redefining what it means to pursue hard things, in business and on the trail. In this episode, Harriet shares her journey from growing up in Cornwall to discovering a love of endurance sport later in life — despite hating running at first. With no formal coaching, she's built her own training strategy based on experience, discipline, and gut instinct — and it's taken her to the finish lines of some of the UK's most brutal ultra events. We also dive into the founding of Sea+Flo, a period care company created by women, for women, aiming to empower people to better understand and manage their menstrual health during sport. Harriet speaks candidly about the mental strength required to train alone, run in the dark, and manage periods while racing, as well as her mission to bring more female voices to the forefront of adventure and endurance media. This is a conversation about grit, vulnerability, and showing up — again and again — even when the path ahead is long, muddy, and uncertain. Get ahead of the chaos—book your call now: https://calendly.com/spf-leo/spf-mastermind-discovery-call What's up, guys—Uncle Vinny here.I'm back behind the mic after some travel and life stuff… but this one's important. We're diving into two big topics today: tariffs and retention—and how both are about to smack gym owners right in the face if you're not paying attention. I break down what I've learned from some seriously smart finance people (not from watching the news), and explain how this stuff could affect your clients and your business. But most importantly—I'm sharing exactly what we did at Gabriele Fitness to drop our attrition rate to 1.5%. That's the lowest it's ever been. I'm talking real strategies, real results—no fluff. If you're trying to keep your members happy, showing up, and not canceling, you'll want to hear this one. Top 5 Key PointsFocus on What You Can Actually ControlYou can't control the economy, politics, or what China does. But you can control your fitness, your food, your time, your team—and how hard you work. Do that.Fear is in the Air—That Affects SpendingTariffs are creating uncertainty, and uncertainty makes people think twice before spending money. If your clients feel unsure, your gym could end up on the chopping block—unless you show them you're worth every penny.Keep What You've GotWhen it gets harder to bring in new leads, your best bet is to double down on the clients you already have. Our motto: Operation: Don't Lose Anybody. That's how we cut attrition to 1.5%.Add Real Value (Not More Sessions)Personalization, connection, and community win. Automated birthday emails don't cut it. We did stuff like personalized holiday videos and ran an epic March Madness event just for members. That's what people actually care about.Don't Be Afraid to Lead HardWhen someone tries to cancel or go on hold, challenge them. Remind them why they started. People are secretly begging to be led—especially in times like these. Be the leader they're looking for. Want a fresh set of eyes on your business? In this episode of Coach to Scale, we sit down with Tony Burnside, SVP of APJ at Netskope, to dismantle the outdated playbook on sales leadership. Tony challenges the myth that effective managers need to lead through pressure, fear, or control. Instead, he shares his approach to building high-performing, culturally aligned teams, starting with hiring good humans, creating space for accountability, and making coaching a non-negotiable part of the manager's role. With over 200 reps across 15 countries under his leadership, Tony's insights are battle-tested and globally relevant. We dig into what it takes to scale culture across borders, what most leaders miss in their 1:1s, and why every resignation is, as Tony puts it, “a performance review for leadership.” Whether you're a CRO trying to stabilize performance or a frontline leader drowning in deals and check-the-box coaching, this episode delivers practical frameworks and hard-earned lessons for leveling up your org without burning out your team.Key Takeaways:1. Culture drives performance, not charisma or controlBurnside argues that strong sales cultures don't emerge from aggressive personalities but from clarity, consistency, and mutual respect across the organization.2. Good human first" is a hiring filter, not a luxuryHe prioritizes character over credentials, explaining that people who want to win as a team outperform lone wolves in the long run.3. Every resignation is a leadership review.Attrition isn't just HR's concern; Tony reframes it as direct feedback on your leadership brand and your managers' effectiveness.4. Yes, you can be friends with your reps if you're still willing to hold them accountableBurnside pushes back on the false tradeoff between camaraderie and performance, noting that trust and accountability aren't mutually exclusive.5. Global coaching cultures require local empathy.Leading in APJ taught him that you can't copy-paste U.S. management styles into Japan or India; success comes from adjusting expectations and coaching cadence to cultural norms.6. Managers need a litmus test for connection and respectHe shares a personal test: if you wouldn't grab a drink with a rep while traveling, they may not be the right cultural fit for your team.7. Most managers don't know how to coach because they were never taughtTony calls out the common pattern of promoting star reps without equipping them to lead, which leads to tactical, deal-centric 1:1s instead of skill development.8. He invests personally in his own growth and expects others to do the sameFrom Dale Carnegie to Sandler, Tony's career changed after he paid out of pocket for training; he sees self-investment as a signal of leadership potential.10. Coaching must be operationalized, not left to chance or personalityInformal, unstructured coaching creates inconsistency and lost opportunities; managers need frameworks and tools to coach effectively at scale.Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0Yb1wPzUxyrfR0Dx35ym1A Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-build-a-coaching-culture/id1699901434 Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NvYWNoMnNjYWxlLWhvdy1tb2Rlcm4tbGVhZGVycy1idWlsZC1hLWNvYWNoaW5nLWN1bHR1cmU Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/fd188af6-7c17-4b2e-a0b2-196ecd6fdf77 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/coach2scale-how-modern-leaders-5419703 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Coach2Scale CoachEm™ is the first Coaching Execution Platform that integrates deep learning technology to proactively analyze patterns, highlight the "why" behind the data with root causes, and identify the actions that will ultimately improve business results going forward. First of all, the Zucker's Bagels guys drop by to give us a little treat-treat on Opening Day. It's Opening Day for the Mets and Yankees and we are lucky enough to root for teams that can actually compete for a World Series. The Yankees have a new center fielder and first baseman. Boomer said the season is a ‘war of attrition', battling injuries throughout the season. The Mets sold out of all of their season ticket packages so the stadium should be full all season. The Dodgers open with the Tigers and then play three straight NL East teams. Pete Alonso should set the Mets all time HR record and Boomer can see him hitting over 50.
Opening Day for the Mets and Yankees highlighted their competitive status, with the Yankees debuting new players and the Mets boasting sold-out season tickets. Boomer emphasized the season's "war of attrition" nature. The Dodgers' schedule and Pete Alonso's potential home run record were discussed, along with Francisco Alvarez's injuries. Jerry's update featured Clay Holmes's Opening Day start, Rafael Devers's DH role, and Russell Wilson's press conference. A humorous anecdote about Shaun Morash and Ciara was shared. The Knicks' loss and LeBron James's elevator story were covered. The hour concluded with Dave Sims's first Yankees Opening Day game and speculation about Shohei Ohtani's pitching return.

For the 33rd installment of the Fanzine Podcast, we welcome Chris Coleman, former editor of at least two important ‘zines from the 1980s post-punk UK Midlands: Stringent Measures and What A Nice Way To Turn Seventeen. The first of these zines straddled a vibrant local indie scene that included the likes of Eyeless In Gaza, In Embrace, Attrition, and the Glass Records label (about which Chris put together a special edition) along with Chris's evident excitement for early U2. What A Nice Way To Turn Seventeen, while maintaining the fanzine format, declared itself musically with a first issue featuring interviews with The Waterboys, The Alarm - and Johnny Thunders, to whom it later dedicated a special issue (as it did Marc Bolan). WANWTTS also put out physical vinyl – EP's and albums alike - that included the likes of The Jazz Butcher, Jasmine Minks, The Membranes, Mike Scott and Nikki Sudden, and which therefore continued to place the zine at the heart of the mid-80s indie music scene. To this day, Chris continues to release records of lost archived recordings on his Seventeen label.Chris spent a Friday night indoors chatting with podcast host Tony Fletcher about his fanzine experiences back in the day. Other fanzines mentioned in this episode include Bucketful Of Brains, Alternative Sounds and Adventures In Reality, and the conversation also diverges into the likes of R.E.M. and The Smiths. We get to hear how Chris's parents once collated and stapled and distributed zines for him while he was on holiday, and we find out which of the aforementioned musicians once commented to him, “You have great veins.” (Hint: it should be obvious.)Visit https://tonyfletcher.substack.com/p/what-a-nice-way-to-turn-seventeen for images of some vintage What A Nice Way To Turn Seventeen, to find similar posts and pages dedicated to earlier Fanzine Podcasts, and for Tony's twice-weekly writings. Thanks to Noel Fletcher for the theme music, and Greg Morton at Omnibus Press for the logo template. The Best of Jamming!: Selections and Stories from the Fanzine That Grew Up 1977-86 is available from here. For most people, running a 100 mile race is an enormous undertaking, that requires months of diligent training. This week's guest, Basil Heaney, takes a different approach. He enjoys racing more than training, which means that he runs multiple ultra-distance races every year. Most recently, he ran the Winter Downs 200, the Winter Spine race (268 miles), and the Arc of Attrition (100 miles) within a seven week period. Some may call him crazy! Kenton talks to Basil about why he chooses to do this and how he approaches it. They also discuss Basil's 'passion project', a charity called Into Ultra that he has recently founded to help people whose financial barriers prevent them from running ultras. Although Kenton has not run an ultra, he and Basil find common ground in a love for the outdoors, the joy of running, the freedom of ski touring and a shared appreciation of Italian refugios! What's Basil reading: The Wasp Factory by Ian Banks What's Basil listening to: The Tea and Trails podcast

Sixteen years ago, CNBC commentator Rick Santelli stood on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and delivered an impassioned rant against federal plans to bail out struggling homeowners. “Do we really want to subsidize the losers' mortgages?” he shouted, calling for a “Chicago Tea Party” to protest government intervention. That moment became the rallying cry for a movement that would reshape conservative politics, define opposition to the Obama presidency, and eventually evolve into the MAGA movement that has since won the White House twice.Lately, the Tea Party has been on my mind because of the way political movements are often dismissed by their opponents. In liberal circles, one word was frequently used to wave off the Tea Party: astroturf.“This isn't a grassroots movement,” critics insisted. “It's funded by billionaires to look like a populist uprising.” After all, it started on CNBC—hardly a blue-collar favorite. But that's not the whole story. And now, in 2024, astroturfing accusations are being hurled in the opposite direction.Last week, Republican Rep. Rich McCormick of Georgia faced a hostile crowd at a town hall in Roswell. The moment (captured in a widely circulated video) showed Democrats in his district voicing their frustration, pushing back forcefully against GOP policies. In response, conservatives dismissed the backlash as manufactured outrage, a coordinated effort by the so-called “deep state” to rattle the Republican establishment.Sound familiar? To understand whether today's Democratic anger is real or manufactured, it's worth looking back at how the Tea Party took shape. While Santelli's on-air rant is widely credited with sparking the Tea Party, grassroots opposition to Obama's policies had already begun. Keli Carender, a blogger in Seattle, organized an anti-stimulus protest even before Santelli's speech. Her February 2009 demonstration—dubbed the “Porkulus Protest”—drew about 100 people. But once Santelli's rant went viral, Tea Party protests exploded across the country. Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter helped coordinate events, and by April's Tax Day, an estimated quarter-million people took to the streets in organized demonstrations. Conservative media played a crucial role in amplifying the movement. Fox News hosts like Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity championed Tea Party causes, helping grow its ranks. Soon, prominent Republican figures lent their support, though the movement remained largely decentralized.By the summer of 2009, as Obamacare made its way through Congress, Tea Party activists shifted their strategy. Instead of street protests, they flooded town halls, confronting Democratic lawmakers with fiery opposition. Videos of these clashes—angry constituents challenging their representatives—became a defining image of the movement. And electorally, the Tea Party had teeth. While it failed to topple the Republican establishment entirely (Mitt Romney still won the 2012 nomination), it helped flip House seats and push the GOP further to the right. What does the Tea Party teach us about today's Democratic opposition?* It's never too early to be angry. Santelli's rant came barely a month after Obama took office. Right now, Trump's disapproval ratings are rising, but Democrats haven't yet rallied around a singular issue.* Movements can make an impact—especially in the House. The Tea Party didn't need to control the White House to change the political landscape. A handful of flipped seats can shift the balance of power.* Dismissing protests as ‘astroturf' is risky. If the same kind of town hall showdowns seen in McCormick's district begin happening elsewhere, they could turn into a trend. The Tea Party was fueled by a raw, pent-up anger over fiscal conservatism. Many conservatives felt betrayed by their own party—George W. Bush had campaigned on balanced budgets, only to expand deficits through wars and bailouts. Obama's presidency, with its ambitious government programs, only amplified those frustrations. The question for Democrats now is: What's their version of that anger? If it's simply opposition to Trump, that's not enough. Even figures like Elon Musk—despised by many progressives—aren't sustainable political villains. “Musk sent another email” isn't a battle cry that will mobilize voters in the long run. That's why Democratic strategists should be tickled by what just happened in the House. They (impressively) passed a budget that, while avoiding direct mention of Medicaid, includes $880 billion in cuts overseen by the Energy and Commerce Committee—which just happens to control Medicaid. Why the cuts? Because fiscal hawks in the House need a way to offset the Trump tax cuts. For Democrats, that's a classic, politically potent message: Republicans are cutting your Medicaid to give tax cuts to the rich.If they can harness that into a movement—one that gets people angry enough to show up at town halls, knock on doors, and vote—then history might just be repeating itself.Podcast Chapters & Timecodes* 00:00:00 – Introduction* 00:01:58 – The Tea Party's Legacy and Lessons for Democrats* 00:14:55 – Dan Bongino Becomes FBI's Second-in-Command* 00:19:15 – MSNBC's Prime-Time Shake-Up & Network Struggles* 00:22:58 – NYC Mayor Eric Adams' Re-Election Challenges* 00:26:27 – Interview with Brian Sack on Ukraine & DEI Policies* 01:05:28 – Wrap-Up This is a public episode. Thanks to our Partners, NAPA TRACS, and Today's Class The "Great Correction" refers to a shift in the industry after a period of relative ease, likely due to pandemic related factors. The key concerns include a decrease in online searches for auto repair, rising costs, increased competition from dealerships, labor shortages, rapid advancements in technology (EVs, ADAS, AI), and the need to explore new revenue opportunities like key services, ADAS calibration, tires, and truck repairs. These issues suggest that the strategies that worked in the past may no longer be effective.
