BR BAND z Żor i Rybnika przeniesie nas do czasów klasycznego bluesa, Hard Rockets z Pszczyny zaprezentują swoje bluesowo-southern-rockowe brzmienie, a CANNONBALL rozgrzeje publiczność potężnym hard rockiem w stylu Deep Purple i Uriah Heep. Today's episode is about "Not Not Jazz", a 2024 film about the trio Medeski Martin & Wood, directed by Jason Miller. Our guest today is Josh Frisch of the Dad Rocks podcast, which we were on years ago, and now we get to return the favor. As you'll hear, there was a bit of confusion, as Andy ended up watching a different MMW documentary. But we made it work. "Not Not Jazz" asks as many questions as it answers - when was it filmed? What happened to the music that was being recorded during the filming of the movie? Why is it coming out now? Is music really its own kind of language, man? Chris Wood is going back to his roots, so to speak. When not on the road or in the studio shredding amazing bass lines in his band The Wood Brothers, he's on his farm in British Columbia, Canada, tilling the land and getting his hands dirty! Amongst all that hard work, Chris has found the time to co-produce The Wood Brothers' latest album released on April 14, Heart is the Hero, recorded analog on 16-track tape. In going back to a more traditional recording process, Chris has once again broken new (and old) ground with his brother and Wood Brothers co-founder, Oliver Wood along with multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix on percussion and keys! Chris is an intriguing and well-rounded musician, coming from a jazz / improv background with Medeski Martin & Wood to the Americana vibes of The Wood Brothers. He is equal parts philosopher, farmer, producer, touring musician, and Dad -- and simply an all-around intriguing human -- who moves in a direction and then goes for it. The life balance for Chris is really what is important -- the key to which is constantly challenging himself in a multitude of ways in order remain steady, vibrant and excited as he hits the road touring in 2023. Make sure to check out this stellar interview with one of the most intriguing artists out there today, Chris Wood of The Wood Brothers!!
Curtis 2. Where's Sly? 3. Coconut Boogaloo 4. Queen Bee *Suscríbete a nuestro canal. In this episode of Can't Find My Way Home, I was joined by Robert Castelli. Robert is a native of Ossining, New York…Born into a family of drummers (a grandfather, two uncles & his father), Robert learned the basics from his father, who, along with his Uncle, were lifetime members of the NYC Musicians Union. We get into the finer aspects of Robert's expat journey and how it's taken him first to Austria and now on to Barcelona where he's called home for six years. Robert and I discuss his family roots in the music business. What's it like being a drummer who writes music for the band? How he got into jazz in the first place, his musical influences, the modern economic model for musicians today, how the perception of music has changed,as well as apocryphal tales of Frank Zappa. We get a bit grammatical - pre and post covid plans, and Robert tells us how working as an investment broker in New York enabled him to pursue his career in music. In the Top 5, we have Iggy Pop, singing drummers…and the complexities there of, Medeski Martin & Wood, not being fans of Ginger Baker or Keith Moon (in a manner of speaking), and late night Karaoke in NYC, and why all roads lead to Miles Davis… All this and we ponder - just what are the three things people don't have any more? This week on Comes A Time Mike and Oteil are joined by DJ Logic! You'll hear the guys discuss DJ Logic's formative musical influences that he listened to while growing up in The Bronx, the improvisational spirit of his music, and linking up with Medeski, Martin, and Wood at CBGB. He is widely credited for introducing jazz into the realms of hip–hop, and is considered by most as a highly-respected session musician and an innovative bandleader. Since his emergence in the early nineties amidst the Bronx hip-hop scene, the New York City based deejay has amassed a veritable mountain of collaborations, including a full-fledged band with members of Blues Traveler (The John Popper Project ft. Jake Truelove is a son, a brother, a partner, a father, a business owner, and a tried-and-true fan of the greatest rock-and-roll band in American history.I was pleased as punch to get Jake in the chair for Episode #39 of Badass Records Podcast, and we were able to mix it up over not only his favorite Phish album, Live in Brooklyn (2006), but also his current love, Goose.I've known Jake for most of a decade and he's a go-getter that knows what he wants, and makes no bones about the way in which he gets there. He's the third fan of the Denver Broncos Football Club that I've had on as a guest, and -- thankfully -- it's all bad-punchline jokes for that AFC West franchise this season. And here in the heartland, we of course hope that that trend continues.I'm glad you're here reading these words, and since you've come this far, please consider doing me a solid and give our conversation a listen or a view. When this drops, we'll be 10 days into November, which I think is deep enough into the calendar year to officially call this the holiday season. To that end, I hope that the coming weeks find you hanging with friends and loved ones whose company you enjoy.Cheers to you and yours, and consider being kind to strangers as we start the journey toward 2023.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the intro/outro audio. They are clips taken from a tune called, "A Go Go," which is the title track from a 1998 John Scofield record (c/o The Verve Music Group, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc.) that features Medeski Martin & Wood. That last phrase should be enough information to let you know that A Go Go is, in fact, a badass record.
John Ingle, a.k.a. "Jingle," (or, Son of Bingle) sacrificed a portion of one of his recent Saturdays and sat with me in the Badass Records Podcast studio for a hot minute to chat about his upbringing, his creative endeavors, and a few of his favorite records.John's one of the smartest guys I know. His archived level of detail, intellect, and understanding go way beyond my comprehension, and for those (among other) reasons, I consider it an honor and a privilege that we got to chew the fat for a few hours. When he's not writing screenplay scripts at the local coffee shop or kicking it with his son, Archer, John can likely be found taking in some playoff baseball or revisiting one of his favorite cinematic relics.During Episode #38, we talked about John Coltrane's Giant Steps (1960), Double Nickels on the Dime (1984) by Minutemen, and The Low End Theory (1991) by A Tribe Called Quest. Our conversation was not "short and sweet," like that one Bob Dylan wrote about in "You're a Big Girl Now." Instead, it was quasi-lengthy and educational. It was also good fun. Hope you'll check it out.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the intro/outro audio clips. They are samples taken from a track called "Syeeda's Song Flute" that Medeski Martin & Wood included for their 1993 record, It's a Jungle in Here (c/o Rykodisc Inc.), and even though that particular track's a Coltrane cover from the very album Mr. Ingle selected, it's featured on one of the undisputed badassest records of all time. If you don't have it in your library, please remedy that today. It'll set ya' free.

This week's guest is Billy Martin aka Illy B, a world-renown drummer, educator, visual artist, filmmaker, record label owner, non-profit organizer, and author…but above all else…he's a Creative through and through. If you enjoy this episode, please go check out Billy's interview with Mike Dawson on the Drum Candy podcast titled “Improvising and Cultivating a Creative Mindset”. Verrrryy fruitful. Billy has collaborated with some of the best out there including but not limited to John Scofield, John Zorn, Iggy Pop, Natalie Merchant, Flea, Bill Laswell, and Mickey Hart, but many people know him from his work with Medeski, Martin, and Wood featuring himself, John Medeski and Chris Wood. I recently checked out his “Anti-Instructional” movie filmed alongside fellow teacher and friend Allen Herman titled “Life on Drums” and I can't recommend it enough. We discuss the unique structure of the movie towards the end of our conversation, but we start off talking about soloing…something which Billy encourages all drummers to do fist thing when sitting behind the kit, “even if just for five minutes”. We also get into a bunch of my insecurities surrounding creativity before jumping into the records that shaped billy into the amazing musician he is today. Lots of good stuff in this one ya'll. Cheers!Podcast Artwork by Trevin Frame For more information on Big Fat Snare Drum, check out www.bigfatsnaredrum.com and follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok

You may know Oliver Wood as one half of the Wood Brothers, the other half being Chris Wood who also plays in Medeski Martin and Wood. Always Smilin' is Oliver's first solo record, but this savvy music veteran isn't a newbie, and is well versed in blues, folk, gospel, country-soul and Americana music. This record shines a bright light on Oliver's songwriting prowess, his unique guitar playing, and his very memorable voice. I caught up with Oliver to talk about the record, and wondered if this record gets made, or even put out if not for the pandemic… First Song: 00:14: Kindness Interview Begins: 03:56 Extro Song: 25:39: Get The Blues See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dale play! Más información: www.radioborder.com.ar

Growing up, Oliver Wood thought he'd try the bass guitar, but after 6 months, he handed it to his younger brother Chris. That's right, *the* Chris Wood, virtuosic bassist of acclaimed Medeski Martin and Wood. Even at a young age, the brothers' styles were pretty clear. While Chris was getting intense about the bass, Oliver was meandering on the guitar and forging his own musical path. He ended up in Atlanta and eventually got a spot in Tinsley Ellis' band, a very well respected blues player. Oliver was playing guitar and singing background vocals, but soon enough he was shifting to the spotlight. It turns out that Tinsley was a really important mentor for Oliver: he taught him the ins and outs of the business and encouraged him to sing. After touring hard for 15 years, Oliver and his brother met up again at a fateful shared 2004 bill. He sat in with MM&W and the brothers immediately felt that familial connection through their performance. They decided to keep up playing together and formed The Wood Brothers.Coming together in the band, Chris and Oliver discovered that the music of their folk-singing father, Bill Wood, was acting as a huge inspiration. Bill spent time on the folk circuit surrounding Cambridge, MA in the 1950s, performing with legends like Joan Baez. He would settle down with a career as a biology teacher, but kept the spirit of folk music alive for his boys. Oliver talks about how forming a band around that sound made him appreciate his father in new ways. Seven albums later and The Wood Brothers are one of the most beloved bands in the Americana community. Oliver, who is motivated by connection and community, spent 2019 co-writing with various touring musicians making their way through Nashville. While this project was just for fun, he found the results inspiring enough to make a solo album during the 2020 pandemic, resulting in his debut album, Always Smiling. Oliver talks about choosing joy, connection and feeling grounded through meditation, which has helped him immensely through the last 14 months. Thank you, Oliver! Today, I have the pleasure of sharing a conversation I had with Oliver Wood. Since 2004, Oliver has been the frontman of The Wood Brothers, blurring the boundaries between folk, gospel, country-soul, and blues, earning an international audience and a Grammy Award-nomination along the way. Alongside his brother Chris Wood, of Medeski Martin and Wood, as well as percussionist Jano Rix, The Wood Brothers have embodied the future of roots music, while at the same time turning it on its head. Released yesterday, Oliver's debut solo album, Always Smilin' reimagines his sharp songwriting, savvy guitar chops, and one-of-a-kind voice in a new light. He didn't do it alone, as Jano Rix, Susan Tedeschi, Hiss Golden Messenger's Phil Cook, John Medeski, and several others also make appearances. Embracing the full range of his musical heritage, Always Smilin' builds upon the blues and gospel sounds Oliver explored long before The Wood Brothers' formed, and galvanizes the roots music he's been making during the past two decades. We talked about his long history before starting The Wood Brothers with Chris, their shared wealth of music education from their musical father, how traditional music has informed The Wood Brothers and his solo project, geek out on some unknown roots musicians and much more. This episode of Across The Margin: The Podcast presents an interview with musician, folk healer, ceremonialist, and scientist Jeff Firewalker Schmitt. Schmitt, along with renowned jazz musician John Medeski (of Medeski Martin & Wood), have formed a musical collaborative called Saint Disruption bringing together musicians, video artists, and visionaries to create music, art, and experiences that explore the human condition. Saint Disruption, in conjunction with its record label Root Doctor Media, is a model for harnessing collective wisdom, self-organization, recording technology and creative artistry to create compelling works of beauty. Profits from their works are used to support the greater good through alliances with NGOs and nonprofits. Schmitt is also the founder of the Eagle Condor Council and Tobacco Freedom, and is an advocate for indigenous healing and wisdom traditions while working closely with the Wisdom Keepers. As both a noted scientist and practitioner of Peruvian Folk medicine, he seeks to build bridges of understanding. He is a challenging and evocative speaker/storyteller who in 2011 presented the first TEDx talk on Ayahuasca — inspired by his life-changing sojourn with the Secoya of the Amazon rainforest. In this episode host Michael Shields and Jeff Firewalker Schmitt dig into the origins of, and inspiration behind, Saint Disruption, discuss the charitable aims of the collective, explore the profoundly socially conscious themes of the music, and speculate on all that might lie ahead for this exciting, multi-faceted project.
Billy Martin joins Joe to discuss: how his parents met at Radio City Music Hall (she--a Rockette, he--a musician); his childhood affinity for Jacques Cousteau; how going to the movies informed his inner world; some of his key mentors; the difference between dead music and live music; and why he considers himself an experimental artist.

“To me, it's not about really external/internal. It's about a pipe between me and others...I have all these thoughts and I want to express them all, but people are not always ready to receive them. Then when you get together and express something...sometimes I can find a pipe where we can connect.” -Yuka Honda My guest this week is Yuka Honda- a musician, composer, producer and all around fantastic artist. She’s one half of the duo Cibo Matto, and has worked with a range of musicians: from well-known artists such as the Beastie Boys, Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon, to lesser-known but no-less-incredible artists such as Petra Haden, Mike Watt, and Medeski Martin & Wood. Her latest work is a multi-media operatic theatre piece called No Revenge Necessary. She’s done so many great things over the years, and is a dear friend whom I was excited to sit down and have a conversation with. For this episode, Yuka and I explored a question from Melissa Hui from San Francisco, CA. Melissa asked, “How much of creative expression is for ourselves vs. others?” We talked about how ideas, images, and feelings take the shape of clouds inside of our heads. When collaborating, Yuka looks to create a pipe connecting her ideas (or the clouds in her head) to the clouds in other people’s heads. And to wrap off our incredibly uplifting/poetic conversation, we answered a question about what we would do in the face of death. If you have a question about the creative process, that you think would spawn a good conversation on this show, ask me on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter tagged #creativeprocessing, or by emailing creativeprocessing@hitrecord.org. New episodes are coming out every Tuesday through October 22, 2019. ------ ABOUT THE GUEST: Yuka C. Honda is a musician/producer/composer/performer. We had the honor of spending some time with John discussing his evolution in music, what it’s like to create utterly improvisational music in, and for, the moment, music as prayers and the sacred nature of sound, the difference between producing music and playing it, his new album with Mad Skillet, and a whole lot more.Equally comfortable behind a Steinway grand piano, Hammond organ or any number of vintage keyboards, John Medeski is a highly sought after improviser and band leader whose projects range from work with John Zorn, The Word (Robert Randolph, North Mississippi Allstars), Phil Lesh, Don Was, John Scofield, Coheed & Cambria, Susana Baca, Sean Lennon, Marc Ribot, Irma Thomas, Blind Boys of Alabama, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many more. Classically trained, Medeski grew up in Ft.Lauderdale, FL where as a teenager he played with Jaco Pastorius before heading north to attend the New England Conservatory. He released his first solo piano record, A Different Time, on Sony’s Okeh Records in 2013, and current projects include a new album in the works with his band MadSkillet (Terrence Higgins, Kirk Joseph, Will Bernard), and HUDSON (a collaboration with Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield & Larry Grenadier), plus a documentary on Medeski Martin & Wood.Listen to Mad Skillet on iTunes or anywhere you stream or download your tunes!Make sure to check out all of johnmedeski.com for tour news, merch, and more info.***THIS EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY THE AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE SHOP TOUR BUS & DEFYNE PREMIUM CANNABIS!!!!*SHOP TOUR BUS:* Visit shoptourbus.com or @shoptourbus on IG and pick up some wonderfully creative and beautiful Grateful Dead inspired shirts/hoodies. This week we’ve got a three-track spotlight on the new album from the reggae rock band Common Kings. Titled “One Day,” the new LP is jam-packed with feel-good vibes and island influences. The band has a super fun-loving attitude for both live shows and on recordings. Special spotlight this week on Rubblebucket’s new album “Sun Machine.” It’s a danceable, fun collection of tunes that the band is known for, but if you dive in deeper you’ll find it’s also a breakup album that digs into the band’s own battles with such heavy topics as cancer and alcoholism. MMW’s forthcoming release Omnisphere featuring Alarm Will Sound, is something definitely a little different for our audience and those that love Medeski Martin and Wood, but certainly not for guys themselves. Both John Medeski and Billy Martin are classically trained musicians who while dabbling in the jazz music we’ve been accustomed to hearing from them, always have sought opportunities to work on more complex arrangements. Alarm Will Sound is a chamber orchestra that focuses on contemporary pieces. Since I’m not even close to an expert on Classical music, we asked Billy Martin to come on the show and talk about the project since we’re big MMW fans, and give us an update on other MMW goings on. For more information on MMW visit medeskimartinandwood.com. You can also check our our MMW playlist at tsp.show/ECMMW or our MMW playlist on youtube at youtube.com/thesoundpodcast. Since his emergence in the early 1990s amidst the Bronx hip-hop scene, DJ Logic has been amassing a veritable mountain of collaborations ranging from the likes of Medeski Martin and Wood, Christian McBride, Vernon Reid, Charlie Hunter, Jack Dejohnette, John Mayer, Ben Harper, Mos Def, The Roots, and yours truly. DJ Logic can always be found paying homage to his predecessors while contributing his vision to the deejay genre. While the context of his work may vary, DJ Logic’s spinning skills are definitely beyond reproach. He works with a phenomenal roster of invited guests, and he knows how to pick his collaborators as well as his samples. With a growing catalogue of recordings under his belt, DJ Logic’s supreme musicianship and diverse tastes allow him to journey wherever an infectious groove may take him. Logic and I recently sat down to discuss his musical journey

Billy Martin is a "renaissance artist" in the truest sense. For nearly 30 years he's been the drummer/percussionist with the legendary avant jazz-groove trio Medeski Martin & Wood and his singular and infectious approach to beat making has influenced scores of musicians. He's also a visual artist, writer, label owner (Amulet Records), film-maker, composer, world class collaborator and highly regarded as an influential teacher who's released instructional or self proclaimed "anti-instructional" content (DVD's and books) to inspire and educate musicians. Billy has been one of my all time favorite musicians and a huge personal influence on me. It was a pleasure to sit down and have him on the show! Enjoy! www.billymartin.net
Wikipedia can be funny sometimes. When you look for Chris Wood, he is listed as a “jazz musician” (this happens when there are multiple people with the same name). I wonder if Wood considers himself a jazz musician? Most know him as a founder, experimental player and musician visionary within the band Medeski Martin & Wood. Others may know him...
Trombonist Michael Clayville from Alarm Will Sound and Visiting Professor at Lawrence Conservatory Michael Clayville is a musician who is passionate about drawing audiences deeply into the art of sound. His abilities as a trombone soloist, chamber musician, and improviser have taken him to prestigious venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Hall, the Barbican (London) and the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ (Amsterdam) and have led to him working with some of the most prominent classical and popular artists today including Pulitzer Prize-winning composers Steve Reich, John Adams, John Luther Adams, Charles Wuorinen, and David Lang, and experimental groups like Medeski Martin and Wood, and the Dirty Projectors. Michael is a founding member of Alarm Will Sound, a group that has been awarded the ASCAP Concert Music Award for “the virtuosity, passion and commitment with which they perform and champion the repertory for the 21st century” and which has been called the “future of classical music” by the New York Times. In addition to being its trombonist, Michael is also the Director of Marketing for Alarm Will Sound. Food Talk with Mike Colameco is brought to you by the following generous underwriters: This week on a snowy Food Talk with Michael Colameco, host Mike Colameco is talking music with friend Bill Evans. Bill is a world-class, Grammy Award winning saxophonist and producer who made his debut on the international music scene in the 1980’s, at the tender age of 21, with Miles Davis – yes, the Miles Davis. Bill has been prolific in the studio, recording 19 solo albums to date. One evening you’ll see him walk on stage as a guest with the Allman Brothers. The next, rock out with Warren Haynes & Gov’t Mule. Then co-lead a European tour with Robben Ford or Randy Brecker. After that, he’ll jam with Medeski Martin and Wood, or trade solos with Jake Cinninger while sitting in with jam-band favorites Umphrey’s McGee. Tune in as Mike chats with this renaissance man who has seamlessly walked from stage to stage to right here on Heritage Radio Network. “It’s kind of a progressive, rock, jazz sort of band now. It’s morphed into a very very cool sound. I’m very excited about it.” “You speak with your instrument! When you come from jazz, you can say a lot with your instrument.” —Bill Evans on Food Talk

Prior to his appearance at the 2010 Cheltenham Jazz Festival, guitarist John Scofield joins Alyn Shipton to choose key albums from his extensive recorded catalogue. As well as his most recent disc, Piety Street, he chooses discs with Medeski Martin & Wood, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny and Gary Burton. Scofield is one of the most famous jazz guitarists on the planet. As he tells Alyn Shipton in this programme, he was once more popular in Europe than in the USA, but that all changed after his albums A-Go-Go and Bump, which put him firmly at the centre of the dance-based "jam-band" movement. So in this programme as well as sampling his work with jazz heavyweights such as Gary Burtion, Charlie Haden and Billy Higgins, we also hear him in full flight with members of Sex Mob, Deep Banana Blackout and Medeski, Martin & Wood.
