If you're planning a visit to the North Okanagan this weekend, you'll want to check that your plans are still able to go ahead. Public Safety Minister, Mike Farnworth, is telling visitors to avoid parts of that region in the coming days. Here's what he told reporters.
50th Parallel, Embrace Change, Community, Wardrobe Update - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 35 Wet Your Whistle Wednesday 50th Parallel Estates, this is the Pinot Noir from 2018. An excellent wine, 50th Parallel Estates which is in North Okanagan, about 15 minutes from the Kelowna airport and just about 15 minutes south of Vernon, and it's located right on the east side of the Okanagan Lake. The owners, Sherry Lee and Curtis, are always seen around Kelowna restaurants enjoying the city. This winery was actually started in 2009 when they planted their first 10 acres of vines. After that, in 2011, was when they bottled their first vintage. This is an amazing estate and winery to go and check out, please put this on your list. If you are going out and doing wine tours in and around that area, there are also Gray Monk Estates, Arrow Leaf Cellars, and Intrigued Wines. Parenting As your children grow older and they evolve into themselves, changes are going to happen, with these changes they are going to grow into adults, but also their tastes are going to change who they are is actually going to start to mold into the person that they're becoming. When this happens, their hobbies are going to change and their passions are going to change, and the things that make them excited and happy, are going to start to develop. You need to be willing to accept these changes that come. You don't want to squash their imagination right away because they could be developing something that could take them further on in life, their happy place as they are an adult. Mental Health Finishing our four-part series on body, mind, soul, and community. I really liked this concept I'm really sad that we're stuck in this COVID era where I'm not able to get out more into the community and where I'm now residing. But I want you to think about little things that you can do in your community, your local community somewhere that's right around you, or could be your community of friends online or it could be your community in the greater city that you live in because it's part of the hobbies and passions that you both share together, whether it's in the art world, or anywhere else. Little things that you can do for your community, pick yourself a garbage bag and go take a walk into a park somewhere and start picking up a little bit of the garbage that's been leftover from winter, and you can do this, literally anywhere in the world. Dapper My question to you; how was COVID to you? Did you gain the 19 pounds that COVID promised to bring? COVID-19... get it. I did, I had to go and try on a shirt, and that shirt looked way too skin-tight. So, the upsetting thing is I had to move up the size of the shirt and it wasn't because I've got guns in a big chest from working out. Oh no no no, it's because I gained a nice little belly during this last year. I also had to buy new jeans and move up a size there too. Here's the reason why I'm talking about this because your wardrobe is a very important part of living the Dapper lifestyle. Maybe it's time to replenish that wardrobe, as one of the pillars of being dapper is style. Dad Tip of the Day “If you focus on what you have, you gain what you lack. The Cannabis 101 Podcast is your guide through the legalization and consumption of cannabis in Canada and beyond. It's not just about getting high, it's about getting healthy. Catch us every Wednesday. David Wylie of the oz joins me each week to discuss the latest on This Week in Cannabis News. Things happen fast in the still developing cannabis industry and we'll bring you the top stories. It was a bad news/good news segment with David as we looked into a story about a North Okanagan company going bankrupt as it looks like another case of trying to go too big too fast. We also looked at an alarming amount of arrests in the United States when it comes to marijuana possession, in fact more than all violent crimes combined. Its' a terrible situation that is ruining people's lives. We ended with some great news about THC fighting Colon Cancer lab tests with mice and what else it has helped with during the research. Also Canopy Growth and some long term care facilities are going to study quality of life for seniors using medical cannabis. Get the latest news from the oz every Friday here. You can also find full episodes and more at www.Cannabis101Podcast.ca where you can sign up for The Weed Weekly and get in on our Friday giveaway.

In May 2010, Deconstructing Dinner travelled to Vancouver Island where two international conferences on ethnobiology were being hosted. Ethnobiology examines the relationships between humans and their surrounding plants, animals and ecosystems. Today, more and more people are expressing an interest to develop closer relationships with the earth. This leaves much to be learned from the research of ethnobiologists, and in particular, from the symbiotic human-earth relationships that so many peoples around the world have long maintained. On this part II of the series, we listen to segments from a one-on-one interview with Nancy Turner of the University of Victoria. Nancy is one of the most well-known ethnobiologists in Canada and Deconstructing Dinner's Jon Steinman sat down with her in the community of Tofino to learn more about what ethnobiology is, why the field is an increasingly important one to pay attention to, and what we all might learn from the many indigenous peoples who ethnobiologists work with. Also on the show - a recording of a presentation by Cheryl Bryce and Pamela Tudge who are examining how the indigenous peoples living in what is now the City of Victoria might reinstate traditional harvesting practices of an important traditional food - camus. Guests Nancy Turner, distinguished professor, School of Environmental Studies, University of Victoria (Victoria, BC) - Born in Berkeley, California, Nancy moved to Victoria at the age of 5 and she lives there today as a Distinguished Professor in the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria. She earned a PhD in Ethnobotany in 1974 from the University of British Columbia when she studied three contemporary indigenous groups of the Pacific Northwest (the Haida, Bella Coola and Lillooet). Nancy's major research has demonstrated the role of plant resources in past and present aboriginal cultures and languages as being an integral component of traditional knowledge systems. Nancy has also played an important role in helping demonstrate how traditional management of plant resources has shaped the landscapes and habitats of western Canada. In 1999 Nancy received the Order of British Columbia and in 2009 received the Order of Canada. She's authored numerous books including, among others, Food Plants of Coastal First Peoples, Food Plants of Interior First Peoples, Plants of Haida Gwaii and The Earth's Blanket - Traditional Teachings for Sustainable Living. Cheryl Bryce, lands manager, Songhees Nation, (Victoria, BC) - The Songhees or Songish, also known as the Lekwungen or Lekungen, are an indigenous North American Coast Salish people who reside on southeastern Vancouver Island, British Columbia in the Greater Victoria area. Pamela Tudge, former student, School of Environmental Studies, University of Victoria (Victoria, BC) - Pamela recently moved to the North Okanagan region of BC where she's now studying food systems and mapping for her master's research at the University of British Columbia - Okanagan.
