In this episode of Compared to Who?, Heather Creekmore invites listeners to take a deeply-needed exhale from the relentless messages around body image and self-worth that the world sends our way. Building on the "Waiting for Weight Loss" series, Heather opens up about her own struggles with feeling valuable through fitness and body changes, and the letdown that follows when external goals don’t bring the internal peace we’re promised. Heather dives into the concept of "monetized insecurity"—the way industries profit from our feelings of inadequacy—and breaks down why finding your worth in God, not in weight loss or body perfection, is the only path that leads to real security and rest. You’ll walk away with: Practical breathwork exercises for grounding and relaxation A guided prayer for internalizing your true value An honest look at cultural lies vs. God’s unchanging truth about your worth Reflective questions to revisit whenever you need a reminder that you are already loved, worthy, and enough Key Question: Whose message is easier for you to believe: monetized insecurity or God's message of worth beyond what you measure? If I could go back and start my fitness journey all over again? I'd do a lot less spinning my wheels, and a lot more of what actually works. In this Q&A episode, I'm breaking down exactly what I'd do differently if I were starting from scratch today. No fake motivation. No shiny routines. Just the five shifts that would've saved me years of burnout, frustration, and wasted energy. We're talking about why lifting weights (intentionally, not endlessly) would be my day one move, why soreness and sweat mean less than you think, and how protein and walking changed everything for me, but not in the way Instagram makes it seem.I'm also getting into the habits I used to skip that now feel non-negotiable and why I wish I'd stopped treating under-eating like a flex.If you're in your start-over era, or just tired of doing the most and feeling the least, this one's for you. What's Discussed: (00:00) If I could start my fitness journey over…(05:08) Why strength training would be my day one(08:03) The truth about soreness and sweat(13:56) How under-eating held me back(17:33) Walking for recovery, not just rings(20:11) The warm-up I used to skip (and now swear by)(24:14) You don't need more, you need the right thingsThank You to Our Sponsors:Broads: Ready to ditch the BS and start feeling strong in your body? From arm stretches to gentle Pilates, a group of pensioners in Croatia are keeping active well into their later years. At the heart of it all is 95-year-old fitness trainer Djurdja Vukovic—still leading the way, and showing no signs of slowing down. Twice a week, she guides elderly women through a mix of light aerobics, stretching and Pilates—movements she's honed herself over more than five decades. A former pharmaceutical engineer, Vukovic's passion for movement began in 1964. She says she has made friendships that have endured beyond the gym. “For me, I found a haven here. … Because it's not just about physical exercise, it's just as much about talking to people and mingling. There are invitations to go to the theater, there are book recommendations for this author or that one. … Outside of very close friends, you can't share your problems with anyone else, like you can here. So, it works as an emotional outlet, which helped me a great deal in my private life,” she says. For Vukovic, these sessions are more than fitness. They're a lifeline, weaving together community, healing, and resilience. “This is also great because it allows people to stare at TV screens much less, and spend less time with this disastrous daily news, which actually makes you ask yourself what's living about. But life is merely a blink of an eye. We get born, we live through some period, one way or another—and then you disappear from the world, like you were never here in the first place.” The classes are small, but the impact is large. For many here, it's a space to care for their bodies, and their spirits. Bozica Birin, a class attendee, says, “I decided to do this because of health problems, that was my number one reason. But also, spending time together is also important. After our training, we like to go have coffee, hang out together, we sometimes go on day trips together. So, this kind of continues outside of the gym, and it allows us to have an active lifestyle.” This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Episode Description & Show Notes: This week, a fitness influencer went viral for saying people over 200 pounds shouldn't be allowed in Pilates class—and that instructors with a “gut” shouldn't be teaching. Yes, she deleted the video. But the damage was done. Thousands of people agreed with her. This is the fitness industry we're still up against. And in this episode, we're not just pushing back—we're burning the whole narrative down. We break down 13 research-backed reasons why building your fitness brand around body transformation isn't just unethical—it's lazy, outdated, and costing you money. What we cover: Why transformation-based branding leads to low retention and high churn How extrinsic motivation backfires (and what the neuroscience says) The impact of shame-based messaging on mental health How to actually build emotional loyalty that fuels long-term growth Why purpose-driven brands scale better—and feel better This episode is part reckoning, part guidebook. We brought the science, the lived experience, and the tools to help you build a brand that doesn't just sell workouts—but moves people. Whether you've already left the old model behind or are still working your way out of it—this one's for you. If this message resonates, share it. Post it. Text it to your team. Send us a textHello, passionate cruisers! This is Paul and this week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast, I am delighted to welcome Melissa Davis, and have a conversation with her about how she grew from running Port Shopping Programs onboard cruise ships to providing Port Shopping information and running to all cruisers as a private entrepreneur. After running shopping programs on Crystal Cruises, Regent, Oceania, Viking, and Marella, and launching the first and only onshore shopping program on Viking River Cruises, Melissa decided to create an online recommended and guaranteed shopping program for all cruisers featuring Cruise Port Maps, and a long list of fabulous recommended and guaranteed retailers and brands in each port, and tried and tested attractions and best beaches. Melissa is the number one Online Port Shopping GuideAfter working with several amazing cruise lines and cruising a lot herself, Melissa was surprised to see not all Cruise lines provide accurate Port Maps when the ships arrive in port. She decided to put her Cruise Port Insider Secrets online so everyone could access it. Melissa's cruise ship career started as a Fitness Instructor for Steiner Transocean on the old Holland America Line Noordam. She couldn't wait for time off in port to explore the ports, and submerging herself in the culture and meeting wonderful people along the way. To this day she has artifacts, indigenous souvenirs and jewelry and art from these wonderful experiences. When a position came up as a Shopping Lecturer she jumped at the chance and for the next 7 years, she went to various cruise lines running lectures and helping cruise ship guests navigate the ports of call. Now Melissa has all these amazing Cruise Port Maps, and will tell you how to get yours free, as well as shop for wonderful products from each destination or snag a souvenir for a loved one back home. Relying on ship wifi is slow, unsecure, sometimes not available & at foreign ports travelers don't want to pay their carriers' high fees. Save $ with GigSky!
