Movember is here, Teens and PreTeens, Dapper in Public An OBVIOU5 Voice - Episode 49 Captain OBVIOU5 Movember/ClayWiebe Sunday Funday Snake Lake Brewing This Sunday, Snake Lake Brewing is out of Sylvan Lake. This is an amazing little brewery. I've been using these guys at the restaurant for the longest time without ever meeting them. The Kinibik Pilsner is amazing the Sidewinder IPA is spectacular, but they just dropped off a couple few little tasters for me. We have the Vanilla Coffee Stout and this one here, Berries and Cream Wheat ale. This is a very good beer... Parenting Imagine yourself with a 17-year-old teenager four months away from graduating high school and moving on with her life to becoming an adult. Then you have an 11-year-old who's four months away from leaving elementary school going into junior high. So you've got your preteens and you've got your teens and the emotions and everything is just so extreme right now. Be careful how you talk with talk to and understand how you deal with your kids... Mental Health Ladies and gentlemen, it's Movember. And as you know, if you've listened in the past, if you've seen any of my posts on social media, I have been an advocate for mental health for many years. I am now an 18-year Movember participant, bringing awareness to men's health, changing the face of men's health. Bringing up the conversation of men's health, whether we're talking about testicular cancer or prostate cancer, or mental health, which is such a big thing right now... Dapper I want to talk about a little thing that I saw going on at the restaurant that I work in. It's been a long time since many people have been in a social gathering with alcohol, a social gathering with people they don't know. You may have had your garage beers or your patio drinks or whatever kind of occasion that you've brought together within your own circle of influence. However, going out to an establishment, bumping into people that you don't know we need to remember how to be socially aware of other people. Dad Tip of the Day "You don't have to do anything perfectly. You just have to try”
Ruperts Whiskey, Celebration of Life, Back to School - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 48 Captain OVIOU5 Sippin' Saturday: Eau Claire Rupert Whiskey Parenting: Celebration of life Mental Health: Back to school Keep your head Take care of yourself Dapper: Back to the office; go back with the right state of mind and look. Dad Tip of the Day: “Things will get better, and you need to trust that”
Rig Hand, Service Industry Talk with Parenting, Mental Health, & Dapper - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 47 @CaptainOBVIOU5 Sunday Funday Rig Hand Distillery @RigHandSpirits (Twitter) @RigHandDistillery (IG) Done right here in the Edmonton area in Nisku Alberta. I've been on the gin kick lately so I picked up the Wild Rose Gin. Rig Hand has been around since 2004 and they've been in social media for a very long time, coupling with the radio station here as well as a pretty popular podcast network if you may have heard of. Nation Shoutout Parenting If you have kids in the service industry you need to be aware of what they're doing, but you need to give them space at the same time. This time in their life, they're going to be learning a lot about themselves and they're going to be growing and they're going to be finding who they are as human beings, as adults, they're going to make mistakes and they're going to do stupid things. You have to let them make mistakes; however, you want to make sure that the mistakes they're making aren't going to be harmful to them or to others. Mental Health If you're a leader in the industry, check in with the people that you work with, especially over the last 18 months, it's been hell on a lot of people out there. Take the time to check in with the people you work with, with your friends, and make sure they're doing okay outside of work Dapper Today we're talking about showing up. There's a quote that one of my special-team coaches back in football used to tell me when I first got to Kelowna to play for the Sun. “If you're going to fly like an owl at night. You better be able to soar with the Eagles in the morning.” Think about that. If you're going to go out and play at night with your friends, have a good time and party. You better damn well be able to show up and do your job, show up every shift, be present, be classy, look clean. Do your job 100%. If you're going to be able to go and play, if you're mature enough to make that decision, you better be mature enough to show up for your shift the next day. Dad Tip of the Day "There's always some truth behind ‘Just kidding', knowledge behind every ‘I don't know' emotions behind ‘I don't care', and pain behind, ‘It's okay'.”
District Wine Village, Pride in Kids, Challenge Yourself - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 46 @CaptainOBVIOU5 Sunday Funday: District Wine Village @DistrictWineVillage (Instagram) District Wine Village opened up in Oliver, has brought together a bunch of different wineries, breweries, and a restaurant, all in one location. Think of it as a playground for adults. Max Brock and Matt Kenyon came together to bring the first district wine village together here in Canada, being down where wine country is in the Okanagan Valley. The different wineries that are there: Gneiss Wines, JoiRyde Winery, Nk'Mip Cellars, One Faith Vineyards, Vintners Cove Winery, Wapiti Cellars, and Winemakers Cut. Parenting: I want to talk about the pride that you have in your children. We're always proud of our kids. But there are certain situations that happened that you're just beaming with pride so much that your tears swell up and your heart is booming and it's just that you want to grab them and hold them and hug them. We need to celebrate those little moments with them we need to share how we feel with our children so they know that pride and it's something that, when they see that in their parent's face. Mental Health: I want you to challenge yourself. Do one thing. Every year, every month, every week, and every day. That will take you out of your comfort zone, and allow you to challenge yourself, allow you to be a better you. Dapper: Keep your cool. Going through life you're going to be running into certain situations that are going to test you all the time. How you react to these situations. It helps determine who you're going to be as a person. And it also determines how others view you. The dapper lifestyle and being dapper comes down to stoicism practicing being stoic, every single day, or anytime you run into these situations is extremely important in living the dapper lifestyle. Because as I've said before, it's not the way your hair is cut or the clothes that you wear. It's how you act around people and the things you do when people aren't around. Dad Tip of the Day: "Keep faith. The most amazing things in life tend to happen right at that moment that you're about to give up hope.”
Inniskillin, Be Fathers for your Daughters - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 45 @CaptainOBVIOU5 Sunday Funday: Inniskillin Merlot @InniskillinWine We're going back to the Okanagan Valley, but south. We are going to Oliver, talking about Inniskillin wines which are an amazing winery down in Oliver BC they've been around for about 40 years now. The reason why I want to talk about Inniskillen is because they're Zinfandel, is one of my top five all-time favorite wines Mental Health: I want to bring up being patient, being patient with teenage girls, their mental health and your mental health too. And I know that this was one of my biggest issues. When my daughters were growing up is I didn't take that step back and I didn't take that breath sometimes when I needed to. And that's something that I've learned over the years Parenting: Single dads out there. Be aware of who you are around your girls around people in society. Show your daughters the type of man they need to look for when they fall in love Dapper: Show your daughters what dapper is when they're looking for that next man in their life, their spouse, their lover, whatever the case, make sure that they understand what dapper is Dad Tip of the Day: “Behind every great daughter is a truly amazing father”
Quails Gate, Routine, Communication - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 44 @CaptainOBVIOU5 Sunday Funday: Quails Gate Winery @Quails_Gate (Twitter) @QuailsGate (Instagram) Back to the Okanagan we go with Quail's Gate Rose. Winemakers of the world have taken the Rose and perfected it. They've made it more of a class in itself. So now you have your reds, your whites, and your rose. This winery has actually been around for 60 years, they're only celebrating the 30th year as Quails Gate, but the Steward family in the Okanagan have been working the vineyards for the last 60 years. Parenting Budgeting with our children. And the reason why I'm bringing this up because I've got my pumpkin here, and she loves her fidget toys, and she collects an allowance and she wants to buy more fidget toys, she's got 28 in total right now. Mental Health Routine. Something that I've been trying to develop for myself over the last couple of months and it's been difficult to say the least. I'm a paper in person guy or a pen and paper guy, I like to write stuff down, but I love technology. I want to type it into my computer I want to have my alerts come up I want to have my calendar on my laptop and my phone alert me when something's happening. But when they make a list, I need to have that pen and paper I need to be writing that down. How can I amalgamate all of that together to become one amazing hybrid to bring my routine? Dapper Communication. This was a major battle of mine when I didn't know that I was depressed, and I wouldn't talk and I would just keep things in, but not knowing I was keeping things in, and then all of a sudden, I would be that asshole and blow up, communicating is such a huge factor. Because once you tell somebody how you feel or what's going on. They're not going to assume anything Dad Tip Of The Day “Consider mistakes nothing more than detours on the way to success. Learn from them and go on”
NK'MIP wines, Preteens, Drink Water - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 43 @CaptainOBVIOU5 Sunday Funday: Nk'Mip Cellars @nkmipcellars Pino Blanc Nk'Mip Cellars in Osoyoos, BC Parenting: Preteens hanging out with their friends. Mental Health: A child who's still developing and understanding who they are as a person is going to be extremely difficult. Dapper: We're moving out of COVID and the comfy pants, and we're moving directly into the shorts and plus 35-degree weather. Drink Water Dad Tip Of the Day: “There's no path to happiness, happiness is the path.” - Buddha
A Special Father's Day with My Girls - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 42 Sunday Funday Tool Shed Brewery – Calgary Alberta Many great beers with better stories behind each label. Tool Shed Brewery @ToolShedBeer (Twitter) @ToolShedBeer (IG) Parenting Just make sure that every decision that you're thinking about doesn't revolve around your child, but you're always thinking about how it will impact them. Mental Health Slow Down. “I took that out of my life because I've been juggling school and work and figuring out my insurance on my car and this the last week of school so there are obviously tests and essays that have to be studied for and I didn't take the time to. I didn't slow down for myself because I was going to school early morning and then I was working right after school and then I got home at midnight and then I didn't have time to study for my test, which was a poor thing on my part. So, and then definitely I just I felt like I didn't have time and everything my family I never see my friends I've didn't slow down.” - Jade Dapper Being dapper is a way of life, as we've talked about in the past, it's not just the clothes you wear, but how you act, internally, and outside. As a person in front of people. And when people aren't looking. It's being classy and being a gentleman, holding doors being polite. It's also dressing clean dressing sharp and dressing that makes you feel good. All of these things are the dapper lifestyle. So, the first thing we're going to talk about is putting your child first Dad Tip Of The Day “A father doesn't tell you that he loves you. He shows you”
Big Rock, Monkeys First Car, Phase 2 DBAD - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 41 @CaptainOBVIOU5 Sunday Funday: Big Rock Brewery @BigRockBrewery (Twitter) @BigRockBrewery (Instagram) So today, we're talking about big rock. Big Rock is the big, big rock that has been around since 1984. Here's the deal. Craft brewing craft breweries and craft beer, have taken a huge uprising in the last decade or so. Big Rock has been around since 1984 I want you to wrap your head around that for a second. So, basically, if you were around any restaurants or any pubs. During the 90s, you would see big rock grasshopper or big rock traditional ale. Parenting: Last August, I've driven them everywhere, and thank goodness I have the pumpkin I can still drive to volleyball and wherever she wants to go. However, the monkey now is at that age where she's extremely independent she's got her friends she wants to go to the mall, she has to go to work. She has school. And I have to just hand over the keys and say, okay. I trust you on that road. And yes, I do trust her. However, I don't trust the ass clowns that are on the road as well, and that's more stressful than anything else Mental Health: Today we're going to be talking about phase two. So, Alberta opens up these two people are allowed to go to restaurants, inside, people are allowed to go to all of their workout facilities inside, people are allowed to go to movies, inside. Oh my gosh, when's the last time that you went and saw a movie, inside the theatre. That's next level, right. I recently rented a movie with my pumpkin. It was $35 to rent a new movie, going to the theatre sure that tickets may cost you 15 bucks a pop. And then popcorn, and then pop, and then yada yada yada. Dapper: I want to talk about being dapper. Don't be a dick. As a person going into a restaurant or a store or any place whatsoever. Talking about mental health, we talked about the people that are working there that haven't dealt with people in a very long time. Well, guess what, you're part of the problem. So, a lot of the people out there especially we put alcohol into their system, become more of a dick than ever. So what I want you guys to remember is the fact that yes, we are in phase two, but it's only phase two. Even though you're drinking alcohol. I want you to make sure that you're taking care of yourself. Get home safe. Take care of the service staff because they're baby-stepping their way into service again and take care of the people around you. Dad Tip of The Day: “Fail, Learn, Grow”
Pride Month Splashes Its Colours Throughout the Topics - An OBVIOU5 Voice - Episode 40 @CaptainOBVIOU5 After the last episode, I had such great reviews with my little guest that I decided what a great Sunday it would be if we could have her back for episode number 40, Jordyn, say hi to the people. “Hi, I'm glad to be back.” This month is Pride Month so we're going to be talking about that going forward when we get into the topics: parenting, mental health, and being dapper. #SundayFunday Forbidden Spirits Distillery @forbidden_spirits Forbidden Spirits Distilleries in Kelowna has their own orchard which they use their apples right from that orchard, and they produce their gin, they produce their vodka, their whiskey, and their brandy out of these apples. It's very cool. The centre is such a beautiful venue in itself, it's set up to host weddings and any kind of events that you want to host there. Reach out to them if you're in Kelowna if you're visiting the Okanagan, make sure to stop by their tasting room then you can go home with your own bottle. Parenting: “Being that it is Pride Month, what are some of the things that you think as parents that we should make sure we remember to do. Even if our children are part of the LGBTQ community, or if they're friends of people in the LGBTQ community, or if they're just curious and need more information about the LGBTQ community.” “Pride Month is actually a really big thing I've learned lots about it...” “... But you shouldn't be mad at them and say that they should be straight, you should probably sit down with them and say you're an accepting parent, and you just have to understand and support, or your word. You have to support them with your love, and you want to make sure that they don't feel alone and you're with them every step of the way.” Mental Health: “Yeah, how do we think about mental health, with this month in Pride Month, and with the LGBT community. What's your correlation there. What do you think of that?” “I think you should be aware of yourself and others when it comes to that kind of thing. Like, if you are straight for example, you want to be aware of somebody that could be gay and you don't want to bring up something that would hurt them.” Dapper: Being dapper is about living the dapper lifestyle, and when we live the dapper lifestyle, we know it's not just about the clothes we wear but it's the way that we treat other people the way that we act like human beings when no one's around or when there are people around. So, when you're out there, it's having the acceptance of the people around you, no matter what their gender what their race, what their sexual orientation, or what the religious freedoms are, this is having acceptance of everyone, and when you're dapper you live that lifestyle of acceptance. Dad Tip of the Day: “If you truly want to be with the person listen to your heart and not all the voices from all the people around you.”

Victoria Gin, Guests at Restaurants, Wear You, Get That Hobby - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 38 Sunday Funday: Victoria Distillery Gin For more than 10 years, Victoria Distillers has been producing some of Canada’s finest handmade spirits. Our unique waterfront location in Sidney, British Columbia, houses the copper pot stills that produce our range of spirits. – most notably, our award-winning gins. Parenting: My oldest is in the service industry, the one thing that gets to me is the way patrons interact with her. Creepy duchy, rude and inconsiderate. There is nothing I can do but talk with her and tell her people are there if she has any problems. Mental Health: Find your thing… Mental health is being locked into your head, find the thing that you can do to express yourself and get through the hard days Dapper: Dapper in the summer, business attire, backyard bbq. Classy and comfortable. Do what feels good to you. Don’t let others determine what you should or should not wear Dad Tip Of The Day: “Life is a journey, not a race.” @VicDistillers @CaptainOBVIOU5
Mother's Day, Nation Beer & Dog Island Brewery, Calling out Men – An OBVIOU5 Voice Episode 37 Sunday Funday: Sunday Funday where we are going to be talking about all of the drinks, whether they be beer, wine, or liquor that has been brewed or distilled in Western Canada. This one here is from the Nation Network along with Dog Island Brewing and is brewed in Slave Lake. This is a Kolsch beer, it's a very light beer and it's very crushable. It has a lot of citrus aromas to it, and the taste is quite enjoyable especially good if you're sitting on a patio on a hot day, and the Oilers are playing. This is Oilers branded, we have our colours, on the side “Mission 2021” for the playoffs that we'll be running into. So right here, this embodies everything that an oiler fan should be drinking, as we go into the playoffs coming up. So, this first sip I'm going to send out to Connor McDavid hitting 100 points in 53 games. I'm going to send this out to Leon Draisaitl for getting his 500th point, and also Adam Larson playing his 600th game. Cheers, gentlemen. Parenting: We're going to talk about Mother's Day today, and is huge on so many different levels especially in lockdown right now we're not able to go and hug our moms. Mom, I love you. Thank you very much. I want to talk about all of the mothers out there, and I wanted to say thank you to you, I'm taking this platform today to thank my mother to thank all of the women out there that have helped me become the person that I am today. And then helped me become the father I am today because, without those women, I wouldn't be able to be the father, and parent to my beautiful girls that I am right now. So, everything that I am comes from that. My mother, my sister, my princess. My ex-wife, my mother-in-law, coworkers that I've worked with friends that I've met, all of the mothers, all of the females out there, have helped mold me helped me get through tough times, helped me become the man I am today, and helped me evolve even through my 40s to where I want to be in the future. Thank you. Mental Health: We're going to talk about getting healthy. Because getting healthy is key to our mental health, and getting healthy starts small, I don't want you to try and have some kind of huge goal that you're looking for unless it's a long-term goal because way too many of us are taking these big goals, failing and never going back, start off small. Celebrate your small victories, because these victories are the ones that going to make you want to come back. These victories are the ones that are going to tell your friends, your family, and your loved ones about. These victories are the ones that you're going to think about and hold on to when you wake up the next morning and you get back into the gym, or you go back on that run. Dapper: Today we are talking dapper in a different kind of sense. The reason why I want to bring this up is where we talk about who we are as human beings and how we interact with the community and with people out there, honesty, integrity, and chivalry is three main concepts when you talk about being dapper. I'm bringing this up is because of the story that came to light about Jake Virtanen from the Vancouver Canucks. I read this story, and it was difficult to read through. It was something that really hit home on so many different levels being an ex-athlete ex-hockey player, knowing that community and that brotherhood. Being a father now with two young daughters, working in the service industry with so many females that are involved. I feel as though I take on a parenting aspect in their lives as well. Men, we need to step up, we need to be better, we need to speak up if we hear some colleagues or friends or people that we know that are degrading women in any kind of sense, or telling stories of something that you just feel isn't right, it's time for us to step up and say something. There's no need to just be silent during those times. Dad Tip of the Day: “If you are a mom. You are a superhero, period.” An OBVIOU5 World @CaptainOBVIOU5 Oilers Nation @OilersNation Dog Island Brewing @DogIslandBeer

50th Parallel, Embrace Change, Community, Wardrobe Update - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 35 Wet Your Whistle Wednesday 50th Parallel Estates, this is the Pinot Noir from 2018. An excellent wine, 50th Parallel Estates which is in North Okanagan, about 15 minutes from the Kelowna airport and just about 15 minutes south of Vernon, and it's located right on the east side of the Okanagan Lake. The owners, Sherry Lee and Curtis, are always seen around Kelowna restaurants enjoying the city. This winery was actually started in 2009 when they planted their first 10 acres of vines. After that, in 2011, was when they bottled their first vintage. This is an amazing estate and winery to go and check out, please put this on your list. If you are going out and doing wine tours in and around that area, there are also Gray Monk Estates, Arrow Leaf Cellars, and Intrigued Wines. Parenting As your children grow older and they evolve into themselves, changes are going to happen, with these changes they are going to grow into adults, but also their tastes are going to change who they are is actually going to start to mold into the person that they're becoming. When this happens, their hobbies are going to change and their passions are going to change, and the things that make them excited and happy, are going to start to develop. You need to be willing to accept these changes that come. You don't want to squash their imagination right away because they could be developing something that could take them further on in life, their happy place as they are an adult. Mental Health Finishing our four-part series on body, mind, soul, and community. I really liked this concept I'm really sad that we're stuck in this COVID era where I'm not able to get out more into the community and where I'm now residing. But I want you to think about little things that you can do in your community, your local community somewhere that's right around you, or could be your community of friends online or it could be your community in the greater city that you live in because it's part of the hobbies and passions that you both share together, whether it's in the art world, or anywhere else. Little things that you can do for your community, pick yourself a garbage bag and go take a walk into a park somewhere and start picking up a little bit of the garbage that's been leftover from winter, and you can do this, literally anywhere in the world. Dapper My question to you; how was COVID to you? Did you gain the 19 pounds that COVID promised to bring? COVID-19... get it. I did, I had to go and try on a shirt, and that shirt looked way too skin-tight. So, the upsetting thing is I had to move up the size of the shirt and it wasn't because I've got guns in a big chest from working out. Oh no no no, it's because I gained a nice little belly during this last year. I also had to buy new jeans and move up a size there too. Here's the reason why I'm talking about this because your wardrobe is a very important part of living the Dapper lifestyle. Maybe it's time to replenish that wardrobe, as one of the pillars of being dapper is style. Dad Tip of the Day “If you focus on what you have, you gain what you lack. If you focus on what you lack, then you lose what you have.” @CaptainOBVIOU5 50th Parallel Estates @50thparallelwin (Twitter) @50thparallelwine (IG) An OBVIOU5 World (Facebook)
Hillside Wines, The RedKit, Meditation, Exploring Stoicism- An OBVIOU5 Voice - Episode 34 Today I talk about single fathers and what to do with your daughters in preparedness; in mental health, we're going to talk about our soul section of our four-part, body, mind, soul, and community series; in the dapper section we are going to talk about stoicism and where to begin being stoic, and then, of course, the Dad Tip of the Day and Hillside Wines is in the Wet Your Whistle Wednesday portion. Wet Your Whistle Wednesday Hillside Winery is located in the southeast of Okanagan Lake, on the Naramata Bench. Naramata is a little town just northeast of Penticton up along the east side of Okanagan Lake. It's a cute little town, that hosts 40 wineries. If you have the opportunity to go with any friends or family or you're going on a bridal party or any kind of that celebration, do yourself a favour, rent a bus, get on a wine tour, and have them take you up the Naramata Bench, you can do tastings throughout all of these different wineries. Parenting I want to talk to single fathers out there, I've been through this, and now I'm getting ready for my second wave. I want to talk to you about being prepared for your daughters and being present, being there for them, mentally, emotionally, and physically. This is an extremely important time in their development and in their lives and having their father's presence at all times is going to be a big deal moving forward for them in their lives and in their future. So, we are going to go over the Preteen Emergency “Red Kit”. Mental Health We're in a four-part series right now, and this is part number three, today we're going to be talking about our soul, I want to really dive deep into looking within to find who we are. Sometimes we go through life, just going through the motions, we are alive, but not living. Today I talk about meditation, and the power it can have on you moving forward in life. It's all about bettering yourself every day. Dapper To be dapper I've always talked about needing a level of stoicism. You need to be stoic inside in order to be dapper completely, but it's not a switch. You can't just turn the switch on and instantly become stoic. This is something that we have to work on every single day. This is something that you need to do and practice and support all the time. Summerhill, FaceToFace, 4 Agreements, Keyboard Warriors - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 33 How's everybody doing on this April 14 of 2021 We are back in a lockdown here in Alberta, as much of a lockdown as you'd like to call it, people are still out doing their things. However, restaurants are now patio only. So, if you want to go to a restaurant, hopefully, the weather's okay. Wet Your Whistle Wednesday Summer Hill Winery in Kelowna where you may recognize the pyramid logo. What's really cool and this is the first winery that we've talked about in the Okanagan that is fully organic. The Pyramid Cellar, the big pyramid they have on their winery, it's built with precision, sacred geometry and aligned to the stars to create a structure of stillness and harmony. Summerhill winery has won many trophies and gold medals from England and France, and they were recently named “Canadian wine producer of the year”. Interesting facet, Cipes Sparkling Wine, something that is used quite a bit in the restaurant industry in the Okanagan Valley is actually named after the owner of the winery. Parenting Our kids are obviously growing up in the Generation Z era, with tablets and phones, laptops, video games, screen time. It's all about screen time now, and the battle it is to keep their attention away from whatever they're watching and bring face-to-face time back to the forefront. Mental Health Continue the four-part series with body, mind, soul community. Today we're moving on to the mind. I started reading The Four Agreements, this is an amazing book if you've ever had the opportunity to read it, you will know, if you haven't, look it up. Find it on your Kobo, find it in your bookstores. Do whatever you need to do, but you need to read this book, it's not very long, but it's extremely important especially for people that get in their own head, as I do. Four Agreements are: Be impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best. It's four simple guidelines that will help structure and help move you forward. These little things are so important. Dapper I want to revisit being dapper online, and we've talked about being dapper on the outside but being dapper on the inside is just as important. When you're dapper, you're stoic, you are calm. You may be flailing underneath the water like a duck but above the surface. Everything is going well. I'm floored by the number of people that go online and are the keyboard warriors, the ones that are protected by amenity and can do and say anything they want. I recently was reading a travel blogger's post; she shared the hate mail that she receives and it is out of this world. What gives you the right as a person to shame or hate or send out any negative vibes, because you don't like it. If you don't like what's going on, do something about it. Meaning, take the job over and see if you can do it better. Or unfollow that person. Stop following the team. Don't read the stuff that you don't like. It's an easy, simple situation. All you have to do is unfollow if you're not enjoying what you're reading. What a concept. Sandhill, Green Day, and grass on the other side - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 32 Wet Your Whistle Wednesday Sandhill Wines. April is BC wine month. This is something that British Columbia is doing with all of its wineries. This is how we're going to promote it and maybe we can find a way to bring more BC wines to Alberta because we deserve it. British Columbia has amazing vineyards. Their location is just off of Clement, 1125 Richter Street. The people that are giving you these taste testers are so knowledgeable and extremely smart, the atmosphere in Sandhill, in general, is amazing. The place that they have is not their actual vineyard. Sandhill Wines actually has six vineyards in southern BC; Sand Hill Estates, Kings Family, Phantom Creek, Osprey Ridge, Hidden Terrace, and Vanessa Vineyards. So those six are completely different, and that way they can produce so many different wines, every grape needs different sunlight, different soil, and different love. The addition of Gretzky Wines putting a bunch of money for an expansion in their Calona Vineyards, Parenting Positivity for our children, they are adaptable. They've been completely wonderful during this whole thing for over a year now. With closures of sports, swimming areas, seeing their friends, other than school. It's tough for them. Mental Health I made the mistake of stepping on a scale. Four-part series. Body, Mind, Soul, and Community. This week we're going to focus on the body. Yoga with Adriene. She is absolutely phenomenal and she was the first one I did my 30-Day Challenge with. Walking, closing rings, set of pushups, squats, sit-ups, and jumping jacks, three times every day. That's the new plan for our in-house gym that we have set up here. Dapper We're going into fashion, thank you, Gen Zed, for getting rid of the skinny jeans, skinny jeans were never my bag I could never wear them it was never my thing. I still have my jeans from high school, and I love the baggy loose fit. Green Shirt Day This is the anniversary of the Humbolt Broncos crash that happened last year Logan Boulet before that crash had actually registered as an organ donor. And that's what green shirt day is about. If you haven't, take your time to register as an organ donor. Because if something were to happen to you. The number of lives that you can save moving forward is amazing. Tooth Fairies, Celebrities, and Being Dapper Online - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 31 To start off I want to introduce a new podcast that just got added to the OBVIOU5 Media Group. My good friend PJ and I have started the “PJ and Clay Experience”, and you can see that up on Friday mornings. You are able to download it anywhere where you have your podcast feeders. In that podcast we talk about parenting, being 40 and growing up in this world, we talk about the hospitality industry, and we talk about sports. So, if that's something that you're looking forward to, you can find us on Twitter @PJandClay and you can find us on iTunes, Spotify, or any other wonderful podcast app. Wet Your Whistle Wednesday Alley Kat Brewing has been around in Edmonton for the last 25 years. I picked up one of the mixer packs, and it comes with the Scona Pilsner, Buena Vista Brown Ale, the Fish Bone New England IPA, Fullmoon Pale Ale, ApriKat Apricot Ale, as well as the Main Squeeze Grapefruit Ale. Now the thing I wanted to quickly touch on, usually when I get a fruity beer, I don't enjoy it because it's just too sweet, and you can't enjoy more than one, whereas Alley Kat with their two fruit beers that they have out, the ApriKat and the Main Squeeze; it's such a subtle hint of fruit that it just adds to the flavor and adds to the whole beer in general. The brewery is located just north of the Whitemud crossing on 99th, in Edmonton. Parenting I wanted to talk about the point in time we keep playing the fantasy of the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, or whatever your religion follows, or what time do we say okay that's enough. I say just enjoy the moment that you're in. Mental Health I actually want to give a shout-out to all of the celebrities and all the professional athletes in all the people with any kind of status out there, or a huge number of followers that have really stepped up and embrace their own mental health. Thank you; here are a few of the people that I follow and who have helped me along my path: Robin Williams Michael Landsberg - @HeyLandsberg #SickNotWeak Kelly Hrudey - @KellyHrudey Tyler Motte - @tmotte_14 Prince Harry – Better Up Dwayne Johnson - @TheRock Dapper Living the lifestyle and walking the walk. We're dressing fine we're talking fine we're opening doors, everything's great, but until you are dapper within, until you are stoic in your everyday movements, and that includes online. I want you to find out all the facts and I want you to find out both sides of the story and then I want you to make an educated choice on if you need to reply. If you do reply make it a positive reply. If it's helping that person commenting and commending that person, great. If you don't agree with that person, excellent, can you educate that person on why you feel that way. Being dapper is a lot more than dressing well and getting a good haircut. Being dapper is a lot more than opening doors and paying the bill, being dapper is the way that you interact with people, whether it's face to face or online. Spring Time Is Your Time - An OBVIOU5 Voice - 030 Wet your whistle Wednesday Today we're talking about Eau Claire Distillery. This distillery is out of Turner Valley, and this particular drink that we're going to have today is the Saskatoon Honey Gin. The nice thing about Eau Claire in Turner Valley is they are extremely community-oriented, they've been around for a very long time. This distillery has been in the family for generations, and they don't just do one thing, this distillery has done so many different products, and their arsenal of drinks that they actually have that you can purchase is amazing so if you ever get a chance or you find it. Eau Claire Twitter - @EauClaireCraft Instagram - @eauclairecraft Parenting Springtime. Easter is coming, it's getting nicer out the kids, have been rambunctious they've been locked in the home for so long with gross weather. It's time for them to get outside. Help them or get them to help with the yard, let's get them active let's get them moving. Mental Health Now we're going to talk about you, your mental health. We're going to talk about body, mind, and soul. Spring is here and it's time to start looking after your body again. It's tough being stuck in the winter hibernating when you're under lockdown. Dapper Body Confidence. This is all tying into one thing, spring is here so now it's time to start stepping it up. When you're confident in your body and when you're confident how the way you look, you're going to come across as a stronger person. And I don't mean strong as a bully, but I mean more confident. The more that you put into your body, the more confident you're going to be in yourself. Dad tip of the day “People try to get away from it all, to the country, to the beach to the mountains, which is all idiotic, you can get away from it all, anytime you like. Positivity and Walking the Talk - An OBVIOU5 Voice – 029 @CaptainOBVIOU5 Parenting International Women's Day happened a couple of days ago, empowering women in general, because I don't believe it should be a one-day thing. I feel as though this is something that needs to happen every single day, we take for granted what women actually do for us in our world in our economy, and in our lives. As a father with two daughters, how can I properly support and guide them forward? Mental Health I just recently got my private health care in place, and I had to take a bunch of boxes and I had to go through an assessment and answer some questions. Is it reasonable to deny medication to someone previously diagnosed with mental health and depression? Dapper Moving on to part two today of the two-part “How to Be Dapper” series. living the lifestyle of being dapper is being dapper. It's how you interact with the world and the people around you, it's how you act when people aren't looking. It is how you are as a person. It's not just the clothes that you wear it's not just having bleached teeth or having a buff body. To me, that's just being a poser. Confidence, Reliable, Chivalrous, Level Headed; the four components on how to BE Dapper. Wet Your Whistle Wednesday Mission Hill Reserve Shiraz 2015 Mission Hill Family Estate The Shiraz is one of my favorite red wines. When I talk about mission Hill the actual winery itself Mission Hill has been around since 1966 so it's one of the older wineries in Kelowna and the Okanagan, it's a beautiful winery and has so many different things from wine tours and tastings, it's has a restaurant and an amphitheater; the whole area is absolutely gorgeous. Dad Tip of the Day “Positive Mind positive vibes positive life” can't be any easier said, yet more difficult to do. Facebook Group
Surviving One Year of COVID and the Dapper Lifestyle – An OBVIOU5 Voice Episode 28 This week we are going to go through our parenting we are going to go through our mental health, we're going to go through being dapper, but we're also going to be adding Wet Your Whistle Wednesdays. Each episode we're going to be doing a different drink it's all going to be local, so something from Canada, it's going to be either beer or wine or some kind of liquor that was born and raised here in Canada. What we are looking at is the Sin Bin Red Ale done by Medicine Hat Brewing Company Parenting What do you do when you catch your child in a lie? As parents instead of getting upset we need to take a step back from the situation understand what's going on in their head, what was going on at the time. How big of a degree of an issue is this a silly little issue is a big issue. Be Calm and have an honest conversation about what telling a lie can do to loved ones. Mental Health This marks a one-year anniversary for COVID here in Canada. We are a year removed from that situation we're still battling COVID we're still battling restrictions that are going on, and we're still battling with ourselves, not being able to go and see friends and family have hugs be with our loved ones and it's really taking a toll. So, my question to you, how are you coping. I want you to do an inventory of your feelings of your emotions of your body and your mind. And I want you to take a second and just think about the last year, how it's affected you how it's changed how you approach things today. How you can be better, and how you can make adjustments moving forward. Dapper We are going to revisit what dapper actually is and I'm going to make this a two-part series. Dapper (adj) - Neat trim and appearance or bearing. Bearing (verb) is to carry or conduct oneself in a particular manner. What we want to talk about in part one today is we're going to talk about how we Dress and how we Look. Dad Tip of the Day "Take what you can from your dreams, make them real is anything.” - Dave Matthews @CaptainOBVIOU5 Medicine Hat Brewing Company facebook.com/OBVIOU5World
DBAD, The Anti-Bullying Episode - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 27 @CaptainOBVIOU5 facebook.com/OBVIOU5World One week away from anti-bullying day here in Canada, February 24. Don't Be A D!c% antibullying OBVIOU5 Voice shirts. Proceeds from the purchase of the Pink DBAD shirts will be going to The Foundry Penticton. Send me a DM or message and we will get you going today. Parenting As we have anti-bullying coming up next week, I want us to take this opportunity to talk to our kids about what they do, how they interact with their friends, and how when they think they're playing a joke or saying a joke to a friend or a classmate or a sibling, that the words they're using may actually be hurtful and not a joke at all. Mental Health Words hurt more than you could ever know, and as adults if we're in the workplace, or if we're having beers with buddies, we may say something jokingly when in actuality, you may be digging to the core of something that's deep down inside that person that they've been fighting a battle with for a very long time, or maybe they've heard it so much that they've actually developed a complex and now they don't know how to deal with it. Dapper Being dapper is being the bigger person and stepping in when you see somebody that is being belittled or talked down to or made fun of, be the bigger person, stand up to that person. There are bullies all over in our world and they are everywhere. Dad Tip of the Day “Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make yours shine any brighter.” The reason why people bully, other people, is because they are jealous of that person, they feel inferior to that person. They want what that person has, it really comes down to jealousy or they're trying to get a laugh from the people around. Hat giveaway this month. All you need to do is get on Facebook, find the preview feed that I put up on the OBVIOU5 World page on Facebook, share it, like it, and comment. All the people that do those three things I will put you into the mix I'll draw one name out of the hat and I will send you said hat
You do Have the Strength - An OBVIOU5 Voice - Episode 26 @CaptainOBVIOU5 Parenting You know that I am a big follower and a big advocate for Movember and what they do during the month of November, and how we bring awareness to mental health and men's health in general. What Movember has done now, they've actually developed a new site, and it's called the “Familyman”. It’s parenting strategies that have been put together designed with fathers in mind, to help progress their knowledge and be better parents, and just to help navigate how to deal with young kids, especially during the lockdown and the amount of time that we're all spending together at home. Go to familyman.movember.com. They have a bunch of episodes already set up and these are between 10- and 15-minute episodes and they deal with a whole bunch of lifestyle and parenting type issues. These are free content funded from the donations made through the years to Movember fundraising. Mental Health I want to talk to all the single people out there as Valentine's Day approaches. I was doing some research and for people that are stuck at home, a lot of people hate this day. This can be a huge detriment to our mental health and how we feel in the days approaching, including this date. A website I found was verywellmind.com, the 10 best ways to enjoy Valentine's Day alone. 10 best ways to spend Valentine's Day Solo. Ignore the day be kind to yourself - cook and eat your favourite meal, engage in some goal setting, engage in hobbies, sleep late, take the day off work, write a gratitude journal Be your own secret admirer. Avoid love triggers Make other plans FaceTime or Zoom, or Houseparty with other single people. Phone a family member or friend Brighten somebody else's day keep up your daily routine pamper yourself Dapper I want everybody to think about how to be classy through the weekend. Let people enjoy their day. Don't be a downer on somebody else's day. There's no need to be that dark cloud over somebody else's head. Words are powerful, I want you to be careful before you speak or before you text, or before you tweet. I have the pink shirts that will be available this week, and it's going on sale for the anti-bullying campaign with some proceeds going to The Foundry in Penticton Dad Tip of the Day "When life gets harder challenge yourself to get stronger” Movember Familyman.Movember.com Verywellmind.com The Foundry Penticton
The Love Edition - An OBVIOU5 Voice Episode 25 We are now talking about Valentine's month; we've got 10 days until Valentine's Day. A lot of people out there are in the same boat that they're a big fan of Valentine's Day, they plan for it, they make reservations they buy the expensive gifts they make sure that they treat their woman or man with the utmost love on that special day. We're going to jump into that with all three of the chapters today parenting mental health and being dapper we're going to talk about love. Parenting Talking about how you and your significant other, you and your partner, you and your lover can continue to have that relationship when you are at home, while you have kids there. Mental Health We need to give, what you give is what you get back. Dapper I am speaking directly to the men out there right now. This is not the only day that you should show love to your partner. This is not the only day that you need to buy flowers for your lover. This is not the only day, you need to buy a gift for your significant other, listen to me now, guys. There are 365 days in the year. Dad Tip of the Day “Isn't that how falling in love, so often works, some stranger appears out of nowhere and becomes a fixed star in your universe.” Tex-Style Tex-Style sportswear in Lethbridge Alberta is working with me right now on T-shirts that I've got coming out. I'm going to pick them up next week and they should be live on the website at that time. facebook.com/OBVIOU5World @CaptainOBVIOU5
#BellLetsTalk Day, The Mental Health Episode – An OBVIOU5 Voice Episode 24 January 28th is #BellLetsTalk day so today's episode is going to be about mental health all the way through. Last year they raised $154 million towards mental health initiatives. This is such a great cause. This is the way that they do this and this is how you're going to help out if you are in Canada, $0.05 per call, every text that you send on the bell network, every tweet that you use #BellLetsTalk, Instagram, and YouTube video that you watch from Bell, every TickTock / Facebook / Snapchat that uses the #BellLetsTalk filter goes to this initiative. Parenting This is the time that as parents we need to be stronger, because now that we're going into almost a year of COVID lockdown and restrictions, not being able to go and see families, or go to the movies or go to restaurants. Those are the little things that we're missing, it also attacks our mental health. So as parents and as adults we need to be stronger now more than ever, it trickles down because our children are starting to feel the effects too. Mental Health I want to get everybody out there to reach out and phone a friend. If you haven't heard from somebody in a long time, just give them a quick call and say “hey how you doing”. Send a text and ask “how are you doing I haven't heard from you in a while hope everything is alright”. Those little texts and phone calls are so important, but when you reach out, shut up and listen. Because the people on the other end of the line, these people are fighting with depression. They've got a lot to say, but all they need is that little push over that line. Dapper The mental health correlation that I want to make is self-love. Being dapper all starts inside your head and inside your heart. Take care of yourself. Dad Tip of the Day “Mental Health is not a destination, but a process. It's about how you drive, not where you're going.” Facebook Group – An OBVIOU5 World Discord - An OBVIOU5 Server @CaptainOBVIOU5 on Twitter and Instagram
Social Media and Kids, Being Dapper is Being Stoic - An OBVIOU5 Voice Episode 23 Parenting. I want to really talk about our social media, we need to educate ourselves and I know that we're growing older and parenting in that 40-year-old range right now. A lot of the social media is out there, you're not as quite in tune with it as we need to be. Whether we talking about Facebook or TikTok or Twitter or Snapchat or whatever new social media is out there right now, these are just the messaging centers where a lot of our kids are already on there and they're already sharing stuff. You need to educate yourself on where your children are, what they're posting. Mental Health This week we're talking about Blue Monday, I believe I've mentioned this in a podcast, last year, or even in a blog post something to that effect however I want to bring it back because I did some thinking about it this year. Blue Monday was something that was coined in 2004. So, 16 years ago is a long time in the mental health thought process and how we talk about mental health, and how we share about our mental health. Blue Monday is it a real thing? Dapper The rough path ahead is going to get really bumpy. We don't all have our vaccines we're still in quarantine, we're still trying to fight through the doldrums of January in a COVID era. What we need to do, being dapper is to be stoic. Dad Tip of the Day “There's always something coming, good or bad, it's going to help you grow every day”
Take your shot - An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 22 Parenting Take your kids skating. I never knew how much this has brought my girls and I together. Mental Health Live in the moment. Yesterday is the past, tomorrow is a future however today is the days that we make the memories Giveaway Follow and retweet @CaptainOBVIOU5 for twitter followers Forward this https://www.facebook.com/OBVIOU5World episode 22 to your friends on facebook I will give away a hat to one of you Dapper Be classy. We've got all seven Canadian teams in one division, and that means every single Canadian fan is going to be fighting against each other for 56 games. It's going to be cutthroat, it's going to be gruesome and it's going to be nasty be classy. Dad Tip of the Day “You miss 100% of the shots, you don't take” - Wayne Gretzky.
We’re on the back nine; the plan for 2021 – An OBVIOU5 Voice Episode 21 Welcome to episode #21 of an OBVIOU5 Voice my name is Clay Wiebe or Captain OBVIOU5. I will be giving away our new hat next week on the podcast so stay tuned on how you can win that, I've got a bunch coming in so I'm going to try and give one away per month for the next six months. Tune into next week's podcast and I will tell you exactly how you can get your hands on one of these beautiful new lids. Parenting We want to talk about goals for our children and how to help them set these goals up. You don't want to set these goals, too high or too long. The biggest thing is if you set them too long, like a yearlong goal, then you may lose their interest throughout the year. So, make these goals for your kids smaller make them achievable, and cheer on their little wins. Mental Health We've got to be more diligent with our mental health. What I want to remind everybody that struggles with depression and mental health, or if this is the first time that you're actually noticing that you may be depressed going through all of this, you need to do. You acknowledge your feelings you recognize your feelings, then take a step back and breathe, and then we can take steps to change the course that we were on or find out why. Dapper when we go into January and we go into New Year's resolutions we go into a brand-new year and a brand-new book and it's a brand-new page and a brand-new chapter and we're all super jacked and super excited about it. Do it for nobody else, do it for yourself, mentally you'll be more intelligent you'll feel better with your body. And that's going to help you be dapper moving forward as well. Dad Tip of the Day “Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in a low time. Never make your worst important decisions when you were in the worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass the spring will come.”
Teen texts, A solo Christmas, Setting up for success, Festivus – An OBVIOU5 Voice – Episode 20 December 23, this will be the last episode of 2020, and it's only right to end on episode 20. Parenting “kk” Understanding your text messages from your teens. Every generation, we all have our different lingo and the way that we say things and the way that we talk to our friends. Even more so now with texting and with this next generation. Mental Health Two sides of the story when we're talking about mental health this year with Christmas, how to survive a solo Christmas as a single dad. And there are a lot of people out there right now that are extremely happy with the restrictions. Because they don't have the stress with Christmas. Dapper Setting yourself up for success for next year. As we get rid of 2020, we know that 2021 is going to be one special year because everyone's going to be going out and pushing harder than they ever had before. Once everything is open back up, you hit the ground running and you're way ahead of everybody else. Do the steps now. Festivus; airing of grievances. This is basic, after the garbage that we've gone through, I want to talk about the stupid people during COVID. Dad Tip of the Day “Smile as often as you can. You never know what can happen tomorrow.” “Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.” - Dave Matthews Band
Pay it Forward, Be Kind - An OBVIOU5 Voice Episode 19 Parenting During these Christmas holidays, there are so many people out there right now that are in more need than others. I want to talk to you and everyone out there about how we can pay it forward. It starts with us, and it's how we can help and support our children in understanding the concept of paying it forward. Mental Health A tweet from Michael Landsberg. “I can't tell you that you are not alone. Because I've been where you are. And those words are hollow. But I can tell you that your pain is understood your desire to retreat is understood your belief, it will never get better is understood. You are understood. #sicknotweak” Dapper During these Christmas times seeing the struggles during COVID, during these little lockdowns that were stuck in; the frontline workers whether they be nurses or police officers, whether they be people working at the grocery stores or people that are driving your delivery services, people that are standing at the counter while you're getting gas or getting milk or getting ice. These are the frontline workers that we need to be more aware of. And you being dapper in your own mind and in your approach. Dad Tip of the Day "When everything seems like an uphill struggle. Just think of the view from the top.”
Navigating Another Lockdown - An OBVIOU5 Voice - 018 Parenting Going into this situation we now know that Christmas has been basically taken off the table, going and seeing relatives going and seeing family members going and seeing parents or having siblings come and visit us, or being able to be with our loved ones which is the biggest thing that we've had to deal with over the last nine months of this COVID era we're living in. But what I wanted to mention in the parenting aspect is, how are we going to educate our kids on what's actually going on. And not only that, if we've had conversations and we've gone through the process of wearing masks of washing your hands or using the sanitizer. When we start rolling into 2021, we start getting our vaccines, then we start moving forward because we need to do this all together so that we all can move forward. Mental Health Thinking about the mental health of the small business owners out there right now. With these lockdowns and these new precautions that are coming into play. The number of people coming into their stores is going to be very, very limited. So how can we go about helping out these mom and pop shops and these small businesses, what can we do to make sure that they make it through COVID, with their business intact, so that when all the restrictions do lift. People can start coming in again. Dapper I want you to think about taking one or two days of your week to get up, have that shower, and feel refreshed, it's going to help you get through your day as well. A lot of you have to do meetings online through zoom and FaceTime. This is a great opportunity just to get up, put some makeup on, make you feel better. Get up, have a shave. Let your face feel refreshed. Because the better you feel, the better you are going to project yourself, the better you project yourself, the better you will be in the long run. Dad Tip of the Day 12 daily reminders. The past cannot be changed. Opinions don't define your reality. Everyone's journey is different. Things always get better with time. Judgments are a confession of character. Overthinking will lead to sadness. Happiness is found within. Positive thoughts create positive things. Smiles are contagious. Kindness is free. You only fail if you quit What goes around comes around.
Dad-splaining, My Trigger, Be Dapper - An OBVIOU5 Voice - 017 I wanted to quickly touch base with Movember and I wanted to reach out and thank each and every one of you that have donated and sent along any of the best wishes that you did and support that you gave me. We ended up Movember at $420, and every single one of those dollars counts towards helping Men's Health. Parenting This is something with my daughter she jokes with me all the time about this, and I'm sure many of the women out there can attest to this at the same time. But I want to talk about how to help out with homework or simple conversations without dad-splaining. The joke that's actually going around with my daughter and I, she wants me to get a tattoo like a dictionary entry, where I have dad-splaining up top and then underneath it explain what dad-splaining is, which I think is actually quite cute, won't be doing that, but I think it's funny, and it's one of those things that we all do... Mental health. My trigger for my mental health and my depression comes from this month. December is a tough month for many different reasons and I don't know when it actually started for me. The amount of time that I was spending alone in the house and the amount of time that I would either be reading something or watching something or seeing something on the internet that would push me further into that depressed state and seeing kids on TV, seeing kids interact with their fathers on TV. Certain blurbs on the internet about loved ones being together... Dapper. No matter what happens, no matter what you hear, what you read, or what you see, always be dapper. There's something that is going to set you off or put you down a path that is not very stoic, you need to take a step back, take that breath and have a thought, think about where this information came from... Dad Tip of the Day “Today's mood or emotions or thoughts, don't belong to tomorrow.” Anything that we're dealing with today is today's baggage. Deal with it today. Then when you wake up tomorrow it's a brand-new day, a fresh start. It's time to move forward. So, anything that's happening today all of your thoughts, your moods, your emotions, understand it, see it. Then deal with it. We'll move on to tomorrow we'll start fresh. Every day is a new day. we see the sun come up every single day.
Movember is Ending, the Dialog Must Continue – An OBVIOIU5 Voice - Episode 16 Quick Movember update. We are at $400 currently donated to my page. Just to give you a quick reminder of the Movember contest that I am running right now. If I can get to $1,000 donated, then I will be shaving my head. If I can get to $1,500 donated, then I will be shaving my head and roll in the snow in my boxers. If I can get to $2,000 donated, I will shave my head and I will roll in the snow in my boxers, and get my chest waxed. All right, so we've got five days left, five days. What we need to do is we need to make sure that we use these last five days, and we keep going, keep the conversation going. But after these five days are over. Don't stop the conversation, be that person be that advocate. Talk about mental health, talk about testicular cancer. Talk about prostate cancer. Parenting Our children learn from us. They see what we do and they mimic it. And if we do it over and over again, it becomes part of their life and their values, and the way that they develop as adults. So, we need to step up and we need to make sure that we are better role models for our children. Mental Health Today, I want to reach out to everybody that does suffer from depression, because this is your turn to turn it around and help other people, confusing as that sounds. We're going to be going into another lockdown here right away, and when we do, many people that don't suffer from depression or never have, they're going to start to feel these feelings and they have no idea how to deal with them. So, all of us that have to fight every day through this mental illness, then we need to show support to them. We need to show them that we understand. Dapper Getting into a full-fledged argument and yelling and screaming at somebody because you know what getting your argument across doesn't mean getting louder. Okay. You can't get louder, they're not going to listen, they stop listening. So why don't we have intelligent conversations adult conversations we listen to the other people's sides. We try to understand where they are coming from and what they see. And then we explain our sights. And who knows, maybe we can come to a mutual understanding. Maybe we can't. And that happens Dad Tip of the Day You are not weak, people like us. We're brave. We're the ones who get up and face our worst fears, every day. We keep fighting. Keep fighting. Be strong. Every morning that you wake up and you fight that battle. Keep fighting, because I know it's hard. I struggle. I try and put my best foot forward. We're the brave ones that fight every single day and we wake up every single day, and we move on to the next day. Every day is difficult. Don't think about next week. Don't think about Christmas. Think about tomorrow. How can we be better tomorrow. That way we can move on.
Movember update. Currently, we are sitting at $300, so let's get that going. We've got two weeks left, we're midway point of Movember. This is the time that we need to really start to amp it up. Because two weeks into any kind of a fundraising event like this, we start to get complacent. We've heard it already for the last 14 days. And do we want to hear more about it? Yes, yes, we need to hear more about it because we need to talk about mental health. And we need to talk about men's health. The contest, if you hadn't heard previously, is the Movember quest $1,000. If we can make it up to that, I'm going to shave my head, $1500 I'll shave my head and roll in the snow; $2,000 then I will shave my head, roll in the snow, and get my chest waxed. Doing it all for a good cause. Parenting Letting our kids know that dreams can become reality. Helping them, propping them up, and not making them feel like it's not possible. Certain situations come into play and our children will have many, many dreams. They want to be princesses or unicorns, or sparkly sharks. The thing is, we need to help, let them understand that that's all possible in this day and age, if they want to be an NHL player, or if they want to be a YouTube star or a twitch streamer, help empower them, and let them know that the possibilities are there. If they want to be a doctor or a lawyer, or a police officer. The possibilities are there. Let's guide them. Mental Health These holidays are going to be difficult. We know that going in, this is going to be hard for so many people, it's going to be dark. But we know this going in. So let's do things to prepare ourselves that we're not going to be able to go and see everyone and spread the Christmas cheer like we used to, we can't go to people's houses and have those cocktails and the rum and eggnogs. Because the situation that we're living in right now in this COVID area is not the same as it was last year or the year previous, or 20 years in the past. Be smarter than this. Let's just sacrifice this holiday, so that next year, we can go and see our loved ones we can be with our soul mates, we can hold our parents. We need to be smarter. Dapper You don't know how somebody else lives unless you walk a mile in their shoes. I know. That's not the quote. So, don't hit me on that. But what I'm getting at is everybody is suffering and everybody's fighting and everybody's lost things. Yes, you didn't get to go to Mexico this year. Yes. You didn't get to play hockey in your beer league team this year. Yes, your children. are missing out on some friends' time. Everybody is suffering. There are people that haven't seen loved ones for months. There are people that have lost parents. Other people are fighting through the same thing. Dad Tip of the Day “Keep looking up, that's the secret of life” - Charlie Brown. As we go through our struggles for the next few days, the next month, and who knows how long, keep looking up, look to the positive. Because that's how we keep going. That's how we fight through these dark times. And that's how we climb out of our holes. Think of the positive. Hold on to it. That's the secret to life. You will get through your struggles.
An OBVIOU5 Voice ep 14 - Movember Challenge https://movember.com/m/claywiebe?mc=1 This year I wanted to put a bit of a challenge out there I wanted to set a three-tier challenge on what I can do to help motivate more people to send off 10 or 20 bucks because when I hit that first tier which is going to be the $1,000 threshold, I'm going to go and shave my head. If we make it to $1500, then I will be shaving my head plus I'm going to strip down to my boxers and roll down a snowy hill. If I can raise $2,000, I'll be shaving my head, rolling down the hill in my boxers, and I'm going to be waxing my chest. It's gonna be interesting, setting the challenge out to you guys, setting the challenge out to myself, and trying to raise as much money as possible for Movember. Parenting We need to do the best we can and practice personal responsibility. And that's going to be sacrificing, sacrificing going out and seeing friends you haven't seen for a long time. The more than we can sacrifice now, the quicker we can get back to where we were a year ago. Do the best you can. It's gonna be tough, but reach out, because we've got this amazing thing called technology. We can FaceTime we can zoom we can text, we can chat all the time. I know it's not the physical contact that we're all used to or that we like. So as a parent, I want you to do the best that you can to try and keep the spread under control because we've got a lot of bubbles that are connecting right now so let's just try and limit those to what we can do. Mental Health There's another lockdown coming so you have to do the best you can to keep contact with your children, mentally, it's going to mess with you. It really starts to get the depression going again, and a lot of you have seen it, and a lot of you are just experiencing this depression for the first time, and you're really confused about what this feeling is and why you're feeling tired and down and lethargic and then all of a sudden other voices in your head saying, you should be doing this, why aren't you doing this, and you start giving yourself sh!t for not doing the things that you used to be doing. It's such a vicious circle. You just need to stop, take a breath. You need to make sure that you come back in your element, and say, Okay, I understand what's going on. Let's just stop and think about it. Dapper Being dapper in society means supporting your neighbours. and in this situation, if you're one of the first people out there shoveling snow. Why not hit the neighbours to the left or hit the neighbour to the right, or if you know that there's an elderly neighbour on the street. Why don't you step up and jump across the street and help them out too. It's one of those things that we can band together as a neighbourhood, especially during this lockdown. Do the best you can to help other people, because you have no idea how much it supports them, and it puts a smile on their face and it just helps them along the right path. Anytime we can help, we should step up and do that. So let's be a little more dapper with our neighbours Dad Tip of the Day “You're doing great. You're stronger than you think. Don't give up.” This is gonna be big. This is something that I forget a lot, and I know a lot of people out there forget to, but you need to remember that you're doing great. You're stronger than you think. And that's the one thing I need to keep telling myself. I'm stronger than the voices in the head telling me I am, so don't give up. Every day is a new day. You fight through today, get on to tomorrow.
It has been almost a year since my last episode. However, it's about time that I got back on the saddle again. Lots of stuff has happened in the last year. And I fell hard. I went into my hole again, and I do apologize because the purpose of this podcast was to help and support other people that suffer through depression or support people that know people that suffer with depression, and I failed you. But looking now that we are in Movember. It was time for me to get it together. And I guess it actually really encompasses a lot of stuff that's been happening with politics, and what's going on in the States, what's going on in the world as a whole. And it's racism and. As a parent, what your beliefs are is what you're putting on your children are not born racist. Children are not born to know colour of skin or religion or any of those beliefs. What they're brought up with is what we're instilling in them. So we need to be better people. If you have some ideologies. You may need to take a step back and think about what's going on in the world. And I'm not talking about blue or red who's right who's wrong that it's not the point of this, but being dapper Dad Tip of the Day Self-control is strength. Right thought is mastery calmness is power. James Allen.
“Team play for kids growing up nowadays and for them developing into young adults is so important because it teaches them so many things, and it's necessary going future as they become young adults and moving into the work world. Just how to deal with other kids how to deal with other people, if they don't know how to interact with people, then they're going to have a lot tougher time when they start getting into the workforce, and they have to integrate with other people that they don't know or don't understand, and different, different characteristics of.” “You have to be the one to take control of your life, just as much as everybody else needs to be helping you. It's a two-way street. And I appreciate more than anybody. How deep and dark you can go like that. And it's a sad scary state of affairs, but you can do it, you can climb out of those holes. You just got to dig a little deeper and hold on to the happiness that is their fight through it, because you've got friends and loved ones that are out there for you.” “Okay, if you're not shaving No Shave November, then your beards are getting a little crazy as well. Now if you are one of the gentlemen out there that have the big long beards, we're going to talk about manscaping we're going to talk about how to make sure you look the best that you can look.” “Dad quote of the day. The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine. And I find this is extremely important because for so many of us, we have daily routines that we follow all the time. But there's so many times where we fall off those daily routines for one day. And one day turns into two days, which turns into a week or a month. It's okay to fall down. You need to get back up and start following those daily routines again.”
“If you're out there, growing the mustache yourself or helping promote anything to do with Men's Health right now, whether it be testicular cancer, prostate cancer or suicide prevention and mental health, I want to thank you very much for being a foot soldier when it comes to all of this stuff that we talked about during the month of Movember.” “There's venom that's being spit on all the social media platforms right now, and it's a sad state of affairs because all of these platforms were developed and built for us to share ideas and share stories, and to entertain. And as of right now, there's just so much hatred and negativity on these platforms that our children are actually seeing that, and they think that it's the norm. And this is not a good thing at all” “You need to always be checking out your body you need to be more in tune with what's happening with your body. Certain pains certain feelings is something that you actually need to be aware of.” “The keyboard warrior is out there. But the only thing that fuels the keyboard warrior. It's showing that they got to you. You need to be stronger than them. Don't worry about the crap that's being sent towards you, or about what your opinion is or about what you're wearing or about what you're doing in life. As long as you're okay with yourself, as long as you are happy with the way that your life is going, and nothing else matters. Other people’s opinion does not matter in this kind of a situation. It's tough. But you need to be strong” “Dad Tip of the Day. What if today. We were just grateful for everything. Charlie Brown. We need to start moving on, and enjoying the good things in life, be happy with being alive and not worry about what we don't have. Be grateful for the people in your life. Be grateful for the friendships you have. Be grateful for the love that you've developed with another person. Stop looking at life as regrets. Stop looking at what you should have done. Whatever is done is in the past. The fact that you're alive, breathing air and living on this great Earth. That's an amazing thing.”
https://mobro.co/claywiebe?mc=1 “If you aren't participating in Movember whether you're growing the mustache yourself, or you're helping out others, spreading the word. Those are the biggest things that you can do for this whole month. Now, the first seven days are always. Everybody's going crazy talking about it, but then as we get to day eight it starts to linger off, and I don't want you to stop. We need to keep this conversation going. We need to have these conversations with our friends and our family and our loved ones, talking about it as the biggest thing. This helps get rid of the stigma of mental health. And if we're talking about it then people are listening and if people are listening, then we won't forget.” “One out of seven Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Now that's a lot and you're looking at a room of guys and you think about that one in seven men. So there's 14 there two of you are going to be diagnosed with prostate cancer, making sure that you catch this early enough is the biggest and best thing you can do, and obviously donating and making sure that the research is there.” “Being dapper, a way of life being stoic. What you need to do is present everything with kindness. Now, this can be difficult at certain times. But the way that you react to people in the way that you treat other people is the biggest thing.” “Dad Tip of the Day When you feel like stopping, think about why you started on so many different levels and so many different things. This is so important, and whether you're working on a project, personally, a hobby that you're working on something to do with your family or something at work, or maybe you've quit that job, and now you're off on your own. You need to think about the reason why you started this in the first place. Because that's going to help you get through any kind of feelings of defeat or frustrations or any of those dark voices that are in your head saying you're not good enough and you can't do this. Take a step back, take time for yourself and analyze why you actually started this in the first place. What the reasons behind that work. And that's going to help you move forward.” “You need to get to that finish line. The only way to do that is to navigate those speed bumps. To fight through the frustrations, because you are good enough. And you are strong enough. And you will make it.”
https://mobro.co/claywiebe?mc=1 Movember “I don't want you to be helicopter parents because that's the absolute worst aspect, the helicopter parent right now in society is really not helping out our younger generation, so don't be the helicopter parent.” “However, let's look at the other side of it. What if your kids are actually the bullies? Right. You may not want to accept these things, you may not want to look at this and say, Yes, my kid is that dick at school and he's being the bully. Everybody thinks that their children are the angels, my kid can do no wrong. Well, guess what, you don't know as much as you think you know about your children.” “Mental health and suicide prevention and I think this is the most important that we look at. Obviously talking about prostate cancer and testicular cancer seeing your doctor checking your genitals and making sure that everything's okay down there is a huge thing, but mental health is something that we're just scraping the surface of, and it doesn't just affect men, it affects everybody in the world, there's a man that is down dying every minute of every day from suicide on this planet.” “By 2030, they want to reduce the rate of male suicide by 25%. Now that's a huge on taking 25% Now think about that. If we could reduce that in the next 11 years. What else can we do, and it has a lot to do with conversations, helping other people that are depressed that don't know how to help, how to help themselves. So, if you want to look further into this, go to movember.com.” “Dad Tip of the daydreaming. After all, it is a form of planning, Gloria Steinmen. I want to touch on this because I don't want you guys to stop dreaming, ever. When you have a dream, those dreams become goals. Goals become reality. Once you've taken the steps to make that happen. You're going to be happier.”
Taking Responsibility - An OBVIOU5 Voice - 008 “Letting our kids know that it's okay to fail, and a lot of the kids nowadays, I don't think they quite understand the fact that failing is a part of life. Failing is a part of learning, and you learn from your mistakes, and you learn from not being able to save the princess on the very first try.” “Don't let the depression get you down. Do me a favor, learn from those mistakes. Talk about depression, talk about how you're feeling, one thing I have noticed is a lot of you guys out there, a lot of the next generation coming up the Gen Zed and the millennials, you're a lot more open to talk than a lot of the older generations. I applaud you for that don't ever stop. It's okay to talk.” “I look good, I felt good. And I felt good. I played good. It's just something that was part of me, and I've taken that with me all the way through. And I believe that's a special part of being dapper. Dressing for success is a huge thing. You want to dress up, you want to look the part, and you want to go out there and crush your goals. When You look good, you feel good. When you feel good. Everybody else sees it.” “Dad tip of the day. Accept responsibility for your life. How many times have we made excuses for something that's gone wrong in our life? We need to stop that sh*t right now. Take responsibility for your life, for your actions, for something that you let happen, or something you've done yourself. Taking responsibility is step number one. The person down the street, they can't live my life for me. Whatever position I'm in right now. I take full responsibility for that. The choices that I made in the past; I take full responsibility for that. I am where I am today because I take full responsibility of that. And the positive part is, I am where I am today, Because I take full responsibility for that. “
“And It's just those little things that they remember. And I want to make sure that the rest of you out there are taking those moments to make the best of them. If they're asking you to be pushed on a swing, then get up and do it. If they want to go and play tag if they want to play hide and go seek, if they want to build a fort. It's these little things, these moments in time that you have direct impact on, and you need to take full advantage of that Because It's little moments like that that sticks in their head as well, and when they're 25 or 30 years old and they're thinking back; what do they remember about their childhood. I hope it's one of those moments.” “So I've talked too much about other people and different aspects of depression and mental health, and I want to step into my world quickly. When I found out that I was in a depressed state, I didn't talk a whole lot about it, mentioned it with my family talked a little bit there. My brother in law talked with him a bit about it. My best friends had a couple of conversations. But I never really went deep into any one aspect or what I thought was going on or how I was going to combat it.” “Dad Tip of the day. The man on top of the mountain didn't fall there. Vince Lombardi. Think about this. Everybody starts off at the bottom. You've got to climb your way up. You've got to claw your way up that mountain to the top. You've got to fight you've got to be relentless. You will make it to the top of the mountain. As long as you don't give up. You've taken the first steps. You've hit the first plateau. There's no sense stopping now. You fight for everything that you want. Because right at the top of that mountain is everything that you're fighting for.”
“And I just want everyone to be aware, especially if you're in a divorce situation single mothers single father, someone that doesn't get an opportunity to see their kids as much as they like, Just letting them know that no matter what you're always there, whether it's a phone call away, an opportunity to FaceTime, a text is the easiest, quickest thing. But for them to know that a parent is there for them at any time is such a boost for their confidence in their morale and knowing that even if they're having a tough day, or something that happened, then they can reach out. And you're there without any issues whatsoever is such a big, big win in their little world right now. And they're going to grow older and things are going to happen.” “CTE is there in the average Joe and the reason why I say this is we all need to be aware of people that have these side effects. When it comes to depression, impulse control problems, aggression, anxiety, suicide ability, Parkinson's, and then eventually dementia and it's all going to come.” “Being courteous to people on the street, in a restaurant, holding the door for somebody, if you see somebody going to enter a restaurant or any kind of a shop gas station, let's say and you're a step in front of them, doesn't take much out of your day to step ahead, pull the door and then step aside and let the person walk in front of you” “Never be ashamed of a scar. It simply means that you were stronger than whatever tried to hurt you. We all go through life and none of us are going through life unscathed. And whether it's an emotional scar, internally, a scar that you wear on your chin from taking one too many shots in the face. The scars are there and It shows that you were strong enough to live through whatever that situation was.”
“It's really good to keep that open line of communication going no matter what. So never disappear, keep that contact going. And I just wanted to make sure you all understand how important it is for them. Like I said they may not be feeding you a novel's worth of information on how their life is going but knowing that you are there ready for reply is a great thing in their eyes.” “I'm seeing a lot of backlash on the interwebs pertaining to these two athletes. In particular, a lot of fans are upset that these players are leaving their team and how the team is going to be left without these players. They're more worried about the wins and losses and the fantasy pools than they are about the actual mental health of these athletes. These are human beings.” “D-BAD. Acronym stands for, “Don't be a dick.” Super simple, hard to remember for lots of you out there. Basically, what it comes down to is treat others the way that you want to be treated. Don't be a dick basically comes down to the fact that you shouldn't be an a-hole. The people need to treat people a lot better out there. And it doesn't matter where they are, what they're doing in their lives or what's going on. Just be good to people.”
“It is September 10th, and today is WorldSuicide Prevention Day. And I wanted to dig a little bit deeper into this, just for a few of you that are out there. This actually affects so many different people on so many different levels.” “My Classic line was I'm fine, and trust me, my mom absolutely hated hearing that. I love you, mom. But I would say that all the time, because I didn't want to talk about it. I didn't want to get into it, it was the hardest thing to get out, and I didn't know how deep and dark I was.” #DadTipOfTheDayToday “Storms don't last forever”
“Finished off the yoga challenge of August, we did 31 yoga sessions in 31 days, and it was quite the experience. And it was something that really helped me through a lot of different things, emotionally, mentally, physically, as well. And just the actual commitment of getting onto that mat every single day for 31 days was hell and experience.” “So, we're going to keep that going for the next 30 days of September, if you guys know of any challenges or anything that you do for yourselves, share it with me. Tweet at me at Captain OBVIOU5 or even join the Facebook group. And let me know in the comments section, what you do to challenge yourself each and every month. And it's something maybe that I can pick up and try for the upcoming months moving forward.” #DadTipOfTheDay “If you wait for everything to be perfect before taking action on your dream, you'll never take the first step.”
