This week, we discuss two films from English director Jack Clayton. The first is The Innocents (1961), a gothic psychological horror film starring Deborah Kerr, Michael Redgrave and Megs Jenkins. Based on the 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw by the American novelist Henry James, the screenplay was adapted by William Archibald and Truman Capote, who used Archibald's own 1950 stage play—also titled The Innocents—as a primary source text. The second is Our Mother's House (1967), a British drama film. It nominally stars Dirk Bogarde (who only appears in the film's second half) and principally features a cast of seven juvenile actors, including Pamela Franklin, Phoebe Nicholls and Mark Lester, with popular British actress Yootha Joyce in a supporting role. The screenplay was based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Julian Gloag. Eccentric billionaire Rudolph Deutsch wants someone to figure out what (or who's) been haunting the old Belasco mansion, the “Mt Everest of haunted houses.” Apparently the house has something to do with the secret to life after death, so Deutsch enlists a team of potential rivals to get to the bottom of it: physicist and sometime paranormal investigator Barrett and his wife Ann; mental medium Florence Tanner; and physical medium Ben Fischer, the sole survivor of the last attempt to exorcise the old home. Almost from the jump, something's off – no one trusts each other, science butts heads with pseudoscience, and when the actual haunting comes, no one really wants to discuss it. No one, that is, except for Florence and Ben, who've seen enough in their time to recognize the dangers that lie within Belasco House. And by the time the possessions begin, furniture starts shaking, and chandeliers start tumbling, it's too late to turn back. The team must see this through, and get to the bottom of what's been driving Hell House's off-the-charts psychic energy. Based on a novel by Richard Matheson and directed by John Hough, this 70s take on The Haunting stars Pamela Franklin, Roddy McDowall, Clive Revill and Gayle Hunnicutt and features homicidal chandeliers, ninja cats and Roddy slapping a naked woman. The Legend of Hell House is a 1973 supernatural horror film directed by John Hough, and starring Pamela Franklin, Roddy McDowall, Clive Revill, and Gayle Hunnicutt. It follows a group of researchers who spend a week in Belasco House, the "Mount Everest of haunted houses." , originally owned by Emeric Belasco, an imposing, perverted millionaire and supposed murderer whose acts of debauchery were loosely based on the occultist Aleister Crowley. Belasco disappeared soon after a massacre occurred at the home and since the house is haunted by the victims of his twisted and sadistic desires. Subsequently, paranormal investigators to the house have been inexplicably killed. Matheson's screenplay, based upon his 1971 novel Hell House, drastically reduced some of the more extreme elements of the novel, particularly its graphic sexuality and BDSM. It also changed the location of the events to England, whereas the novel took place at an estate in rural Maine in the United States. The external shots of the house were filmed at Wykehurst Park, West Sussex. The mansion in the opening sequence is Blenheim Palace. The interior shot of the long room is the palace's library. The role of Belasco was played by an uncredited Batman's Michael Gough. His part consisted of a couple of recorded lines and an on-camera appearance as an embalmed corpse seated upright in a chair. The film features a score with an electronic music bassline (with occasional woodwind and brass stabs). The score and electronic sound effects were created by Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson, recorded at Hodgson's Electrophon studio in London. The shot of the cat in the opening credits sequence was later used for the Granada Night Time ident on the ITV network in the United Kingdom in 1988.$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$£$Just in case anyone has too much money and wants to give a bit to us to help with our hosting n stuff. Doug and Pamela spoke about the unique needs of Finance Executives from a networking and professional development perspective. Since senior Finance decision-makers are typically in possession of confidential company information, there are limitations to the internal conversations they can have at their home company. Further, Finance and Accounting tend to be very numbers-focused, which can crowd out focus on building and developing a high-performing team. The CFO Leadership Council seeks to bridge this gap by providing a networking community and continual skill development (Eligible for CPE Credit) to members.
