Neve Francis is starring as Billie in Possum Trot, the brand-new play from award-winning American playwright Kathy Rucker, coming to Theatre At The Tabard this November.Inspired by the ongoing battles faced by family farms across America's heartland, Possum Trot seamlessly blends poignancy with laughter for a timely exploration of pervasive issues affecting small-town communities. Set in Possum Trot, Nebraska, the play follows Maxine, a resilient diner owner on a one-woman mission to preserve the spirit of her town while wrangling with her chaotic family. Frantic but hilarious, Possum Trot showcases the universal insight that even in the toughest circumstances, humour and community can overcome adversity. Also, with World Aids Day approaching, we talk to some of the team from Brigstowe about the latest treatments and their hopes going forward.
This week, the White House leaked plans to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies for some of the millions of people who stand to lose out from their expiration. But that's on ice after Republicans declared it a nonstarter. That could hurt them in the midterms, and oddly, it comes as President Trump just exploded in a wild tirade about the elections. He falsely ranted that Democrats will open our borders and unleash DEI, and urged the Indiana GOP to hurry up and gerrymander to stop Democrats. Meanwhile, Republicans tell Punchbowl News that they're losing the House, that resignations are coming, and that “morale has never been lower.” But if so, why not renew ACA subsidies to try to save yourselves, Republicans? We talked to New Republic staff writer Monica Potts about her good new piece on the GOP predicament. We discuss the roots of GOP anti-ACA hatred, why Republicans bank on election-rigging, and how it all explains GOP plutocratic politics in the Trump era. Looking for More from the DSR Network? First there was a 28-point plan pushed by Trump last Wednesday, as a solution to end almost four years of a war that has devastated Ukraine and killed hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians. By the weekend, there had been a redraft. A slimmed down 19-point proposal. This time seemingly less skewed towards Russia. By Tuesday, at a summit in Abu Dhabi, US, Russian and Ukrainian officials were hammering out a third version. The Guardian's Russian affairs reporter, Pjotr Sauer, told Nosheen Iqbal what it has been like to watch these twists and turns
Londinium 91 AD: The Aging Emperor's Urgency. Gaius and Germanicus discuss the physical and mental state of emperor Trump, noting his senior age and frantic, restless pace as potentially signs of an aging brain or alternatively adrenaline and confidence. Germanicus believes the emperor is acutely self-aware of his limited time, driven by tremendous brutal urgency to secure a lasting legacy including fiscal stability, border control, and eliminating principles like DEI. However, the stress of this frantic pace combined with age could cloud his judgment, making him more impulsive or desperate. The emperor's focus on revenge cycles, such as indicting former directors, is typical of historical emperors against their enemies. Germanicus worries this could lead to physical decline and reckless action. A critical marker of a republic's collapse into an emperor system is when the incoming president pursues and imprisons his predecessor, an easy push into civil war seen in places like Brazil. They conclude the transition is quietly happening, with the question of whether the U.S. will experience violence remaining unknown. 81 BCE SULLA Retry

Does your dog lose their mind the second food appears? In this episode, Emily walks through a simple, science-based strategy to help “frantic feeders” relax around food. Learn how to use food to make food less exciting (yes, really), what common mistakes sabotage your progress, and how to tell when your dog's excitement has shifted from over-the-top to just-right joy. TLDL (too long, didn't listen): 3 Key Takeaways 1️⃣ Use Food Casually – Stash food around the house and hand out small bits throughout the day, no big deal, no fanfare.2️⃣ Mind Your Energy – Keep your own body language calm and neutral.3️⃣ Measure Success by Calm, Not Silence – Look for less frantic energy, more focus, and safe, joyful engagement. My thoughts for this week: Just because the work is quiet doesn't mean it's not important. This really just boils down to a fight we all face: foundational vs. frantic. Just like the autumn season here in the Northeast U.S. has a purpose, it's vital to define the purpose of the season you're in. You define it. Take agency over it. My definition for Q4: depth of execution, not volume of activity. You might be in a different season. Good. All I'm saying is: define it. Amid outrage over government's delay to launch the Commission of Inquiry into the explosive allegations of Police Capture made by whistleblowing general Lucky Mkhwanazi - and fears of a cover-up in the making, BizNews speaks to Juanita du Preez of Action Society over the smoke and mirrors behind the scenes. “If people have very big secrets to conceal…,they will do anything to keep it covered and secret. That's why we see everybody scrambling around and we don't know what is going on exactly behind the scenes, where the alliances are.” She questions whether Police Minister Senzo Mchunu - who is on special leave -might be seeing his alliances dry up. As for former Police Minister Bheki Cele, she says: “…I don't I don't think his alliances are that strong anymore…maybe he overstepped into the criminal world too much. We all know he was involved in the criminal world, but maybe his alliances were not as strong as he thought. And people are covering their own backs, not his, because he doesn't have power anymore.” As for General Mkhwanazi who is continuing to open cans of worms, Du Preez says: “We should be careful not to make him a messiah, but at least he's a whistleblower. And it seems like he really does have...the best interest of the South African Police Service and South Africans at heart.”

On Ron's Amazing Stories this week, Ears That Betray, Eyes That See. We head into the murky world of eavesdropping, unspoken truths, and the heavy price of hearing too much. With two chilling tales from the golden age of radio, we explore how curiosity doesn't just kill the cat—it occasionally takes a few bystanders with it. Stories Featured: The Whistler – “The Witness” - Original Air Date: July 8, 1951 - A brilliant young architect sees his career implode—only to be offered a lifeline from a coworker with a price. When ambition mixes with manipulation, the cost of success may be far higher than anyone imagined. Suspense – “Sorry, Wrong Number” - Original Air Date: May 25, 1943 - Written by Lucille Fletcher. Starring Agnes Moorehead in her most legendary radio performance. An invalid woman, confined to her bed, overhears a phone call that pulls her into a deadly web. Frantic, powerless, and unheard—her night spirals into sheer terror. Host's Note: From architects of fate to victims of coincidence, both tales remind us that sometimes, hearing too much—or seeing too clearly—can be the beginning of the end. Evil doesn't knock. It whispers. And if you're unlucky enough to be listening... well, you've already invited it in. President Trump is in a rage over his inability to get MAGA to stop talking about the Jeffrey Epstein files. He unleashed a furious Truth Social tirade on it, and then rambled bizarrely about it to reporters for a minute straight. Meanwhile, striking new polls from Quinnipiac and from CNN show wide public dissatisfaction with the whole fiasco—and both show large chunks of Republicans are also unhappy about it, suggesting his shutdown efforts aren't working. Rolling Stone writer Asawin Suebsaeng has a new piece entitled: “Inside Trump's Frantic, Failing Mission to Crush the Epstein ‘MAGA Rebellion.'” It details how efforts by Trump and his lieutenants to get this under control involve all kinds of fraught and complicated intrigues inside the Court of MAGA. So we talked to Suebsaeng about what's really going on here, why it's failing, what's coming next, and how the whole thing reveals Trump's level of contempt for his own voters with uncommon clarity. ‘Frantic' at 5AM — Teen Testifies About Karen Read's Disturbing Wake-Up Call In one of the most emotionally charged moments of the Karen Read trial so far, the niece of John O'Keefe took the stand and delivered testimony that could fundamentally alter the jury's perception of that fatal morning. According to her, Karen Read was already acting “frantic” at 5AM — long before John's body was discovered in the snow. And the reason Read gave for waking her up? She feared she may have “hit someone.” This testimony cuts directly to the heart of the defense's narrative. If Karen was already expressing panic and guilt before the body was found, what exactly was she reacting to? And how could she know something was wrong with John unless she had something to do with it? In this episode, we dissect this critical testimony — what was said, how it was delivered, and how it may influence jurors on an emotional and psychological level. The teen's account not only contradicts Karen Read's claims that she was being shut out by the O'Keefe family, but also reveals a possible moment of unconscious confession — a window into her state of mind as the truth began to settle in. We also analyze the courtroom strategy behind presenting a minor's testimony, how it's protected, and why the prosecution is leaning into the raw, unfiltered emotional accounts of those closest to John. This isn't just about what happened in Canton that night — it's about what was said in the hours that followed, and how those words may be impossible to take back.
