On Strike interviews Cornel West about his Green Party campaign for president, which offers a sorely needed left alternative for working and young people. We talk with Dr. West about his working class political program, internationalism, the fight against racism and all oppression, and the vital importance of mass movements. As Dr. West says, “In the end, without mass movements, the best politician in the world is still shallow and hollow.” We ask Dr. West about his commitment to run all the way to November 2024, and not endorse Joe Biden. On Strike also comments on the ongoing debate about the campaign's decision to bring on former Democratic Party insider, Peter Daou. #CornelWest #MedicareForAll #CancelStudentDebt#CornelWest #MedicareForAll #CancelStudentDebt #MassMovements #ClassStruggle #RentControl #Internationalism #WeNeedANewParty --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/onstrikeshow/support

In a recent interview, veteran journalist Carl Bernstein said that the political sides in this country are moving toward a kind of cold. civil war. But this week's first guest, veteran blogger and political operative Peter Daou, says that we're already in a civil war, and it's not cold. He cites the killing of Heather Heyer in Charlottesville, the violence of white nationalist groups, the Trump supporter who mailed explosive devices to prominent Democrats and CNN, and the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting as examples. One of the key fronts in this war is social media, which is the subject of Daou's new book, “Digital Civil War: Confronting the Far Right Menace.” We're joined next by Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna. She's recently been named an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow, an honor that confers a $100,000 grant, money she's using to fund a new project called One River, A Thousand Names, which will convene a series of workshops and readings along the Columbia River. Democratic political adviser Peter Daou has long toggled between the world of presidential campaigns and online activism. He worked for the presidential campaigns of John Kerry in 2004 and Hillary Clinton in 2008, and he has built a large social media presence with which he wages battles for progressive causes. Now he has channeled his experiences into Digital Civil War: Confronting the Far-Right Menace (Melville House, 2019), in which he analyzes the daily political skirmishing that rages online, urges progressives to engage on the “digital battlefield.” While acknowledging the deepening polarization of American politics, he argues that the polarization is “asymmetric,” with Republicans becoming more “extreme” than Democrats. During the 2016 Democratic primaries, political strategist Peter Daou was one of Hillary Clinton’s most vocal and prominent boosters, especially on social media. In addition to his relentless advocacy on Twitter, Peter was the co-founder of “Hillary Men,” a website that purported to serve as a “safe space” for male feminists who supported Hillary Clinton — and, by implication, to fend off her sexist rivals in the Bernie camp. To Clinton supporters, Daou was a diehard on the front lines of the digital battlefield of the 2016 race. To Sanders supporters, he was a walking caricature of the movement behind Hillary: zealous, earnest to a fault, and bent on weaponizing identity to attack Clinton’s political opponents.Nomiki Konst was on the opposite side of that battle. Nomi was, and is, a fierce Bernie Sanders supporter, regularly appearing on cable news shows to make the case for his “political revolution.” Since then, she has worked for The Young Turks and was a candidate for the office of New York City Public Advocate.Back in 2016, Nomi and Peter routinely mixed it up on Twitter. But a rare thing happened last year: Peter changed his mind. As he recently wrote in The Nation, he is now convinced that the threat of a Trump re-election is too grave to risk on the squabbles and rivalries from 2016 that continue to divide the Democratic Party. He is now counseling his fellow Clinton supporters that it is time to abandon their grievances and to prepare to unite behind whoever emerges at the front of the pack — even if it’s their hated rival, Bernie Sanders, a candidate Daou has even come to admire. Social media being what it is, of course, Daou has been greeted with invective and contempt by many of his erstwhile followers. This is the first time Nomi and Peter have ever spoken to each other directly, outside of the social media platforms that have come to define our politics. We’re excited to host this discussion, because this is exactly what we set up our podcast to do: to take these performative online beefs and turn them into real conversations.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/extremelyoffline)

Authentication Code: 0123456 Join Danny and the Christian Humanist Podcast's Nathan Gilmour for a fun, angry rhetorical analysis of the internet's newest laughingstock, Verrit.com. Learn about Hillary Clinton sycophant Peter Daou, nephew of Fear of Flying author Erica Jong, and his Freshman Comp capacity for essay-writing. What's a "Daouist?" What do Kenneth Burke, Aristotle, and basic logical argumentation have to say about Verrit? Why can't Liberal rhetoric succeed outside the "serious middle?" Will Danny finally be able to enter polite society after purging his rage over the stupidity of Verrit? All this and more! In this episode—the longest in the history of our show—we'll cover President Trump's cruel decision to end DACA along with his plans to resell ‘trickle-down' economics to the American people. We'll also focus on the return of Hillary Clinton and challenge the arguments made in her new book, ‘What Happened.' But Hillary Clinton's return was accompanied by her most prominent minions including Peter Daou (with a new pro-Hillary propaganda website to attack progressives called “Verrit”) and Joy Ann Reid (who claims the Democratic Party should focus on identity politics and ignore economic issues). After covering these knuckleheads, we'll shift focus to Medicare for All in the second half of the show. Finally, we'll end the episode on a lighter note with a Patreon Q&A, and an interview with 2018 congressional candidate Sarah Smith and comedian Ron Placone, respectively. It's the last episode for two weeks, as Mike will take a break to get hitched. Oh yeah—we also passed 25 million total views! Woohoo! So if you're able to sit through 3+ hours of Mike ranting about politics then buckle up, because we've got a great show for you!

Folks, Matt is no longer Skyping into the show from Ohio. He's officially moved to New York. But a funny thing happened... We talk about Verrit (this was recorded before Peter Daou shouted us out and we officially endorsed it), and conservative raps. Here's Alex article about conservative rap: https://theoutline.com/post/2178/the-infinite-awfulness-of-conservative-rap

The Deep State Coup Against President Trump. Some say we're witnessing a "silent coup" in America, but it seems the unaccountable Deep State is loudly flaunting its power, almost to the point of exhibitionism. Will they get their man? Our fragile democracy hangs in the balance. Do elections matter anymore? Does America actually belong to Establishment Embeds in the Beltway -- or rather still to the American people? We observe the curious comfort displayed by Leftist commentators, such as Dana Bash and Peter Daou, in ceding control of America over to the "intel community." Is that what the Founders had in mind? Meanwhile, the emboldened Never Trump cohort attempts to rise from the grave, with David Brooks offering stale armchair Trumpian psychoanalysis and Bill Kristol hinting at his plans for "disposing of Trump." For old times' sake, Jeb Bush and John McCain join the chorus. Will they ever get their reputations back? Also, CNN's "Anderson Pooper" gets scatological, and Julie Pace of the Associated Press shares her wisdom on the "grueling pressures of foreign travel." Plus, notes on the unsurprising Harvard study of Media Bias and the late Roger Ailes' contributions to conservatism.
