Political resistance to Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign

John is joined by a pair of former GOP panjandrums turned NeverTrump stalwarts — attorney George Conway and political strategist Stuart Stevens — to discuss the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case and Donald Trump's efforts to turn the U.S. into a police state. Conway and Stevens argue that the guardrails preventing that outcome are banged up but still holding; that the real test of them will come when (not if) the administration defies the Supreme Court even more flagrantly than it has already; and that Harvard is offering the kind of a master class in resistance to MAGA bullying that many of the nation's top law firms have been too gutless and/or greedy to provide. They also explain why Trump's economic illiteracy and its consequences may prove to be what saves American democracy. This week on the Mark Levin Show, Federal District Judges lack the authority to mandate the return of deported individuals to the United States. This power is beyond their jurisdiction, and there is no desire to allow illegal criminals back into the country. The demands of these radical judges are considered preposterous and out of line. Democrat-appointed judges want to continue pushing for due process for illegal aliens who are being sent back to their countries. These are people who violated our laws; they are not being deported because of their race. Democrats often use the race card to sway voters or start racial issues that have nothing to do with race. Judges appointed by Sen Chuck Schumer defend these illegal aliens, who never even come to court to address their illegal status. You are hearing it in the leftwing press, in the Never-Trump editorial pages and more - you cannot and must not deport anyone without some kind of notice and due process. Yet, there's nothing from these people on how this is supposed to actually work. What kind of due process are they talking about? The kind of due process that applies to citizens? A memorandum signed between Ukraine and the United States, marking a significant step towards a partnership in mineral development. Learn more about your ad choices. On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, you are hearing it in the leftwing press, in the Never-Trump editorial pages and more - you cannot and must not deport anyone without some kind of notice and due process. Yet, there's nothing from these people on how this is supposed to actually work. What kind of due process are they talking about? The kind of due process that applies to citizens? If not, then what lower standard suffices as constitutional due process? Exactly how would due process, of any kind, be administered to millions and millions of illegal immigrants? We don't have enough courts of any kind in our country to handle the tsunami of cases that would be involved. This was all intentional. The border was opened to anyone. This is the Cloward-Pivens strategy: flood the system, overwhelm the system, break the system, and in doing so achieve your goals. Effectively, this is massive amnesty. Also, it seems these Federal judges are trying to stop mass deportation efforts and disrupt the Trump administration's response to Biden's mass immigration policies. Later, Hans von Spakovsky calls in and explains that he was stunned by Judge Boasberg's order because he's blatantly defying the Supreme Court. Boasberg's order was void from the moment he signed it. So how can he hold the Trump administration in contempt? Either Boasberg is incompetent or he's deliberately ignoring the Supreme Court. Afterward, Jonathan Turley calls in to discuss the criminal referral against NY AG Letitia James. James claims that her Virginia home was her principal residence. That was not and cannot be true because she was and still is an official of the New York government who must live within the state. What's notable about her false statements is that each one worked towards a better mortgage rate. Then, the Declaration of Independence discusses natural law and natural rights. Where do these concepts originate? They are influenced by John Locke and Montesquieu, but not entirely, as they ultimately come from God. When they say the people are sovereign, that ide comes from God. This is why the government can never be sovereign. The United States is first county on earth to be founded on these principles. Finally, Heritage President, Kevin Roberts, calls in to discuss the organization's impactful projects and ongoing efforts to revitalize federalism in America. Roberts shares insights on the current political landscape, the significance of state legislative work, and the importance of maintaining a conservative agenda while addressing challenges such as tariffs and international relations. In this thought-provoking episode, Jim Baer sits down with political scientist Steven Teles, professor at Johns Hopkins University and co-author of The Captured Economy and Never Trump. Together, they explore the shifting class dynamics fueling America's political polarization and the deepening distrust in institutions—from higher education to public health. Teles unpacks the realignment of the Democratic and Republican parties, the decline of union-based class identity, and why our government struggles to get big things done. With sharp insight and a rare ability to speak across ideological lines, Teles highlights the paradox of an economy that protects the powerful while making life harder for the working class. If you care about the future of democracy, the role of universities, or how we might rebuild public trust—this one's for you.

In this episode, Alex talks about how some Senate Democrats voted with Republicans to avoid a government shutdown. Alex is furious at Democrats like Chuck Schumer and spends the episode talking about how the Democrats are not equipped to handle this moment. He also argues that Democrats should start taking pages from the “Never-Trump” playbook and actually challenge Republicans before all of the damage is done. Sometimes, if you are in the wilderness for too long, you get very lost…
On this episode of Unsupervised Learning, friend of the podcast, Charles Murray returns to chat with Razib again. Murray has been a public intellectual and scholar since the 1970's. He is the author of Losing Ground, The Bell Curve, Human Accomplishment, Real Education, Coming Apart and What it means to be a libertarian and Human Diversity, among others. Born in 1943 in Newton, Iowa, Murray has a BA from Harvard, an MA and PhD from MIT, and did a 1960's stint in the Peace Corps in Thailand. He has held positions at the American Institutions for Research, the Manhattan Institute and the American Enterprise Institute. More than four years after their last conversation, and seven years after his official retirement, Murray reflects with Razib on where he sees America going in the next decade, and what has surprised him about the last 25 years. Razib asks what it is like to be a long-standing “Never Trump conservative” and a libertarian in Trump's populist America. They also discuss the end of the “awokening” that began in the mid-2010s, and whether Murray's long exile from notice and acknowledgement from mainstream opinion-leaders and tastemakers is at an end. Murray also addresses the ideological fractures he sees on the right, and how America will deal with the last generation of mass immigration that has altered the US' demographic balance. They also discuss how taboo it still is to talk about group differences in cognitive performance, and whether America will be able to face the reality of demographics and the social consequences thereof in the 21st century.

And our guest George Conway, a well-known figure in the "Never Trump" movement, shares his insights into the global implications of Trump's psychopathy and inherent sadism. We'll kick off the show with a reflection on the exhausting chaos of Trump's second term, six weeks in. And we take a hard look at the recent meeting between Trump and Zelensky, a pivotal moment when America betrayed its allies and continued its descent into authoritarianism. Dr. Siegel describes how, in that meeting, Trump's grandiosity, narcissism, and pathological need for recognition played out with disastrous consequences in real-time. Dr. Gartner breaks down the erratic display—marked by grandiosity, followed by sudden deflation and aggression. The hosts expertly explain how Trump's impulsivity and lack of foresight clearly manifests itself when Trump is threatened, leaving him open to manipulation by figures like J.D. Vance. And the duo emphasizes how Trump's penchant for authoritarian leaders, like Vladimir Putin, is undoing long-standing alliances and destabilizing the Western World. Dr. Gartner and Dr. Siegel close out the show with powerful words, urging our listeners to remain vigilant, active, and informed in this fight against tyranny. “I think Americans are going to take to the streets. There's part of me that believes Trump wants Americans to take to the streets, because Trump wants to use the military.” - Joe WalshFormer Republican Congressman Joe Walsh was once a proud ally of the right-wing Tea Party – the movement that many believe paved the way for Donald Trump. But today, Walsh is no fan of Trump. In fact, he's become one of the most vocal ‘Never Trump' Republicans and is now officially an independent, having endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024.In this first of a two-part interview, Mehdi and the former Congressman discuss the fallout from Trump term two so far, the Democrats' failure to fully push back against him, and whether the US is heading towards civil war.“The Democrats seem to be caught flat footed,” Walsh tells Mehdi. “He [Trump] told us every single freaking day during that campaign what he was going to do. He told us every day during that campaign he was going to be a dictator, a king, and for him to win and then be sworn in, and the Democrats really don't know how to react to it – that's been mind boggling to me.”Walsh also explains to Mehdi why he believes the US is currently in a “constitutional crisis” and how Congress should have confronted billionaire Elon Musk.“We're supposed to have three independent branches of government… Congress isn't there,” Walsh says. “A healthy Congress would have hauled Elon Musk's ass in front of them under oath three weeks ago and just said, what in God's name are you doing?”Mehdi asks Walsh whether he believes the US may be heading to civil war, to which Walsh replies: “Hell, yes.”Watch Part One of this discussion above, which we are making available in full to both free and paid subscribers, to hear Walsh on whether Harris's catering towards Republicans cost her the election; Elon Musk's role in the White House; and why Democrats are still playing by the “old rules.”Also, keep an eye out for Part Two of this wide-ranging interview, coming soon, where Mehdi challenges Walsh – a vocal supporter of Israel – on the Israeli government's genocidal rhetoric and the many accusations of war crimes. In case you missed them, here are some recent stories from Zeteo: This is a public episode. JD Vance emerged as a media darling with “Hillbilly Elegy,” his best-selling 2016 memoir of growing up poor in Ohio, but it's just one of several hats he's worn—Yale-trained lawyer, Silicon Valley venture capitalist, Never Trump pundit, Pro-Trump senator, and Vice President of the United States—all by the age of 40. On this episode, host and Vanity Fair editor Radhika Jones is joined by executive editor Claire Howorth and Hive editor Michael Calderone to trace Vance's populist ride through America's power centers and how his right-wing ideology dovetails with a burgeoning constitutional crisis. It's a DOGE-eat-DOGE world. Before I get into my thoughts on DOGE—and I have quite a few—the reason I haven't written much about it (we did touch on USAID in Wednesday's update) is that I'm still wrapping my head around it.There's a lot of noise surrounding DOGE, and beyond the clatter, it's unclear exactly what's happening. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is in the valley. They lost a big election, have no effective power in government for at least the next two years, and have been throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall. Chuck Schumer was parading around with a Corona and lime when it looked like we were going to hit Mexico with 25% tariffs, and now, the focus of the last 72 hours has been Elon Musk and DOGE.Because DOGE sits at the center of a political noise machine, I tend to be cautious about jumping in while everything is still in motion. That being said, DOGE is a significant development. What they're doing is something every Republican candidate in my lifetime has promised—and it may very well be illegal. We don't know if they're actually cutting the budget in the way they claim, nor do we know if anything they're doing is truly unlawful. But the fact that both of those questions exist simultaneously is reason enough to take a deeper look.Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency—DOGE—was conceived during Donald Trump's 2024 campaign and made official on January 20, 2025, the first day of Trump's second term. However, it is not a formal cabinet department. Instead, it began under the U.S. Digital Service, which was rebranded as the U.S. DOGE Service, before being placed under the Chief of Staff's office—likely to avoid transparency requirements. The stated goal of DOGE is to modernize federal technology and software to maximize government efficiency, with Musk claiming they aim to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. Musk has admitted that if they say $2 trillion, they might actually cut $1 trillion, but the ambition remains.DOGE operates out of the Eisenhower Executive Building next to the White House with a small headquarters of about 20 people. Rather than a traditional hierarchy, it functions as a task force embedded across government agencies, with small teams of DOGE operatives placed inside agencies to audit systems and pursue efficiency measures. Musk himself serves as a special government employee, a temporary advisory role that grants him broad access while allowing him to bypass disclosure requirements that apply to full-time officials. This is especially notable given Musk's extensive business interests in China—something so controversial that a bipartisan group of lawmakers banned TikTok last year.Key figures in DOGE include Steve Davis, CEO of The Boring Company and a longtime Musk confidant, who allegedly leads day-to-day operations. Then there are the so-called “DOGE Kids”—young adults, typically aged 19 to 24, from elite universities with backgrounds in Musk companies or the Peter Thiel machine. Some, like Luke Farritor, gained fame for achievements like using AI to decode ancient Roman scrolls. Others, like Marko Elez, have already faced controversy. Ellis resigned after the Wall Street Journal uncovered racist posts he made in 2024, including advocating for eugenic immigration policies and saying he would never marry outside his ethnicity. In its first 80 hours, Musk tweeted that DOGE had canceled $420 million worth of federal contracts. Get it. The issue? DOGE doesn't technically have the authority to cancel contracts. That power belongs to Congress and the departments that administer the funds. So the real question is whether DOGE is canceling these contracts or simply recommending their termination, with the speed of the Trump administration making it appear as though they're acting unilaterally.DOGE's aggressive approach has already ruffled feathers. On inauguration day, Musk's team assumed control of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) headquarters, installing sofa beds in the director's office and working around the clock. Within days, they cut off career OPM staff from internal systems, effectively giving Musk's team exclusive control over federal HR records. Two OPM employees filed a lawsuit in late January, alleging that DOGE unlawfully installed a private server on the agency's network.Things escalated further when DOGE turned its attention to the U.S. Treasury Department's payment system, which processes $5 trillion annually, handling everything from Social Security checks to federal salaries. When David Liebrich, a top Treasury official, refused to grant DOGE access, he was reportedly forced out. By January 31, Trump's new Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, approved DOGE's access. Soon after, a DOGE tech aide obtained unrestricted access to the payment system's code base and began making changes with minimal supervision—an alarming development that has raised red flags in Congress. And then there's USAID. Musk tweeted, “We're shutting it down,” referring to the agency responsible for international aid. But does Musk actually have the authority to do that? Or is he merely advising Marco Rubio, who, as head of the State Department, technically oversees USAID?If Musk is making these decisions, it's illegal. If Rubio is doing it, it's just an unusually fast-moving government operation. The speed and opacity of DOGE make it difficult to tell the difference.Meanwhile, DOGE has brought a renewed focus on federal spending. Social media has been ablaze with revelations about who benefits from government funds. Bill Kristol, a Never Trump figure, was found to have received money through USAID-funded organizations. More controversially, it was revealed that Politico received $8.2 million in federal funding last year. While some jumped to the conclusion that this was a Democratic subsidy for favorable coverage, the truth is more complicated. The money was for Politico Pro, a premium service used by government officials and lobbyists for networking and policy tracking. However, everyone I talked to in pulling this together told me Politico Pro sucks. Specifically compared to competitors like Bloomberg Government, raising questions about why agencies chose it over better alternatives. So how does this end? At some point, DOGE will hit a regulatory or legal wall that slows its momentum. They need enough public goodwill to sustain them when that happens, or the entire operation could grind to a halt. There's already evidence that Musk's influence is waning. A YouGov poll from November 2024 showed that 47% of Republicans wanted Musk to have significant influence in government. That number has since dropped to 26%, with 43% now preferring that he have only limited influence. Among all Americans, only 13% want Musk to have a lot of influence, while 46% want him to have none.DOGE's speed and disruption are unprecedented, but whether they represent true reform or reckless overreach remains an open question. All that… plus Jen Briney gives me her Doge thoughts and our final assessments of the confirmation hearings. Karol Markowicz joins the show to discuss Trump's musings on Gaza and the GOP infighting in Florida over immigration.Chapters00:00 Intro00:56 Let's Talk DOGE24:02 Jen Briney on DOGE and Confirmation Hearings40:18 Jen Briney on Confirmation Hearings01:10:02 UPDATE01:19:06 Karol Markowicz This is a public episode. Ep 24-506 Kevin discusses that every day is validation, now that Team Trump with the support of MAGA is draining the swamp again. If you think you saw Leftism lose its mind during the era of Biden, wait until these truths get revealed in 2025.[SEGMENT 2-1] Validation coming 1 What will we have validated in 2025? Maybe I should save this for tomorrow's show? We know that Trump won the 2020 election. Mail-in ballot fraud study finds…Trump “almost certainly” won in 2020 But we should know definitively in 2025. There is a joke meme where Pelosi admits they cheated Trump, and thus declares him ineligible for 2024. On that subject, there is a bloc of Democrats who want to prevent Trump from taking office. Can you imagine the crapstorm that would occur if they tried that? Things are so good for Trump, that Democrats can't get any terror groups like BLM or Antifa to go against Trump. You know you screwed up when BLM won't answer the call to protest. Maybe it's because the Democrats can't afford to pay them? They're still settling up that Kamala debt. Did you get some Kamala Bucks? Beyonce did, and speaking of her, did you see that half-time show on Christmas? One of the worse I've seen. She's trying to deflect from that Diddy story. But he also wants his cake and to eat it too. While he admits to missing mark, he falls short of admitting the truth: the NeverTrumper are made up of elitists who are angry at completely missing the mark on Trump. He began his pseudo mea culpa with his column title: “Done With Never Trump”. "It's been more than nine years since I first denounced Donald Trump as a ‘loudmouth vulgarian appealing to quieter vulgarians.' I've called myself a Never Trump conservative ever since, even when I agreed with his policies from time to time. I also opposed him throughout his run this year." Even in retrospect, Stephens ignores Trump's success. And not just for his first term, but in battling back against the most corrupt government Americans have ever seen. He goes on with his wishy-washy admittance of being wrong, but not exactly: "Could his second term be as bad as his most fervent critics fear? Yes. Is it time to drop the heavy moralizing and incessant doomsaying that typified so much of the Never Trump movement — and that rendered it politically impotent and frequently obtuse? Yes, please" Stephens then explains what he learned about Trump and his followers, alluded that both “degraded” the conservative brand, and almost wholly ignoring the reasons we fell into embrace: "It wasn't that we'd forgotten Clinton's scandals or were ignorant of the allegations about the Bidens. It's that we thought Trump degraded the values that conservatives were supposed to stand for. We also thought that Trump represented a form of illiberalism that was antithetical to our ‘free people, free markets, free world' brand of conservatism and that was bound to take the Republican Party down a dark road," Stephens wrote. Just when you think he might understand, he adds: "In this we weren't wrong: There's plenty to dislike and fear about Trump from a traditionally conservative standpoint. But Never Trumpers also overstated our case and, in doing so, defeated our purpose." Yes Stephen, you were wrong. Trump didn't change. And his style led to the most unexpected defeat of Leftism since the first time he defeated Leftism. Stephen continues explaining other areas where the virtue-signaling Conservative elites blew it. For example, he bought into the idea that Trump "might stumble into World War III" as president. A man who clearly stated for those paying attention that he would fight wars with the America economy. Stephen admitted that the Hillary Clinton Russian collusion allegations "were a smear", something even the most casual observer should have recognized. Next, he conceded that Trump acted "much tougher" on the Kremlin than the Obama and Biden administrations. The fact is that Trump kept Putin in check in a variety of clever way that the Ivy League pompous asses missed. Still, the biggest failing of the NeverTrumpers came with their prediction that Trump would not be able to bring wins to the Republican Party: "We predicted that Trump's rhetoric would wreck the Republican Party's chances to win over the constituencies the party had identified, after 2012, as key to its future. But we missed that his working-class appeal would also reach working-class minorities — like the 48 percent of Latino male voters who cast their ballots for him last month," Stephens told readers. "And we were alarmed by Trump's protectionism and big-spending ways. But the economy mostly thrived under him, at least until the pandemic." How many misses is this at this point. It's safe to say that NeverTrumpers missed on everything. In fact, Stephens also admitted that he and other "elites" prioritized the issue of "democracy", just like the Leftists who now lie on the battlefield in the wake of the 2024 election. What Stephens found out is that Americans care about their money and fairness. They witnessed a blatant dual-system of justice, and an equally disgusting open border policy that proved Democrats and the NeverTrump elitists were detached from Average Jane and Joe. "Why did Trump — so often deprecated by his critics as a fortunate fool — understand this so well while we fecklessly carried on about the soul of the nation?" Stephens asked himself. What they missed is how much Trump cared about the soul of the nation. And from his next comment, you can see that Stephens still doesn't get it. "What else did we not sufficiently appreciate? That, as much as Trump might lie, Americans also felt lied to by the left — particularly when it came to the White House-cover-up of Biden's physical and mental decline. That, as bigoted as elements of the MAGA world can be, there is plenty of bigotry to go around — not least in the torrent of Israel-bashing and antisemitism that emerged from the cultural left after Oct. 7. That, as much as we fear Trump could wreck some of our institutions, whether it's higher education or the F.B.I., many of those institutions are already broken and may need to be reconceived or replaced." Until he admits that Trump didn't lie, he's just a RINO in hibernation. Democrats lied about the 2020 election, then created multiple lies about J6. These are the two biggest lies of the Left that Democrats and NeverTrumper based almost the entirety of their disdain for Trump. Is there hope for Stephens and other NeverTrumpers. Of course. Trump has won over many critics. And if the RINO establishment can't come over to the good side of the island after this win, they are not redeemable. Stephens vows to give Trump a shot. First came Matt Gaetz. Now The Washington Post is reporting that Donald Trump's pick for Defense Secretary, Fox News personality Pete Hegseth, paid a woman who accused him of sexually assaulted her as part of a nondisclosure agreement (he insists the encounter was consensual). One Trumpworld source is even describing internal frustration over the failure to vet Hegseth in advance. We talked to leading Never Trump strategist Rick Wilson, who's launching a new effort to conduct opposition research on Trump and his most prominent allies. He explains why Trump's initial personnel moves are putting Republicans in a terrible spot—and how they betray his intent to destroy our institutions. Listen to this episode here. Harry sits down in a live conversation with Bill Kristol, one of the most influential voices in America political life for the last 35 years and a veteran of high official service in two Republican administrations. Kristol was an early and ardent opponent of Donald Trump and a founder of Republicans for the Rule of Law. Harry and he talk about his New York childhood in a conservative hothouse, his early academic success as a political philosophy professor, his transition to the practical hurly-burly world of politics, and his long stint editing the most influential magazine of conservative political thought, the Weekly Standard. They then go at length into why Trump is such a pernicious and divisive figure in America, the concrete threats he presents if elected again, and the role of the Republican Party in maintaining his influence, notwithstanding widespread contempt for him. Along the way, they explore the social and political explanations for Trump's rise and what needs to happen to restore America to a healthy two-party democracy.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

John is joined by George Conway, Bill Kristol, Sarah Longwell, and Tim Miller from The Bulwark—the #NeverTrump startup that emerged as one of the 2024 election cycle's breakout media success stories—to discuss the presidential campaign's final sprint to the finish line. The Bulwark Fab Four discuss Donald Trump's and Kamala Harris's closing arguments; the tightness of the race in the battleground states and what might sway the tiny cadre of remaining undecided voters; Michelle Obama's return to the hustings and Steve Bannon's release from prison; and the political fallout from the profusion of provocations, out-front racism, and full-boil rage on display at Trump's Madison Square Garden rally. Introducing Can Trump Voters Still Change Their Minds? from The New Yorker Radio Hour.Follow the show: The New Yorker Radio HourThe political strategist Sarah Longwell has dedicated the last seven years to understanding why so many Republicans find Donald Trump irresistible, and how they might be persuaded to vote for someone else. Longwell is a lifelong Republican who became a leader of the Never Trump wing of the G.O.P., and her communications firm, Longwell Partners, has been running weekly focus groups including swing-state voters, undecided voters, and discontented Trump supporters. These are the people who might determine the winner of the 2024 election. “I think that Donald Trump has done more damage to himself with a lot of these people who held their nose and voted for him the second time; [after] January 6th, a lot of them are going to leave it blank,” Longwell told David Remnick. “At the end of the day, what this election will come down to is the Republicans who get there on Kamala Harris, and the ones who just refuse to get there on Trump.” Longwell publishes the political news site the Bulwark, and was also the first female national board chair of the Log Cabin Republicans, which represents L.G.B.T.Q. conservatives. The two most prominent Bushies who have taken their ball and gone home in a fit of pique are Dick Cheney and his backstabbing daughter Liz. Dick and Liz have thrown their support behind Kamala Harris, which isn't a surprise to anybody. Like all of the Never Trump lunatics, they're trying justify their turncoat ways by saying that they are voting for a commie to save the country and the Republican Party. There's no way to spin that illogical garbage to make any sense, of course. Kamala Harris is a threat to the Constitution and a host of freedoms that we currently enjoy. As C.A. Skeet wrote yesterday, Dick Cheney's endorsement of Harris is "worthless," but there's a larger point: But his endorsement also speaks to something darker. It speaks to betrayal. If you don't like Trump or his personality, I understand why you wouldn't enthusiastically endorse him. But we rank-and-file conservatives nevertheless expect you to hold your nose and vote for him. Why? Because that's what we've done for you for over two decades now. The Bush-Cheney ticket was nobody's idea of principled conservatism. Your coinage of "compassionate conservatism" rang a lot of instinctive alarm bells, but we held our noses and voted for you anyway. And then we held our noses and voted for McCain. And then we held our noses and voted for Romney. We didn't call for the packing of the Supreme Court after the disastrous Roberts-led decision upholding Obamacare in 2012. We didn't endorse Obama after Bush bailed out Wall Street in 2008. Bingo. Conservatives — especially those of us who are grassroots activists — have been putting up with less-than-ideal circumstances and candidates for a very long time now. I have never once thought that the best way to express my discontent was to vote for a Democrat for president. The Democrats of 2024 are not the Democrats of 20 years ago. The party has been lurching hard to the far left for a long time now. There is no common ground to be found with them anymore. Dick and Liz Cheney have adopted the language of the leftists because they are now leftists themselves. Nikki Haley had some choice words after Liz Cheney said she couldn't understand the former governor's support of Trump. This is from my RedState colleague Jeff Charles: Haley continued, arguing, “This is about my family. This is about America.” “If you don't like him, say you don't like him, but you can't say that his policies are worse than Kamala Harris'. That's just not a fact,” Haley concluded. Sane, truly principled conservatives understand the threat that Kamala Harris poses to the country. As I have written on many occasions, this is not the time to let feelings get in the way. Actually, that's never a good idea, especially in a presidential election. We're trying to choose the leader of the free world, not find a life partner. The Cheneys and all of the other Bush remnants don't have any principles; they're simply having a years-long temper tantrum because they know that their once-special place in Grand Old Party no longer exists. If the party ever does return to something that is acceptable to the mentally unwell Never Trump crowd, the country probably won't see another Republican president. Again, Donald Trump is the candidate that the Republican Party needs in this election. The party and the country don't need any of the Capitol Hill Club Republicans who find it easier to roll over for the Democrats than to fight tooth and nail for the continued existence of the Republic. Dick Cheney, J6 Lizzie, and all of the other Never Trump Republicans should plan on hanging out with their commie Dem friends forever now. In the long run, the GOP will be much stronger because they're gone. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.
A few weeks ago, at the much-anticipated Democratic National Convention, we witnessed the coronation of Kamala Harris. It was a star-studded event. We got the Obamas, the Clintons, Mindy Kaling, Kerry Washington, Kenan Thompson—and Oprah! Basically every Democratic A-lister you could think of came out in high fashion. (Kamala came out in a Chloé pantsuit.) And then there were the Republicans: Mesa, Arizona mayor John Giles, former Trump White House staffer Olivia Troye, former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, former Georgia lieutenant governor Geoff Duncan, and former U.S. representative from Illinois Adam Kinzinger. The purpose of their speeches was not only to warn Americans about the dangers of Trump—a message we've heard over and over again since 2016—but to give other conservatives permission to do the same. To not just oppose Trump, but to vote for the Democrat. Two of those conservatives are here with us today: David French and Sarah Longwell. David is an evangelical, pro-life conservative. He's a former attorney who has worked on high-profile religious liberty cases. He was a staff writer at National Review, a senior editor at The Dispatch, and now he's an opinion columnist for The New York Times. Sarah is a political strategist and founder of Republicans Against Trump (now called the Republican Accountability Project). She's also the founder and publisher of the Never Trump opinion website, The Bulwark. The policy positions Sarah and David hold are not in lockstep with Kamala's, not even close. So I ask them: Why is Kamala worthy of their vote? What do they think about the chasm between their political positions and Kamala's? And do they support Kamala because she's not Trump, or do they actually see something in her? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On today's episode of “The Liz Wheeler Show,” Liz Wheeler delves into the BOMBSHELL newly unearthed video of Democratic veep pick Gov. Tim Walz praising an anti-Semitic radical Muslim imam. Liz Wheeler explains why this could be the tipping point for Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 presidential campaign. Will this raw video exposed by the Washington Examiner doom the Democratic ticket? Plus, the New York Times' resident “conservative” David French announces he is voting for Kamala-Walz to “save” conservatism. It makes no sense, Liz explains. Every conservative needs to be voting for President Donald J. Trump if they truly care about the country. Liz also highlights why President Ronald Reagan, GOP darling and fan-favorite of the Never Trump crowd, wasn't all that he's cracked up to be. From vaccines to divorce, the Gipper ushered in many bad things for the country. Liz also highlights five stories the mainstream media is refusing to report to you this week. Plus, there was a major freakout involving every outlet from NPR to the Los Angeles Times and even in the United Kingdom about Tampon Tim and Liz's praise of that nickname. Over the weekend, The New York Times reported that Donald Trump is deeply unsettled about Kamala Harris's successful launch, even as polls show her edging into a small lead. His anger has led him to escalate the private conspiracy-mongering about Democrats supposedly cheating in the election. We talked to Amanda Carpenter—a leading Never Trump conservative and an editor at Protect Democracy—about why it's so disturbing that Trump is already laying the groundwork to overturn a loss, a novel way he might try to pull this off, and whether the GOP will ever move beyond MAGA. John is joined by #NeverTrump stalwarts George Conway (founder of the new Anti-Psychopath PAC and ex-husband of Kellyanne) and Sarah Longwell (publisher of The Bulwark and ubiquitous focus group impresario) to discuss the state of the presidential race after the mother of all resets. The trio assess why Kamala Harris's unexpected elevation to the top of the Democratic ticket, the swift coalescence of her party behind her, and the wave of Momalamania sweeping mainstream and social media alike have left Donald Trump, his team, and the right writ large stunned, angry, and flailing. Also: how the J.D. Vance imbroglio is even worse than it appears, and who makes most sense for Harris to pick as her No. 2. LFG! But we have no plans to ever forget the shameful, public "Dump Biden" pile-on by Hollywood celebrities, our Never Trump "allies", the Pod Save rug rats, the wealthy donors -- who resorted to what amounted to down-ticket extortion to pressure Dems in tight races to come out against Biden, and most egregiously of all, the entire corporate media, including CNN, MSNBC and, leading the jackal pack, The New York Effing Times. Former President Donald Trump wrapped up this week's Republican National Convention on Thursday night with the longest speech in convention history. He started with a first-person account of the attempted assassination against him last weekend. But his promised message of unity fell apart quickly as he embraced autocrats, doubled down on false claims the 2020 election was stolen, and promised the biggest deportation in history. Washington Post reporter Dylan Wells joins us from the convention while Republican political strategist Mike Madrid talks about what's next for the Never Trump movement. And in headlines: The calls for President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race continued to snowball, a federal appeals court fully blocked the Biden Administration's student loan repayment program, and Costco is selling an emergency food kit with 150 freeze-dried and hydrated food servings with a promised shelf life of 25 years. John is joined by two veteran G.O.P. operatives turned #NeverTrump stalwarts—Mitt Romney's 2012 chief strategist, Stuart Stevens, and The Bulwark's Tim Miller—to discuss the opening night of the Republican National Convention and the extraordinary weekend that preceded it, when an assassin's bullet nearly claimed Donald Trump's life. Tim and Stuart assess Trump's subdued entrance and rapturous reception in the convention hall, his choice of J.D. Vance as his running mate, and the possibility he might emerge as a less incendiary, more unifying figure (which they deem close to nil). And they offer dramatically divergent points of view on whether Democrats should dump or double down on Joe Biden.
