A few weeks ago, there was an awesome event in Brooklyn in partnership with UnHerd called Dissident Dialogues. It was exactly what it sounds like: debates and discussions on the most pressing questions facing our society today. Questions like: Have we reached peak woke? Can universities be saved? Can liberalism be saved? Is government censorship justified? Is this the end of mainstream media? and What is the future of feminism? So basically, just the light stuff. But probably the most contentious debate of the weekend was: Is Israel's war on Hamas a just war? This is not an easy debate. Emotions run hot, the stakes are high, people's morality is called into question, and there are a lot of competing narratives. Which is all the more reason to debate the topic in public, something we always advocate for at The Free Press. Arguing no, that Israel's war on Hamas is not a just war, are Briahna Joy Gray and Jake Klein. Briahna was the national press secretary for Bernie Sanders' 2020 campaign, and is host of the Bad Faith podcast. Arguing alongside Briahna is Jake Klein. Jake is a content creator for the Foundation for Economic Education, and he is a co-founder and editor at The Black Sheep. Arguing yes, that Israel's war on Hamas is a just war, are two of our very own Free Pressers, Eli Lake and Michael Moynihan. Eli is a columnist at The Free Press and a longtime journalist covering foreign affairs and national security. And Michael Moynihan, who you've heard guest-host Honestly, is a veteran journalist, having spent years at Vice, The Daily Beast, and Reason magazine. He is also a host of The Fifth Column podcast. The debate is moderated by the one and only Russian British satirist, co-host of the Triggernometry podcast, and Free Press contributor, Konstantin Kisin. Learn more about your ad choices. In this candid and emotional interview, the author of The General's Son: The Journey of an Israeli in Palestine grapples with provocative and vital questions, like "Does Israel have a right to exist?" and "Should we in the West refer to Hamas as a terrorist group?" -- the central issues to a century-long conflict that someone with Miko's life experience is most qualified to delve into. Briahna listened to half a dozen interviews in which RFK Jr. discussed Covid vaccines, manufacturer liability, autism, vaccine injuries and more; and invited epidemiologist Dr. Vinay Prasad on Bad Faith to help her call balls and strikes. You may be surprised by what you hear. Can you really call RFK Jr. "anti vaxx?" Subscribe to Bad Faith on YouTube for video of this episode. Subscribe to Bad Faith on Patreon to instantly unlock our full premium episode library: http://patreon.com/badfaithpodcast In this deep dive with 2024 independent Presidential candidate Dr. Cornel West, Briahna presses him on his decision to distance himself from the Movement for a People's Party, eliciting details about his prospective affiliation with the Green Party that other interviews haven't captured. Is there a chance he won't be the Green nominee? If not, what then? Also, Dr. West explains in detail why he thinks RFK Jr. dramatically misunderstands the plight of Palestinians and fails to apply the same logic he uses to argue against funding Ukraine to funding Israel. They talk campaign strategy, ranked choice voting, and more. A must-listen. Subscribe to Bad Faith on YouTube for video of this episode. Subscribe to Bad Faith on Patreon to instantly unlock our full premium episode library: http://patreon.com/badfaithpodcast With two candidates running against Biden in the Democratic Presidential primary, there has been extensive conversation about whether Robert Kennedy and Marianne Williamson will ultimately serve as "sheepdogs" corraling left voters back into the Democratic fold should they lose the primary. One alternative? A dirty break: running in the general election after losing the primary. But is that even possible? Briahna talks to Richard Winger, publisher of Ballot Access News and longtime expert on U.S. third parties, about whether a dirty break strategy could work and what it would look like. He and Briahna discuss chapters on Ta-Nehisi Coates & Kimberlé Crenshaw in the wake of news that those authors and others have been omitted from the African American AP curriculum. Does the cancel culture critic have a defense of these figures being canceled despite his substantive agreement with them? Also, what does Norman, a staunch advocate of Palestinian rights, make of Ilhan Omar's ejection from the Foreign Affairs committee? The critic of identity politics weighs in on the choice to defend Ilhan as "a black woman." Thomas engaged in a lengthy exchange with New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie last week that got quite a bit of attention, so Briahna reached out to TCW to have an "offline" chat about why there seems to be so little appetite for engaging with the disproportionate use of force applied by Penny -- rather than past acts by Neely -- or the fact that Neely did not start the physical encounter in the subway that day. Also, are some left actors at fault for engaging in a degree of hyperbole in describing the event as a lynching? Or is that language appropriate given the initial framing by the New York Post and others of Penny as a "hero"? This is the best version of a tough conversation you're likely to find anywhere. Why will Workers' Alternative be different? They then move on to continuing the debate over how much the left should invest in the 2024 Democratic Presidential primary. Does the energy fomenting around RFK Jr. present an opportunity for left coalition-building? Or is there a risk that encouraging strategic primary votes creates an illusion that a given candidate is a trusted fighter for left/working class interests? This Monday episode will be made available to all, and part two will air as a premium episode on Thursday -- flipping the usual schedule. You won't want to miss part two, in which Briahna and Kshama parse AOC's recent interview with David Sirota, and address the excuses given for her strike-crushing railroad vote, among other actions in office.
