Florida was built on the legacies of men like Captain F. A. Hendry and the other cow men like him; men who created a solid economic foundation, gave generously to build their communities, and had a keen vision for the future. In this episode we examine Captain Hendry's life from his earliest days in South Georgia to his cattle empire and ultimately his navigation through the state's political channels to forge Lee and Hendry counties. Capturing the breadth of his vision and influence for Florida in this brief intro is practically impossible so be sure to tune in for the full story.

On this episode of the podcast, Amanda Head questions President Trump in the Oval Office about the cost and affordability of IVF before welcoming foreign policy expert Dr. Walid Phares for a deep dive into the growing tensions in the Middle East.Dr. Phares speculates that Trump's recent meeting with Iranian generals may have involved discussions connected to opposition figures inside Iran, while warning that many in Washington still fail to fully understand the intentions and survival tactics of the Iranian regime. He sharply criticizes Tehran's long history of oppression, terrorism funding, and crackdowns on its own people, contrasting it with what he describes as Trump's more direct and strategic approach. The conversation also explores whether the United States should actively support Iran's opposition movement, particularly younger generations pushing for change from within. Dr. Phares predicts the current standoff could reach a critical turning point by mid-June, arguing that allowing tensions to drag on may carry major political consequences both abroad and at home.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What happens when global conflict becomes deeply personal? In this episode of Mom Curious, Daniella sits down with human rights advocate Gazelle Sharmahd and Middle East expert Dr. Walid Phares to discuss the escalating tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Gazelle's advocacy began after the abduction of her father, Jamshid Sharmahd, a German-American dissident who was kidnapped in 2020 and taken to Iran. His case became an international human rights story and transformed Gazelle's life, moving her from private citizen to outspoken advocate for political prisoners and freedom movements. Joined by foreign policy scholar Walid Phares, the conversation explores the broader geopolitical context surrounding Iran's ruling regime, the role of the IRGC, and how these global conflicts affect families, civilians, and the future of democracy in the region. Together, they discuss resilience, advocacy, and the emotional toll of fighting for justice on the world stage. This conversation examines what happens when the fight for freedom begins at home - and why understanding these conflicts matters to all of us raising the next generation. Listen, share with a friend, and follow Mom Curious wherever you get your podcasts. In this episode, we cover some fun history by taking a look at the name origins for Florida's 67 counties. The names come from many sources including famous public figures, historic languages, prominent landmarks, and more. There are surprises here even for the seasoned Florida native so be sure to tune in and share it with your friends and family. Note: We had multiple undiagnosed technical difficulties recording this episode. After a second recording attempt of the second half that partially failed again, we salvaged one audio line to complete the episode. With that said, please excuse the diminished audio quality of the second half as we had to settle for one mic recording both voices.

Florida Cowman is one of those books that should be in every person's collection of books about Florida. Authored by Joe A. Akerman, Jr in collaboration with the Florida Cattlemen's Association to commemorate our nation's bicentennial, it's a painstakingly researched and very enlightening account of Florida's cattle history. Knowing that many of our listeners aren't in the cattle business and are likely unfamiliar with the book or its contents, we wanted to cover Chapter 7 with its vivid accounts of cow hunting turn of the century Florida. The chapter is lengthy so we've broken it in half. We hope you enjoy Part 1 in this episode and join us again next week for the conclusion in Part 2.
