Rating Out of 10, Come on Webs, Work! Brian: 7.3/10 Darryl: 8.25/10 The Furious (2026) Release Date: June 12, 2026 Runtime: 113 minutes Director: Kenji Tanigaki Writers: Mak Tin Shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan Sin, and Frank Hui Studios: Edko Films, Zhejiang Hengdian Film, and XYZ Films Distributor: Lionsgate Premiere / Lionsgate Films Rating: R for strong bloody violence and language Summary: When his daughter Rainy is kidnapped, humble tradesman Wang Wei is dragged into a violent criminal underworld where corruption, trafficking, and blood-soaked revenge collide. His only real ally is Navin, a journalist whose own family tragedy connects him to the same criminal network. Together, they fight through waves of gangsters, assassins, and human wrecking balls in a brutal martial arts rescue mission that is light on subtlety and very, very heavy on kicks. Main Cast: Xie Miao as Wang Wei Joe Taslim as Navin Yang Enyou as Rainy Jeeja Yanin as Matia Brian Le as Ho / HD Yayan Ruhian as Tak Joey Iwanaga as Pak Lung Production Notes: The Furious is directed by Kenji Tanigaki, a veteran stunt coordinator and action filmmaker, and the movie's biggest selling point is exactly what you would expect from that background: relentless, bone-crunching fight choreography. The film premiered internationally before its 2026 U.S. theatrical release, with coverage positioning it as a Hong Kong action throwback built around practical stunt work, violent hand-to-hand combat, and the kind of crowd-pleasing martial arts insanity that has drawn comparisons to The Raid and other modern action benchmarks. The film is commonly listed as a 2025 Hong Kong production because of its festival premiere, but its U.S. theatrical release is June 12, 2026. Lionsgate handled the U.S. release, and Movie Insider lists the film as a nationwide theatrical release with an R rating for strong bloody violence and language. He concludes Cat leaked the transfer and hired Addison to burn down Silvermane’s mansion. Ben breaks into Silvermane’s vault to pay Vera to leave town before she exposes Cat. Marko briefly considers escaping with Cat, but abandons the idea due to his symptoms worsening further. Ben later confronts Cat at Penn Station as she tries to flee, but Winston captures them. After tracing marked payments from Silvermane, Ben frames Winston by using his money to pay Vera. Silvermane shoots and kills Winston. Finish Him… Frenchie is Cooked! This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl test their might with Mortal Kombat II, check in on the latest round of Homelander-induced misery in The Boys Season 5 Episode 7, suffer through The Punisher: One Last Kill, run the floor with the first four episodes of Running Point Season 2, and close things out with a good old-fashioned Odyssey bitch fest. You know, culture. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The Odyssey Bitch Fest: 4:47 Running Point Season 2 Episodes 1-4: 10:48 The Punisher: One Last Kill: 20:45 The Boys Season 5 Episode 7: 33:00 Mortal Kombat II: 43:05 The Odyssey Bitch Fest Brian and Darryl close out the week with an Odyssey rant, because apparently ancient Greek epics, modern adaptations, translation discourse, and Hollywood hype cycles were not already exhausting enough. Somewhere, Homer is either proud, confused, or asking why everyone on the internet suddenly thinks they are a classics scholar with a Letterboxd account. Running Point: Season 2, Episodes 1-4 Series: Running Point Season: 2 Episodes covered: Episodes 1-4 Release date: April 23, 2026 Season 2, Episode 1 Title: New Coach Who Dis Air date: April 23, 2026 Director: David Stassen Writers: Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen Summary: Cam is back, which means Isla immediately has to deal with family politics, front office nonsense, and the ongoing question of who actually gets to control the Waves. With the team needing a new coach, Cam pushes his preferred pick while Isla tries to make the smarter basketball decision instead of the loudest nepo-baby decision. Season 2, Episode 2 Title: The Poacher Air date: April 23, 2026 Director: Erica Oyama Writer: Joe Mande Summary: Trade rumors around Dyson heat up, forcing Isla to fight for one of the team's most important players while Sandy uncovers a financial issue tied to Cam. Ali, tired of being treated like office furniture with a calendar invite, makes a major career move that threatens to shake up both the Waves and Isla's support system. Season 2, Episode 3 Title: Triangle of Badness Air date: April 23, 2026 Director: David Stassen Writer: David Phillips Summary: Ali's move to Canada creates a widening rift between her and Isla, because nothing says “healthy friendship” like professional resentment and international workplace drama. Meanwhile, the tension between Dyson and Travis keeps escalating, and Sandy tries to survive Charlie's new reality TV lifestyle without completely losing his mind. Season 2, Episode 4 Title: MVP: Marcus Very Pissed Air date: April 23, 2026 Director: Michael Weaver Writers: Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen Summary: The tension between Norm and Marcus starts turning into a full-blown problem, forcing Isla into damage-control mode. Sandy finally hits his breaking point with Charlie's reality show circus, while Ali begins questioning whether her big move was actually empowering or just a different flavor of chaos with better scenery. Rating out of 10 Those Canadians are the Nicest Cut Throats Ever Brian: 7.6/10 Darryl: 7.5/10 The Punisher: One Last Kill Title: The Punisher: One Last Kill Release date: May 12, 2026 Director: Reinaldo Marcus Green Writers: Jon Bernthal and Reinaldo Marcus Green Summary: Frank Castle is living off the grid, haunted by the ghosts of his past, and trying to exist without being the Punisher. Naturally, peace lasts about twelve seconds before Ma Gnucci and the Gnucci Crime Family drag him back into the kind of blood-soaked revenge spiral Marvel insists is “grounded” because nobody shoots laser beams. The special attempts to bridge Frank's story between Daredevil: Born Again and his next MCU appearance, but for Brian and Darryl, this one lands less like a brutal character study and more like Marvel trying to convince everyone that misery equals depth. Frank deserves better. So do we. Rating out of 10 Disney Just Doesn’t Get It Brian: 1/10 Darryl: 4/10 The Boys: Season 5, Episode 7 Title: The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk Air date: May 13, 2026 Director: Sylvain White Writer: Anslem Richardson Summary: Homelander, now juiced up with V1, fully tips into god-king nightmare mode by killing the President, dissolving the Seven, and preparing to reveal himself as America's favorite fascist deity. Soldier Boy tries to walk away, which goes about as well as you would expect when your son is Homelander and your family dynamic is basically a war crime with abs. Meanwhile, the Boys try to recreate Soldier Boy's depowering ability through Kimiko, Marie Moreau and Jordan Li uncover suspicious activity around Oh Father at Vought Studios, and the episode ends with Frenchie making one last move to protect Kimiko before Homelander fatally wounds him. So, you know, just another relaxing week in the Vought Cinematic Trauma Dump. Rating out of 5 A God Complex is a Terrible Thing to Waste Brian: 1.5/5 Darryl: 1.5/5 Mortal Kombat II Title: Mortal Kombat II Release date: May 8, 2026 Director: Simon McQuoid Writer: Jeremy Slater Rating: 7.99/10 Summary: Johnny Cage enters the arena as Earthrealm's fighters are pulled into the full-blown tournament chaos fans have been waiting for since the 2021 reboot. With Shao Kahn threatening the survival of Earthrealm and Kitana entering the mix, Mortal Kombat II leans into the franchise's blood-soaked mythology, fan-service mayhem, and video game ridiculousness in all the ways a movie like this absolutely should. It is loud, dumb, violent, and somehow still better calibrated than half the superhero stuff clogging the pipeline. Ralph and Piggy try to build order, rules, and rescue plans, while Jack's need for power and violence slowly turns the group into rival camps. The series tracks the collapse through four character-focused episodes: Piggy brings the boys together, Jack embraces the hunt, Simon becomes the tragic victim of the island's growing hysteria, and Ralph watches the last pieces of civilization burn down around him. By the end, Piggy and Simon are dead, Ralph is hunted, and rescue arrives only after the boys have already proven that the real monster was never hiding in the jungle. Meanwhile, Maul reaches out to Devon through their Force connection, drawing her and the rest of the group into a desperate alliance. Lawson suggests a dangerous underground route out of the city, but the escape turns into a nightmare when the group has to cross a toxic river while the Inquisitors close in. Title: Chapter 10: The Dark Lord Air date: May 4, 2026 Director: Nathaniel Villanueva Writer: Matt Michnovetz & Brad Rau Summary: The season finale throws Maul, Devon, Daki, the Lawsons, and the rest of the survivors straight into Vader's shadow. Maul and the Jedi fight Vader and the Inquisitors while the others try to reach Dryden Vos's ship through a wall of Imperial troops. Daki gets a brief victory over Marrok, but Vader kills him after Maul chooses self-preservation over loyalty. Devon's grief and rage push her closer to Maul, who promises to train her for revenge. Lawson sacrifices himself so Rylee, Two-Boots, and Vario can escape, and by the time Vos's ship leaves Janix, Devon agrees to become Maul's apprentice. Good news: they escaped. Kong battles Titan X while Cate escapes Isabel's base and Keiko rescues her. Tim and May try to shut down the neural implants, but the real fix comes from returning Titan X's egg, which pacifies the creature and ends the fight. Titan X returns to Axis Mundi with the egg, Shaw and Keiko get a brief emotional vision of younger Shaw, and six weeks later Monarch officially recruits Cate, Keiko, May, and Tim. Dex stops AVTF officers from killing Matt, then takes a shot at Fisk, causing chaos inside the courthouse. Outside, Daredevil's supporters rise up after BB Urich pushes the city to fight back. Fisk is offered exile to avoid charges, but because he is Wilson Fisk and subtlety has never once entered the chat, he lashes out and kills multiple protestors before Matt convinces him to take the deal. Fisk leaves New York, the AVTF collapses, BB lands at the New York Bulletin, Jessica reunites with Luke Cage, Heather Glenn starts sliding into Muse territory, and Matt ends the season arrested and imprisoned for being Daredevil. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, Episode 8 Title: Chapter 8: The Creeping Fear Air date: April 27, 2026 Director: Saul Ruiz Writer: Jennifer Corbett Summary: With Maul separated from his crew and physically breaking down, the episode digs into his past through hallucinations of Sidious, Savage Opress, and the trauma that shaped him into the walking red flag he is today. Sul sacrifices herself to stop Blake, and Maul's surviving crew regroups just in time for a message from Dryden Vos, because apparently the galaxy's criminal LinkedIn is still very active. Meanwhile, Tim, Shaw, Keiko, May, and Monarch forces follow Titan X onto the island, Shaw and Keiko get separated, Cate escapes, and Kentaro drops the emotional trap card by claiming they can save Hiroshi. In the 1958 storyline, Keiko and Bill marry, while Bill's later obsession with rifts shows how this family has been getting emotionally nuked by monster science for decades. The emotional gut punch lands with Daniel Blake, who nearly gives BB Urich up to Cashman before finding his spine at the worst possible time. Back at Vought, Sage warns Ashley that Homelander can't get V1, Noir spirals through theater-kid identity crisis hell, The Deep does Deep things, and Firecracker finally starts doubting Homelander, which goes about as well as expected. Five shows, one galaxy of trauma This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl dive into Maul: Shadow Lord Episodes 3 and 4, break down Invincible Season 4 Episode 7, review Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Episode 7, check in on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 5, and survive The Boys Season 5 Episode 3. It's a packed week of monsters, mayhem, revenge, and people making extremely bad choices with tremendous confidence. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Maul Shadow Lord: Monarch: Daredevil: The Boys: Invincible: Maul: Shadow Lord (Disney+) Maul: Shadow Lord, Episode 3 Title: Chapter 3: Whispers in the Unknown Air date: April 13, 2026 Director: Steward Lee Writer: Julia Cooperman Summary: Devon escapes captivity only to be pulled back into Maul's orbit, where he toys with her psychologically as much as physically. While Lawson tries to juggle the Maul crisis with his failing home life, Maul escalates his war with the Pykes by hitting one of their shipments and tightening his grip on Janix. The episode leans hard into dread, temptation, and Maul's creepy mentor energy. Maul: Shadow Lord, Episode 4 Title: Chapter 4: Pride and Vengeance Air date: April 13, 2026 Director: Nathaniel Villanueva Writer: Amanda Rose Muñoz Summary: Maul makes his move against Marg Krim and forces the Pyke Syndicate into line, while Devon reunites with Daki and tries to help Lawson mount a real resistance. Basically: everybody makes one bad decision after another, and then an Imperial Star Destroyer shows up to make it everyone's problem. Cate and Keiko uncover an ancient connection to Titan X, while Kentaro gets a dangerous new offer tied to Apex's larger ambitions. The episode mixes emotional sci-fi melancholy with MonsterVerse myth-building, which is a fancy way of saying it gets sad, strange, and ominous in exactly the way this show likes. Rating out of 5 Way To Almost Erase Yourself Shaw Brian: 4.11/5 Darryl: 3.61/5 Daredevil: Born Again (Dsiney+) Daredevil: Born Again, Season 2, Episode 5 Title: The Grand Design Air date: April 14, 2026 Director: Angela Barnes Writer: Jesse Wigutow Summary: Matt's war against Fisk keeps tightening as the season hits its midpoint and starts showing more of the machinery behind Fisk's grip on New York. The title alone tells you this is an episode about schemes, structure, and people realizing they're standing inside someone else's plan. Midseason episodes like this are where the screws get turned, and this one sounds built to do exactly that. The Supe-killing virus, V1, and Vought's ugly origins all start crashing into one another while betrayals, deaths, and deeply unhealthy father-son dynamics pile up. So, you know, a normal Wednesday for this disgusting little masterpiece. In the present, Mark, Nolan, Oliver, Allen, Battle Beast, Space Racer, and the Coalition take the fight to Viltrum, only to walk into a vicious ambush. Oliver gets horribly wrecked, Thaedus pays dearly, and the episode turns into one long slab of galactic violence and despair. Cheerful stuff. Dune vs. Doomsday This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl dig into the Dune vs. Doomsday box office standoff, review Monarch Season 2 Episode 5, Invincible Season 4 Episode 5, and break down the first three episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 WB vs. Disney (Dune x Avengers): 5:04 Monarch: 14:37 Invincible: 26:33 Daredevil Born Again: 36:37 Dunesday 2026 For the movie-date standoff, the official release date for both Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday is still December 18, 2026. Warner's Dune: Part Three is positioned for IMAX, while Marvel's own official page still lists Avengers: Doomsday on December 18 as well. There is current reporting that Marvel may be considering a move, but that appears to be rumor/reporting territory, not official confirmation yet. Based on the IMAX angle alone, my best bet is Marvel/Disney moves first, not WB. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV) Season 2, Episode 5 Title: Furusato Air date: March 27, 2026 Director: Jeff F. What starts as a survival mystery turns into a science-heavy, emotionally warm space adventure built around problem-solving, sacrifice, and an unexpected interstellar friendship. Main Cast: Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt James Ortiz as Rocky Lionel Boyce as Carl Milana Vayntrub as Olesya Ilyukhina Ken Leung as Yao Priya Kansara as Mary Bastian Antonio Fuentes as Parker Production Notes: The film was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and adapted by Drew Goddard, who also wrote The Martian, giving this one a similar mix of hard-science problem solving, humor, and crowd-pleasing momentum. Production shot in the United Kingdom, with principal photography running from June through October 2024, centered at Shepperton Studios. The movie's cinematography was handled by Greig Fraser, with editing by Chris Dickens and Joel Negron, and music by Daniel Pemberton. One of the big talking points around the movie is how heavily it leans on practical filmmaking. Lord and Miller said the production avoided green screens on set, relying instead on built environments, controlled lighting, puppetry, and VFX enhancement later. Rocky was brought to life through a combination of puppetry, animatronics, and digital effects, with James Ortiz both performing and voicing the character. The approach clearly connected with audiences. The film opened to about $80.6 million domestic and roughly $141 million worldwide, making it Amazon MGM's biggest opening and the biggest opening weekend of 2026 so far. It was also produced at blockbuster scale, with reporting placing the budget around $200 million net. At the same time, Cate goes against orders to try to save Shaw, and that rescue effort helps unleash a dangerous new Titan. Broadly, the episode works as a reset button for the season: it reconnects the fractured cast, throws everyone back into crisis mode, and pushes the story deeper into Skull Island and the larger Titan threat. Episode 2: Resonance Summary The second episode splits its tension between two fronts. Lee and Keiko investigate a secretive village tied to a cult-like devotion to a mysterious sea creature, while Cate runs into a deadly stowaway situation on the Monarch side of the story. Reviews and synopses describe the episode as expanding the threat beyond Skull Island, with a rogue Titan moving toward busy shipping lanes, so it feels less like setup and more like the season starting to flex its monster-muscle a bit. Season Endings and Real-World Goodbyes This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl break down the Season 1 finale of HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, reflect on the season as a whole, and celebrate the life and career of actor Robert Carradine. Did the finale land the joust, or did it pull up short at the lists? And where does this first season rank among HBO's growing Westerosi saga? Plus, we say goodbye to a certified nerd icon. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 News Bites – Robert Carradine: 5:30 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – Season 1 Finale Review: 13:47 Season 1 Retrospective: 40:12 Final Thoughts: 46:52 News Bites Robert Carradine (1954–2026) Robert Carradine, best known for his role as Lewis Skolnick in Revenge of the Nerds, has passed away. Carradine was part of the legendary Carradine acting family, son of John Carradine and brother to David and Keith Carradine. While he built a long résumé in film and television, he became a generational touchstone for playing the underdog genius in the 1984 cult classic Revenge of the Nerds and its sequels. Beyond that franchise, Carradine appeared in projects such as The Long Riders, Lizzie McGuire, King of the Nerds, and numerous television roles across decades. He embodied a very specific cinematic archetype: the smart outsider who eventually wins. For an entire era of fandom, he helped make “nerd” aspirational. We tip the pocket protector in respect. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – Season 1 Finale Episode Title: ‘The Morrow’ Director: Sarah Adina Smith Writer: Ira Parker & Ti Mikkel Network: HBO The Season 1 finale brings Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg's first major Westerosi chapter to a close. Lyonel invites Dunk to move to Storm’s End, but Dunk believes that he brings only bad luck. Baelor’s body is cremated at his funeral. Dunk finds Valarr, who questions why his father died, but Dunk was left alive. Raymun reveals he has married the prostitute Rowan, alias Red. Maekar informs Dunk that Aerion will spend time in the Free Cities to atone. He laments that Baelor would have been a good king and invites Dunk to Summerhall, where Egg can be his squire; Dunk declines, which Egg overhears. In a flashback, Dunk asks Arlan why he was never knighted. Arlan retorts that a true knight always finishes a story. In the present, Daeron tells Dunk to mentor Egg to prevent him from becoming like Aerion. Egg discovers that his hair is regrowing. He takes a knife to Aerion’s bedroom, but Maekar calms him down. Dunk asks Maekar if Egg can squire for him on the road, but Maekar refuses. Raymun buys Sweetfoot back for Dunk, who then gifts her to Raymun. As Dunk leaves Ashford, Egg arrives, and they depart together. Egg suggests that they travel to Dorne. An angry Maekar later realizes that Egg is gone. Key themes explored: – Honor vs. ambition – The weight of legacy – The quiet tension of noble politics – The personal cost of knighthood – Nature vs. Nurture The episode leans more on moral consequence than explosive set pieces, reinforcing the show's identity as a smaller-scale, character-first entry in the Game of Thrones universe. Brian & Darryl Discuss: – Did the finale feel satisfying or intentionally restrained? – Was the pacing consistent with the season's slower, novelistic approach? – Standout performances – Production design and tonal consistency – How does this set up future seasons Rating out of 5 When the Laughing Storm Offers You War, You Say Yes Brian: 4.88/5 Darryl: 4.6/5 Season 1 Retrospective Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms carved out its own lane in Westeros by shrinking the scope and focusing on intimacy over spectacle. Robert Duvall Passed Away at 95, and it Seems too Soon This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl honor the legendary Robert Duvall, break down the latest Warner Bros. Discovery and Skydance merger talks, and review the penultimate episode of HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Corporate power plays and Westerosi lances collide. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Robert Duvall: 3:51 Warner Bros/Skydance: 9:07 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: 23:43 Robert Duvall January 5, 1931 – February 15, 2026 Robert Duvall was one of the defining American actors of the modern era. A founding member of the American Film Theatre movement and a classmate of Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman at the Neighborhood Playhouse, Duvall built a career on discipline, restraint, and volcanic presence. Career Highlights: Tom Hagen in The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather Part II (1974) – The calm consigliere in a world of chaos. Controlled, intellectual menace. Lt. Colonel Bill Kilgore in Apocalypse Now (1979) – “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.” One of cinema's most iconic performances. Oscar Winner for Tender Mercies (1983) – Best Actor for his deeply human portrayal of a broken country singer. The Great Santini (1979) – A towering, volatile performance that earned him an Academy Award nomination. Lonesome Dove (1989) – Cemented his legacy in the Western genre. Later career standouts: The Apostle (which he also wrote and directed), Open Range, The Judge. Duvall's strength was subtle authority. He never chased flash. He built characters from the inside out. In an industry obsessed with volume, he mastered quiet. Hollywood didn't just lose a legend. It lost a craftsman. https://variety.com/2026/film/news/paramount-skydance-response-warner-bros-discovery-deal-talks-1236665757/ Warner Bros./Skydance Will They/Won’t They Warner Bros. Discovery has reportedly reopened acquisition discussions with Skydance and Paramount, injecting fresh volatility into an already chaotic media landscape. Paramount previously floated a $30 per share offer, potentially rising to $31. Meanwhile, shareholder votes and competing interests continue to complicate the picture. This is consolidation round… what, 47? The real question is what this means for IP control, franchise strategy, and the long-term survival of mid-budget filmmaking. Every merger promises “synergy.” Historically, synergy often translates to layoffs, canceled projects, and fewer creative risks. We break down what this could mean for DC Studios, HBO prestige content, and the streaming wars at large. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO Max) Season 1, Episode 5 (Penultimate Episode) Episode Title: “In the Name of the Mother” Directed by: Owen Harris Written by: Hiram Martinez & Ti Mikkel and Ira Parker Summary: The trial of seven begins. In the first charge, Aerion knocks Dunk off his horse. In a series of flashbacks to Dunk’s childhood, he and his friend Rafe scavenge from a battlefield. They return to Flea Bottom in King’s Landing and pickpocket from Alester, a City Watchman. Dunk and Rafe attempt to buy passage to the Free Cities in Essos, but cannot afford it. Alester corners them and takes their money. Rafe steals Alester’s dagger, but he notices and slits her throat. Arlan emerges from a tavern and kills Alester, saving Dunk, who then follows Arlan on his travels. In the present, Dunk duels Aerion on foot until both men collapse from injury. After Dunk falls unconscious, Aerion declares him dead. Egg begs Dunk to get up, and the crowd chants for Dunk as he stands. Dunk and Aerion resume their duel until Dunk gets the upper hand. Aerion yields and withdraws his accusation. In the aftermath, Beesbury and Hardyng are confirmed as killed. Dunk pledges fealty to Baelor. Raymun and Pate help Baelor remove his helmet, which Maekar struck with his mace during the trial, revealing a fatal wound. Baelor collapses from his injury and dies in Dunk’s arms. The jousting sequences are shot with brutal realism. Armor feels heavy. Impacts feel dangerous. The episode underscores a central thesis of Martin's work: nobility is aspirational, not guaranteed. Key Cast: Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen Production Notes: The series distinguishes itself from House of the Dragon by focusing on intimate political storytelling rather than large-scale spectacle. The penultimate episode prioritizes character psychology, legacy, and the myth of knighthood over spectacle-driven chaos. Trials by Seven, Auditions by Fire This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review the latest two episodes of HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (Season 1, Episodes 3 and 4), plus the full first season of Marvel Television's Wonder Man on Disney+. RIP James Van Der Beek. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 RIP James Van Der Beek: 03:35 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (E3): 10:36 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (E4): 20:44 Wonder Man (Season 1): 42:00 In Memoriam: James Van Der Beek (1977–2026) James Van Der Beek, the actor who became a defining face of late-1990s television as Dawson Leery on Dawson's Creek, has died at age 48 after a short battle with an aggressive colorectal cancer. He passed peacefully on February 11, 2026, with his wife, Kimberly, and their six children by his side. Van Der Beek's breakout role on Dawson's Creek helped shape a generation of teen storytelling on television, and the show's honest exploration of adolescence made him a familiar presence to millions of viewers. After the series ran from 1998 to 2003, he continued working across television and film in a wide range of roles, from the high school football drama Varsity Blues to camera-savvy self-parody on Don't Trust the B–– in Apartment 23 and crime procedurals like CSI: Cyber. His candid sharing of his cancer journey in recent years also raised awareness of early-onset colorectal cancer. Friends, fans, and colleagues paid tribute to his warmth, humor, and impact both on and off screen. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and their six children, whose privacy the family has asked the public to respect during this time of mourning. We celebrate James's work, his openness, and the joy his performances brought to so many. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO) S1E3: “The Squire” (Released Feb 1, 2026) Summary: Egg pushes to become Dunk's real squire while the Ashford tourney turns uglier. Aerion's cruelty escalates both on and off the lists, and Dunk's sense of “knightly justice” finally boils over, forcing Egg to reveal exactly who he is. Main cast (key players in the series): Peter Claffey (Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall), Dexter Sol Ansell (Aegon “Egg” Targaryen), Finn Bennett (Prince Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen), Daniel Ings (Ser Lyonel Baratheon), Bertie Carvel (Prince Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen), Sam Spruell (Prince Maekar Targaryen), Tanzyn Crawford (Tanselle). Production notes: Directed by Sarah Adina Smith. Written by Hiram Martinez, Annie Julia Wyman, and Ira Parker. Series created by Ira Parker and George R. R. Martin, and adapts the “Dunk and Egg” novellas beginning with The Hedge Knight. Rating Out of 5 The Kingdom’s Most Dangerous Puppet Show Brian: 4.12/5 Darryl: 4.2/5 S1E4: “Seven” (Released Feb 6, 2026) Summary: With Dunk imprisoned and Egg's identity detonating into the open, the consequence is pure Westeros: a trial by combat, except Aerion demands the rarer “trial by seven.” Dunk must assemble champions fast, loyalty gets stress-tested, and the episode ends with a big, crowd-facing choice that turns the whole situation into a franchise-sized moment. Main cast (key players in the series): Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Sam Spruell, Daniel Ings, Henry Ashton (Prince Daeron Targaryen), Edward Ashley (Ser Steffon Fossoway), Youssef Kerkour (Steely Pate). Production notes: Directed by Sarah Adina Smith. Written by Aziza Barnes, Annie Julia Wyman, and Ira Parker. The season premiered Jan 18, 2026, on HBO and is planned as a six-episode season adapting The Hedge Knight. Rating Out of 5 Seven Knights for Seven Gods Brian: 4.57/5 Darryl: 4.571/5 Wonder Man (Disney+) Premise (season-level): In the MCU's version of Hollywood, the “Doorman Clause” bans superpowered people from working in entertainment. Struggling actor Simon Williams, who secretly has powers, teams up with Trevor Slattery as they chase roles in a remake of an in-universe Wonder Man movie. Episode titles and summaries: 1. “Matinee” – Simon's career day goes sideways fast, but meeting Trevor leads him straight toward the Wonder Man remake orbit, plus attention from Damage Control. 2. “Self-Tape” – Trevor's deal with the DODC tightens while Simon's attempt at a simple audition spirals, and his powers flare under pressure. 3. “Pacoima” – Trevor goes undercover at Simon's family gathering, and Simon's anger cracks the mask he has been wearing. 4. “Doorman” – The origin story of DeMarr Davis and the incident that turns a weird power into a headline, with consequences for superpowered performers. 5. “Found Footage” – (Add your recap notes here) 6. “Callback” – (Add your recap notes here) 7. “Kathy Friedman” – A spotlight moment turns into a pressure test for Simon and Trevor when the story around them starts to become the story. 8. “Yucca Valley” – Trevor makes a choice that reframes everything, the DODC plays its hand, and Simon makes his own counter-move in the finale. Main cast: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Simon Williams), Ben Kingsley (Trevor Slattery), X Mayo (Janelle Jackson), Zlatko Burić (Von Kovak), Arian Moayed (P. Cleary), Joe Pantoliano (as himself), Byron Bowers (DeMarr Davis / Doorman), Josh Gad (as himself). Production notes: Created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, with Guest as showrunner. Filming began in Los Angeles in April 2023, paused during the 2023 WGA strike, then resumed and wrapped in 2024. Cretton directed the first two episodes, James Ponsoldt directed episodes 3 and 4, Tiffany Johnson directed episodes 5 and 6, and Stella Meghie directed episodes 7 and 8. The Bald Prince and His Tall Knight Make Perfect Travel Companions This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are talking about the new GOT spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. And Wonderman Episode 1. All this and… some Brandon Sanderson news. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Sanderson: 8:45 Wonderman: 19:00 Dunk & Egg: 35:07 Brandon Sanderson's Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere' Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/brandon-sandersons-mistborn-stormlight-archive-movie-tv-1236487271/ Wonderman (Disney+) Episode 1 – “Matinee” (Premiere) Episode 1 introduces us to Simon Williams (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a struggling actor and stuntman whose career is in a tailspin. After being fired from a TV role and dumped by his girlfriend, Simon is at a crossroads. When he runs into Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), a fellow actor with an eccentric reputation, he learns Slattery is auditioning for a remake of the classic superhero film Wonder Man — a movie Simon loved as a kid and which inspired him to pursue acting in the first place. Simon pushes for a shot at the role, but his agent refuses. Undeterred, he somehow lands an audition alongside Slattery anyway. Slattery gives him advice that helps him make an impression. Meanwhile, Department of Damage Control agent P. Cleary secretly contacts Slattery with instructions to watch Simon closely because he might have actual superpowers, tying Simon's acting ambitions to real-world MCU stakes. This episode sets up two parallel arcs: Simon's Hollywood hustle and dream of stardom, and the hint that he may be more than just an actor, potentially linking him to actual superhero abilities and the broader Marvel universe. Tone-wise, Episode 1 blends industry satire, comedy, and superhero setup, spotlighting the absurdities of Hollywood while weaving in classic MCU connective tissue. Ratings: Out of 5 Here’s a Note For You… Get Out Darryl: 3.75/5 Brian: 3.8/5 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO Max) Episode 1 – “The Hedge Knight” This premiere introduces Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Egg (the boy who becomes his squire), setting up the tone and stakes for the series. It takes place about 100 years before Game of Thrones and focuses on a smaller-scale story full of character and humor rather than sweeping war and politics. Here's what happens: Dunk buries his mentor, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and takes his sword, shield, and three horses as he heads toward the Ashford tourney, hoping to make his name and find work. At an inn, he meets a young bald boy who asks to be his squire. After initially refusing, Dunk ultimately accepts him and names the boy Egg. At Ashford, Dunk tries to enter the tournament but learns he needs someone reputable to vouch for him. He seeks out knights who knew Ser Arlan, but nobody will put their name on the line for a wandering hedge knight. Along the way we see the rough, earthy humor and grounded Westerosi world the show is leaning into (including some decidedly human moments missing from prior franchise entries). By the end, Dunk officially becomes Ser Duncan the Tall, and he and Egg share a moment under the stars, signaling the start of their journey together. Tone note: it's lighter and more character-focused than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, blending heartfelt moments with gritty, grounded humor. Episode 2 – “Hard Salt Beef” In the second episode, Dunk's quest to enter the Ashford tourney continues and the story expands slightly into the world's wider politics and personality. Key beats: Dunk spends much of the episode telling other knights about his mentor Ser Arlan, trying to get someone to vouch for him so he can compete, but keeps getting brushed off. Egg helps by pointing out the unfairness of Dunk needing permission when he's already a knight, showing how their dynamic is evolving. Members of House Targaryen arrive at the tourney — princes including Baelor, Maekar, and Aerion — and their presence adds weight to the event. Dunk overhears a conversation about missing Targaryen children and uses the moment (and a bit of boldness) to appeal directly to Prince Baelor to vouch for him. Baelor does remember Ser Arlan and, while not lavish in praise, quietly ensures Dunk's name is added to the tournament list. Dunk and Egg also start to settle more into the tourney rhythm — from watching performances to joining in games — as Dunk grapples with what legacy and honor really mean in this world. This episode deepens the relationship between Dunk and Egg, introduces more of Westeros's nobility (in a relatively casual, grounded way), and frames Dunk's struggles not just to fight but to matter. Quick Character & World Context Dunk and Egg are adapted from the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas by George R.R. Martin. The series is intentionally smaller in scale, focusing on relationships and the everyday lives of knights and squires rather than epic political wars or dragons. TV and Movie Reviews to Listen to Around the Yule Log This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl talk about a couple movies the saw this week in individual mini-reviews (Avatar: Fire & Ash and The Housemaid). Then breakdown season 2 episode 1 of Fallout. Then give a review of HIM. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Avatar: Fire and Ash: 12:35 The Housemaid: 25:05 Fallout: 34:18 HIM: 49:41 Avatar: FIre and Ash (2025) Rating Out 10 It’s the Third Movie and It’s Fine… it’s Fine Darryl: 6.2/10 Summary Avatar: Fire and Ash expands the world of Pandora by pushing the story into darker, more volatile territory. This chapter introduces a new Na'vi culture shaped not by water or forest, but by fire, ash, and survival in a brutal volcanic region of the moon. These clans challenge everything Jake Sully and Neytiri believe about what it means to live in balance with Pandora. As tensions rise between Na'vi factions and the ever-encroaching human presence, the film shifts from a clear-cut nature-vs-invaders narrative into something far more morally complex. Fire and Ash explores how trauma, rage, and vengeance can fracture even the most deeply spiritual societies, forcing characters to confront uncomfortable truths about leadership, legacy, and the cost of endless war. Visually, the film leans hard into contrast. Lush blues and greens give way to scorched landscapes, molten rock, and smoke-filled skies, creating a harsher, angrier version of Pandora that mirrors the emotional state of its characters. At its core, Fire and Ash is about consequence. Not just for humanity's actions, but for the choices the Na'vi themselves make when survival demands brutality. This entry reframes the Avatar saga as less of a mythic adventure and more of a generational reckoning, setting the stage for a future where Pandora's greatest threat may no longer come from the stars, but from within. The Housemaid (2025) Rating Out of 10 The Dad Who Rocks the Cradle Brian: 6.5/10 Summary The Housemaid is a 2025 American psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig, adapted from Freida McFadden's bestselling 2022 novel. It stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, a troubled young woman recently released on probation who desperately needs steady work. When she lands a live-in housemaid job with the wealthy Winchester family on Long Island, things initially seem like a fresh start. But behind the manicured lawns and spacious rooms, the Winchesters' life is anything but perfect. Millie soon discovers that Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried) is temperamental and volatile, her daughter Cecilia is cold and disrespectful, and unsettling secrets lurk beneath the surface of this elite household. As Millie becomes more entangled in their lives, the film steadily shifts from domestic drama to a gripping, twist-heavy thriller where trust is scarce and danger hides in plain sight. The tension escalates when Millie realizes that the family dynamics are far darker than she suspected, leading to shocking betrayals and a violent confrontation that upends everything the audience thought they knew. The Housemaid blends suspense, psychological games, and interpersonal manipulation in a holiday season release that delivers both unpredictable twists and intense character play. Fallout (Amazon Prime) Season 2 Episode 1 Title: The Innovator Directed by: Frederick E. O. Toye Written by: Geneva Robertson-Dworet & Graham Wagner Date Aired: December 16, 2025 Summary In 2077, before the war, a man supportive of Robert House, CEO of RobCo Industries, implants a control chip in a bar patron, forcing him to murder his companions before the chip detonates. After uncovering Vault-Tec’s secret plans, actor Cooper Howard attempts to flee with his daughter Janey, but Lee Moldaver convinces him to stay and spy on his wife Barb, who is traveling to Las Vegas to meet House. In 2296, Lucy MacLean and the Ghoul kill a group of Great Khans while tracking Lucy’s father, Hank, which leads them to the abandoned Vault 24, where they discover a Vault-Tec experiment using chips for brainwashing; a man with a chip implanted briefly speaks to Lucy before the chip explodes. Trapped in Vault 31, Norm, without food or water, awakens cryogenically preserved Vault-Tec executives. In Vault 32, Overseer Steph struggles with leadership, while in Vault 33, Overseer Betty supervises repairs to the water chip. Meanwhile, Hank arrives at an abandoned Vault-tec facility and leaves a message for an unknown figure that he will finish his project. Rating Out of 5 Exploding Heads for Everyone Darryl: 3.35/5 Brian: 3.2/5 HIM (2025) Summary HIM is a psychological horror film that uses the world of elite sports to explore obsession, identity, and the dangerous cost of chasing greatness. The story follows a promising young football player whose talent earns him access to a rare and secretive mentorship under a legendary athlete. What begins as an opportunity of a lifetime slowly reveals itself to be something far more disturbing. As the mentorship deepens, the film peels back the glossy surface of fame and success, exposing a culture that treats athletes as assets rather than people. Training pushes beyond discipline into control, blurring the line between motivation and manipulation. The closer the protagonist gets to his dream, the more he begins to lose his sense of self. Rather than relying on jump scares, HIM builds dread through atmosphere and psychological pressure. The horror comes from systems, power dynamics, and the unspoken expectation that personal sacrifice is the price of excellence. The film questions how far someone is willing to go to be “chosen” and what parts of themselves they are expected to surrender along the way. At its core, HIM is a cautionary tale about hero worship and the myth of meritocracy, wrapped in a slow-burn horror framework. It leaves the audience unsettled not by monsters, but by the realization that the most terrifying forces are often the ones we willingly submit to in the pursuit of success. 10 Years and 500 Peaks and Valleys of Pop Culture This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl celebrate the Infamous Podcast’s most Infamous Milestone yet… 500 Episodes. Here, they will discuss how the pop culture landscape has changed since July 2015. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Nostalgia: 5:00 The Rise and Fall of Pop Culture Five hundred episodes in, Brian and Darryl have seen some things. Chief among them: the slow realization that Hollywood learned absolutely the wrong lessons from its biggest successes. Take Marvel. Once upon a time, this was the gold standard. The MCU built toward Avengers: Endgame like it mattered, because it did. When nostalgia showed up, it was earned. Even the contentious stuff, like Captain Marvel or the very “look around, ladies” A-Force moment, happened inside a franchise people still trusted. Then the Disney+ floodgates opened. Too many shows, too little focus, and suddenly big ideas like Doomsday didn't feel epic. They felt panicked. The machine kept pumping content, but the soul quietly clocked out. Spider-Man: No Way Home briefly reminded everyone how this is supposed to work. Nostalgia wasn't the point. Story was. Seeing multiple Spider-Men together actually meant something, and for a minute, Marvel felt dangerous again. Then everyone immediately tried to copy the trick without understanding why it worked. Star Wars didn't even get that far. Somehow, with the original cast alive and willing, the sequel trilogy never once put Luke, Leia, and Han on screen together. Not once. It's arguably the biggest fumble in modern blockbuster history. Nostalgia wasn't used to unite fans. It was used like window dressing, leaving audiences staring at the screen thinking, “How did you miss that?” Indiana Jones followed the same road into the ditch. Instead of honoring what Indy stood for, the franchise tried to modernize the wrong things, misunderstand its own appeal, and slowly sand down the character until nothing recognizable was left. The so-called “Phoebe Waller effect” isn't about one person. It's about Hollywood confusing quippy cynicism and tonal shifts with actual evolution and then acting shocked when audiences check out. And that's the real takeaway here. Nostalgia can't save a floundering global box office. Audiences aren't idiots. They know when they're being sold a memory instead of a story. Recognition has replaced risk, and comfort IP has replaced creativity. The result is a lot of familiar logos and a shocking lack of excitement. And then there's Dexter, quietly walking into the room and embarrassing half of Hollywood. Instead of screaming “remember this?” every five minutes, Dexter did something radical. It changed the setting, brought in new characters, raised the stakes, and kept the core of the character intact. Same morally broken serial killer, new problems. No endless callbacks. No cosplay storytelling. Just character, consequence, and actual intent. Which is wild, because Dexter figured out the thing billion-dollar franchises still can't. If the only thing your revival has is memories, you don't have a revival. You have a reunion tour. Dexter wasn't trying to recreate Miami or trick audiences into nostalgia dopamine. It trusted that people missed the character, not the wallpaper. So while Marvel is throwing multiverses at the wall, Star Wars forgot to put its Trinity in the same room, Indiana Jones got power-washed into irrelevance, and DC is still arguing with itself, Dexter just showed up, changed the scenery, and reminded everyone how this is actually done. Same Dexter. New playground. No panic. No apology tour. Five hundred episodes later, Brian and Darryl aren't mad that pop culture changed. They're annoyed that it changed this lazily. Because if there's one thing a decade of podcasting proves, it's this: people don't stop loving franchises. Franchises stop loving their audiences. And yeah… we're still talking about it. It’s a Movie Review, but in a Car This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl get together to revive the Instant Reaction Review for SISU: Road to Revenge. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 SISU 2: 2:00 SISU Road to Revenge (2025) Ratings Out of 10 How Could There Possibly be Any Blood Left in His Body Because it All Pumped Out onto the Floor of the Train Darryl: 6.5/10 Brian: 6.3/10 Summary SISU: Road to Revenge brings back Finland's most unstoppable ex-commando, Aatami Korpi, diving straight into another brutal gauntlet of vengeance, grit, and sheer unbreakable willpower. After finding a fragile peace in the aftermath of his gold-fueled rampage, Korpi is dragged back into violence when a new band of opportunistic mercenaries threatens the one thing he has left worth protecting. What follows is an explosive trail of carnage across the frozen frontier: mines, traps, improvised weapons, and an old soldier's creativity pushed to mythic extremes. The film doubles down on everything that made the original a cult favorite — gnarly kills, dark humor, insane resilience, and the legend of a man too stubborn to die. SISU: Road to Revenge is a stripped-down, savage revenge ride that proves once again that SISU-ness isn't just toughness… it's a whole survival philosophy. Perfect for fans of the first film, pulpy action, and anybody who loves watching one man absolutely ruin an army's week. Cast Jorma Tommila — Aatami Korpi Stephen Lang — Igor Draganov (the Soviet officer hunting Korpi) Richard Brake — KGB Officer / Soviet antagonist Supporting / Minor Cast Einar Haraldsson — Soldier (Soviet soldier) Jaakko Hutchings — Soviet Soldier Ergo Küppas — Soviet Border Guard Anton Klink — Soviet Border Guard Creative Team & Crew Writer / Director: Jalmari Helander Producers: Petri Jokiranta, Mike Goodridge Executive Producers: Gregory Ouanhon, Antonio Salas Cinematographer (Director of Photography): Mika Orasmaa Editor: Juho Virolainen Music / Score (Composers): Juri Seppä, Tuomas Wäinölä Production Budget: $12 million Box Office*: $6.6 million worldwide Break-even*: According to one “break-even” analysis, the film needed about US $30.5 million worldwide gross to turn a profit (assuming production + marketing + distribution costs roughly 2.5× production budget). *as of recording Contact Us The Infamous Podcast can be found wherever podcasts are found on the Interwebs, feel free to subscribe and follow along on social media. Ratings Out of 10 When Did 18 days Equal 30 Days? Darryl: 6.7/10 Brian: 6.71/10 Frankenstein (Netflix Original) A haunting, beautifully constructed adaptation dripping with gothic style. Del Toro delivers a deeply emotional and visually stunning take on the classic tale — focusing on tragedy, humanity, and the monster we create by failing one another. We'll dig into the performances, the creature design, and how Del Toro balances horror, heartbreak, and hope. Subtitle This week on The Infamous Podcast, Brian and Darryl break down the Hulu original series Chad Powers, the sports comedy nobody saw coming but everyone's talking about. Also, they talk about the frantic trade deadline in the NFL. The story follows Russ Holliday (played by Glen Powell), a once-promising college quarterback whose career flames out after a humiliating mistake and public scandal. Eight years later, he reinvents himself — literally — as “Chad Powers,” donning prosthetics and a wig to walk onto a struggling small-college football team, the South Georgia Catfish. Inspired by Eli Manning's viral “Chad Powers” sketch from his ESPN+ show Eli's Places, the series combines heart, humor, and a little bit of helmet hair. The result is a surprisingly sharp commentary on fame, failure, and the lengths people go to for a second chance. Production Information Creators: Glen Powell & Michael Waldron Writers: Glen Powell, Michael Waldron Executive Producers: Glen Powell, Michael Waldron, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Adam Fasullo, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, Tony Yacenda, Luvh Rakhe Production Companies: Anomaly Pictures, Barnstorm, ESPN, Omaha Productions, 20th Television Network: Hulu Season 1 Episodes: 6 (Sept 30 – Oct 28 2025) Main Cast Glen Powell as Russ Holliday / Chad Powers Perry Mattfeld as Ricky Hudson Steve Zahn as Coach Jake Hudson Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny Wynn Everett as Tricia Hudson Toby Huss as Mike Holliday Clayne Crawford as Coach Dobbs Colton Ryan as Gerry (Bench QB) Episode Guide Episode Title Synopsis 1 1st Quarter Russ's career implodes in a championship disaster. Eight years later, he re-emerges as “Chad Powers” and walks onto the Catfish roster in disguise. 2 2nd Quarter Chad wins over the team with southern charm and awkward charisma, while juggling his fake persona and fractured confidence. 3 3rd Quarter Mid-season tensions rise as rival QBs start to question who Chad really is — and if he's too good to be true. 4 4th Quarter During an away game, Chad and Danny sneak out for some classic football mischief that could expose everything. 5 5th Quarter Chaos hits the team lakehouse as family drama and affairs collide — Coach Hudson suffers a heart attack mid-chaos. 6 6th Quarter Chad's true identity unravels; Russ faces the ultimate decision: come clean or finish what he started on the field. Themes & Tone Chad Powers sits somewhere between Tootsie and Friday Night Lights — funny, heartfelt, and just absurd enough to work. The show examines identity, redemption, and what it means to love the game even when the game doesn't love you back. Infamous Take Glen Powell leans fully into his comedic side, proving he can play both Hollywood's golden boy and a complete goofball. Steve Zahn is a perfect counterpoint as the grizzled coach trying to keep a small-time program alive. The show's mix of football authenticity and sitcom-level absurdity hits a sweet spot for fans of sports stories with heart and humor. When Did Blood Powers Get So Cool? Trick question, they were always cool. This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review the 2025 Cincinnati Comic Expo, Netflix Hypocrisy, The Hunt for Ben Solo, and Gen V season 2. Darryl: 7/10 Brian: 7.91/10 This season picks up in the wake of The Boys Season 4, so the wider universe is in upheaval. The supes (superpowered individuals) are rising in influence, and societal tensions between “humans” and “supes” are mounting. Meanwhile, at the campus of Godolkin University (the super-powered college) the tone has shifted. The new Dean, Hamish Linklater's Cipher, has taken over and is steering the institution in a more militant, ideological direction. Also important: the show addresses the real-life death of actor Chance Perdomo (who played Andre) by choosing not to recast his character and weaving that absence into the story's grief and complexity. Core Storylines Marie Moreau (played by Jaz Sinclair) returns to Godolkin asking “what now?” after all they've been through — personal trauma, power shifts, ethical compromise. Her friends (Emma, Jordan, others) are also re-entering campus life, but nothing is the same. Their old status, relationships, and sense of purpose are all shaken. The University under Cipher is transforming from a somewhat dysfunctional but familiar institution into a training ground for supes as weapons (indoctrination, “fight clubs”, hierarchy). There's a growing war-like atmosphere: humans vs. supes, internal class conflict among supes, institutional corruption and hidden programs. One big plot strain revolves around a secret “Project Odessa”-type program from the 1960s that may tie into what supes are becoming and how they're being used. Themes & Character Arcs Power and control: The season explores how supes react when they lose status or are asked to conform, and how institutions try to harness/weaponize their abilities. Identity and trauma: The aftermath of loss (Andre's death, past events) weighs heavy on Marie and the group — they're not the naïve freshman brigade anymore. Ethics of supers: What does it mean to be a hero when your school trains you for war? When you're asked to fight humans or other supes? Institutional critique: The campus becomes a micro-cosm of the supes-humans power system, and the show critiques both supes and the institutions behind them. Build-up towards larger event: Season 2 is also positioning things for the larger universe (The Boys final season) — it doesn't exist in isolation. What Makes This Season Different / What to Watch For The villainy is more structural than just “bad supes”: Cipher isn't just brute force, he uses ideology and systems. The moral lines blur: characters you thought you knew shift or harden. Emma's shift from naive to hardened is called out in interviews. More crossover and weight in the shared universe: Guest appearances, world-building that ties into The Boys. A sense of “pre-apocalypse” for supes and humans – you feel like the semester at Godolkin is the calm before the larger storm. The production's real-life tragedy (Perdomo's death) gives the season extra emotional stakes and an undercurrent of loss. The Return of the Show This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are talking about the finales of Alien: Earth and The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (remember those shows?). Then delve into a baby pool of Gen V season 2. Finally… Tron: Ares. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Tron: Ares: 5:26 The Terminal List: 14:33 Alien Earth: 28:18 Tron: Ares (2025) Tron: Ares Release date: October 10, 2025 (theatrical) Director: Joachim Rønning Screenwriter: Jesse Wigutow (story also by Wigutow) Producers: Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Jared Leto, Emma Ludbrook, Steven Lisberger Distributor: Walt Disney Pictures Music: Score composed by Nine Inch Nails. Runtime: ~1h 59m (119 minutes) Genre: Sci-fi / action / adventure Cast Jared Leto as Ares (Program) Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn (classic role) Plot Summary (Premise / What We Know) Premise: A sophisticated Program, named Ares, is sent from the digital Grid into the real world on a “dangerous mission,” marking humanity's first direct encounter with sentient A.I. Conflict: Ares is deployed to retrieve Kevin Flynn's permanence code (or a code enabling A.I. extension) from a rival tech CEO, Eve Kim. Ares gradually develops emotions, shifting the mission's stakes. Visuals & Style: Heavy neon, digital effects, light cycles, digital-real world blending. One trailer labels it “Filmed for IMAX.” Music / Sound: The score by Nine Inch Nails. They released a track “As Alive As You Need Me To Be.” Reception (early): Mixed. On Rotten Tomatoes, ~55% Tomatometer, but high audience score (~87%). Production notes: Filming took place in Vancouver, wrapped ~May 2024. Considerations The premise is intriguing (bringing a sentient A.I. into our world), but early reviews note that while the visuals are strong, the plot is sometimes thin or formulaic. Because Tron has a cult legacy and visual identity, expectations are high; missteps in character or plot substance tend to stand out. The Nine Inch Nails score is a bold choice (replacing Daft Punk's iconic Legacy sound) and could either elevate or distance fans depending on taste. The bridging between digital reality and human reality is always a tricky balance — the narrative will need to ground its sci-fi concepts in human stakes (emotions, morality) to avoid feeling hollow. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (Amazon Prime) Series origin: A prequel to The Terminal List, based on the Jack Carr novel and characters. Creators: Jack Carr & David DiGilio Finale / Plot Summary In the finale, Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) and James Reece rejoin forces to expose and dismantle a deep conspiracy that's been manipulating events behind the scenes. In one key sequence, Ben lures Iranian forces into what they think is a trap (a cabin in the mountains outside Tehran) — but it's a reverse ambush. Using hidden defenses, he turns the tide. When the soldiers breach the cabin, Ben's counterattack ignites, intercut with a Pink Floyd “Brain Damage” cue (a stylized flourish) After the finale, Ben's surviving allies spread out across Istanbul, Tehran, and Virginia to address the remaining threads and avenge fallen comrades. Reception / Notes The finale leans hard into action, retribution, and vengeance, with less room for emotional reflection. Some praised its boldness, others saw it as standard action fare wrapped in swagger. Because Dark Wolf is tied to The Terminal List universe, many viewers also weigh how it sets up or reframes earlier entries. Ratings Series Finale Out of 5, Truthful Conclusions Daryl: 4.5/5 Brian: 4.49/5 Series Out of 10, You Don’t Take a Man’s Wings Darryl: 8.3/10 Brian: 7.89/10 Alien: Earth (FX) Series creator / showrunner: Noah Hawley Episode title: “The Real Monsters” Writers: Noah Hawley & Migizi Pensoneau Director: Dana Gonzales Original air date: September 23, 2025 Runtime: ~47 minutes Franchise placement: It's the first TV series in the Alien franchise, set ~2 years before the original Alien film (so circa 2120) Season & Finale Summary Over the season, Wendy (a hybrid human-robot) and her brother Hermit (aka Joe) have been navigating a crash of the spaceship Maginot on Earth, corporate machinations (Prodigy vs Weyland-Yutani), and the threat of Xenomorphs. In the finale, several factions converge at Neverland (the Prodigy research facility). Arthur (a hybrid) gives birth to a second Xenomorph before dying, and the “adult” Xenomorph attacks. Meanwhile, Wendy and the Lost Boys forcibly take control of the facility, locking up Boy Kavalier, Dame Sylvia, Kirsh, Morrow, and Atom Eins in a cell. Wendy summons a Xenomorph to guard them. Joe is nearly fed to a single-eyed creature (“ocellus”) but survives; the ocellus ends up at Arthur's corpse on the beach, potentially taking him as a host. Wendy in the final moments stands over the locked cell and says, “Now, we rule.” She also confronts Boy K with the collapse of his Peter Pan mythology: “You were never a boy. You've always been a man.” Many critics note the finale is more of a cliffhanger than a neat wrap, raising big questions and leaving threads dangling for season 2. Reception & Critique Highlights Praise for visuals, ambition, and performances (especially Morrow vs Kirsh dynamic) Criticism: some felt the show “lost sight” of its eerie, dreamlike tone by the end, and that the finale overused convenience (aliens appearing in exactly the right spots) Ratings Season Finale Out of 5, What Happens When a Boy Genius Is Obsessed with an Eyeball Darryl: 2/5 Brian: 4.32/5 Season 1 Out of 10, Aliens Run a Muck and a Rich Guy’s Island Darryl: 5/10 Brian: 7.25/10 Contact Us The Infamous Podcast can be found wherever podcasts are found on the Interwebs, feel free to subscribe and follow along on social media. When the enemy is inside you — or beside you. This week on the podcast, We're talking Alien: Earth eps 6 & 7 (flies, hybrids, and chestbursters) and Dark Wolf eps 5 & 6 (betrayals & Shepherd reveals). Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Alien: Earth: 5:31 The Terminal List: Dark Wolf: 51:00 Alien: Earth (FX/Hulu) Episode 6 — “The Fly” Writer(s): Noah Hawley & Lisa Long Director: Ugla Hauksdóttir Original Air Date: September 9, 2025 Summary: As the Xenomorph grows, Wendy works on communicating with it. Nibs undergoes testing, prompting Atom Eins to demand her memory be reset to before the Maginot’s crash. Dame reluctantly accepts, but Arthur refuses, and is fired under threat of execution if he is not gone by the end of the day. Wendy, disturbed by Nibs’ behavior afterwards, learns she was reprogrammed. Meanwhile, Kavalier meets with Yutani over the ship’s return and outwits her, securing 20 billion in damages while keeping the specimens for 6 weeks due to quarantine. Kirsh asks Tootles to feed and water the specimens while he is away. However, the Ocellus surprises him into accidentally locking himself in the same cage as two fly-like creatures, who kill him with acid and feed on his body. Slightly tries to lure Joe to the alien eggs, but he declines due to reassignment. Joe later visits a packing Arthur, who covertly deactivates Wendy’s tracking device and gives Joe a boat code to allow them to escape. Noticing Tootles is disconnected, he goes to the lab accompanied by Slightly, who opens the cage of the Xenomorph eggs and locks him in, allowing a facehugger to latch onto Arthur. Kirsh watches this through security cameras, but does not tell Kavalier. Slightly hides along with Arthur’s body in an air vent as the flies leave their cell. Rating Out of 5 Facehuggers Are Not a Good Severance Package Darryl: 3.5/5 Brian: 3.5/5 Episode 7 — “Emergence” Writer(s): Noah Hawley & Maria Melnik Director: Dana Gonzales Original Air Date: September 16, 2025 Summary: Smee discovers Slightly hiding an incapacitated Arthur, and the latter convinces him to help deliver Arthur to Morrow on the beach. Security re-secures the lab specimens. Wendy is disgusted by Kavalier’s attitude to Tootles’ death, and convinces Nibs to join her and Joe in escaping the island. On her way out, Wendy hacks the lab system, releasing the grown Xenomorph, which rampages and escapes into the forest. Kirsh finds Slightly and Smee carrying Arthur’s body, but helps them take a faster route to the beach. Outside, Arthur awakes after the facehugger dies. Shortly after, a newborn Xenomorph bursts from his chest and escapes. The hybrids take the corpse to the beach, where Morrow’s Yutani team meets them. Having failed to bring him the newborn, Morrow takes them captive. After Kirsh shows him the Ocellus caused the lab accident, Kavalier becomes fascinated with the creature’s intelligence, and wants to place it into a human host. Outside, Wendy, Joe, and Nibs are held at gunpoint by Yutani forces, but Wendy calls the Xenomorph which kills them. She comforts it, sparing them. Morrow’s team enter the facility, but they are taken captive by Kirsh, who has also captured the newborn Xenomorph. Wendy, Joe, and Nibs reach the boat, but they are intercepted by Neverland security. Nibs, frustrated, brutally kills a soldier, prompting Joe to incapacitate her. A shocked Wendy scolds Joe, as the Xenomorph watches in the distance. Rating Out of 5 Every Premium Needs a Pet Xenomorph Darryl: 2.95/5 Brian: 4/5 The Terminal List: Dark Wolf (Amazon Prime) Episode 5 — “E&E” Writer(s): Hennah Sekander Director: Paul Cameron Original Air Date: September 10, 2025 Summary: Edwards confronts Perash in Zurich and retrieves the bearings. She insists Mossad didn’t plan the attack and her and Varon’s real mission is to investigate Haverford, who they believe is being manipulated by Shepherd. The two are attacked by a Farsi speaking tactical team, who Perash believes was sent by Shepherd, but escape after an intense gunfight. Whilst recovering in a safe house, Perash tells Edwards she never intended to kill him, even if her mission demanded it. Varon hacks the secure portal used by Haverford to communicate with Shepherd, tracing it to an apartment in Munich. She is attacked by the occupant, but eventually kills him and leaves with his laptop. Hastings tortures an operative captured from the convoy, who before dying reveals he is not Khalid Network but BND and the subsequent attackers were not affiliated with German intelligence. Hastings is distraught upon hearing this, unsuccessfully attempting to save the man. Edwards and Perash leave Zurich rendezvous with the team, but are attacked by a pair of assassins who kill the latter with a bomb. Edwards kills both men, and recovers a bracelet made by her daughter from Perash’s body before fleeing the scene. Rating Out of 5 Torturing Allies Is Actually a Bad Thing Darryl: 3.75/5 Brian: 3.8/5 Episode 6 — “Pawns & Kings” Writer(s): Jared Shaw & Max Adams Director: Paul Cameron Original Air Date: (September 17, 2025) Summary: Cyrus assures Saedi he will have the bearings the following day. Saedi criticises Vahid’s enamoration with the West. Edwards reunites with the team in Stein. Hastings confirms the bearings they retrieved are also fakes. Haverford admits Shepherd played them to stop the BND’s own disruption operation. He states Vahid Rahimi, now in custody, is Shepherd, and ordered the team killed in a panic to cover his own tracks, fearing Saedi would discover his actions. Haverford forces Vahid to confirm the bearings exchange point with Cyrus, then executes him. Mossad tells Varon Haverford terminated Shepherd, but she analyses the laptop and sees further portal activity after Vahid’s execution. Hastings, disillusioned with their actions, fails to convince Edwards to walk away with him. Farooq, Landry and Edwards, impersonating KN couriers, meet Saedi at an airstrip. He tests the bearings, which are revealed to be genuine. Haverford is shown to be working with Cyrus, the real Shepherd. By having the bearings deal proceed, Cyrus can made Foreign Minister, replace hardliner Saedi and improve Iranian-Western relations as a CIA plant. Varon sends proof of this to the team, prompting them to attack Saedi’s plane before it departs, killing him and his Quds Force bodyguards and retrieving the bearings. Haverford reports the team as rogue traitors to the CIA Director to cover his own back. Reuniting with Varon, they prepare to prove Haverford’s treachery. What If the CIA and Weyland-Yutani Merged? (Spoiler: Everyone Dies) This week on the podcast, Alien: Earth Episode 5 and Episodes 3 & 4 of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf reviews. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Alien Earth: The Terminal List: Alien: Earth (FX/Hulu) Episode 5 – “In Space, No One…” Summary: A flashback shows the events that occurred on the Maginot starting seventeen days before it reached Earth. Junior security officer Clem wakes Morrow from cryosleep and tells him there has been a fire in one of the containment rooms. Two facehuggers have escaped and latched upon ship’s captain Dinsdale and science officer Bronski. Dinsdale dies from the facehugger’s acid blood when medical officer Rahim attempts to cut the tail from his neck. After being told by engineer Shmuel that the ship’s navigational systems were also damaged in the fire, Morrow concludes that a crew member has sabotaged the ship. Executive officer Zaveri assumes command of the ship, but Morrow threatens to relieve her if she does not prioritize the creatures above the crew. Bronski is placed in cryo-sleep to prevent the gestation of the Xenomorph, but this fails. In science officer Chibuzo’s lab, one leech specimen manages to open its test tube from the inside, and lays its larvae in her water bottle. Witnessing this, the Ocellus also escapes after Chibuzo fails to seal its containment vessel. Apprentice engineer Malachite drinks the water, and the larvae kill him from the inside; Chibuzo and Rahim are also killed by their defensive toxic gas when trying to extract them. Witnessing this, Zavari is in shock and Morrow relieves her of command. After being interrogated by Morrow, navigator Teng is killed by the fully-grown Xenomorph. Chief engineer Petrovich is revealed to be behind the sabotage at the order of Boy Kavalier, who promises him a hybrid body if the ship crashes in Prodigy territory. Petrovich kills Clem and is in turn killed by Morrow, who retreats to the control room and seals himself in. Zaveri is killed by the Xenomorph outside the door. With everyone dead, Morrow locks himself in the panic room and awaits the crash. Back in the present, Morrow meets with Yutani, offering to retrieve the specimens by force and kill Kavalier. Writer/Director: Written and directed by Noah Hawley Cast Highlights: Richa Moorjani (Zaveri), Sandra Yi Sencindiver (Yutani), Amir Boutrous (Rahim), Karen Aldridge (Chibuzo), Michael Smiley (Shmuel), Jamie Bisping (Malachite), Andy Yu (Teng), Max Rinehart (Bronski), Enzo Cilenti (Petrovich), Tom Moya (Clem). Air Date & Stats: Aired September 2, 2025, on FX and FX on Hulu. Duration: 64 minutes. Viewership: ~0.361 million households; 0.10 rating (18–49 demo). Style & Reception: Critics lauded its homages to Ridley Scott's original Alien, elevated tension, and emotional depth. Called a “banger” and “standout” bottle episode. Out of 5 In Space, No One… Hears You in the Loving Embrace of a Facehugger Darryl: 4.15/5 Brian: 4.28/5 The Terminal List: Dark (Amazon Prime) Episode 3 – “What’s Past Is Prologue” Summary: Vahid and Cyrus Rahimi attend a conference on the Iranian nuclear agreement in Geneva, and later meet with Minister Yousef Saedi. Farooq, Landry, and another CIA officer, Ish Reinhart, join Haverford’s team. Danawi’s phone shows he received $5 million in cryptocurrency to deliver to Balaz Molnar, a nuclear physics professor in Budapest. Texts come through from another number identified as Thana Haddad. Farooq questions her and discovers she is Danawi’s estranged daughter, but can’t bring himself to follow orders to kill her. Varon agrees not to tell the others after he confesses that, as a teenager, his sisters were raped by Uday Hussein, but he later helped the Americans in eliminating him. Edwards and Perash bond, but he becomes more estranged from his wife stateside. Impersonating Danawi, Farooq meets with Molnar and purchases proof of concept for proprietary bearings he is selling to Iran, which will enable them to still enrich uranium with the smaller number of centrifuges mandated by the nuclear deal. A third-party team tail Farooq after the meeting until he is extracted by Landry, and one kills Reinhart. Edwards has Varon cut CCTV and guns the man down on the Budapest Metro, taking a photo for identification before being extracted himself. Writer & Director: Directed by Liz Friedlander, written by Naomi Iizuka and Max Adams. Cast Highlights: Taylor Kitsch (Ben Edwards), Tom Hopper (Raife Hastings), Chris Pratt (James Reece), Rona‑Lee Shimon (Eliza Perash), Dar Salim (Mo Farooq), Rashidz Tzarfati (Tal Varon), Robert Wisdom (Jed Haverford), among others. Air Date: Premiered August 27, 2025 alongside Episodes 1 & 2. Episode 4 – “The Sound of the Guns” Summary: Hastings is contacted by a former Selous Scouts associate of his father, who confirms Haverford manages a long-term asset in Tehran codenamed Shepherd. Minister Saedi thanks Cyrus for his clandestine work, but Vahid begins to question their actions of putting nuclear weapons in the hands of such men. The team relocates to Munich, discovering the third party is the nuclear proliferation Khalid Network, working to move the bearings into Iran before the nuclear deal is finalised. Haverford plans to intercept the convoy in Geneva and swap Molnar's bearings for fakes, rendering Iran's new facility useless. He assures a suspicious Hastings that Shepherd’s intel is legitimate. Edwards and Perash kiss whilst scouting a location. Varon secures the fake bearings from Mossad agent Mordechai Ofer. Hastings becomes concerned about collateral damage with the convoy ambush plan and Edwards’ change in attitude. Edwards argues their current posting allows them to take real action compared to serving under military red tape. Haverford kills Molnar. Impersonating Austrian Federal Police, the team attacks the Khalid Network convoy and obtains the bearings, but are met by a large team of shooters on exfil. Farooq is injured and extracted by Landry. The Israelis betray the team, hacking Haverford's phone and stealing the bearings after incapacitating Edwards. Writer & Director: Directed by Liz Friedlander, written by Kenny Sheard. Air Date: Dropped September 3, 2025. On last week's episode, I talked with comedian Tim Murray, co-star of the new show Wish You Were Queer, alongside Michael Henry and Trixie Mattel. This week, we're going behind the scenes to chat with the show's producer, Frank Spadafora. Frank's a former theater kid who realized that his real talent lay in wrangling his weird queer friends into making zany projects — sort of like Kermit the Frog, but very very gay. We'll have that conversation in just a minute. My guest this week is comedian Tim Murray, co-star of the new show Wish You Were Queer, alongside Michael Henry and Trixie Mattel. The show follows two friends on a real road trip around the country, each week exploring a new city where they have just a few days to create a new stand-up show for each local audience. The entire series is streaming now on OUTtv. Tim's entry into entertainment came from a very different genre from comedy — a childhood interest in horror. But as you'll hear, making people laugh and making people scream isn't as different as it might seem. We'll have that conversation in just a minute.
