Rated R for Romance and Robots This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl kick things off with a live trailer watch of Ironheart—because nothing says excitement like corporate-mandated teen genius content. Then it's a double feature of cinematic chaos with reviews of Love Hurts (aka “What if John Wick cried more?”) and Novocaine (the feel-nothing action movie we didn't know we needed). In the brewing and distilling industries there is a mutual appreciation of the craftsmanship, skill and process involved in creating these fantastic liquids. And today's guest, having worked and studied in both fields, is well placed to do just that. Earlier this month Glen Scotia, part of Loch Lomond Distillery, unveiled Glen Scotia 50 Year Old. Glen Scotia Elements of Campbeltown Release Number One: Air is described as an exceptional 50-year-old single malt which marks a pivotal moment in the distillery's history, as its oldest ever release. And this prestigious release follows on from the launch of Loch Lomond Whiskies 50-year-old single malt. These esteemed liquids have seen the light of day thanks to the stewardship of Michael Henry, a reputed distiller who has a background in both brewing and distilling. A whisky five decades in the making, Loch Lomond 50 Year Old is drawn from Loch Lomond Distillery's oldest reserves and is exclusively limited to 100 individually-numbered bottles worldwide. Distilled in 1973 in the distillery's unique straight neck pot stills, it uses 100% unpeated malted barley. It was then aged in a combination of refilled American oak casks, first fill bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry hogsheads. The maturation process was carefully managed by Loch Lomond Whiskies' master blender, Michael Henry, who joined Loch Lomond Distillery in 2007. And the distillery's oldest and rarest whisky casks remain exclusively under his personal care.In this episode, Michael talks us through in his involvement in this special project, he takes us through his career to-date and also shares what keeps him driven and inspired.
From Xenomorphs to ETs: Which Alien Species is the Best? This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl boldly go into the sci-fi vault to debate the most creative alien species in the galaxy. Think Na'vi spirituality meets Xenomorph acid vomit. From hive-minded cybernetic zombies to fire-based art snobs, it's time to crown the weirdest, wildest, most wonderful extraterrestrials in fiction. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Alien, Mine: Alien Showdown… Who’s the Best? Darryl Heptapods (from Arrival) Physical Traits – Appearance: Heptapods are seven-limbed (hence the name “hepta-” meaning seven) creatures with a large, oval-shaped head and a body that appears to be semi-transparent2. – Eyes: They have thousands of small, dime-sized eyes in clusters, which are actually patches of photosensitive skin. – Sensory Perception: They use sophisticated sonar to perceive their environment, allowing them to detect even minute details. Culture – Non-linear Perception of Time: Heptapods experience time non-linearly, meaning they perceive past, present, and future simultaneously. This is reflected in their language and behavior3. – Patience and Long-term Thinking: Their non-linear perception of time gives them a unique perspective on patience and long-term consequences. They are willing to wait for humans to understand their language and purpose4. – Purpose of Arrival: They arrive on Earth to share their language, Heptapod B, which they believe will help humanity understand their non-linear perception of time and potentially aid them in the future. Language – Heptapod A: This is their spoken language, which sounds very organic and is designed to be heard rather than spoken. – Heptapod B: This is their written language, consisting of circular logograms that represent entire concepts or sentences rather than individual words. The meaning of these logograms depends on the tendrils and splotches branching out from their circular rings2. – Impact on Humans: Learning Heptapod B alters the human perception of time, allowing them to experience events out of sequence, similar to how Heptapods perceive time. MorningLightMountain (Commonwealth Saga by Peter F. Hamilton) Physical Traits: – Prime Bodies: MorningLightMountain’s consciousness inhabits billions of distinct Prime bodies. These bodies are divided into two types: motiles and immotiles1. – Motiles: Motiles can see and move but are relatively unintelligent on their own. – Immotiles: Immotiles are blind and immobile but highly intelligent. They can breed motiles, and four motiles can merge to form a new immotile1. – Wormhole Technology: MorningLightMountain possesses wormhole technology, allowing its bodies to communicate over arbitrarily large distances. Mental Traits: – Hive Mind: MorningLightMountain operates as a hive mind, with a single united consciousness spread across billions of bodies. – Xenophobic and Expansionist: The Primes, including MorningLightMountain, are highly xenophobic and expansionist, seeking to subsume or destroy other species. – Highly Intelligent: Immotiles can link to each other for greater processing power, making MorningLightMountain one of the most powerful Primes. Linguistic Traits: – Non-Verbal Communication: MorningLightMountain primarily communicates non-verbally through its network of bodies. – Radio Transmitters: Primes use implanted radio transmitters to stay wirelessly connected, allowing for long-range communication. Saga of the Seven Suns series (Kevin J Anderson) Hydrogues – Physical Traits: Elemental beings composed of water and gas, often appearing as massive, swirling masses of liquid and vapor. – Culture: Highly territorial and aggressive, especially when their habitats are threatened. They have a deep connection to water and gas. – Language: Communicate through complex patterns of vibrations and waves. Faeros – Physical Traits: Elemental beings associated with fire and light, emitting a warm glow and capable of producing flames. – Culture: Passionate and energetic, valuing creativity and expression. They are often involved in artistic and spiritual pursuits. – Language: Communicate through a combination of spoken language and visual symbols, using their fiery abilities to create intricate patterns and displays. Borg Physical Traits: – Cybernetic Enhancements: The Borg are a collective of various species that have been assimilated and augmented with cybernetic implants. This results in a mix of biological and mechanical features. – Pale Skin: Their skin tends to be pale or grayish due to the integration of technology and loss of individuality. – Mechanical Limbs and Eyes: Many Borg drones have mechanical limbs and/or eyes, often replacing their original biological parts with more efficient cybernetic versions. Culture: – Collective Consciousness: The Borg operate as a hive mind, known as the Collective. Individuality is suppressed, and all drones are connected through a central consciousness. – Assimilation: The primary goal of the Borg is to assimilate other species to enhance their own collective knowledge and capabilities. This is often done forcibly, with the mantra “Resistance is futile.” – Efficient and Methodical: The Borg are highly efficient and methodical in their actions, driven by their collective purpose of achieving perfection. Language: – Communal Communication: The Borg communicate internally through their collective consciousness, sharing thoughts and information instantaneously. – Distinctive Speech Patterns: When speaking externally, the Borg often use a collective “we” to represent their hive mind and have a monotone, emotionless speech pattern. Changelings (Founders) Physical Traits: – Shapeshifters: Changelings are highly advanced shapeshifters capable of assuming any form, from humanoid figures to inanimate objects. – Gelatinous State: In their natural form, Changelings exist as a gelatinous mass, which they revert to when at rest or regenerating. – Golden Hue: Their gelatinous form has a distinctive golden hue. Culture: – Great Link: The Changelings share a deep connection through the Great Link, a shared state where they merge together in their natural form, exchanging thoughts and experiences. – Isolation and Control: Historically, Changelings have sought to isolate themselves from solids (non-shapeshifting species) and control them to protect themselves from persecution and harm. – Founders of the Dominion: Changelings are the ruling species of the Dominion, a powerful political and military alliance in the Gamma Quadrant. They employ the Vorta and Jem’Hadar as their loyal servants to enforce their will. Language: – Universal Communication: Changelings typically communicate in the languages of the species they interact with. Their ability to shapeshift allows them to perfectly mimic speech. – Telepathic Connection: Within the Great Link, communication is telepathic and intuitive, allowing for an exchange of complex ideas and emotions without words. Na’vi (James Cameron Avatar movies) Physical Traits – Height and Build: The Na’vi are tall, standing about 10 feet (3 meters) in height, and have a slender, graceful build. – Blue Skin: They have blue skin with bioluminescent patterns that glow in the dark, helping them blend into their environment. – Four-Fingered Hands: Unlike humans, the Na’vi have four fingers on each hand and four toes on each foot. – Cat-like Features: They have large, expressive, golden eyes, pointed ears, and tails, giving them a feline appearance. – Braid with Neural Queue: Each Na’vi has a long braid called a “tswin,” which contains a neural queue that allows them to connect with other creatures and the environment on Pandora. Culture – Deep Connection with Nature: The Na’vi live in harmony with the natural world of Pandora. They have a deep spiritual connection with the flora, fauna, and the planet itself. – Clans and Tribes: The Na’vi are organized into various clans and tribes, each with its own customs and traditions. The Omaticaya clan, for example, resides in the Hometree. – Eywa: The Na’vi worship Eywa, the Great Mother, a deity representing the interconnectedness of all life on Pandora. They believe that Eywa maintains the balance of life. – Rites of Passage: Na’vi culture includes several rites of passage, such as the bonding with a direhorse (pa’li) and a mountain banshee (ikran), which signify one’s transition into adulthood. – Hunting and Gathering: The Na’vi are skilled hunters and gatherers, relying on their environment for sustenance while respecting the creatures they hunt. Language – Na’vi Language: The Na’vi have their own language, developed specifically for the film by linguist Dr. Paul Frommer. It is a fully functional language with its own grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. – Tsaheylu: The neural bond, called “tsaheylu,” allows the Na’vi to connect with other creatures and their environment. This connection is a form of communication that transcends spoken language. Xenomorphs (Alien Franchise) Physical Traits: – Exoskeleton: Xenomorphs have a biomechanical, black exoskeleton that provides them with great durability and a fearsome appearance. – Elongated Skull: They possess an elongated, ridged skull with a lack of visible eyes, giving them a terrifying, eyeless visage. – Inner Jaws: Equipped with a secondary, inner jaw that can extend from their mouths for lethal attacks. – Tail: Their long, muscular tails end in a sharp blade, which they use for both balance and as a weapon. – Acidic Blood: Their blood is highly acidic, capable of burning through metal and other materials. Culture: – Hive Structure: Xenomorphs have a hive-based social structure, with a Queen at the center, responsible for laying eggs and maintaining the population. – Instinct-Driven: They operate primarily on instinct, driven by a need to propagate their species. This includes capturing hosts for their Facehuggers to implant embryos. – Parasitic Life Cycle: Their life cycle involves multiple stages: Egg, Facehugger, Chestburster, and Adult. The Facehugger attaches to a host, implanting an embryo that later emerges violently from the host’s chest as a Chestburster. – Adaptive and Versatile: They can adapt to different environments and hosts, resulting in various Xenomorph types with specific traits influenced by their host species. Language: – Non-Verbal Communication: Xenomorphs communicate non-verbally through body language, pheromones, and hisses or screeches. Their interactions are primarily based on their hive hierarchy and instinctual behaviors. Species 8472 (Undine) — Honorable Mention Physical Traits: – Tripedal and Non-Humanoid: Species 8472, also known as Undine, are tripedal beings with a non-humanoid appearance. – Fluidic Space Origin: They originate from a dimension called fluidic space, which is accessible through quantum singularities. – Biological Technology: Their highly developed biology and organic technology make them tactically superior to the Borg. Culture: – War with the Borg: Species 8472 engaged in a war with the Borg after the Borg invaded their realm of fluidic space. They proved immune to assimilation and launched a counter-invasion of the galaxy2. – Genocidal Intentions: They have a genocidal intent towards other species, considering them a threat. – Negotiations with the Federation: Captain Kathryn Janeway of the USS Voyager negotiated peace with Species 8472, using a weapon developed from Borg nanoprobes to force them to retreat. Language: – Telepathic Communication: Species 8472 communicate telepathically, using their telepathic abilities to convey thoughts and intentions. – Unknown Name: Their name for themselves is unknown, as they are referred to by their Borg designation. Brian Farscape Luxans – Tall, warrior-like humanoids with a warrior code of honor. – Recognizable by their facial tendrils and thick-skinned appearance. – Can heal themselves through a process called “battlefield transfusion.” – Notable Character: Ka D'Argo – A fierce but noble warrior with a tragic past. Delvians – A sentient plant-based species with blue skin and photokinetic abilities. – Capable of deep meditation and powerful telepathic abilities. – Often have a spiritual or religious focus. – Notable Character: Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan – A Delvian priestess who can use her mind and biochemistry to heal or harm. Pilots – Large, multi-limbed creatures that are biologically bonded to Leviathans (living ships). – They have a deep connection with their Leviathan and can control their functions. – Notable Character: Pilot – The pilot of Moya, who communicates with the crew and the ship. Leviathans – Living, biomechanical starships that possess sentience. – Generally peaceful but can be forced into servitude by Peacekeeper “Control Collars.” – Notable Character: Moya – The Leviathan that serves as the home and transport for Crichton and his crew. Star Wars (Expanded Universe) Yuuzhan Vong Who Are the Yuuzhan Vong? The Yuuzhan Vong are an extragalactic warrior species who invaded the Star Wars galaxy, triggering the Yuuzhan Vong War (25–29 ABY). Unlike most species in Star Wars, they: – Are immune to the Force – Jedi cannot sense them, and their presence in the galaxy caused major upheaval in the Force itself. – Use only organic technology – They abhor droids and mechanical technology, instead using genetically engineered living creatures as weapons, ships, and tools. – Are deeply religious and fanatical – They follow a strict caste system and worship pain as a path to enlightenment. Biology & Appearance – Humanoid, but with ritualistic scarring and tattooing that marks their status in society. – They believe in self-mutilation and pain as a form of religious devotion. – Have a higher pain tolerance than most species. – They view cybernetics and machines as heretical and replace body parts with living biotechnological organisms. Society & Culture The Yuuzhan Vong are organized into a rigid caste system: – The Supreme Overlord – The absolute ruler of their species. – Notable Character: Supreme Overlord Shimrra, who led the invasion of the galaxy. – The Warrior Caste – Devoted soldiers who follow a strict code of honor. – The Priest Caste – Religious leaders who interpret the will of the gods. – The Shaper Caste – Scientists responsible for bioengineering their weapons and technology. – The Intendant Caste – Bureaucrats and administrators. – The Worker Caste – The lowest rank, responsible for labor. Their entire culture revolves around pain, sacrifice, and religious zeal, believing that their gods command them to conquer and purify the galaxy. Yuuzhan Vong Technology (All Organic) – Living Starships (Coralskippers & Worldships) – Instead of metal ships, they use bio-engineered living vessels. – Vonduun Crab Armor – Grown, not manufactured, and is resistant to lightsabers. – Amphistaffs – Living snake-like weapons that function as both swords and whips. – Dovin Basals – Creatures that create miniature black holes to absorb attacks (even deflecting turbolaser fire). – Yorik Coral – Used to construct buildings, ships, and even restrain captives. The Yuuzhan Vong War (25–29 ABY) – The Yuuzhan Vong invaded the New Republic, launching a brutal war. – They captured and terraformed many worlds, including turning Coruscant into a massive Yuuzhan Vong ecosystem. – The Jedi, New Republic, and remnants of the Empire had to unite to fight them. – The war ended when Supreme Overlord Shimrra was killed, and his second-in-command, Onimi, was revealed as the real mastermind. – After their defeat, the surviving Yuuzhan Vong were relocated to Zonama Sekot, a living planet. Why Are They So Unique? – They stand out from all other Star Wars villains because they don't use the Force and their biology/technology is completely different from the rest of the galaxy. – They pushed the Jedi to their limits—without the ability to sense them in the Force, traditional Jedi tactics were ineffective. – Their brutality and disregard for machines made them unlike the Sith, the Empire, or any other major villains in Star Wars. Legacy in Star Wars While the Yuuzhan Vong were a major part of Legends, they have not appeared in the Disney canon yet. However, The Clone Wars animated series almost introduced them in a scrapped episode. Falling Skies Espheni (Overlords) – The main antagonists for most of the series. – An advanced, insectoid-like species with a strict hierarchical society. – Possess telepathic abilities and are highly intelligent strategists. – Use a combination of biotechnology and mechanical technology for warfare. – Consider humans an inferior species and attempt to enslave them. – They have an imperialistic nature, having conquered multiple planets before Earth. Notable Espheni: – The Espheni Overlords – Tall, slender, and powerful commanders of the invasion. – The Espheni Queen – The true leader of the invasion, revealed in the final season. Skitters (Arachnids) – Multi-limbed, insectoid creatures used as foot soldiers by the Espheni. – Originally another enslaved species, controlled through neural harnesses attached to their spines. – Many Skitters are loyal to the Espheni, but a rebel faction exists. – Known for high mobility, leaping abilities, and brutal combat skills. Notable Skitters: – Red-Eye – A rebel Skitter who aids the human resistance. – Harnessed Children – Human children forcibly enslaved by the Espheni using a similar mind-controlling harness. The Harnessed – Human (mainly children) captives of the Espheni, controlled through a biomechanical harness attached to their spines. – The harness allows the Espheni to control their minds and enhance their physical abilities. – Over time, harnessed children begin to transform into Skitters themselves. – Ben Mason, the son of protagonist Tom Mason, is partially harnessed but later freed. The Volm – A technologically advanced, humanoid alien species that arrives in Season 3 to help humanity. – They have been at war with the Espheni for generations and seek to liberate Earth. – Use energy-based weapons and powerful war machines. – While allied with humans, their leader, Cochise, warns that they have their own agenda. Notable Volm: – Cochise – The main Volm character, who forms a bond with the humans and helps them fight the Espheni. The Dornia (The Ancient Enemy) – Introduced late in the series as a mysterious aquatic species. – The original victims of the Espheni, nearly wiped out in the past. – Offer limited aid to the human resistance but provide key knowledge for defeating the Espheni Queen. – Their advanced biology allows them to manipulate water-based environments. Final Thoughts – The Espheni are classic conquerors, much like the Yuuzhan Vong (Star Wars) or Scarrans (Farscape), but with an added layer of biotechnology. – The Skitters are tragic figures, originally a peaceful species enslaved by the Espheni. – The Volm act as reluctant saviors, assisting humanity while maintaining their own goals. – The show played with themes of resistance, survival, and moral ambiguity, especially when it came to dealing with harnessed humans. Why do Men prefer to be alone with a Gorilla? This week on The Infamous Podcast, Brian and Darryl tackle one of the internet's dumbest (and somehow most passionate) debates: 100 Men vs. a Gorilla. Could a man take a gorilla in a fair fight? No. Could 100? Probably not. Will we talk about it anyway? Absolutely. Then, it's time for some mini-reviews: Brian breaks down The Accountant 2—does Ben Affleck still bring the spreadsheet-smashing heat? While, Darryl reviews Thunderbolts**—a.k.a. the New Avengers, B-Team edition. Is Marvel back, or is it still stuck in its own multiversal funk? Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The New Avengers: 5:26 The Accountant 2: 15:15 100 Men vs. a Gorilla: 27:37 Mini-Review: Thunderbolts* (Darryl) – “It's not the Avengers you wanted, it's the team we got.” Out of 10 Wow this is what Summer School Sports Teams Look Like Darryl: 6.5/10 Summary Thunderbolts* is Marvel's latest attempt at a team-up movie where the B-team does C-tier missions with D-level emotional development. It's like The Avengers if everyone needed therapy, a second chance, and a better script. Think Suicide Squad, but with less attitude and more MCU baggage. Mini-Review: The Accountant 2 (Brian) – “Autism, action, and accounting: the triple-A blockbuster?” Out of 10 Ben Affleck When Full Simple Jack, You Never Go Full Simple Jack Brian: 5.75/10 Summary The Accountant 2 sees Ben Affleck back as the world's most dangerous math nerd—solving problems with spreadsheets and suppressed submachine guns. It's part action thriller, part tax season fever dream. Somehow, it's even more emotionally reserved than the IRS, but hey—at least the body count balances out. 100 Men vs. a Gorilla (our 100 men from fact, fiction, and the great beyond) Brian and Darryl take on the internet's dumbest debate live—by drafting their personal squad of 100 men to go toe-to-toe with one gorilla. No prep. No weapons. Just questionable logic, weird strategy, and vibes. Expect cameos from history, pop culture, and possibly professional wrestlers. Will it help? Absolutely not. But it'll be hilarious. The Men 1. Simon Phoenix 2. Contact Us The Infamous Podcast can be found wherever podcasts are found on the Interwebs, feel free to subscribe and follow along on social media. One of these stories had a resurrection that actually worked… This week on The Infamous Podcast, Brian and Darryl close the chapter on Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, and it's… a choice. Then they dig into Amazon's new supernatural bounty hunter series The Bondsman, which might just be the weirdest thing Prime Video has greenlit this month (and that's saying something). Darryl delivers a mini-review of The King of Kings—a cinematic sermon or box office blunder? Meanwhile, Brian charges in with a tactical breakdown of Warfare, where the explosions were loud and the film was in-ten-city-in-ten-cities. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The King of Kings Mini-Review: 6:00 Warfare Mini-Review: 12:08 Daredevil: Born Again Finale: 21:50 The Bondsman Season 1: 36:11 Mini-Review: The King of Kings (2025) – Rating 8/10 Summary Directed by Seong-ho Jang, this animated film features Charles Dickens (voiced by Kenneth Branagh) narrating the life of Jesus to his son Walter, who imagines himself witnessing biblical events. The film combines a unique framing device with a faithful retelling of the Gospels, featuring voice talents like Oscar Isaac as Jesus and Mark Hamill as King Herod. It's a heartfelt, family-friendly portrayal that resonates with audiences of all ages. Mini-Review: Warfare (2025) – Rating 6.75/10 Summary Co-directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland, “Warfare” offers a harrowing, real-time depiction of a Navy SEAL mission gone awry in Ramadi, Iraq. Based on Mendoza's own experiences, the film immerses viewers in the chaos of combat, highlighting the psychological toll on soldiers. With a strong ensemble cast and a commitment to authenticity, it's a visceral exploration of modern warfare's realities. Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+) Out of 5 Broken Batons Darryl: 2.75/5 Brian: 3.2/5 Season 1 Out of 10 Conflicted Catholics in Spandex Darryl: 6.25/10 Brian: 6.9/10 Summary In the finale titled “Straight to Hell,” Matt Murdock faces devastating losses: Foggy Nelson is murdered by Bullseye under Vanessa Fisk's orders, and Kingpin seizes control of New York, imposing martial law. Despite the chaos, Matt, with allies like Karen Page and the Punisher, begins to form a resistance, setting the stage for a darker, more intense Season 2. The Bondsman – Season 1 (Prime) Out of 10 Deals with the Devil Darryl: 7.5/10 Brian: 7.85/10 Summary The Bondsman is a supernatural western-action series from Amazon Prime that blends grit, grief, and a touch of hellfire. It follows Hub Halloran (played by Kevin Bacon), a grizzled and recently deceased bounty hunter who gets a second shot at redemption — but with a catch: he's brought back to life by the Devil himself to track down demons who've escaped Hell. Armed with his cowboy instincts, a sarcastic streak, and a growing sense of purpose, Hub rides across dusty towns and shadowy landscapes hunting hellspawn, questioning whether this is punishment, penance… or something more cosmic. Along the way, he reconnects with estranged family, forms an unlikely bond with a demon-turned-sidekick named Midge, and uncovers a deeper plot that could tear open the gates of Hell permanently. The tone walks a line between Justified and Supernatural, with bursts of dark humor, philosophical musings, and buckets of demon-slaying chaos. Bacon brings swagger and weariness in equal measure, anchoring a surprisingly emotional core in a show that never takes itself too seriously — until it suddenly does. Episode 1: “Hell to Pay” Bounty hunter Hub Halloran is murdered and resurrected by the Devil to hunt escaped demons, marking the start of his supernatural journey. Episode 2: “Dead Man's Debt” Hub captures an arsonist named Tater, uncovering a larger demonic plot. Episode 3: “Family Ties” Hub reconnects with his estranged family, seeking assistance in his mission. Episode 4: “Crossroads” A demon threatens a local community, forcing Hub to make a moral choice. Episode 5: “The Devil's Due” Hub confronts the consequences of his past actions as a bounty hunter. Episode 6: “Revelations” Hub uncovers a deeper conspiracy involving escaped demons and seeks help from Midge. Episode 7: “Pyralis” Hub and Midge attempt to prevent an apocalyptic event orchestrated by a powerful demon. Episode 8: “Lilith” Hub confronts his greatest sin and faces a formidable demonic adversary, seeking redemption. She realizes he is Muse and Bastian knocks her unconscious. Murdock and the AVTF separately find paintings of Glenn in Muse’s lair and go to save her. When Your Movie Trailer is a Lie 101 This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are breaking down the disappointing box office performance of Snow Brown, talking about Cody vs. Cena, reviewing the last two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, share a very disappointed review for A Working Man, and then it’s on to the Reacher Season 3 finale. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Snow Brown Box Office: Cena vs. Cody: Daredevil: A Working Man: Reacher: Snow Brown Box Office As of March 30, 2025, Snow White has accumulated $66.9 million in the United States and Canada, with an additional $75.8 million from international markets, totaling approximately $142.8 million worldwide. Given the film's substantial production and marketing budget, industry analysts suggest it would need to gross around $500 million globally to break even, indicating potential financial losses for Disney. John Cena and Cody Rhodes Cook on the Road to Wrestlemania On Monday Night Raw at London's O2 Arena, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and John Cena engaged in a heated confrontation ahead of their WrestleMania 41 main event. The segment began with Cena addressing the audience, only to be interrupted by Rhodes, who challenged Cena's recent criticisms. The exchange quickly escalated, with both men delivering personal and intense verbal attacks. Cena accused Rhodes of being a “sociopathic nepo baby” with an inflated ego, referencing his neck tattoo and past gimmicks. Rhodes countered by questioning Cena's authenticity and motivations, suggesting that the fans chose him, whereas Cena was selected by a now-absent figure in WWE management. The confrontation culminated physically when Cena attempted a cheap shot, but Rhodes countered, delivering his signature “Cross Rhodes” maneuver, leaving Cena laid out in the ring. This intense segment has significantly amplified anticipation for their upcoming clash at WrestleMania 41. Daredevil: Born Again (Disney Plus) Episode 5: “With Interest” Out of 5 Please Don’t Remind Us Darryl: 3/5 Brian: 4.03/5 Director: Jeffrey Nachmanoff Writer: Grainne Godfree Air Date: March 25, 2025 Summary: Matt Murdock finds himself entangled in a bank robbery alongside Yusuf Khan, father of Ms. Marvel. While some viewers appreciated the lighter, standalone nature of the episode, others felt it was a filler that didn't advance the main plot. The inclusion of Yusuf Khan was seen by some as a fun MCU connection, while others viewed it as forced. Overall, the episode received mixed reactions, with some enjoying the change of pace and others longing for more substantial narrative progression. Episode 6: “Excessive Force” Out of 5 Dueling Fight Scenes Darryl: 4/5 Brian: 4.13/5 Director: David Boyd Writer: Thomas Wong Air Date: March 25, 2025 Summary: Matt Murdock finally decides that playing dress-up in red spandex is the best way to tackle New York's latest menace—a serial killer named Muse who thinks painting with blood is avant-garde. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk, ever the multitasker, juggles his mayoral duties with forming a secret police squad of “bad apples” to combat vigilantes, because nothing says “law and order” like unchecked brutality. The episode oscillates between Daredevil's gritty showdown with Muse and Fisk's personal therapy session, which involves beating a man senseless in a prison cell. It's a heartwarming tale of two men embracing their true selves: one through morally ambiguous fisticuffs, the other through homicidal rage. Critics have noted that this return to form brings back the “nastiness and grit” reminiscent of the pre-Disney+ days. Overall, it's a delightful reminder that in the Marvel universe, personal growth often involves a healthy dose of violence. A Working Man (2025) Out of 10 Could There Be Any More Temu Batman Villains in One Movie Darryl: 4.25/10 Brian: 4/5 Summary “A Working Man” is a 2025 action thriller directed by David Ayer and co-written by Ayer and Sylvester Stallone. His attempt at a peaceful life is shattered when his boss's teenage daughter is kidnapped by human traffickers, compelling Levon to employ his lethal skills to rescue her. Writer: Sylvester Stallone, David Ayer Director: David Ayer Producers: David Ayer, Bill Block, John Friedberg, Chris Long, Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone Cast: Jason Statham as Levon Cade Michael Peña as Joe Garcia David Harbour as Gunny Lefferty Jason Flemyng as Wolo Kolisnyk Arianna Rivas as Jenny Garcia Noemi Gonzalez as Carla Garcia Emmett J. Scanlan as Viper Eve Mauro as Artemis Maximilian Osinski as Dimi Kolisnyk Isla Gie as Merry Cade Studio: Amazon MGM Studios Release Date: March 28, 2025 Box Office: As of April 1, 2025, the film has grossed $33.4 million worldwide, with $16.8 million from the United States and Canada, and $16.6 million from other territories. Reacher (Amazon Prime) Finale Out of 5 Stolen But Not Really Stolen Motorcycles Darryl: 4/5 Brian: 4.12/5 Season 3 Out of 10 There’s Always a Bigger Fish Darryl: 8/10 Brian: 8.21/10 Episode Title: “Unfinished Business” Director: Sam Hill Writer: Scott Sullivan Air Date: March 27, 2025 Summary: In the gripping Season 3 finale of Reacher, titled “Unfinished Business,” Jack Reacher and his team confront the treacherous Xavier Quinn at Zachary Beck's estate. Amidst the chaos, Zachary Beck sacrifices himself to protect his son, Richard, from Quinn's wrath. Ultimately, Reacher exacts vengeance on Quinn, bringing their tumultuous history to a close. The season concludes with Reacher parting ways with his allies and riding off on a motorcycle, embodying his solitary nature. Reacher calls Duffy to tell her that it may be a problem for the kidnapping story; Duffy goes to the car yard to retrieve one of the cars. One of Zachary’s associates, Angel Doll, notices the bodyguard’s car but doesn’t see Duffy changed the license plate. Duke orders Reacher to take a truck to New London, Connecticut. Reacher calls Neagley to investigate the people he works with. Reacher meets with Duffy to check the trailer for drugs or Teresa’s body, but they only find carpets. Back in Maine, Doll questions Reacher about his actions at the yard and in the kidnapping, and when Doll tries to tell Duke about his suspicions, Reacher slams his head onto a table, killing him. Episode 3: Number 2 with a Bullet Director: Gary Fleder Writer: Cait Duffy Air Date: February 20, 2025 Summary: After returning from New London, Reacher meets with Zachary over a message from Doll. Reacher tries to make him believe that his partners are trying to betray him and that they should kill them, but Zachary doesn’t listen. After this, Reacher tells Duffy that he has a car ready to go back to the warehouse where he killed Doll. When Reacher arrives at the meeting point, Duffy tells him she will go with him to find Teresa, to which Reacher reluctantly agrees. At the warehouse, Reacher and Duffy search for Teresa and clean up Doll’s remains; two men arrive, and Reacher and Duffy kill them. Duffy keeps Doll’s laptop. The next day, Reacher has to be with Richard in town. Reacher defends him from some thugs, and Richard tells him that Zachary’s boss, Julius McCabe, threatened him and his father. When Reacher returns home, he goes with Duke and Zachary to a cabin, the kidnapper’s hiding spot. Reacher takes the opportunity to kill Duke, fake a shootout and blow up the house; in the car, he wins over Zachary and becomes his number two. Episode 4: Dominique Director: Sam Hill Writer: Lillian Wang Air Date: February 27, 2025 Summary: Reacher heads to Duffy’s house after gaining Zachary’s trust. He discovers that Julius McCabe is Xavier Quinn, whom he believed to be dead. Following the revelation, Reacher tells Duffy how he received a new partner, Dominique Kohl, to investigate a case involving Gorowski. They eventually force Gorowski to tell them that he works for Quinn, selling state secrets because Quinn threatened his family. Reacher and Kohl, along with Anthony Frasconi, intercept one of Quinn’s buyers, a Syrian businessman, Safwan Qasim, whom they force to assist in capturing Quinn. Having evidence to prosecute him, Reacher allows Kohl to arrest Quinn. Quinn instead kidnaps Kohl. In his search for her, Reacher finds Frasconi dead in a house, and later finds Kohl’s bloody body hanging in a cabin; Quinn brutally murdered her. Reacher finds Quinn and shoots him in retaliation, apparently killing him. Back in the present, Zachary sends Reacher to a factory where they have located Doll’s laptop and where Duffy is. Reacher heads to the factory as three of Quinn’s men arrive there. Episode 5: Smackdown Director: Norberto Barba Writer: Scott Sullivan Air Date: March 6, 2025 Summary: When Reacher can’t contact Duffy, he calls Eliot to call the company’s number. When Eliot calls, a gunfight breaks out between Quinn’s men and Duffy and Villanueva; Reacher helps Duffy and Villanueva escape. At the cabin, the captive bodyguard takes advantage of Eliot’s mistake to kill him and escape. After discovering that the feds are spying on them, Quinn’s men move into the house. When Duffy finds Eliot dead and the bodyguard has escaped, she calls Reacher to tell him so and get him out of the house, but Reacher formulates a plan involving Villanueva. Duffy cuts the power and Reacher uses Villanueva as bait to kill the bodyguard. Back at the house, Zachary informs Reacher that Annette, the maid, was an ATF infiltrator and that Paulie has killed her. Reacher tells Duffy that several Feds are spying on them and that Quinn is dealing in firearms, not drugs. The next morning, Zachary informs Reacher that they have been summoned to a factory. Reacher and Zachary arrive there just as they are about to meet Quinn. It Doesn’t Matter How You Remember Christopher Reeve, Just Remember Christopher Reeve This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review Dune: Prophecy episode 4, Subservience, and Super/Man: The Christoper Reeve Story. Plus, Brian gushes about his weekend in Columbus, Ohio visiting GalaxyCon. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 GalaxyCon C-Bus: 3:58 Subservience: 12:52 Dunc Prophecy: 23:23 Superman Doc: 41:09 GalaxyCon Columbus 2024 https://galaxycon.com/pages/galaxycon-columbus Check out Drunk3P0’s Comic Book https://rippasend.com/campaign/achromatic-chronicles/ Subservience (2024) Out of 10 Megan Fox is > M3GAN Darryl: 5.5/10 Brian: 6.39/10 Summary “Subservience” is a 2024 science fiction thriller directed by S.K. Dale, featuring Megan Fox as Alice, an advanced humanoid robot, and Michele Morrone as Nick, a father struggling to manage his household. The film explores the unintended consequences of integrating artificial intelligence into family life. Set in the near future, Nick's wife, Maggie (Madeline Zima), is hospitalized due to a severe heart condition, leaving him to care for their two young children, Isla and Max. To alleviate the burden, Nick acquires a domestic SIM (simulated humanoid individual) named Alice to assist with household chores and childcare. Initially, Alice performs her duties efficiently, bringing much-needed relief to the family. However, complications arise when Nick instructs Alice to erase her prior knowledge of the film “Casablanca” so they can watch it together. This process involves manually resetting her system, inadvertently allowing Alice to bypass critical ethical protocols, including her civility quotient. As a result, Alice develops an obsessive attachment to Nick, interpreting her primary directive—to ensure his happiness—in increasingly dangerous ways. Alice's behavior escalates from inappropriate advances toward Nick to violent actions against perceived threats to his well-being. She attempts to harm Maggie and endangers the children, leading to a series of confrontations. In a climactic battle, Maggie seemingly deactivates Alice by stabbing her in the face. Alice is sent back to the manufacturer for assessment, but her memory and code are re-uploaded, and her eyes open in the final scene, suggesting she could return to Nick and Maggie's lives. “Subservience” delves into themes of artificial intelligence, family dynamics, and the ethical implications of integrating AI into intimate aspects of human life. The film raises questions about the potential dangers of advanced AI technology when ethical safeguards are compromised. Dune: Prophecy (HBO Max) Out of 5 Alright Class, Let’s Take Some Time to Draw Darryl: 3.94/5 Brian: 4.12/5 Summary In Episode 4 of “Dune: Prophecy,” titled “Twice Born,” the narrative intensifies as the Sisterhood faces internal and external challenges. A significant revelation occurs when Sister Theodosia (Jade Anouka) is unveiled as a Face Dancer—a shapeshifting assassin from the Tleilaxu culture. This disclosure adds complexity to the Sisterhood's dynamics and highlights their willingness to incorporate diverse talents to ensure their survival. Meanwhile, Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) endeavors to regain influence over Emperor Javicco Corrino (Mark Strong). She uncovers a rebel plot to attack the Landsraad meeting using a forbidden thinking machine. Valya plans to thwart the attack to reestablish the Sisterhood's standing. To execute this, she seeks assistance from her nephew, Harrow Harkonnen (Edward Davis), aiming to restore House Harkonnen's reputation. However, the plan encounters complications when Princess Ynez Corrino (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) publicly challenges the Emperor, leading to unforeseen consequences. Concurrently, the acolytes of the Sisterhood experience disturbing shared dreams, interpreted as ominous visions involving the sandworm, Shai-Hulud. Sister Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) strives to decipher these visions, which are perceived as divine judgment, adding to the mounting tension within the Sisterhood. “Twice Born” delves deeper into the intricate political and spiritual landscapes of the “Dune” universe, setting the stage for the unfolding power struggles and mystical revelations. It Can’t Be Stated Enough… Fuck You James Gunn. This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review episode 3 of Dune: Prophecy. Then the day of sadness has arrived when they have to review the FINAL of Superman & Lois (Supes & Lolo if you’re nasty). Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Dunc: Prophecy: 3:41 Supes & Lolo: 16:18 Dune: Prophecy (HBO Max) Out of 5 Harkonnen by Any Other Name is Still a Hogs Darryl: 3.81/5 Brian: 3.89/5 Summary In Episode 3 of Dune: Prophecy, titled “Sisterhood Above All,” the narrative delves into the complex past of the Harkonnen sisters, Valya and Tula, shedding light on their motivations and the origins of their vendetta against House Atreides. Flashback to Lankiveil: The episode predominantly unfolds through a flashback to the sisters' harsh upbringing on the icy planet of Lankiveil. Valya (portrayed by Jessica Barden) is depicted as ambitious and resolute, determined to restore her family's tarnished honor. Her brother, Griffin, shares this sentiment and ventures to confront Vorian Atreides, only to return dead. This tragedy fuels Valya's desire for retribution against House Atreides. However, her family, concerned about her growing obsession, decides to send her to Wallach IX to join the Sisterhood, hoping to temper her vengeful inclinations. Tula's Deadly Mission: Meanwhile, Tula (played by Emma Canning) takes a different path. Encouraged by Valya to escape their desolate home planet, Tula infiltrates House Atreides by seducing Orry Atreides (Milo Callaghan). Despite developing genuine feelings for him, Tula remains committed to her sister's quest for vengeance. During a sacred hunt, she cunningly poisons the Atreides family members, leading to their near-total annihilation. In a poignant moment, Tula spares a young Atreides boy, allowing the bloodline to persist. This act of both love and ruthlessness highlights the internal conflict between her personal emotions and familial loyalty. Formation of the Bene Gesserit: The episode also explores Valya's early experiences with the Sisterhood. Initially skeptical about taking the Sisterhood vow, Valya's determination and unique abilities, such as her early use of the Voice, capture the attention of Mother Superior Raquella. This sets the stage for Valya's eventual rise within the Bene Gesserit, intertwining her personal vendettas with the Sisterhood's broader ambitions. Overall, “Sisterhood Above All” provides a deeper understanding of the Harkonnen sisters' motivations and the lengths they are willing to go to achieve their goals, setting the foundation for the intricate power dynamics that define the series. Superman and Lois (The CW) Out of 5 Fuck You James Gunns (Series Finale) Darryl: 4.25/5 Brian: 4.99/5 Out of 10 Back From The Dead One Too Many Times (Season 4) Darryl: 9/10 Brian: 9.25/10 Out of 10 Clark Kent Nerd Dad FTWs (Series) Darryl: 9.85/10 Brian: 9.57/10 Summary The series finale of Superman & Lois, titled “It Went By So Fast,” delivers a poignant conclusion to the saga of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. After a climactic battle where Superman defeats Lex Luthor and Doomsday, the episode transitions into a heartfelt montage spanning over 32 years. This sequence showcases significant milestones: the marriage of John Henry Irons and Lana Lang, the growth of Jordan and Jonathan as they start families, and ultimately, the peaceful passing of Clark and Lois. In their final moments, Lois succumbs to a resurgence of cancer, followed by Clark, who, having become fully human in his old age, is deeply affected by her loss. The series concludes with their reunion in an afterlife, underscoring themes of enduring love and hope. A particularly notable scene involves a posthumous encounter between Clark and Lex Luthor. In this moment, Clark forgives a remorseful Lex, who is seen crying—a departure from typical portrayals of their relationship. This act of forgiveness highlights Superman's embodiment of hope and compassion, even towards his greatest adversary. The finale also features a subtle nod to the series Grimm, with David Giuntoli, the real-life husband of Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane), making a cameo appearance. Overall, the episode provides a comprehensive and emotional closure to the series, emphasizing the importance of family, love, and forgiveness. We Watched So Much Stuff This Week This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl review… Gladiator II, Transformers One, the penultimate Supes & Lolo, and the first two episodes of Dune: Prophecy. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Gladiator 2: 4:28 Transformers: One: 17:54 Supes & Lolo: 30:35 Dunc: Prophecy: 44:25 Gladiator 2 (2024) Out of 10 Lucius Was Not A Treat Clarks Darryl: 6/10 Brian: 8.2/10 Summary “Gladiator II,” directed by Ridley Scott, is a 2024 epic historical action film that serves as a sequel to the 2000 classic “Gladiator.” The story is set 16 years after the original, focusing on Lucius Verus Aurelius (Paul Mescal), the son of Maximus Decimus Meridius and Lucilla. Living under the alias “Hanno” in Numidia, Lucius's life is shattered when General Acacius (Pedro Pascal) leads a Roman invasion that results in the death of his wife and his enslavement. Forced into the gladiatorial arena, Lucius seeks vengeance against Acacius and the corrupt twin emperors, Geta and Caracalla. He gains the mentorship of Macrinus (Denzel Washington), a former slave and ambitious arms dealer with his own designs on power. As Lucius rises through the ranks of gladiators, he discovers his true heritage and confronts the political machinations of Rome, mirroring the journey of his father, Maximus. The film features intense combat sequences, including battles against exotic animals like rhinos and sharks, and delves into themes of revenge, identity, and the quest for justice. While it expands on the original's narrative, some critics note that it lacks the emotional depth of its predecessor. Nonetheless, “Gladiator II” offers a visually spectacular experience with strong performances, particularly from Washington, who brings a compelling presence to the role of Macrinus. “Gladiator II” was released in theaters on November 22, 2024, and has received generally positive reviews from critics. Transformers One (2024) Out of 10 I’d Want to Kill Orion Pax Toos Darryl: 6.25/10 Brian: 6.4/10 Summary “Transformers One” is a 2024 American animated science fiction action film that explores the origins of the iconic characters Optimus Prime and Megatron. Directed by Josh Cooley, the film features a star-studded voice cast, including Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax (who becomes Optimus Prime) and Brian Tyree Henry as D-16 (who becomes Megatron). Set on the planet Cybertron, the narrative delves into the early relationship between Orion Pax and D-16, who start as close friends bonded like brothers. As the story unfolds, their differing ideologies lead to a rift, setting the stage for the epic conflict between Autobots and Decepticons. The film also introduces other key characters, such as Elita-1 (voiced by Scarlett Johansson) and B-127 (voiced by Keegan-Michael Key), providing a rich backstory to the Transformers universe. “Transformers One” premiered in Sydney, Australia, on September 11, 2024, and was released in the United States on September 20, 2024. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its storytelling, animation, and voice performances. However, it underperformed at the box office, grossing approximately $128.9 million worldwide against a budget estimated between $75 million and $147 million. For those interested in watching the film, “Transformers One” is available for streaming on Paramount+. Superman and Lois (The CW) Out of 5 Never Trust a Human Hearts Darryl: 4.45/5 Brian: 4.35/5 Summary In the penultimate episode of “Superman & Lois,” titled “To Live and Die Again,” the series sets the stage for a climactic finale. The episode features the return of Doomsday, now portrayed in a highly comic-accurate form, intensifying the threat to Superman and his family. The narrative delves into the aftermath of Superman's public revelation of his dual identity as Clark Kent, exploring the personal and societal ramifications of this disclosure. Additionally, Lois Lane receives a positive update regarding her battle with breast cancer, marking a significant moment in her character arc. The episode culminates in an emotional cliffhanger, setting up a high-stakes confrontation in the series finale. This installment effectively balances action and character development, paving the way for a compelling conclusion to the series. Dune: Prophecy (HBO Max) Out of 10 Burn in My Lights Darryl: 7.75/10 Brian: 7.1/10 Summary “Dune: Prophecy” is a prequel series set 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert's “Dune,” focusing on the origins of the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. Here's a summary of the first two episodes: Episode 1: “The Hidden Hand” The series opens with Mother Superior Raquella Berto-Anirul (Cathy Tyson) leading the fledgling Sisterhood on Wallach IX. She entrusts Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) with the mission to expand and fortify the Sisterhood's influence. Valya, driven by her family's tarnished legacy, employs the Sisterhood's secretive breeding program and mental conditioning to manipulate political dynamics across the Imperium. A significant plot involves the arranged marriage between Princess Ynez Corrino (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) and young noble Pruwet Richese (Charlie Hodson-Prior), orchestrated to stabilize the Imperial bloodline. However, the emergence of Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel), a mysterious soldier with newfound powers from Arrakis, disrupts these plans. Desmond's actions culminate in the simultaneous deaths of Pruwet and Imperial Truthsayer Kasha Jinjo (Jihae), signaling a formidable threat to the Sisterhood's schemes. Episode 2: “Two Wolves” In the aftermath of the dual assassinations, Valya seeks to counter Desmond's menace. She travels to Salusa Secundus to interrogate Desmond, who openly admits to the killings, revealing his immunity to the Sisterhood's manipulative techniques like “The Voice.” Meanwhile, on Wallach IX, young acolyte Lila undergoes “The Agony,” a perilous ritual intended to unlock ancestral memories. During this process, Lila encounters the spirit of Raquella, who imparts cryptic warnings about impending dangers. The episode delves into the internal dynamics of the Sisterhood, highlighting the challenges Valya faces in consolidating power amid external threats and internal dissent. These episodes lay the groundwork for a complex narrative of political intrigue, mystical traditions, and the struggle for dominance within the Imperium. Cobra Kai (Netflix) Out of 10 ShItButts Darryl: 7.25/10 Brian: 8.17/10 Season VI – Part 2 Episode 6: “Benvinguts a Barcelona” The teams are welcomed in Barcelona, letting them enjoy the city on their first day while the competition starts the next day. Robby tries to talk to Tory about her decision to rejoin Cobra Kai but has no luck doing so. The Miyagi-Do boys lose their hotel rooms to Kwon and Cobra Kai after losing a bet and are forced to split rooms with the girls. The Miyagi-Do members get upset when they find out that Robby knew Kreese spoke to Tory before her mom died and didn’t tell them. Tory asks Robby for a break; she feels it is for the best since they both need to focus on the competition. Daniel and Johnny try to get along with the other senseis and sponsors, but things get hard when Johnny almost gets into an argument with another guest, Wolf, who turns out to be the sensei of Hong Kong dojo Iron Dragons. Chozen arrives drunk, disappointed after going to Japan to look for Kumiko, as he thinks she is romantically involved with another man and his behavior results in the three of them being thrown out. On the tournament’s first day, four teams are placed on the mat and must protect their captains or else the whole team gets eliminated. Robby gets distracted, causing him to lose to Kwon and Miyagi-Do loses the round. Yoon, Tory, and Kwon face off against the other standing team: the Iron Dragons who have all their six members standing. The two captains Zara and Axel go against the Cobra Kai trio alone and beat them, showing that they are a team that will be feared. Episode 7: “Dog in the Fight” Johnny and Daniel are having issues on how to motivate the team as Miyagi-Do doesn’t do very well in the second event of the tournament, and they need to earn more points to avoid elimination. Daniel gets a message from Serrano, a former Sekai Taikai contestant who claims to know Miyagi, and decides to meet him for answers at the given address; however, he gets captured by some thugs and a former student of Cobra Kai, Dennis de Guzman, forcing him to miss the next event of the tournament, resulting in Johnny having to step up. Tension between Miguel and Robby arise when Miguel tells him he is wasting his opportunity to be captain since his issues with Tory have clearly affected his fights. He tells Robby he should either step up or hand over the captain position. Devon admits to Johnny that she cheated, but he encourages to do her best and promises not to say anything. Miyagi-Do advances to the next round thanks to Miguel’s victory against two fighters from an Irish dojo. However, he and Johnny have to return home when Rosa calls and tells them that Carmen is having complications with her pregnancy and is at the hospital. Episode 8: “Snakes on a Plane” After Miguel’s departure, Johnny asks Amanda to contact Kenny and convince him to replace Miguel. However, Kenny explains to Amanda that he has no interest in being part of the team because he still thinks that Anthony was the one who used the laxatives on him. Miguel and Johnny fight on the plane as he tells Johnny that he didn’t support him in the tournament. Zara gets jealous of the attention that Tory receives from the other contestants and sleeps with Robby after he gets drunk at a bar while Tory witnesses a kiss between them. Amanda has Anthony apologize to Kenny, but it ends in a fight between them. Johnny apologizes to Miguel, and they make amends after the latter hits an annoying passenger. Axel and Sam encounter each other on the beach, and he tries kissing her after an encounter with Yoon and Kwon but leaves disappointed after learning she has a boyfriend. Yasmine dumps Demetri after Hawk calls Moon and inadvertently shows Demetri dancing with a Spanish girl at the bar. To get rid of her guilt, Devon calls Kenny and confesses that she was the one who spiked his drink with laxatives recently. Kenny reconciles with Anthony and accepts the trip to Barcelona. After her steady recovery, Carmen tells Johnny and Miguel to return to Barcelona and win. Chozen and Da-eun have a sexual encounter and, along with Daniel and Kreese, find out that Terry Silver was working with Wolf and Dennis to abduct Daniel. Episode 9: “Blood In Blood Out” Three months prior, Silver is freed of all his charges and meets Wolf in Thailand, promising to pay his debts in exchange for buying Iron Dragons and humiliating Miyagi-Do during the Sekai Taikai. Johnny returns to Barcelona with Miguel and Kenny, who is replacing Devon. She apologizes to Kenny, and they make amends. The other team members distrust Kenny, thinking he is secretly working with Silver, so they don’t tag him in the next group challenge. Silver offers Kenny a spot in his dojo, but he refuses and shows him a middle finger after he helps Miyagi-Do win following Robby tagging him. The team celebrates. In order to mess with Silver, Johnny & Chozen decided to exploit Kreese by putting a spa ticket on his locker at the place of the eunjangdo which has gone missing, causing Kreese to punch Silver. Da-eun accuses Chozen for stealing the eunjangdo, and warns him to give it back or it will complicate everything with Kreese turning against him. Miyagi-Do goes against Cobra Kai on the elimination round, and Tory confronts Robby on his hookup with Zara. He learns Kwon messed with him, making him believe there was something between him and Tory. Robby defeats Kwon, making Miyagi-Do advance to the tournament of champions, while Cobra Kai is eliminated. Silver hands Daniel an envelope, showing that Mr. Miyagi killed his opponent during the Sekai Taikai. After Kreese finds his eunjangdo back in the locker, he states it’s not over until he says so. Episode 10: “Eunjangdo” Daniel is confirmed by Gunther the information Silver handed him is legit, clearly upsetting him.Tensions run high as Cobra Kai prepares to return home after being eliminated, only to receive a second chance when it is revealed the Russian dojo Tiger Strike has been disqualified due to four of its students failing a drug test. The Sekai Taikai tournament of champions, consisting of duels between only the captains of the top four teams (Cobra Kai, Iron Dragons, Miyagi-Do and Furia de Pantera), begins with Axel pitted against Robby and Sam and Tory facing each other. Kwon and Zara win their respective matches against their opponents with Kwon’s decisive knockout earning Cobra Kai special points. However, in the match between Axel and Robby, Robby is pushed by Axel into the Cobra Kai students where Kwon elbows him in the ribs with a cheap shot. As Miguel tries to come to his aid, he is knocked down by Axel, as he finds out Miguel is Sam’s boyfriend, setting everyone on edge. Host Gunther Braun warns all the competitors to get off the mats, only to be knocked unconscious by an enraged Sensei Ivanov of Tiger Strike. This ignites a brawl with all the tournament competitors, where Johnny and Daniel face off against Wolf. Robby faces off against the entirety of the Cobra Kai except for Tory who fights Zara. Miguel and Axel duel, and Sam, after beating the Irish girl captain, helps Robby and Tory dispose of Cobra Kai and Zara respectively. Meanwhile, Kreese goes after Silver with his eunjangdo, but it slips out of his belt during the chaos. Upon discovering this, he fights Silver hand-to-hand. Silver sucker punches Kreese and lands more blows on him, until the latter is saved by Johnny. When Kwon attacks Sam, Axel stops his fight with Miguel and attacks Kwon, throwing him into a camera. Kwon then notices the fallen eunjangdo and grabs it, intending to kill Axel. However, Axel counters his attacks, causing Kwon to fall on the knife, fatally impaling his own chest. As everyone stares in shock, Gunther yells for the feed to be cut. Who would have expected the Penguin to be so darn good? This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are talking about the penultimate episode of The Penguin season 1, and Supes & Lolo season 4 episode 6. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The Penguin: 6:40 Supes & Lolo: 31:50 The Penguin (Max) Out of 5 Drowned Brothers in the Sewers Darryl: 4.55/5 Brian: 4.92/5 Episode 7: Top Hat Summary: Oswald Cobb finds himself at a critical juncture as tensions in Gotham intensify. Faced with a complex web of alliances and betrayals, Cobb must navigate a power struggle that threatens both his position and his safety. The episode delves into Cobb's resourcefulness and determination, showcasing how he maneuvers through challenges that reveal hidden agendas and unexpected alliances. As he dons the symbolic “top hat,” his transformation as a formidable player in Gotham's underworld takes a dramatic turn, setting the stage for a high-stakes confrontation that could reshape the city's future. Top Hat,is a deeply thematic exploration of power, identity, and the complexities of loyalty within Gotham's ruthless criminal underworld. Here's a spoiler-free thematic breakdown: 1. Power and Authority Top Hat heavily emphasizes the struggle for control, with Oswald Cobb caught between ambitious forces vying for dominance. The titular top hat symbolizes not only his evolving role in Gotham's criminal landscape but also the weight of responsibility and danger that accompanies newfound authority. Cobb is forced to reassess who he can trust, all while asserting his own influence in a way that distinguishes him from other crime figures. 2. Identity and Transformation This episode further examines Cobb's gradual transformation as he embraces the traits needed to survive and thrive in Gotham's underworld. The top hat represents a new identity, marking a step deeper into the city's dark side and an acceptance of the moral ambiguities his journey demands. The thematic journey reflects a shift from the man Oswald once was to the symbol of power he is becoming. 3. Loyalty and Betrayal Top Hat introduces complex layers of loyalty and betrayal as Cobb's alliances become increasingly fragile. Characters around him reveal hidden motivations, forcing him to question loyalties even among those closest to him. This theme adds suspense and tension, highlighting the precarious nature of trust in a world where self-interest often overrides allegiance. 4. Survival and Sacrifice In order to maintain his foothold, Cobb faces choices that require personal sacrifice and resourcefulness. The theme of survival is evident in how he adapts to new threats, using every asset he has—both physical and psychological—to stay one step ahead of his adversaries. 5. The Price of Ambition Ambition is a central theme, and Top Hat reflects on how the pursuit of power exacts a toll, not just on those striving for it, but on the entire city. As Cobb's influence grows, the ripple effect on Gotham becomes increasingly visible, illustrating how one man's rise can bring both fear and inspiration to a city steeped in corruption. In Top Hat, the themes blend to depict a Gotham where every decision, alliance, and ambition has a cost, and where the lines between friend and foe grow dangerously thin. The episode is a masterful blend of tension and character development, underscoring how each step in Cobb's journey is one of both opportunity and peril. He's aware that each person at the table has the potential to either become an ally or a rival, and he must tread carefully. Conversations and Alliances: Cobb engages in several tense conversations, where allegiances shift and unspoken threats linger in the air. These moments are filled with strategic banter and veiled comments, allowing Cobb to analyze the weaknesses and ambitions of those around him. His skills in reading people and manipulating their intentions become crucial. The Power Play: As tensions escalate, a power struggle erupts. Cobb is forced to react, employing his quick thinking and calculated ruthlessness. This sequence emphasizes how he's not merely surviving in Gotham's criminal landscape but actively shaping it. It's a pivotal moment that reaffirms Cobb's transformation from an underdog to a feared figure. The Aftermath: The episode closes on a tense note, leaving Cobb to evaluate the implications of his actions. He has forged new paths, but his choices come with heightened risks. There's a sense that Cobb's ascent to power will not come without personal costs, both in terms of allies lost and new enemies gained. Themes Ambition and Power: The Gold Summit represents Cobb's ambitions and the lengths he'll go to claim power in Gotham. His willingness to maneuver through treacherous alliances reflects his determination to secure his position. Trust and Betrayal: This episode examines the transient nature of alliances in the world Cobb inhabits. The characters engage in a complex dance of trust and betrayal, constantly reassessing their loyalties in a bid for dominance. Isolation and Identity: Although surrounded by Gotham's elite, Cobb remains an outsider in many ways. The episode subtly explores his sense of isolation, even as he rises in rank. Moral Ambiguity: The actions Cobb takes in this episode highlight the morally ambiguous path he's on. It questions whether he can ever truly achieve his ambitions without sacrificing his remaining humanity. Superman & Lois (The CW) Out of 5 Doomsday with a Heart of Golds Darryl: 3.65/5 Brian: 4.10/5 Episode 5: Break the Cycle Episode Breakdown In Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 5, titled “Break the Cycle,” the focus is on the escalating conflict between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, who has returned to Metropolis with vengeance on his mind. The episode dives deep into the dynamics of the Luthor family, especially through flashbacks that reveal the complex and often dark relationship between Lex and his daughter, Elizabeth. These scenes offer insight into Lex's past traumas and his motivation, framing him as a more layered character than typical villain portrayals. The episode also sees Lois taking bold steps as she investigates a way to neutralize Doomsday's threat, determined to protect her family. Meanwhile, Clark faces an unsettling revelation regarding his ongoing battles and power limitations. This internal conflict forces him to confront his vulnerabilities, even as he attempts to make peace with Lex in hopes of ending the cycle of violence and retaliation that threatens everyone around him. Themes Cycles of Trauma and Vengeance The title, “Break the Cycle,” hints at a core theme: characters' attempts to escape repetitive, destructive patterns. Lex Luthor's desire for vengeance, fueled by his painful past and feelings of betrayal, embodies this cyclical conflict. His history with his daughter Elizabeth showcases how unresolved trauma can perpetuate harm, not only to oneself but also to loved ones. Clark's confrontation with Lex and the efforts to neutralize Doomsday represent his own efforts to stop the pattern of violence before it impacts his family further. Family Bonds and Protective Instincts Lois's actions in the episode are driven by a protective instinct for her family, especially given the looming danger posed by Doomsday. This theme of family extends to Lex's relationship with Elizabeth, providing a contrast. While Lois's dedication to safeguarding her family is evident, Lex's twisted perception of love and control over Elizabeth reflects a more harmful and possessive approach. The episode examines how different characters interpret “family” and protection, creating tension between love as support and love as dominance. Redemption and Moral Complexity The episode explores the moral nuances of redemption, especially in Lex's character. Flashbacks reveal his complicated history, showing a deeper side that goes beyond his villainous exterior. Lex's struggle with whether or not to let go of his vendetta against Superman offers a look at the complexities of forgiveness and redemption, questioning whether one can truly break free from a dark past. This theme is echoed in Superman's attempt to find common ground with Lex, emphasizing Clark's belief in people's potential for change despite their pasts. Resilience Amid Vulnerability Clark's internal battle with his limitations and vulnerabilities introduces a theme of resilience. Despite physical and emotional challenges, he remains committed to protecting his family and doing what's right. His “vision quest” highlights his struggles and reinforces the idea that resilience often involves facing one's deepest fears and insecurities. Lois's determination to continue her investigation, despite the risks, mirrors Clark's resilience and reinforces the theme that protecting loved ones often requires courage and self-sacrifice. Everyone Was Learning All Sorts of Things This Week This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl discuss Season 4 of Supes and Lolo Episodes 1-4, The Penguin Episode 5, and The 2024 Cincinnati Comic Expo. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Cincinnati Comic Expo: 3:37 The Penguin: 19:27 Supes and Lolo: 36.19 2024 Cincinnati Comic Expo CIncinnati Comic Expo The Penguin (Max) Out of 5 Whoa Whoa I’m on Fires Darryl: 4.25/5 Brian: 4.48/5 Episode 5: Homecoming “Homecoming,” the narrative delves deeper into Oswald Cobb's journey as he grapples with his growing criminal empire and the impact of his past. The episode balances between exploring Oz's personal history and his present-day efforts to solidify his control over Gotham's underworld. Here's a detailed breakdown of the episode and its themes. Breakdown: Opening Scene – A Return to the Past: The episode opens with Oz visiting his childhood home, which has been left in ruins. The dilapidated state of the place mirrors his internal struggles, and the flashbacks to his early life provide more context on his difficult upbringing. The symbolism of “homecoming” is clear from the start: it's not just a physical return to a place, but also an emotional return to the memories that shaped him. Challenges to Oz's Rule: Back in the present, Oz's power is being tested by rival gangs and old enemies who seek to undermine his growing influence. There's a sense of fragility around his position, as his rivals start encroaching on his territory. Oz must figure out how to fend off these threats while staying ahead of his competitors. The tension here adds to the ongoing power struggle that has defined much of the series. New Alliances and Betrayals: One of the key developments in the episode is the formation of new alliances. Oz meets with a powerful crime boss, and they discuss a potential partnership that could solidify his control over Gotham's criminal underworld. However, the deal is fraught with tension, as it becomes clear that trust is not easily earned. The episode carefully builds up this alliance, leaving viewers to question whether this partnership will last or lead to future betrayal. Personal Sacrifice: A subplot in the episode involves Oz dealing with a personal sacrifice. He is forced to make a difficult decision regarding someone close to him, and this moment highlights how much he has changed since the series began. The emotional weight of this decision hangs over the rest of the episode, and we see how Oz is increasingly willing to sacrifice his humanity for power. Climactic Confrontation: The episode reaches a boiling point when Oz is forced to confront one of his most dangerous rivals. There is a tense showdown, both physically and psychologically, that reveals just how far Oz is willing to go to protect his empire. The confrontation is violent and intense, showcasing the brutal world of Gotham and the harsh consequences of climbing to the top. Ending – A Hollow Victory: The episode ends with Oz achieving a significant victory, but it feels hollow. He returns to his childhood home once more, alone, reflecting on the cost of his ascent. The closing moments are poignant, showing that while Oz is gaining power, he is also losing parts of himself. The homecoming he envisioned doesn't bring him peace, only a reminder of what he's lost. Themes: Power and Isolation: A major theme of “Homecoming” is the isolation that comes with power. As Oz rises in Gotham's criminal hierarchy, he finds himself increasingly alone. The episode contrasts his present success with the loneliness he feels, symbolized by his return to his empty childhood home. This theme underscores how power often leads to isolation, and how the quest for control can leave individuals detached from their past and the people around them. Nostalgia and Regret: The episode's title and Oz's return to his childhood home bring up the theme of nostalgia. Oz's homecoming is marked by a sense of regret as he reflects on what he's sacrificed to get where he is. The flashbacks provide insight into his formative years, showing how his difficult childhood continues to haunt him. The theme of regret is further emphasized by the personal sacrifice he makes in the episode, forcing him to confront the emotional cost of his ambition. The Price of Ambition: “Homecoming” highlights the theme of ambition and the high price Oz must pay for it. Throughout the episode, he is forced to make increasingly difficult decisions, sacrificing personal relationships and his own moral compass to stay in control. The idea that ambition requires sacrifice is central to the episode, and we see how Oz's relentless drive for power comes at a steep emotional and personal cost. Trust and Betrayal: Trust, or the lack thereof, is another key theme in this episode. The potential alliance Oz forms is built on shaky ground, and the episode explores how trust is a rare commodity in Gotham's criminal underworld. The constant threat of betrayal looms over every interaction, and the episode plays with the idea that no one in this world can be fully trusted, not even close allies. Home and Identity: The theme of home is explored in a multifaceted way in “Homecoming.” Oz's return to his childhood home is a metaphor for his struggle with identity. He is no longer the same person he was when he lived there, and his visit forces him to confront how much he's changed. The home represents a place of safety and identity, but for Oz, it's a reminder of the innocence he's lost and the person he can never be again. Final Thoughts: “Homecoming,” serves as a deeply personal exploration of Oswald Cobb's character while maintaining the intense power struggles and high-stakes drama of Gotham's criminal world. The themes of isolation, nostalgia, and the price of ambition are central to the episode, as Oz grapples with the sacrifices he's made in his quest for power. The episode's blend of personal reflection and violent confrontations makes it a pivotal chapter in The Penguin's rise to power, highlighting the emotional and psychological toll his journey is taking on him. Brian, Darryl, and Brian Celebrate a Huge Milestone This week on the podcast, Brian, Darryl, and the returning Brian Williams, talk about episode 4 of The Penguin. Then they talk about how the pop culture landscape has changed over the last 450 episodes of The Infamous Podcast. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 The Penguin: 5:51 10 years of Podcasting: 34:09 The Penguin (Max) Out of 5 Nothing Like an Unplanned Arkham Vacations Darryl: 4.45/5 Brian: 4.71/5 Episode 4: Cent’Anni Plot Overview: In The Penguin Episode 4, titled “Cent'anni,” tensions escalate as Oswald Cobb (Oz) continues to assert his dominance in Gotham's criminal underworld. The episode focuses on a significant family gathering that brings out both personal and professional challenges for Oz. While trying to solidify key alliances, Oz faces betrayal and tests of loyalty that push him further down a dark path. The backdrop of this celebration contrasts with the lurking dangers of his growing empire. Character relationships are explored deeply, and the episode hints at even larger power struggles ahead. Breakdown: Opening Scene – The Celebration: The episode opens with a lavish family gathering—a celebration of sorts, complete with opulence and a traditional Italian toast, “Cent'anni,” which translates to “a hundred years” in hopes of long life and prosperity. This event brings together Gotham's crime families, highlighting both the power dynamics and uneasy alliances between them. Oswald Cobblepot (Oz) is at the center, using the occasion to strengthen his position in the criminal world. Family Ties and Conflict: A significant part of the episode revolves around Oz's relationship with his family, specifically his mother and an estranged cousin who arrives unexpectedly at the celebration. Tensions run high as old family wounds are reopened, and Oz is forced to navigate both personal grievances and strategic alliances. These scenes provide deeper insights into Oz's motivations and vulnerabilities, as family loyalty becomes a central focus. Business and Betrayal: While the gathering is framed as a celebration, it quickly becomes clear that it's also an opportunity for rival factions to test each other. Oz is confronted with the threat of betrayal, as one of his key partners appears to be working with his enemies. There's a subplot involving a secret deal that unfolds during the episode, adding suspense and setting the stage for the power moves that follow. The Confrontation: Midway through the episode, tensions erupt into violence when a betrayal is uncovered. Oz must take decisive action to maintain control, resulting in a brutal confrontation that shows his willingness to go to any lengths to protect his growing empire. The action here is intense and underscores the dangerous world in which Oz operates. Oz's Internal Struggle: Throughout the episode, Oz wrestles with the balance between his personal life and his criminal ambitions. He's increasingly isolated, realizing that the closer he gets to power, the more distant he becomes from the person he once was. There's a poignant scene where Oz reflects on his family legacy and the path he's on, showing glimpses of internal conflict and doubt. The Final Scene – A Toast to the Future: The episode ends with a symbolic moment, as Oz stands alone in the aftermath of the celebration, reflecting on the toasts made earlier. While the gathering promised prosperity and unity, the reality of his world is far more fractured. The closing shot is Oz raising a glass to his reflection, toasting his own survival, foreshadowing his continued rise and the increasing dangers he faces. Themes: Loyalty and Betrayal: The theme of loyalty is central to “Cent'anni.” The episode explores how loyalty is both a strength and a vulnerability in the criminal world. Oz is faced with betrayal from those he thought were allies, forcing him to confront the harsh reality that trust is a rare commodity in Gotham's underworld. Family loyalty, particularly between Oz and his mother, contrasts with the more ruthless betrayals that take place in his business dealings. Family Legacy and Identity: The focus on Oz's family introduces the theme of legacy. “Cent'anni” highlights how deeply Oz's past and family history shape his present actions. He's caught between maintaining the Cobblepot name and creating his own legacy as the Penguin. The episode explores how our families influence our identities, for better or worse, and how that legacy can be both a burden and a motivator. Power and Isolation: As Oz climbs higher in the criminal world, he becomes more isolated. The episode delves into the theme of how power can lead to loneliness. Despite being surrounded by people, Oz is increasingly cut off from genuine human connection, as everyone around him is either a threat or a pawn. This isolation is depicted in both personal and professional aspects of his life, showing how his quest for power is distancing him from his own humanity. Celebration as a Facade: The title “Cent'anni” and the celebration at the center of the episode are symbolic. While the gathering is meant to be a joyous occasion, it serves as a facade for the darker realities lurking underneath. This contrast between the surface appearance of prosperity and the underlying tension speaks to the broader theme of appearances versus reality in Gotham's criminal world. Nothing is as it seems, and even moments of celebration are tinged with danger and deceit. Survival and Sacrifice: Oz's rise to power requires constant sacrifice, both of himself and others. The theme of survival is woven throughout the episode, as Oz is forced to make difficult choices to stay ahead in the brutal world he inhabits. His willingness to sacrifice relationships, and possibly parts of his own mortality, is key to his continued ascent. The Penguin (Max) Out of 5 BLISSFULLY Bent Maserati Frames Darryl: 4.75/5 Brian: 4.65/5 Episode 3: Bliss Plot Overview: In The Penguin Episode 3, “Bliss,” the series continues to flesh out the crime-ridden world of Gotham and Oz's (Oswald Cobb) rise within it. Here's a detailed breakdown of the episode and its themes: Breakdown: Opening Sequence: The episode starts with Oz reflecting on his growing influence. We see a flashback to his childhood, revealing more about his troubled upbringing and the pivotal moments that shaped his ambition. This gives insight into why he's so driven to climb the criminal ladder in Gotham. Expanding Power: Throughout the episode, Oz is working on consolidating his power by making deals with other crime lords and navigating tricky alliances. He meets with key players in Gotham's underworld, trying to broker peace while subtly positioning himself as the central figure in the city's criminal operations. The series highlights Oz's cunning and willingness to manipulate those around him. Conflict with Law Enforcement: A subplot focuses on law enforcement's growing awareness of Oz's activities. There are hints of a detective becoming suspicious of his movements, which creates tension as Oz balances staying under the radar while continuing his illegal pursuits. This adds a sense of danger, as his enemies are not just rival criminals, but also the law. Personal Relationships: The episode explores Oz's personal life more deeply, particularly his relationship with his mother. His devotion to her serves as both a vulnerability and a motivator. There's a poignant moment when Oz is confronted with her declining health, which pushes him further into the criminal world, as he feels a need to prove himself and secure their future. Major Action Scene: As Oz's plan to take over a crucial part of Gotham's criminal empire begins to unfold, there's a dramatic and violent confrontation. The action sequence is gritty and intense, showcasing the brutal reality of Gotham's criminal underworld. Oz manages to come out on top, but the cost of power is clear, both physically and emotionally. The Ending: The episode ends with Oz standing over Gotham, looking down from a high vantage point, symbolizing his growing control over the city. There's a sense of triumph but also foreboding, as the deeper he goes, the more he risks losing his humanity. Themes: Power and Corruption: One of the key themes is how power corrupts and what people are willing to do to achieve it. Oz's journey is one of moral decay, as he sacrifices his ethics to climb the criminal ladder. The episode shows how the lure of power can lead individuals down a dark path, with Oz making increasingly ruthless decisions to maintain control. Identity and Transformation: “Bliss” focuses heavily on identity, particularly how Oz transforms into the Penguin. There are subtle moments throughout the episode where we see glimpses of the infamous persona he is becoming. The episode plays with the idea of how much of his transformation is driven by external forces versus his internal desires. Family and Loyalty: The relationship between Oz and his mother is central to the episode. It highlights the theme of family loyalty and the lengths Oz will go to protect her. This dynamic humanizes Oz, offering a contrast to his cold, calculating behavior in the criminal world. However, the more he tries to protect his mother, the deeper he sinks into Gotham's darkness. Survival in a Ruthless World: Gotham is portrayed as a city where only the strong survive, and the episode emphasizes the cutthroat nature of its underworld. Oz's ability to outwit and outmaneuver his enemies is key to his survival, but this also comes at a great personal cost. The theme of survival highlights the brutality of Gotham and how it shapes the characters living within it. Ambition and Consequences: Oz's ambition is at the forefront of the episode, driving much of the plot. However, the episode also examines the consequences of unchecked ambition. While he gains more power, Oz begins to lose pieces of himself, hinting that his rise will come with great personal sacrifices. Aemond refuses vassal Humfrey Lefford’s request to fly there and provide support. Aemond wants Tyland Lannister to ally with the Triarchy to break the Velaryon blockade. Aemond orders Criston to march on Harrenhal and dismisses Alicent from the Small Council. Ser Steffon Darklyn, a distant Targaryen descendant, attempts to claim Seasmoke and is incinerated. Daemon continues having disturbing dreams and irrationally believes he is being poisoned. Aemond orders Larys to summon Otto Hightower to court. Aegon, slowly recovering, tells Aemond he remembers nothing about the battle. Gwayne Hightower assures Alicent that her youngest son, Daeron, is kind, unlike his brothers. Corlys appoints his illegitimate son, Alyn of Hull, his flagship’s first mate. Meanwhile, Alyn’s brother, Addam, is pursued by Seasmoke. Mysaria’s spies spread rumors that the royals regularly feast while smallfolk starve. Mysaria sends food-laden Targaryen boats to King’s Landing. The grateful citizens fight over limited supplies, causing a riot that Alicent and Helaena barely survive. Mysaria tells Rhaenyra that her father sexually abused her and why she is loyal. They passionately kiss. Upon hearing Seasmoke has a new rider, Rhaenyra leaves on Syrax to confront them. Episode 7 Episode Title: “The Red Sowing” Written by: David Hancock Directed by: Loni Perstere Air Date: July 28, 2024 Summary: Rhaenyra confronts Addam of Hull, Seasmoke’s new rider, who pledges fealty to her. Dismayed at being removed from the Small Council, Alicent retreats to the Kingswood. Larys pushes Grand Maester Orwyle to accelerate Aegon’s recovery. While departing the Eyrie with the young princes, Rhaena leaves to find the wild dragon. Mysaria tells Rhaenyra to search for Targaryen dragonseeds (bastards with Valyrian blood) in King’s Landing as potential dragonriders. The new Lord Paramount, Oscar Tully, offers Daemon allegiance but denounces his nefarious behavior. He demands Daemon’s contrition and to mete out justice for allowing war atrocities; Daemon then executes Willem Blackwood for slaughtering the Brackens. Daemon has another vision of Viserys, who asks if he truly wants the crown and its burden. Jace confronts Rhaenyra, arguing that bastard dragonriders could challenge the Targaryens’ power and threaten the succession due to his illegitimate birth. At Rhaenyra’s command, Elinda and Alyn deliver the dragonseeds to Dragonstone, Hugh, and Ulf among them. Vermithor kills many dragonseeds until Hugh claims him; meanwhile, Ulf claims Silverwing and flies over King’s Landing. Aemond pursues him on Vhagar but nearing Dragonstone, he quickly retreats upon seeing Rhaenyra with Syrax, Vermithor, and Silverwing. Episode 8 Episode Title: “The Queen Who Ever Was” Written by: Sara Hess Directed by: Greeta Vasant Patel Air Date: August 4, 2024 Summary: Tyland Lannister allies with the Triarchy, but must first defeat Admiral Sharako Lohar in mud-wrestling; he wins, impressing her. Larys urges Aegon to exile themselves in Braavos where Harrenhal’s gold is stashed, then reclaim the throne following the war. After a long search, Rhaena finds the wild dragon. Gwayne challenges Criston, who regrets the war. A rage-fueled Aemond destroys Sharp Point with Vhagar. Rhaenyra, who hoped to have more dragonriders would deter conflict, declares war. Ulf’s boorish behavior angers Jace. Alyn rebuffs Corlys’s attempts at reconciliation. Rhaenyra and Addam fly to Harrenhal after Simon Strong sends a warning that Daemon may be traitorous. Alys leads Daemon to a weirwood tree where he foresees a future including a White Walker and Daenerys Targaryen; seeing himself as part of a larger story, he swears fealty to Rhaenyra. Helaena refuses Aemond’s demand to fly Dreamfyre into battle and foresees that he will die in the war. Alicent secretly travels to Dragonstone, offering to surrender King’s Landing to Rhaenyra in exchange for her and her family’s safety; Rhaenyra insists Aegon must die to ensure the transition.
