Rep. Nick Begich, R-Alaska, reached Congress by an unusual route: founding software companies and holding Bitcoin since 2013. BPI's David Zell sat down with him at PubKey to talk about how a builder's instincts shape the way he legislates, his bill to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve in the U.S., and the policy questions AI is raising faster than Washington can answer. The conversation covers everything from Begich's 440 coins on Mt. Gox to the American Reserve Modernization Act (ARMA). They dive into the ~93-year cycle of global reserve currencies, the "untethering" of money from scarcity, and Begich's belief that AI's hardest problem is the "disintermediation of purpose" rather than unemployment. They close on UBI, Alaska's Permanent Fund as a model of citizen ownership, and what's next for the budget and healthcare.Guest: Rep. Bitcoin is at a crossroads for Mark Cuban as he reveals he sold most of his BTC after the Iran war exposed its broken hedge narrative, while gold rips and the dollar weakens. Meanwhile, Rep. Send a textRepresentative Zack Fields of downtown Anchorage explains the Alaska State House's failed vote to draw from our legislative savings account yesterday. In order to receive a 9 to 1 match from the federal government for our state transportation projects -- a potential investment of almost $700 million -- we needed to fully fund the match yesterday. The Alaska State Senate had earlier this week voted unanimously to draw from our savings account and receive that match, but yesterday the House failed; we needed a 3/4 vote (30/40) and we came up very short (22/40). This podcast also addresses Rep. Fields behavior during a speech by Congressman Nick Begich earlier this week.
Jeff was joined by Representative Nick Begich (R - Alaska). They discuss how his first term in the Congress has gone and what he has learned, the narrow Republican majority in the House of Representatives, how he's managed to get so many bills passed, resource development opportunities in Alaska, the lack of infrastructure projects in Alaska, the rising costs of healthcare and how he thinks costs can be lowered, the governor's race, his upcoming election, and an interesting bill he just introduced.
In this episode of John Solomon Reports, we delve into the pressing issues surrounding energy production and national security as Congressman Nick Begich of Alaska joins the conversation. John discusses how the Biden administration's policies have hindered Alaska's energy industry, impacting America's ability to counteract Russian aggression. Congressman Begich emphasizes the importance of revitalizing energy production and highlights President Trump's recent actions to reverse harmful regulations that threaten economic growth.John also reveals significant news regarding the EPA's endangerment finding, which has now been rescinded, marking a big win for energy advocates. This pivotal change underscores the lack of scientific basis for claims that natural gas and carbon-based fuels pose a threat to public health, a point that aligns with Congressman Begich's insights on the energy sector. In the latter part of the show, John welcomes former House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, who shares his expertise on accountability within government and current political dynamics. Additionally, author Casey Fleming discusses the alarming intelligence threats posed by China, based on extensive reporting from Jerry Dunleavy. Fleming's insights serve as a crucial reminder of the global challenges we face and the importance of being informed citizens.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this engaging episode of the Must Read Alaska Show, Congressman Nick Begich takes center stage to discuss the whirlwind first 100 days of the new Congress, offering a deep dive into the priorities shaping Alaska and the nation. Begich highlights the unprecedented pace of legislative action under Republican leadership, focusing on key achievements like the Lake and Riley Act, which strengthens immigration enforcement and empowers states to hold the federal government accountable. He outlines efforts to secure the southern border, curb the flow of illegal drugs, and prioritize American interests in trade and spending, all while exposing wasteful programs that have long burdened taxpayers. A significant portion of the conversation centers on the budget reconciliation process, which Begich sees as a golden opportunity for Alaska. He details plans to advance resource development, including expanding leasing in ANWR, unlocking potential in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, and revitalizing the state's mining and timber industries. These initiatives, he explains, are designed to generate revenue for both Alaska and the federal government, fostering economic growth and reducing reliance on federal dollars. Begich also addresses the contentious issue of Alaska's revenue split with the federal government, advocating for a return to the promised 90-10 split on new leases to bolster the state's financial independence. Beyond Alaska-specific issues, Begich tackles broader national challenges, such as the ballooning $36 trillion national debt and the trillion-dollar annual interest payments that threaten fiscal stability. He emphasizes Republican resistance to tax hikes, instead favoring cuts to waste, fraud, and abuse, supported by the Department of Government Efficiency and the DOGE caucus. Begich also discusses Medicaid reform, proposing eligibility checks and work requirements to ensure the program serves those truly in need, while addressing the misuse of benefits by non-citizens. On healthcare costs, he points to long-term solutions like healthier food regulations and curbing pharmaceutical advertising to ease the burden on consumers. A particularly striking moment comes as Begich raises concerns about federal funds potentially looping back into the political sphere, citing examples of NGOs, straw donors, and dark money influencing elections. He stresses ongoing investigations to ensure transparency and legality in campaign financing, warning that unchecked interference could undermine democratic integrity. Throughout, Begich's passion for Alaska shines through, as he champions policies to create jobs, ensure economic predictability, and empower young Alaskans to build their futures in the state. This episode captures a pivotal moment in national and Alaskan politics, with Begich working hard for Alaskans.

As Americans across the country suffer under the failed policies from Biden/Harris, 2 crucial Congressional races will play a pivotal role in the election. Rob Bresnahan is running in north east Pennsylvania, district 8. This district's votes generally determine the rest of the commonwealth and the 19 electoral votes that will be crucial in securing the White House. Rob shares insight into this critical battleground state as voters in his district are saying the same thing every American is saying. Cost of living is too high, crime in the community is on the rise, an unsecure border has devastated communities with fentanyl and illegal immigration. President Trump has visited the commonwealth over 5 times in the recent months and Rob has seen a huge switch from registered Democrats to Republicans. Running against an extreme progressive Matt Cartwright, Rob is ready to take district 8's Congressional seat and keep a Republican majority in Congress. Up in Alaska, Nick Begich ran a campaign that resonated with voters enough to have current Lieutenant Governor Nancy Dahlstrom drop out of the race. With Alaska's convoluted rank choice voting this was the best way to ensure a Republican secures the Congressional seat. It was rank choice voting in the 2022 special election that allowed leftist Democrat Mary Peltola to get into office. Alaska's vote will be detrimental in the election should the race come to a 269-269 tie. Alaska is a red state that Donald Trump won by 10 points in 2020. Nick Begich is ready to represent Alaska to make the state and the country great again.
