Today's guest is Rachel Hill of Rachel Travels. She's a travel influencer, teacher, author, marketing guru, and just an all-around entrepreneurial force. I was so excited when she agreed to come on the podcast because she was just one of those people whose names kept popping up. Rachel is a wealth of knowledge. She's been an influencer for a long time, but in recent years she has shifted a little bit to teaching others how to be influencers and harness digital marketing to grow their travel brands. This episode is definitely for you if you are an influencer, or want to become one, but you're worried you've left it too late. Rachel says it's not too late, and we dive deep into what it means to be an influencer in 2022. Rachel is a pitching mastermind when it comes to approaching brands and you don't need a million followers on Instagram to benefit from what she's talking about, she makes that very clear. We talk a lot about what it means to be a micro-influencer, or even a nano-influencer, and the power of smaller influencers. The thing I love most about this episode is that Rachel lays out a roadmap for approaching brands, for partnerships, for sponsorships, and just pitching in general. She describes in plain terms the steps you need to take to be successful in today's market. Our conversation was so inspiring, I loved it and I really hope you do as well.
You may have seen our next guest on Instagram jet setting around the world but Rachel Hill of Rachel Travels is much more than a travel influencer. She boasts the accomplishment of retiring from corporate america at just 27 and is now taking the tourism world by storm with her digital strategy agency. As the first episode in our Build Your Business During Covid-19 series, Rachel will provide us with insights into whats next for the travel and influencer marketing sectors. In this 2nd annual “Advice” episode, we ask our 9 most recent interviewees the 5 most commonly-asked questions we’ve been hearing online and in person from female road travelers. Because anything can-- and often does-- happen on the road, more perspectives usually help so that you can learn, reflect, and ultimately decide for yourself what feels right. And when we as female travelers share advice with one another, it does some important things: it normalizes that we are competent and can be sources of knowledge, and it also shows each other that there is no one way to do road travel. You can have a different perspective and still make it happen. In this episode, you’ll hear: Answers and insights to 5 commonly asked questions about traveling on the road: How do you finance your travels? What do you do about safety? Do you ever get lonely, and how do you combat that? What are your best tips for camping? What is one item you couldn't live without while traveling on the road? After silently suffering from Anxiety Disorder and Depression for over a year, Rachel made the decision to resign from a lucrative and promising corporate career to travel the world indefinitely. Rachel's love for travel started before ever stepping on a plane. As a child, she read hundreds of books which allowed her to explore the world, in different times and places over and over again. In high school, she was granted an opportunity to travel to China for a month. Since then, her heart for travel and exploration has taken her to over 40 countries. She created a travel platform to educate, inspire, and influence Millennials of color to travel the world to push past their comfort zones, travel the world (like a boss on a budget), and change the narrative on what it means to be a traveler of color. Rachel Travels has been featured in Matador Network, Essence Online, XONecole, Blavity, and Black and Abroad. Before leaving Corporate America, she was a Digital Marketing Project Manager, developing mobile apps, social media games, and creating digital strategies.
