Friend of the show Ray Garton, author of many horror books including In a Dark Place, passed away April 21, 2024 of lung cancer. This show is largely a rebroadcast of episode #039 from 2011. Ray was one of the first and most prominent people who worked with Ed and Lorraine Warren who then went on to call them out for their duplicity. He wouldn't be the only one either, as we covered in The Warren Omission a few years later. Content Warning: Many of the alleged events that Ray wrote about for the Warrens involved sexual and physical trauma, and this episode needs the explicit tag due to discussion of that content. Ray Garton's 1986 horror novel Live Girls may have the perfect bad book pitch: vampire hookers in seedy vintage Times Square. Jack and Kate travel back to a golden age of sleaze and encounter smokeshow bloodsucking strippers, donut-inspired dirty talk, and dancefloor remixes of “The Old Rugged Cross.” What perverted compulsion makes a vampire turn the worst dudes in the world immortal? Why are nightclubs never, ever as cool as the ones in bad books? What do table tennis and the Anarchist's Cookbook have in common? Bienvenue dans ce nouveau cas Warren ! Et pas des moindres puisqu'il pourrait s'agir du cas qui sera choisi pour clôturer la saga Conjuring (du moins la série de films avant la série TV). Disclaimer/Warning: We're absolutely savage in this episode - no holds barred! This is one of our favorite cases from the Warren Files to discuss: The infamous Haunting in Connecticut case, aka The Snedeker Family Haunting. This case surrounds the Snedeker family who claimed their house was not only haunted, but that the demons also attacked them late at night...sexually. They sought out the help of Ed and Lorraine Warren, who rated this haunt only a 9 out of 10, though. We lose all sense of decorum and tact in this episode as we discuss the facts of the case as well as possible ulterior motives. Mell and Chris take the gloves off in this episode! E20: The Snedeker family moved into a former funeral home and allegedly experienced a horrific haunting. According to the Warrens, this haunting was due to a terrible incident that took place in the past and demons were at play. This story inspired the writing of the book “In a Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting” by Ray Garton and eventually inspired the movie “The Haunting in Connecticut”. However, Garton came forward with a startling confession about the truth behind this story, and an alleged darker side of the Warrens was exposed. As a bonus, Ivy also goes over “The Devil Made Me Do It” case which involved a murderer, Arne “Cheyenne” Johnson, who's plea was that they were possessed by a demon when committing the crime, with the Warrens giving him their support. This story has many parallels with the story of the Snedeker family, and inspired the movie “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” that came out in 2021. These two cases, in the opinions of this podcasts hosts, help to showcase a known pattern and cycle used by the Warrens. The Haunting in Connecticut is a 2009 American supernatural horror film produced by Gold Circle Films and directed by Peter Cornwell. The film is alleged to be about Carmen Snedeker and her family, though Ray Garton, author of In a Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting (1992), has publicly distanced himself from the accuracy of the events he depicted in the book.[1][2] The film's story follows the fictional Campbells as they move into a house (a former mortuary) to mitigate the strains of travel on their cancer-stricken son, Matt. The family soon becomes haunted by violent and traumatic events from supernatural forces occupying the house.
This week Aggie and Irene are taking a departure from the CU proper to visit a mangled branch of the Warren tree: The Snedeker case. We also discuss the importance of thoroughly examining any rental before you move in, the power of skeptics and come to the conclusion that lies hurt people. Next week we're back with Annabelle Creation - what a relief. FEBRUARY TOPIC: Haunted Houses Check out Buzz Killers every Sunday for new episodes! In episode twenty five, we discuss the haunting of the Snedeker House. In 1986, Carmen & Al Snedeker moved their family to Southington, CT to be closer to the hospital where their son was receiving cancer treatments. Little did they know that they were moving their large family into a former funeral home. The activity on their home got so bad that they enlisted the help of Ed & Lorraine Warren. The story of their terrifying haunting has caused much speculation. Are their stories true? Or is this all an elaborate hoax? For this episode we drank Confetti Sweet Pink Rosé! SEPS Paranormal Podcast Episode 84 Welcome to the 84th installment of the SEPS Paranormal Podcast. On this episode Sushi and I interview Ray Garton, author of 'In a Dark Place, the Story of a True Haunting'. This is the original story of what eventually came to be known as 'A Haunting in Connecticut'. Listen as Ray shares his impressions of the Snedeker family, and Ed and Lorraine Warren. This is not a podcast you want to miss! Paul www.sepsparanormal.org
The 2009 film The Haunting in Connecticut is purported to be based on true events. Similarly, there was the 2002 documentary A Haunting in Connecticut (which aired on The Discovery Channel and helped spawn the series A Haunting). These true events have been compiled by author Ray Garton into his book In A Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting. The shocking tale contains adult elements of a graphic nature, and if true, described a terrifying case of a demonic and ghostly attack on a family. But Garton now says that the allegedly true events weren’t quite what they seemed. READ episode notes
