In this episode, my guest is Dr. Allan Schore, Ph.D., a faculty member in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, a longtime clinical psychotherapist, and a multi-book author. We discuss how early child-parent interactions shape brain circuitry, impacting our ability to form attachments, manage emotions, and navigate conflict and stress. We cover how the development of right-brain circuitry related to emotional processing and the unconscious mind regulates physiological responses, influencing adult friendships and romantic relationships. We also explore how improving your ability to listen to the emotional tone—rather than just the meaning—of words is a vital skill for fostering better relationships with yourself and others, and how it plays a role in reshaping brain circuitry. Additionally, we explain how circuits in the right brain hemisphere drive creativity and intuition and discuss activities to access the unconscious mind. This episode delves into how the unconscious mind regulates emotions—both your own and others'—and shapes our sense of self. By the end, you'll have new knowledge and tools to build more secure, meaningful, and impactful connections of all kinds: professional, romantic, familial, friendships, and beyond. Did you know that your brain as a computer could store 2.5 million gigabytes or 300 years worth of TV shows?!?! Our most complex (and fattiest) of organs has been meticulously studied over the decades, with one theory in particular falling under the microscope: the idea that each of us is left-brain or right-brain dominant. So what are the characteristics of left/right brain dominant people, and how true is the abovementioned theory? On World Brain Day, Emaad, Ryan and Audrey give you something to think about. Drawing broadly on science, philosophy, politics, and wisdom teachings, James Olson, in his book The Whole-Brain Path to Peace: The Role of Left-and Right-Brain Dominance in the Polarization and Reunification of America, offers a holistic look at how the brain's division into distinct hemispheres results in two divergent perspectives on our experience. These contrasting perceptions of the world, in turn, become a direct cause of the crippling polarizations we see today in gender relations, politics, and public policy—leading to culture wars and even modern warfare. Noting that one side of the brain always tends to dominate the other, Olson offers novel methods to minimize this imbalance and incorporates the most recent neuroscience research in this updated second edition. This meditation has the intention to reconnect with our child-like essence & intuition - a very empowered state of awe and wonder!! It's our connection to all there is throughout time & space. A place without judgement or the need to make sense. Depending on where you are on the spectrum towards fully unleashed intuition & creativity, we recommend to (re-)listen to this meditation as often as you like, to 'train' that muscle further. This is one of our strategic 'tools' to dive out of the sea of perception - making limited sense based on our past, beliefs & conditioning - to see what's really going on, what we really want and to then create exactly that! Hemispheric Brain Synchronisation - Left vs. Right Brain: The newest part of the brain - the Neocortex - enables higher order thinking and differentiates us from animals. While the Left Hemisphere of the Neocortex is responsible for abilities such as Logic, Analytical Thought, Science & Math, the Right Hemisphere of the Neocortex is tied e.g. to Creativity, Empathy, Holistic Thought and Compassion. We are living in a society, where most are either in a Right Brain Dominance or in a Left Brain Dominance, however only hemispheric synchronisation (= both hemispheres in balance) enable an accurate perception of reality, operating on all cylinders and True Intelligence = Intellect ('Intelli') + Creativity ('gence' = generare = create). This meditation is one (of many) tools to reconnect with our right brain, our inherent intuition & creativity. Enjoy & let us know your thoughts!
The two sides of the brain have different perspectives of the world and they lead us to make very different choices. Olson’s research shows that we need to blend these two for three-dimensional thinking. He discusses how we can tell when we are functioning from our right brain or our left brain. "Poor automaticity in routine skills makes many individuals with dyslexia...experiment with routine procedures, and in the process find new and better ways of doing things." p23 of Dyslexic Advantage. In this summary and review of Chapter 3 of The Dyslexic Advantage by Dr Brock Eide and Dr Fernette Eide they explore two of the four theories of Dyslexia. This chapter is all about the two main theories of what causes dyslexia and how it affects us. Phonological Impairment Theory and Procedural Learning Theory. I try to simplify it so I can understand it and explain it to my teenage students in the future. There is so much practical stuff to learn from understanding these theories. Its not just theoretical stuff. It helps in everyday decision making. Things covered: The Traits: - Late talking - Mispronouncing words - Getting tenses wrong - Following grammar rules - Spelling - Reading - Arithmetic - Coordination - Routines - Memory - Organizing - Following instructions - Keeping focus - Following rules Theories of Dyslexia: 1. Phonological Impairment Theory 2. Procedural Learning Theory 3. Right Brain Dominance 4. Mini Columns Phonological Processing Theory - Recognising little sounds phonemes - 80-90% dyslexics have - Decoding and Encoding - Levels of impact - Link with Working Memory - Phonological Loop - Executive Function - 3 Peaks of Challenge Procedural Learning Theory - Learning to automatically do things - Slow to master procedures - Explicit Learning - Compensations by being on 'Manual' - Explains the innovation of new processes - Creative and Innovations from Dyslexia Dyslexic advantage website: www.dyslexicadvantage.org/about-us/the-book-the-dyslexic-advantage/ Bulletmap Academy Page: https://bulletmapacademy.com BulletMap Academy Workshop: https://bulletmapacademy.com/workshop/ BulletMap Academy Blogs: https://bulletmapacademy.com/blogs/ Enroll in BulletMap Academy: https://bulletmapacademy.com/sales-page/#price Show Notes: mindmapstudio.com/20

At the top of the show, Paul Levy, author of Dispelling Wetiko: Breaking the Curse of Evil is with us revealing the contagious psychospiritual disease of the soul, a parasite of the mind, that is currently being acted out en masse on the world state via collective psychosis of titanic proportions. This mind virus - which Native Americans have called "wetiko" - covertly operates through the unconscious blind spots in the human psyche, rendering people oblivious to their own madness and compelling them to act against their own best interests. Sound familiar? Drawing on insights from Jungian psychology, shamanism, alchemy, spiritual wisdom traditions and personal experience, Paul shows us that hidden within the venom of wetiko is its own antidote, which once recognized can help us wake up and bring back sanity to our society. We'll certainly ask him if this might explain how people vote against their economic interests! James Olson, spirit-focused philosopher, is my guest in the second half of the show. Author of The Whole-Brain Path to Peace: The Role of Left and Right-Brain Dominance in the Polarization and Reunification of America. James sees his work on the planet as bringing the masculine and feminine energies into greater balance through his advocacy for whole-brain thinking as a path to peace.
Are you managing your brain or is your brain managing you? Science has long understood the significance of brain lateralization. Researchers now know that each hemisphere provides contrasting but complimentary perspectives, and that each side deeply conditions our perceptions. Behavioral neuroscientists also observe that one perspective will tend to rule: For example, the “holistic, compassionate” right brain dominates in most women, while the “analytical, dualistic” left brain is operative in most men. Other pairings naturally show up: Democrats tend to be right brain and inclusive; Republicans are predominantly left brain and individualistic. Those who live a spiritual or holistic lifestyle draw primarily from the right brain; analytical scientists or businesspeople draw mainly from the left hemisphere. It follows that—if we are to better understand and manage our lifestyle, our culture, and its politics—we must better manage our brain’s two hemispheres, rather than let its natural tendencies manage us. These are not simple matters. In fact, the conundrum of brain lateralization sent James Olson, into 18 years of deep study and meditation. Author, James Olson is an independent philosopher and integrative thinker. His book: The Whole Brain Path to Peace: The Role of Left- and Right-Brain Dominance in the Polarization and Reunification of America. is the recipient of FOUR national book awards: Foreword Reviews Book of the Year (Gold in Philosophy, 2012), Natulils (Silver in Social Change, 2012), Independent Publisher IPPY (Bronze in Psychology/Mental Health, 2012) and Eric Hoffer (Honorable Mention, in Self Help, 2011).
James Olson with his book, The Whole-Brain Path to Peace: The Role of Left- and Right-Brain Dominance in the Polarization and Reunification of America. Many of the problems we encounter each day grow out of simple misunderstandings resulting from differences in perspective shaped by the dominance of one brain hemisphere or the other. And these disparities can bring difficulties, yet the profound role of brain dominance in daily life is rarely examined in sufficient depth, especially in relationship to culture and spirituality. James believes the path to peace begins in the brain. In his innovative exploration, he explores the bothersome or contentious relationship between the brain’s dualistic left hemisphere and its holistic right hemisphere.
James Olson, author of "The Whole-Brain Path to Peace: The Role of Left- and Right-Brain Dominance in the Polarization and Reunification of America," will share how brain dominance affects issues from personal relationships to governmental policy, religion, and even war and peace - highlighting the often tragic distortions that can result from the simple lack of balance of our hemispheres - and reveals howa better understanding of the whole brain can faciliate personal transformation, as well as peace on a larger scale.
