In today's special Wednesday edition of the Omni Talk Fast Five podcast, sponsored by Microsoft, the A&M Consumer and Retail Group, Takeoff, and Sezzle, Chris Walton and Anne Mezzenga: - Discuss why IKEA's new store investment plans show just how smart of retailer IKEA is. - Laud Unilever for its bold move to deploy mobile ice cream stores with Robomart. - Grow skeptical of Adidas's all-in move with Foot Locker. - Debate whether Sweetgreen's new digital order pickup-only store is something more QSRs should try (and, newsflash, but Chris concedes the argument to Anne on this one). - And, close with an exploratory look at Starbucks and its digital future. There's all that, plus Kanye's latest video drop for Gap, what pairs best with Grey Poupon wine, and whether all jumpsuits should be beltless. Some startups look to take steps and time out of existing processes. Others look for ways to turn an existing concept or business model upside down and do it differently than it's done before. That's the idea behind Robomart, a concept that combines the retail store experience with the on-demand hailing concept behind Uber and Lyft. Except that rather than ordering up a ride on your phone, the customer is ordering up a retail store that comes to their door, on-demand. On this episode of the Rebound, Abe Eshkenazi and Bob Trebilcock host Ali Ahmed, one of the co-founders and CEO of Robomart, to discuss store hailing, a new take on retail, as well as the potential supply chain implications behind the concept.
