The episode wraps with a look at Zavala's running 30 straight days during the World Cup, what it says about leadership, and how barbecue businesses can take advantage when the world shows up hungry.Listen now for barbecue news, restaurant insight, food culture, event talk, and the kind of honest conversation that keeps the smoke moving.

In this episode of Southeastern Fly, we recap a recent trip to Upper East Tennessee with the Liars and Tyers. The trip included clear water, low flows, long leaders, dry-dropper rigs, and plenty of stories from more than two decades of fishing together. We also look at the leader setup that became our go-to system for the trip. It was not the easiest rig to cast, but it helped us make delicate presentations without putting fly line over wary fish. This trip was a reminder that good fishing does not always require complicated flies. Sometimes a simple midge, a long leader, and a precise drift are all it takes.Key Highlights:We stop at Buc-ee's, suffer through a bad Wendy's meal, and navigate Knoxville traffic.A long mono leader helps us avoid spooking fish in clear water.Simple red midges produce most of the action.Clean, drag-free drifts outperform complicated fly patterns.Riffles and color changes consistently hold fish.Accurate casts and delicate presentations are essential. We share a reminder to respect other anglers and their water. We revisit a productive spot named more than 20 years ago.Low flows make rowing challenging, but the river becomes easier to read.Resources:Visit southeasternfly.comSign up for our newsletterProduced by NOVA

Dolly Parton spent decades living on a tour bus. Now, she's using that wisdom to take down Buc-ee's. So, if you weren't aware, the “Queen of Country” just launched Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop. Instead of just walls of beef jerky, Dolly's has live music stages, sit-down southern cafés, and a little sparkle of Dolly Parton magic that'll make even a beaver blush. And while Buc-ee's famously bans all semi-trucks, Dolly Parton plans to make the road feel like home for truck drivers. In fact, her massive travel centers feature elite trucker lounges, high-flow fuel lanes, and private showers to win over the millions of drivers Buc-ee's locks out. Since I'm located in Buc-ee's backyard, with a massive location literally in our subdivision…there's probably no chance I'm swapping my Beaver Nuggets for a “Cup of Ambition,” but you let me know where you're stopping!

DOCKET ALERTS:   This week, the Senate confirmed Jeffrey Kuntz as a judge in the Southern District of Florida, making him the second former Florida state jurist who did Trump a solid in his trollsuit against the Pulitzer Prize Board and got himself promoted to the federal bench. Also this week, the Senate confirmed Matthew Schwartz to the Second Circuit, making him the third of Trump's personal lawyers to be made appellate judges. This is fine!   The Trump administration sued Maryland to stop it providing in-state tuition to undocumented students.   Trump's media company plans to sell early access to his posts to high-frequency traders.    DOOFUS OF THE DAY:   Trump's teleprompter operator Gabriel Perez got caught betting on what his boss might say on Kalshi. He's negotiating a settlement with the CFTC, but is apparently still employed at the White House.   MAIN SHOW:   Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche had his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. Any Republican defection will tank his nomination to be permanent AG. He got raked over the coals and forced to sit down with the Epstein survivors, but will probably make it through.   The beloved service station Buc-ee's is suing everyone and their mother for trademark infringement. But the Buc-ee Beaver may have bitten off more than he can chew picking a fight with Mickey the Moose.   SUBSCRIBER BONUS:   In December, X/Twitter rolled out new image generation capabilities for its AI Grok, after which users created an avalanche of non-consensual intimate images. The site is facing a class action by minor victims. But it hopes to avoid liability by seeking a ruling from a friendly judge in Texas that the blame lies with the users who generated the images, not the site itself.   US v. We discuss the importance of delaying Social Security when appropriate, planning for life as a surviving spouse, Roth conversions, IRA withdrawal strategies, qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), and estate planning fundamentals that can help preserve wealth for the next generation. The loss of a spouse is one of life's most difficult transitions, and for many retirees, it can also result in a significant reduction in Social Security income. Richard Rosso & Jonathan McCarty explain the Social Security "Widow's Penalty," why survivor benefits often leave widows and widowers with less household income, and the planning strategies that can help protect your retirement. We discuss the importance of delaying Social Security when appropriate, planning for life as a surviving spouse, Roth conversions, IRA withdrawal strategies, qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), and estate planning fundamentals that can help preserve wealth for the next generation. You'll also learn why communication between spouses is essential, how the step-up in basis can benefit heirs, why holding assets with large unrealized losses may create unintended consequences, and how thoughtful planning today can reduce financial stress tomorrow. Send us Fan MailOn this episode of Grease The Wheels, we address the 800 LB gorilla in the room with the arrival of a sub $25,000 old school Mini-Truck style EV called Slate. This is one of the coolest things out there, and not only because it comes in Uncle Jimmy's preferred cab layout, having the correct amount of doors for a pickup truck. As a product, it is deeply interesting, and we would love to get our hands on one to use (and in Erik the Producer's case - mercilessly abuse). However, the most interesting thing about this project is the possibly paradigm shifting ways that they are going to service them — utilizing a network of independent repair shops to do warranty work. It also slaps the entire argument against right to repair right across the face with the vigor of Rick James seeing Charlie Murphy — with Slate making all of their software available to both buyers and independent shops, with the intention of users performing much of their own maintenance and customization work by themselves via a web portal that tells them what they need to know. We also get into the world's recent love affair with America, Buc-ees, Ranch Dressing, and unlimited refills with our hosting of the world cup, and what happens when you tell Americans that they, “can't do something”   Also Uncle Jimmy gives a positively Churchillian overture to the techs in the independent shops that are going to be fixing the Slate's. This Episode of Grease the Wheels is brought to you in partnership with Surfwrench Digital! We start with Germany’s stunning World Cup loss to Paraguay and discover that, as usual, international soccer has a remarkable ability to make millions of perfectly rational adults behave like deranged squirrels. From there, we ponder: why so many Europeans become unexpectedly fascinated by American food and conveniences, leading us through brisket, Waffle House, Texas Roadhouse, Chick-fil-A, and Buc-ee’s, which somehow manages to be a gas station, a tourist attraction, and possibly its own form of local government. We talk air conditioning—not just as a machine that keeps people from melting into the upholstery, but as a cultural dividing line. We argue over comfort, whether humans are supposed to reshape nature or merely negotiate with it, and what it really means to "take dominion" over the world using a thermostat. We also tackle the less relaxing subjects of exit taxes, estate taxes, and the fact that governments are enthusiastic about knowing where your money is. Along the way, we examine sovereign citizen claims, why those arguments consistently fail in court, and whether anyone can truly live outside government authority. By the end, we've connected soccer heartbreak, roadside brisket, industrial-strength air conditioning, and tax law into one conversation, which is either impressive or a compelling argument that podcasts are a waste of time.

In the first segment of the second hour of The Tara Show on Thursday, July 2, 2026, host Tara marvels at the absolute awe of European FIFA fans visiting America for the first time and discovering the stark contrast in lifestyle and wealth. Using this as a jumping-off point, Tara highlights a staggering headline from The Wall Street Journal revealing that the United States added an incredible 1,200 new millionaires per day last year, bringing the nation's total to 23.6 million millionaires out of a population of 342 million. She contrasts this booming capitalist success with China, which boasts only 5.2 million millionaires despite having a population three to four times larger, and points out that America holds more millionaires than several major European nations combined. Lee joins the conversation to note that the immense space, choice, and commercial freedom found in the U.S.—exemplified by the overwhelming scale of a standard Buc-ee's gas station or the country's vast stadium infrastructure capable of easily hosting massive World Cup crowds—are simply not permitted by heavily regulated European governments. Tara wraps up the segment by reflecting on how wealth accumulation in America is tied heavily to low-debt lifestyle choices, illustrating how everyday citizens like teachers and factory workers can out-accumulate high-earning professionals like doctors simply by avoiding depreciating assets like brand-new cars and letting compound interest work in their favor.

H2: This segment of The Tara Show discusses U.S. wealth growth, local governance, and criticism of policies regarding illegal immigration. full Here is the complete transcript with the speaker names updated to reflect Tara and her co-host, Lee Rogers: Tara: If anything marked this week, lately, it was the absolute awe of FIFA fans who've never been to America before, coming here largely from Europe— Lee Rogers: Yeah. Tara: —and discovering how we live. 'Cause they didn't know. Lee Rogers: No. Tara: And they were probably like me when I went there in my 20s with my cousins. Took a long road trip through Europe and was shocked at the poverty of the middle class, um, and the way that they lived compared to us. I'd always thought it was roughly equivalent. It's not. Well, this captures kind of what they were seeing. Headline in the Wall Street Journal—this is truly stunning, okay? And this is exactly what Democrats are trying to crush with the Democrat Socialists of America movement. Headline in the Wall Street Journal: "The US added 1,200 new millionaires a day—" Lee Rogers: Mhm. Tara: "—last year." Not last year—a day, last year. 1,200 new millionaires— Lee Rogers: A day. Tara: —a day. Okay. China, how many did, um, you know, how many millionaires are there? Okay, so you look at the United States of America. Let's start with that. Total millionaires in the United States of America—and this is remarkable—23.6 million. Lee Rogers: Mhm. Tara: That's out of 342 million people. Okay, China—what, three, four times bigger?—they've only got 5.2. This is exactly the system, uh, that the Democrats are hoping to embrace. Literally, a lot of it funded by China. I mean, you're—if you want to know what's going on in New York right now with the Commie Corridor, go pull the article by the New York Times—not the New York Post, the New York Times—in which they admit the Chinese Communist Party is now a huge influence on who wins the primaries. Lee Rogers: And you've got these American Democrats allied with them who want to take the property of the millionaires here in this country. Tara: Yes! They—because you shouldn't have it. Lee Rogers: Because you shouldn't have it. But what if you earned it? Well, you still shouldn't have it. Tara: Right! Wall Street Journal writes—I mean, every stat in the story is just mind-blowing. "America knows how to manufacture millionaires. Over 440,000 people, or more than 1,200 a day, became millionaires in the US a year, accounting for nearly half the world's new millionaires." Again, there's only like 342 million of us. It's incredible. Lee Rogers: Mhm. Tara: Why? Because capitalism and free markets work anywhere they're tried. They work anywhere they're tried. Why? Because they work off of human nature. Lee Rogers: Yeah. Tara: Um, more than 23.6 million Americans are now worth seven figures or more. And the US gains have come thanks in large part to surging financial markets. Lee Rogers: Yeah. Tara: Uh, and so, I mean, you know, you're watching this. Just to give you some idea, okay? And this is what these FIFA fans are reacting to. It's kind of a measure. If you look at, um, how many millionaires that we have here in America—okay, 23.6 million. If you combine Germany, the UK, France, Australia, the Netherlands, Italy, you only get 11.5. It's roughly the same population. So here in America, 23.6 million millionaires. You take what is essentially Europe, and you throw in Australia, to get to 11.5 million millionaires. So you can see their, um, you know, the way they live is nothing like the way we live. We are so wealthy comparatively, and that's what they were so shocked about when they came here. Lee Rogers: And it's also the space and the choice that we have in this country, despite the best efforts of many on the left to restrict that. I mean, what I think is so funny is when these Europeans are going to a Buc-ee's and they are just completely mind-blown. Tara: [laughs] Lee Rogers: Because European countries will not allow that to be built. That is the thing. It is not that these countries can't afford these things. They ... 1835 Thu, 02 Jul 2026 14:15:00 +0000 IHZii50zrB6E5IgMfQB7VeclHNY1X7ZC news The Tara Show news H2: This segment of The Tara Show discusses U.S. wealth growth, local governance, and criticism of policies regarding illegal immigration. The Daily Boost | Coaching You Need. Success You Deserve.

Episode Description Yesterday, we revealed the patterns. Today, we put a name on them. Here's what I've learned in twenty years of coaching. You wear labels whether you choose them or not. Most people are walking around with a tag somebody else stuck on them decades ago, or a borrowed one they wish were true. A fake label feels good for a while. It just doesn't hold up, and life is long. Today, I'll show you how to write a who-I-am document built on what you actually do, not what you pretend to be. It's freeing. Come find out. Featured Story My daughter caught me reading the Bible on my phone and got curious. I told her I'd asked ChatGPT to walk me through all sixty-six books, one at a time, with a summary and a handful of quotes, written so anyone could understand it. Four hours of work. Ninety thousand words. I'd been reading it like a story. She said, " You can't do that. That's not how it's supposed to be done. I said, " That's exactly who I am. I make sense of things, and I lead people through them. That's not breaking a rule. That's my label, right there on full display. Naming it changed nothing and everything. Important Points You already label yourself constantly. The question is whether the label is honest or one you borrowed to feel safe. A who-I-am document built on your actions beats any identity a chatbot or an old boss ever handed you. Write yours down. Writing it down makes it real. The thoughts floating in your head turn solid the moment they hit the page or screen. Memorable Quotes I keep a daily awareness diary to reveal who you actually are through your actions, not by what you think you are inside. Calling yourself what you want to be feels good, but it's not who you are. It's not real. You're lying to yourself. There's something about taking the thoughts in your mind and writing them down. When you write it down, it becomes real. Scott's Three-Step Approach Start from your actions, not your wishes, because the daily awareness diary already shows you who you really are. Next, write a who-I-am document for your eyes only that names your real values, your identity, and how you want to live. Then own that honest label out loud, even a rough one, so the person on paper becomes the person you live as daily. Chapters 0:02 - America, freedom, and the case for Buc-ee's 0:44 - The Disney World of roadside gas stations 2:45 - Choosing the one area of life to fix first 4:17 - The next step is naming exactly who you are 5:00 - The borrowed labels you're already wearing 7:05 - How a who-I-am document actually works for you 9:32 - Reading all sixty-six Bible books with AI Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify If you enjoy the Daily Boost, you might like Notes From Scott. In this pre-July 4th episode of the Derek Hunter Podcast, Dean Karayanis kicks off the celebration of America's 250th anniversary by taking aim at the media's determination to paint the U.S. as a dystopia. Despite negative narratives and travel warnings, international tourists visiting for the World Cup are flooding social media with praise for American life — right down to our air conditioning, Buc-ee's, and Bass Pro Shops. Dean breaks down the condescending media coverage from The New York Times and Politico that report Democrats are deeply uncomfortable with foreign visitors actually enjoying the United States. The monologue transitions to international relations and immigration policy following a Supreme Court ruling on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians and other foreign nationals. Dean criticizes the media's framing of the Iranian national soccer team's elimination and calls out establishment figures like Mike DeWine and John Kasich for condescending, racist portrayals of Haitians, along with comparisons to the strict border enforcement policies of the Dominican Republic and Canada. Finally, drawing from his latest column in the New York Sun, Dean looks back at economic history to debunk Pope Leo's declaration of food as “a basic human right.” By revisiting Governor William Bradford's diaries, he explains how even the deeply pious Pilgrims at Plymouth Colony tried and quickly abandoned collectivism because it fundamentally goes against human nature. Dean closes with a patriotic reminder of the patriots who won the nation's independence — including 25% of Americans at the Battle of Yorktown who were Black — and issues a call to celebrate the American experiment.

1.25 million tourists just flooded into America for the World Cup — and what they're finding doesn't match a single thing CNN told them. The mainstream media's version of America is collapsing in real time, one Buc-ee's at a time. These visitors were told America was racist, divided, and drowning in Trump chaos. Instead they found free soda refills, massive sandwiches, and Southerners so friendly it felt like a Ted Lasso episode. Now the New York Times is calling the positive coverage a "psyop." Lance Wallnau breaks down why the left can't handle the world falling in love with the country they've spent years trying to tear down. In this episode: What 1.25 million World Cup tourists are actually saying about America Why the NYT called their positive experience a "Trump psychological operation" The patriotism gap: 90% of conservatives love America vs. 23% of the left Why the real America — the majority — is decent, hospitable, and nothing like the media's version Lance's challenge to Americans: you have far more to be thankful for than you think The story the media is desperately trying to bury is walking through our airports right now.
