El síndrome del bebé olvidado: cómo evitar que un descuido rutinario termine en tragedia La reciente muerte de una niña de dos años en Brión (A Coruña) reabre el debate sobre la seguridad infantil dentro de los vehículos, las normativas de colocación de los sistemas de retención y la necesidad de aplicar "trucos" cotidianos para prevenir despistes fatales. La rutina, la prisa, el cansancio y un cambio imprevisto en los hábitos diarios pueden convertirse en una combinación letal al volante. La triste noticia ocurrida recientemente en la localidad gallega de Brión (A Coruña), donde una pequeña de tan solo dos años falleció por un golpe de calor tras quedar olvidada en el interior de un coche, ha conmocionado a la sociedad y ha puesto en alerta a los expertos en seguridad vial. Este tipo de sucesos, lejos de ser casos aislados o fruto de la negligencia consciente, ocurren todos los años en diferentes partes del mundo y afectan a familias de cualquier perfil socioeconómico. En esta ocasión, la fatalidad se desencadenó cuando un padre, desacostumbrado a realizar la ruta de la guardería, condujo directamente hacia su puesto de trabajo con su hija dormida en la parte trasera del coche, asumiendo erróneamente que ya la había dejado en el centro infantil. El coche como un invernadero exprés Muchos conductores subestiman el calor que puede acumularse dentro de un habitáculo cerrado, especialmente en primavera o a principios del verano, cuando las temperaturas exteriores aún no parecen extremas. José Lagunar, experto en seguridad vial y colaborador del programa Auto FM, explica de forma nítida la física detrás de esta trampa térmica: «Incluso en épocas del año con temperaturas moderadas de entre 27 y 28 grados, el interior de un coche expuesto al sol se convierte en un pequeño invernadero. En apenas dos horas, la temperatura interior puede superar fácilmente los 50 grados». Para un niño de corta edad, este incremento térmico es letal en cuestión de hora y media o dos horas. Los bebés y niños pequeños son seres indefensos que carecen de la capacidad de termorregulación de un adulto; su temperatura corporal sube de tres a cinco veces más rápido, lo que provoca que sus órganos vitales dejen de funcionar de forma repentina ante el golpe de calor (hipertermia). El debate sobre los asientos traseros y la visibilidad La tragedia de Brión también abre un debate técnico sobre la legislación española en comparación con la de otros socios de la Unión Europea. España es uno de los pocos países del entorno donde los sistemas de retención infantil (SRI) deben instalarse obligatoriamente en los asientos traseros, estando prohibido que los bebés viajen en el asiento del copiloto salvo excepciones muy limitadas. En otros países, como los nórdicos, se permite que viajen en el asiento del acompañante delantero (siempre desactivando previamente el airbag frontal). Según Lagunar, permitir esta ubicación en determinadas circunstancias ayudaría a reducir drásticamente los olvidos por dos razones fundamentales: Visibilidad directa: Para el conductor es sumamente difícil olvidarse del bebé si lo tiene justo a su derecha en su campo de visión, incluso aunque este se quede dormido y no haga ruido. Ayuda del exterior: En España, la mayoría de los vehículos familiares llevan las lunas traseras tintadas por motivos de privacidad y protección solar. Si el niño se queda en la parte de atrás, es casi imposible que un peatón o un compañero de trabajo lo divise desde fuera. En cambio, las lunas delanteras no se pueden tintar por ley, lo que facilitaría que cualquier transeúnte detectara la situación de emergencia y diera la alarma. El "truco del móvil": una barrera infalible contra el olvido Los expertos insisten en que nadie está libre de sufrir un despiste mental debido al estrés o a la falta de sueño. Por ello, la mejor herramienta de prevención consiste en crear un hábito físico que nos obligue a mirar el asiento trasero antes de cerrar el vehículo. Anteriormente, muchos conductores colocaban su cartera o la tarjeta de acceso al aparcamiento del trabajo debajo de la sillita portabebés (maxicosi). Hoy en día, el elemento más infalible es el teléfono móvil. La recomendación de oro: Al subir al coche con el bebé, introduzca su teléfono móvil debajo de la sillita infantil o en el suelo del asiento trasero junto a ella. Dado que en la sociedad actual es prácticamente imposible que abandonemos el coche para entrar a trabajar o a casa sin llevarnos el dispositivo móvil, este sencillo acto garantiza al 100% que el conductor abrirá la puerta trasera y mirará la sillita antes de marcharse.

Crisis en el Asfalto: El Deterioro Estructural de la Red Viaria Española (2026) La seguridad vial en España atraviesa un momento crítico donde la infraestructura, diseñada para proteger la vida, está empezando a fallar de manera sistémica. Mientras las campañas de vigilancia se intensifican sobre el factor humano, el estado físico de las carreteras revela un déficit de mantenimiento que ha pasado de ser una preocupación técnica a una amenaza real para la integridad de los ciudadanos. El Colapso de la Infraestructura: El Caso de la A66 El 19 de abril de 2026 se registró un incidente de extrema gravedad en el punto kilométrico 277 de la autovía A66: parte del pretil de un puente se desprendió y cayó sobre la carretera nacional N-122. Este suceso, que podría haber resultado en una tragedia masiva si un autobús o vehículo hubiera circulado por debajo en ese instante, no fue causado por un impacto previo, sino por la fatiga de los materiales de hierro dentro de la estructura de hormigón. Debido a la evidencia de que este problema no es un hecho aislado, se ha emitido, por parte de IMU (Juan Carlos Toribio) el requerimiento 2026SV46, solicitando la revisión exhaustiva de todos los tableros y sistemas de contención de los puentes de la A66. La debilidad estructural detectada se debe a la degradación del metal interno de las estructuras de cemento, un proceso de "podredumbre" que eleva el riesgo de nuevos desprendimientos. El Mito del "Vicio Oculto" y la Responsabilidad Administrativa Desde un punto de vista legal y técnico, se argumenta que el deterioro actual no puede calificarse como un "vicio oculto". Un vicio oculto es aquel defecto imposible de predecir incluso con estudios técnicos; sin embargo, el estado de abandono de muchas infraestructuras es evidente incluso para personal no profesional. • La normativa española obliga a los titulares de las vías a mantenerlas en las mejores condiciones de seguridad posibles. • El déficit de conservación y mantenimiento alcanzó en 2024 la cifra récord de 13.491 millones de euros, lo que supone un incremento del 42,3% respecto a balances anteriores. • Más de la mitad de la red vial requiere mejoras y 33.966 kilómetros necesitan una reconstrucción urgente en un plazo menor a un año. Fallos Críticos en Seguridad Pasiva La seguridad pasiva, como los guardarraíles y pretiles, es la última barrera de defensa para el conductor. No obstante, se han documentado fallos alarmantes en estos sistemas: • Marzo de 2026: Una barrera de contención falló al no soportar la salida de un vehículo policial durante una persecución, a pesar de estar diseñada para retener incluso camiones. • Tragedia en Galicia (2022): Un accidente de autobús en Nochebuena resultó en seis fallecidos porque el pretil del puente no fue capaz de sujetar el vehículo, sumado a una deficiente evacuación de agua en la vía. • Viaducto de El Castro (2022): El colapso de un tablero de 50 metros en la A6 demostró que incluso infraestructuras con menos de 25 años de antigüedad presentan fallos estructurales graves. El Factor Humano y la Vigilancia en 2026 Mientras la infraestructura se degrada, la administración mantiene una presión constante sobre el comportamiento del conductor. Los datos de las campañas más recientes muestran resultados mixtos: • Alcohol y Drogas: En diciembre de 2025, se detectaron más de 500 conductores al día con resultado positivo en alcohol o drogas. El 89% de estos positivos se detectaron en controles preventivos. • Sistemas de Retención: Entre el 10 y el 16 de marzo de 2026, la DGT detectó a 458 menores viajando sin el sistema de retención infantil (SRI) adecuado o usándolo de forma incorrecta. El incumplimiento del uso del cinturón es mayor en menores (2,4%) que en adultos (0,84%). • Transporte Profesional: En la campaña de febrero de 2026 para camiones y autobuses, se incrementó la vigilancia sobre el tacógrafo y el exceso de peso, dado que en 2024 los siniestros con camiones provocaron 204 fallecidos terceros. Propuestas y Evolución del Mantenimiento Ante la ineficacia de los actuales sistemas de auditoría, surge la propuesta de recuperar y modernizar la figura de los peones camineros. Estos trabajadores, encargados históricamente de tramos específicos para limpiar cunetas, drenar agua y reparar baches de forma inmediata, podrían ofrecer una respuesta más ágil que los grandes contratos de licitación actuales. La inversión media en mantenimiento por kilómetro en España se situó en 36.441 euros en 2024, una cifra que sigue siendo insuficiente si se compara con países como Reino Unido, que llega a multiplicar por cinco esta inversión. Sin una apuesta estructural por la conservación que supere los ciclos políticos, el riesgo de que las carreteras continúen "cayéndose" sobre los ciudadanos seguirá siendo una realidad estadística. Cada semana en Onda Cero junto a Agustín Bravo, Sergio Alberto Gama y Beatriz Martínez analizamos la seguridad vial. La DGT quiere copiar a Alemania, pero no con la calidad de sus carreteras o las autopistas sin límite de velocidad ¿Qué quiere copiar la DGT? La DGT quiere implantar en España una medida inspirada en Alemania para facilitar el paso de ambulancias, bomberos y policía en situaciones de atasco. La intención es que los conductores abran un corredor central de emergencia en autopistas y autovías. El modelo alemán consiste en que, cuando se forma una retención, los vehículos se desplazan hacia los lados de la vía sin salir de la calzada, dejando un espacio central libre. En Alemania esta maniobra recibe el nombre de Rettungsgasse. ¿Para cuándo esta medida? La DGT ya avanzó en julio de 2025 que esta obligación se incorporará a la próxima reforma del Reglamento General de Circulación. Según la noticia, la entrada en vigor se plantea para 2026, aunque todavía no se concreta una fecha exacta de implementación. La reforma afectaría al artículo 32 del Reglamento General de Circulación e introduciría la obligación de “abrirse hacia los lados” cuando los vehículos circulen muy despacio o estén detenidos por una retención en autopistas y autovías. ¿Objetivo de esta medida? El objetivo principal es mejorar la rapidez de acceso de los servicios de emergencia, especialmente en situaciones en las que los atascos se originan por accidentes de tráfico y cada minuto resulta crítico para atender a las víctimas o trasladar heridos. ¿En qué momento tendrán que apartarse los coches? La DGT prevé apoyarse en la plataforma DGT 3.0 y en la conectividad de las balizas V16 para alertar a los conductores de que se aproxima un vehículo prioritario. La idea es que los usuarios reciban el aviso antes incluso de escuchar las sirenas o ver las luces. Los vehículos de emergencia circulan geolocalizados y transmiten su posición a los centros de gestión, lo que permitiría anticipar la advertencia a los conductores atrapados en la retención. El cuento de la velocidad, la DGT se queda sin argumentos En la última NdP la DGT nos deja 3 perlas: 1. En 2024, la velocidad inadecuada fue determinante en el 22% de los siniestros con víctimas mortales, sumando un total de 307 fallecidos, un 5,5% más que en el año anterior. 2. Alrededor del 60% de los conductores reconoce circular por encima de los límites establecidos en carreteras convencionales, casi el 50% en zonas urbanas y más del 60% en autovías y autopistas. 3. El pasado mes de febrero entraron en funcionamiento 33 nuevos radares (20 fijos y 13 de tramo) en carreteras de once comunidades autónomas La Dirección General de Tráfico pone en marcha desde el día 13 de abril y hasta el próximo domingo, 19 de abril, una nueva campaña especial de vigilancia y control de la velocidad, uno de los factores de riesgo clave en la siniestralidad vial. ¿Es una campaña solo de la DGT? La campaña se desarrolla con la Agrupación de Tráfico de la Guardia Civil y con las policías locales que se adhieran, dentro de un marco nacional y europeo. Forma parte de la Estrategia Española de Seguridad Vial 2030 y del Plan Mundial del Decenio de Acción para la Seguridad Vial 2021-2030, cuyo objetivo es reducir un 50% las muertes en carretera antes de que termine la década. ¿Qué es esto de la velocidad inadecuada? La velocidad inadecuada sigue siendo uno de los principales factores de riesgo en los siniestros viales. En España, en 2024 se registraron 307 siniestros mortales relacionados de forma determinante con el exceso de velocidad, un 5,5% más que en 2023. ¿Hay relación entre más velocidad y más accidentes o más velocidad y mayor gravedad? Relación directa entre velocidad y gravedad del siniestro: a más velocidad, menos tiempo de reacción, mayor distancia de frenado y menor campo visual. Además, el impacto es especialmente grave para los usuarios vulnerables, como los peatones. Europa se inventa estos datos: Se destaca que un aumento de 10 km/h puede duplicar la probabilidad de sufrir un siniestro mortal, y que reducir solo 1 km/h de velocidad media podría evitar más de 2.200 muertes al año en Europa. ¿Los conductores reconocen que no respetan los límites? El incumplimiento de los límites sigue siendo muy elevado. En condiciones de circulación libre, alrededor del 60% de los conductores supera la velocidad permitida en carreteras convencionales, casi el 50% en ciudad y algo menos del 40% en autovías. Los resultados de la última campaña confirmaron la persistencia de estas conductas de riesgo. En agosto del año pasado se controló a más de un millón de vehículos y se denunció al 6,7% de ellos, el porcentaje más alto de las últimas siete campañas. En el caso de las policías locales, el porcentaje de denuncias fue del 4,5%, también el más alto de la serie. Sri talks with Adam Rossi, who set a 2-year clock on founding a company after he graduated college. At 24 he started his entrepreneurial journey along with his young wife Laila. In 1976, nine French wine judges did the unthinkable: they blindly selected two California wines over France's most elite vintages in what became known as the Judgment of Paris. This shocking upset sent shockwaves through the wine world and forever changed the global industry. French wine had dominated for centuries, built on a rigid classification system and prestigious terroir, but California winemakers like Warren Winiarski of Stag's Leap and Mike Grgich of Chateau Montelena proved that world-class wines could be produced anywhere with the right combination of climate, soil, and expertise. The tasting was organized by British expat Steven Spurrier, who ran a Paris wine shop and saw the American Bicentennial as a perfect marketing opportunity—but neither he nor the lone reporter in attendance, George Taber of Time magazine, expected California to actually win.
